Dear Mr Cameron, It would appear, looking at comments from Chairmen such as that at Annan and looking on social networking sites, that you have made a big error of judgement in your comments to the press today. Your comments, though they may have been good intentioned, make the world look at the SPL Chairmen, including yourself, in a very different light. That statement has come across like the SPL voted Rangers out but that they fully expected that they could buy the services of the SFL, under the misled guidance of Messrs Regan and Doncaster, to get Rangers into the second tier. Mr Cameron I am enclined to think that this display of self preservation and of the desperation for Rangers in the SPL by the teams of the SPL has not only expanded the gulf between SPL and SFL but has put the final nail in the coffin of the current set up within Scottish Football. In one breath the SPL chairmen are voting, not just because of fan pressure but for Sporting Integrity yet behind the scenes they are chucking that self same Sporting Integrity out the window to try and put pressure on the SFL teams. Football in Scotland can be saved and I would urge all clubs to work together to save it. It can be done but only by first acknowledging that all forty two clubs have a say in it and by disbanding the elitest group that care for no other than themselves. The next step is to get rid of those within the Hierarchy of SPL and SFA and of bringing in a true leader, under the auspices of one governing body, who can take our game to a new, more secure and sensible level. Finally I suggest that those who control our game should never underestimate the effects of fan power. Fan power can make or break a club and, following on from your statement tonight, fans of ICT are indicating that they may prefer a shopping trip with the wife on a saturday afternoon ahead of supporting the team. What I think is really sad is the fact that ICT were almost excluded from the SPL due to apparent self preservation. How we mumped and moaned about the attitudes of clubs that made up the SPL back in 2004 that didn't seem to welcome playing by rules in case it upset the apple cart. Well here we are now in 2012 and we've managed to get into the top league (again) and now we are one of those clubs whom we initially had to battle to get into that top league and now the shoe is on the other foot and we only care about self preservation. Very disappointing.5 points

No one has kicked rangers when they are down, Rangers went into liquidation the Newco applied for league entry and have been told to start where anyone else applying would, in fact they ar lucky they are allowed entry at all considering they have no audited accounts etc4 points

Dear Mr Cameron. I feel your statement regarding newco Rangers admittance to Division Three was badly timed, poorly worded and a PR disaster for our club. You listened to the voices of the supporters of the club who opted for sporting integrity and voted against newco’s admittance to the SPL. I feel that your words today have given many fans the impression that you did this on the basis of a sleazy plan to bully SFL clubs into admitting a newco into SFL 1 to preserve a model of football in this country that is now unsustainable or that you had expected SFL clubs to ignore their fans and the principles you claimed to follow with your initial decision. Need I remind you that two seasons ago ICT were an SFL club and we may be in the same position again in the future. The thought of our club having any part in any sort of bullying tactics would be unforgivable in my opinion. While most fans appreciate that there will be certain financial tests over the coming seasons, many people feel “the end of Scottish football as we know it” is not necessarily a bad thing. Personally I would much rather see ICT operate at a lower level as a sustainable club than have the club be a leech and rely on another club being in the same league or indeed money from television companies. I have the upmost confidence that this can be addressed and I urge yourself and the board to share any issues with the supporters. If anything has come from this whole shameful Rangers episode it’s that the fans can be a powerful force in football. ICT has a loyal support and I very much hope you will adopt a transparent approach in what could be a difficult time. Please do not misconstrue this email as a series of accusations against the club or indeed yourself. I am just concerned given that I renewed my season ticket after your statement of intent regarding the newco/SPL vote and I am now unsure of the intentions and direction of the club. We have a chance to change things for the good and make it easier for a club such as ourselves to survive and prosper. The last thing we need is an unhelpful, pointless and ultimately detrimental comment from the club like the statement this afternoon. I would welcome a public response to the fans from yourself to address any of the comments raised in this or any other email you receive tonight or indeed a personal, private one via this email address. Yours sincerely James Proctor3 points

Very disappointing statement from Cameron, topped off by a post from Caley100 that contained all the hallmarks of a raging currant bun. For Cameron to come out blabbering about a once in a lifetime opportunity to change Scottish football just begars belief. The attempt to place Sevco in the 1st was evidence of Scottish football's unwillingness to change at all costs, and the decision that SFL clubs made today gives us a chance, just a chance, of reconfiguring the game away from the tedious Old Firm domination that we have all got so sick of over the past 20 years. It will be tough. It will certainly be on a smaller scale, and more clubs will probably end up having to start afresh in the 3rd, but personally I would prefer to watch under 19's in the 3rd than a bunch of loanees from the English lower leagues trying to keep us in the SPL at all costs so that we don't lose our slice of Old Firm generated tv money. That's not sport for me. It's just a televised entertainment show in which we are suppossed to be grateful for our bit-part. I salute the SFL 25.2 points

Might be worth reminding people upset by a perceived lack of sporting integrity and thinking about following Clach instead that they would be supporting a team that reformed as a newco and got immediate reinstatement to their league of choice without any sanctions. Just a thought.2 points

Trying very hard not to upload the Picard gif now! I disagree with the KC statement / wording of the statement. But right now, the club need us. The fans are the heart and soul of the club. I'm angry because I really care about Caley Thistle. The worst thing to do now is walking away. That would be pathetic.2 points

I'm really disappointed in this news. I had posted on P & B that I would be thoroughly ashamed if ICT were one of the clubs trying to bully the SFL teams into parachuting Rangers into SFL1 and that's exactly what I am right now. There is something seriously wrong when, it would seem, so many clubs appear to have a business model that is almost wholly dependent on the presence of one or two big fish. We need to wean ourselves off this dependancy quickly.2 points

http://www.highland-...ll-13072012.htm Not a great decision to come out with this statement, imo. I think most of us suspected that the SPL chairmen would be privately hoping for Sevco to be voted into Div 1, but Kenny Cameron's more or less come out and admitted it, and it makes his earlier comments about sporting integrity seem hollow. Could he not just have made a more straightforward statement about the financial challenges facing the club and appealing for as much support as possible?2 points
-
I don't think for one moment anyone is forgetting or ignoring the need to grow our own support, but with finances being bad then quick hits are needed as much as anything else. FWIW, discounting doesn't work and that has been proven time and time again. In fact, I would say that for the vast majority of people it's not really the price that is the problem, it's what they get in return....and taking it a step further I would say it's the return from the overall "matchday experience" that needs work, with only a very small part of that being reflected in what happens on the park. We'll only see investment in such things once the club is in a position to balance the books, and they won't be able to balance the books if the fans are not willing to bend a little to help with that. Just as a bit of a P.S. - I know this thread has concentrated on what fans should/shouldn't be expected to do, but I am very much of the opinion that Inverness as a whole needs to be doing more. The people, the businesses, the council...everyone. ICT brings far more to Inverness than it has ever taken and it's about time the city as a whole stepped up and gave them a bit more support. Local businesses were quick enough to go bleating to the press about how the loss of Rangers visiting would impact them...think what it would be like without ICT and none of the countries top teams visiting.2 points

The Elgin fan is hilarious. He's trying his hardest to manufacture some kind of rivalry between two clubs who have no history of having any rivalry whatsoever.1 point

I think we should create a new Alex Thomson appreciation thread! When I met him earlier, he mentioned that he may be going out to Syria to carry on as the war correspondent for Channel 4. Long may he continue as Channel 4's Chief Newco correspondent! We're lucky to have a journalist of this standard.1 point

I've made 2 or 3 posts calling for Doncaster to go. I repeat that tonight, but this time he can take our Chairman with him. His statement is wrong on just about every level and, like many others I am embarrased to be associated with the club tonight. Let's look at some of the things Mr Cameron has said today. He states "Scottish football was at a crossroads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward. But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision" What he is saying here is that the clubs of the 3 divisions of the SFL have destroyed the opportunity to move the game forward with their vote today. He is saying it is OK for the teams in the SPL to vote for sporting integrity but nothing short of a disgrace for teams in the SFL to do so. He goes on to say "A once in a lifetime opportunity to bring forward change may well have been lost." But why? Is he saying that he and others were only prepared to discuss restructuring and other changes if Newco were placed in Division 1? Clearly if there is an appetite for change then it matters not one jot whether Newco are in Division 1, Division 3, the SPL or the Govan Sunday league. The opportunity for change is only lost if the clubs refuse to work together for that change. It really is contemptible that he is acting as Doncaster's stooge in this. There are two issues which should be competely separate. One is Newco's application to join the SFL and the other is league reconstruction. His statement also says "There was an opportunity on the table, in terms of the joint agreement tabled at today’s meeting for us all to come together and a genuine willingness to improve the game substantially over the coming years." But if there is a genuine willingness, there will still be opportunity to take things forward. What will have damaged that willingness to work together for change is not the principled vote by the SFL chairmen, but the ICT chairman having the brass neck to accuse them of putting proposals into disarray because they voted on a basis of sporting integrity just as he had apparently done earlier. What his disgraceful remarks today mean is that he hadn't the guts to vote the way he wanted but is slating the chairmen of smaller clubs for not doing his dirty work for him. Why on earth would any of the other chairmen want to work with him when he treats them with such contempt? Mr Cameron has done the game in Scotland and this club in particular a grave disservice. He should have welcomed the vote to admit Newco into the SFL and accepted the SFL Chairmen's decision to vote for entry at Division 3 level. He should then have welcomed the fact that the Newco saga was now settled in terms of where they will play this season and then called for all clubs to put that behind them and work together for the restructuring Scottish football so desparately needs. That would have demonstrated some humility and leadership. Instead he has alienated ICT from most of the other clubs and has made the task of obtaining a consensus on the way forward that much more difficult. May I suggest that the first item on the agenda for the Emergency Board meeting should the appointment of a new Chairman?1 point

At the end of the day Rangers went bust. There is no other football association in the world that would have gone to such lengths to save a team with no money and such large debts coupled with operating outside the rules.1 point

I am in absolute shock at this thread - shock that everybody is surprised by what is developing. Hey these are the guys who brought us the SPL. These are the guys who spiced it up by having a top six bottom six split. These are the guys who only months ago wanted to reduce it to 10 teams. These are the guys who only days ago wanted to expand it to 16 teams. These are the guys who tried to impose an embargo on Rangers signing players These are the guys who threatened to raise sanctions against the new club These are the guys who run Scottish Football - sorry missed an i These are the guys who will ruin Scottish Football Yes I am shocked1 point

Haven't posted here in years but feel compelled to share views/frustrations etc.My family have been season ticket holders for many years now but we weren't really impressed by the football on display last season and one or two other issues including e.g release of certain players and the lottery of signing a number of untried players at S.P.L level made us feel that the club was turning away from its roots. As a consequence we deliberated on whether or not to purchase tickets for this coming season. Today's statement by our club chairman has really surprised/dismayed/astonished me and It's made me wonder what on earth is going on. Was this sanctioned by the entire board? This is a major league faux pas and can only have a detrimental effect on I.C.T. As well as alienating fans/chairman of 25 clubs in the S.F.L and fans of S.P.L clubs it is like scoring a spectacular own goal against I.C.T fans. Where is the logic? As for buying season tickets- Watching Clach or dare I say it shopping looks ever more attractive as I still try to work out the reasoning for the STATEment!1 point

What a PR disaster for the club. Mr Cameron should never have made that statement. If he was part of those that attempted to bully newco into SFL1 then I am ashamed to be an ICT fan. If we can''t operate without another team in the same league as us then I'm afraid we deserve what we get. I would follow ICT at whatever level we were able to operate. I renewed my season ticket after we voted against newco in the SPL. I am glad the right choice was made by the SFL clubs today. I just hope that we and other clubs can readjust and keep going.1 point

So Mr Cameron was part of a board that had a strategy solely dependent on Rangers FC in the SPL? Meanwhile they put on an act of integrity to get people to buy season tickets, while all along the SPL clubs were fully behind Doncaster's stitch up? If that's how it was, then the other night might not be the last time this season I'm in Grant Street Park, but it might just have been my last Caley Thistle match! To be brutally honest and I'm sure I'm not alone, it's very nearly the point of no return for Scottish Football for me regardless of what happens now. This afternoons vote should have been a line in the sand, an opportunity to try for a new start for Scottish Football, but instead it looks like the same old corrupt sh!te. Absolutely NO to SPL2 no buts!!1 point

I think the outcome was fairly inevitable from the moment Rangers went into administration....although it could have been handled far more professionally by the Chief Executives of the various associations. The SPL made the right decision to deny NewCo and there was always the hope that the ultimate punishment to them for making that right decision would be lessened if the SFL somehow managed to find a way to put them in Div 1 (wishful thinking...but hope at least). The SFL then made the right decision to place NewCo in Div 3....and in doing so shattered the little hope the SPL had of lessening the blow. Only "wrong" decisions would have perhaps saved things....or more accurately, delayed the inevitable a bit longer because had the votes gone any other way then fans would have turned their back on the game. What's happened in the last few months is not the cause, the cause is the chronically inappropriate setup under which football operates in this country...from top to bottom. Our associations are not fit for purpose, the league setup is not fit for purpose and our club business models are not fit for purpose. Something that most are only waking up to now when it's too late. The Highland Derbies will bring a sizeable chunk of income and they probably would have helped us through in the short term, but it won't touch the sides of the full implications of "Brand Rangers" not being in the top league for the next 3 years (at least). I've been worried for months....I'm even more worried now.1 point

First and next step should be removal from office of all those Rangers biased officials who are claiming to be the saviours of Scotish football. Extraordinary, emergency meetings should be called now and a complete overhaul of all bodies pertaining to Scotttish football should sit down and thrash out an entirely new concept that will restore SF to a credible entity. There could not be a better time to start.1 point

If Doncaster, Regan and Co have any sence at all they will leave things as are and work towards proper league reconstruction over the next couple of years. If they cant see that as being the correct way then its time for them to go. Only six out of 42 clubs in Scotland have voted with Rangers or abstained from voting. 36 club chairmen are in agreement on how things should by. Thats one hell of a vote of no confidence in those running our game.1 point

cooper was very assured, not the most attacking of full backs but got the job done and did it well. meekings much the same assured not troubled at all. foran great captains performance always talking. warren disapointed he went off but when he was on he did very well played the ball on the deck and led the defense. g.shinnie the usual solid but deadly performance from him draper what he lacks in finese he makes up for in presence can get really stuck in and i thought he alowed the likes of dorran, a.shinnie, and shane sutherland to play. doran was different class really outclassed everyone else for me a.shinnie played well between the lines set up alot of the attacks very composed shane, probably not a winger but would make a decent inside forward, he does the defensive stuff well down the wing but struggles to provide the final ball. good goal none the less and very nearly got a second with a great strike off the post. billy a sharp performance squandered a few decent chances but thats to be expected at this level and point of pre season. subs pepper, looks quick could be dangerous, has youth on his side morrison passed the ball well a good performance all round polworth got in decent positions got into the game played well oswell got a goal didnt look quite as sharp as billy but could be a better finisher ross didnt get into the game really but was out of position got a run out at least motm for me was doran he was different class.1 point

Couldn't ICT and the other remaining SPL clubs not just request the SPL to scrap the coming season's split? That way, there would be more games, probably another money-spinning Celtic game and more games against teams that would bring a larger away support. Don't know how doable it is, but it might generate more income for each club.1 point
