  1. My understanding is that Butcher rules with an iron fist. I believe in this day and age that man management is the key to getting the most from players. Butcher believes that he is exempt from any kind of critisism - hence the regular verbals with ict supporters. Bear in mind that Ict will only ever consist of players who are very young and come through our youth system, or those who have already tried and failed at this level before. Running a team the way he does does nothing to instill confidence and runs the risk of destroying the confidence of some players. I would like to see him gone, regardless of who comes in, because i believe that he does more harm than good with his approach and menatality.

  2. Have just realised that I am at a conference in Stirling that day, which finishes at 3.30. I guess that means either sitting in a pub in Stirling on my own for a few hours, or heading to Larbert, and finding a pub to sit in for a few hours, until the rest of the ICT contingent appears. Either way, the next day at work will probably be one to forget...

  5. Three young signings called up for international duty, I would say that is pretty good management selection on a low budget! A forward line that is scoring goals consistantly, A team trying to play entertaining football, A team that fights back when down. A team that is still to gel and reach full understanding of eachothers capabilities and yet is improving regardless of losses. Give the Manager the credit he deserves please and drop this negativity. This team can and will do well under Terry. Maybe we cant all go to the fixtures but I'm sure we can all give the team and manager our support. That can only do good!!

  6. I like the way that our forward players are fluid and change positions, I think it's a strength. A great way of creating chances is to 'double-team' your opponent, to outnumber them and having players comfortable changing positions is a key way of doing that. We need to play football in the right areas of the park and push up - against Celtic (albeit I only saw that game on the telly) we sat so deep it meant there was no chance of us doing anything. I'd be interested to see a chart of where our forward players touched the ball in that game - Doran and Andy Shinnie certainly had to drop into their own half to get teh ball on numerous occasions. The first 30 minutes of the Killie game showed how good we can be when we push up and get the ball to Shinnie, Doran etc in the final third of the pitch. Pushing high is a risk and I can see why defenders lacking in confidence drop deeper but we do so much better further up the pitch it's worth it. Graeme Shinnie is fantastic pushing on, as he showed in the second half of the Hearts game.

  7. You speak for yourself! But yes, I'm quite aware of the distinction, regarding SNP policy about keeping the Pound and hence still having monetary policy deicded in London as it is now, fighting like ferrets in a sack about Nato, keeping the Queen, a Scottish Broadcasting Coropration which is going to try to maintain service and quality level with 9% of the income of the BBC (presumably by showing repeats of the White Heather Club and Dr Finlay's Casebook plus The Krankies live from Phipps Hall Beauly), a Scottish Defence Force where "3 Scots" is no longer an infantry battalion but Hughie, Jimmy and Willie waving claymores...etc etc.... In reality I suspect that what the SNP mean by "policy post independence" is something more like "the answers we don't have to the hard questions about the stark practicalities that people are now beginning to ask as we dioscover that support for separation has peaked and is unravelling fast - and we realise that getting what we want is going to take a whole lot more than the Big Man getting up on his feet and bellowing at the Holyrood parliament." What a pathetic pathetic post. The good old Scottish cringe...

  8. Looking through the fixtures the highland u 20 derby is on the 9th (during the holidays) would be great if the club advertised it well and got a decent crowd to go to it.

  11. Let us try to evaluate Terry Butcher logically His strenths Determination Bravery Optimism Past Performance as a player Tutored by Bobby Robson, at Ipswich and in an England shirt Promotion Knowledge of the Scottish game both club level and Scottish International coaching duties His weakness's Prior to ICT low level of management sucess Relegation Poor reaction to Critics and supporters Over confidence Lack of a good Assistant manager Poor coaching of set pieces Needs a good first team coach to work with him Seems to have personality clashes with senior players From my point of view ICT do need to get a new face into the coaching staff There are a lot of technical issues that need to be addressed. The team need to sharpen up on their passing skills, on closing down, on marking , and on set pieces. I won't make a comment on whether he should go or not, but things need to improve.. I remember Paul Merson saying after his spell as Walsall manager. " It is hard for an International player to understand, how lesser players think and play , they really need someone of their own background to coach them,* I feel Terry Butcher is thinking like an International and Rangers centre back. Enough said

  12. No amount of 'match day experience' will ever stop the rot, whats possible anyway? Beyonce lookalikes and more mascots? It'll still be -10 degrees in the wind down the dump this winter, it'll take a hell of alot more to get folk in. You know it wouldnt even make a difference giving seats away for a quid each, if there is no investment in the playing staff then why should the people of Inverness be expected to care about the club? Would there be a difference if Hayes, Tade etc were persuaded to stay on with contract offers, upto a year/6 months before their deals ended? This business of having players earn new deals is of no benefit to ICT when the new deals are being offered are by rival SPL clubs, if a player proves their worth with regards to a new deal they should be rewarded with one instantly, this last minute stuff just winds the fans up. anything else is just re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic and i bet they had proposals, action plans and delegations for that aswell

  13. Every manager has a shelf life, however I don't mind who the manager is in charge so long as he is competent and cares passionately about the team. Tb does that IMHO at the moment, he is capable of keeping us in the SPL. When Terry does eventually move on, I'd love to see Barry Wilson have a crack at managing us. Maybe a cheeky pele 2nd in charge, I get a smile thinking about that but maybe it's just me!

  14. About 3 years ago the BBC, despite getting that 9% of its income you mention, was told by one of these 'independent' reports (I forget which, now) that it was only sourcing 3% of its output from Scotland and it should be bumping it up to 9% - which, up to now, it has signally failed to do. So we still get high culture beamed into our living rooms nightly in the form of Eastenders, and daily in the form of a soap about doctors, and all these complacent middle-class househunting programmes. Meanwhile all that the rest of the UK knows about one of the oldest nations in Europe is what they get from stereotypes perpetuated by the Sun and the Evening Standard. Charles, by your constant manifestations of the Scottish Cringe, you really do appear to have an incredibly low opinion of your countrymen.

  17. Back in pre-season I never thought we would get the players to compete with C(o)unty but I feel we have some decent players and can only get better. C(o)unty have a settled team and a great unbeaten record, team spirit, etc but I can't see how they can improve on all those 0-0 draws. Promoted teams usually get found out after the first quarter (except ICT of course, we always do it the other way round).

  19. I'm disapointed that we dont have Bobby Mann and Darren Dodds, but I get over this, as I have done Rossco and Granty - yet still they seem to be brought up on every thread. I think a big loss was actually Golobart as a younger player with more potential and looked good last year on several occasions. We have to move onwards and forget looking back all the time (although I sense on here this isnt possible) ..........if only we hadn't merged *sigh* We need Hogg back and the new boys that have come in need to adjust to the SPL - its a step up for all of them and they need to get switched on a lot quicker!!!

  20. Its easy now to call for TB's head and get a replacement in - if the popular choices which will be cited I'm sure of Robbo, 10CC, Stevie Patterson, maybe even Granty & Rossco double act then I'm sure all those against Butcher would be happy for a 'tenuious' link to the ICT past in charge, also means for a season even if a new boss was even worse they could be let off the hook by blaming TB signings and any decisions made. Ultimately TB has signed a lot of players and we need to give them time and the manager to find the best combination on field - we are 5 games in with 2 league defeats (yes bad results and shipped 8 goals) but this was to the Champions elect and the runners up last season away. Performances and results have to improve but time is needed, we have the potential for a cup QF if we beat Stenny and have time in the legaue to improve. TB has to find a leader on the pitch to marshall the defence, but for a man with world cup experience and a raft of international caps he should be doing better at this I agree. But I still think time is needed and we will start to improve, if by xmas this hasnt happened then I too will suggest its time for TB to go, but only if there is a candidate out there better who can work within the tight budget to produce a more capable team and drive us forwards - right now dont see a stand out candidate. There is a long way to go and this season could yet prove to have some positive ICT moments (I hope).

  21. Who now really gives a toss about Tokely, Munro or Tinkerville - we need to sort our feckin selves out - I would have to say again that today was as much about the midfield cover as the defence and the fact that Butcher is infallible.

  23. I don't think it's the stage where the players aren't doing it for him or he's making inexplicable selections. It's a very difficult important time though - there are signs that we don't have that bad a team and there are things going well but we need to start turning promise into points and wins. If Butcher and Malpas can't do that soon they should be gone.

  25. You're right, we don't have 3 to 5 years to sort things out and I wasn't suggesting we do. Things have to start changing (for the better) now....but it will take that length of time, IMO, to get back to where we were in terms of the relationship between the club and fans that existed prior to our entry to the SPL and started going down hill from then on. How long it will take to reverse the trend in terms of falling numbers...I have no clue. It needs to happen quick, and it needs to happen in conjunction with the above. I know I keep on about the lack of money, and part of the turnaround needs to be looking at ways to fund certain things. I don't buy into the theory that Directors should exist to keep dipping in to their own pockets to finance things and in fairness to some of our Directors/Ex Directors, they have done more than their share in that regard. Yes, you could argue that they are merely funding their own mismanagement, but like it or not, football clubs in their current form are not sustainable businesses....and whilst doing everything else that needs done, a sustainable model which doesn't rely on handouts also needs to be put in place. (I'll save you the lecture on my thoughts about the need for community business models as I'm not sure a single post can be that long) There comes a point when you have to stop playing the blame game and accept that if you want change then you have to play your part in bringing it about. Have the club made poor decisions in the past?...sure. Have the fans been less than supportive at times?...sure. Does that change where we are at now and what needs to be done?...not in the slightest. I would, personally, whittle that list down to just 2 points....the last two. Ultimately the Board have very little control over the team, how they play and what they do. They can only provide a pot of money which is used to employ management and players, and beyond that it falls to the manager to make it as successful as possible within the budget he has. Levels of success and entertainment are subjective, and the board would be chasing their tail and getting involved in things they are not expert at (or expected to be expert at) if they were to try and interfere with that to any great extent. The second point...get points three and four right and point two takes care of itself, so let's not get hung up on it as a separate issue. Beyond your list, the club need to be looking at the non fan/match/football related activities which are needed to help support everything else. I don't know what goes on in terms of functions/conferencing etc on a day to day basis, so I'm in position to comment on where that is at, but it's not an area which should be ignored....far from it. I can't/wouldn't try to speak on behalf of the Directors of the club...but I think the fact that they have realised and accepted that things are broken is an important first step. The increased communication and working relationship with Caley Jags Together also indicates a willingness to go looking for reasons to why we are where we are and ideas on how to change it. That's only the very start of the process, and yes I do know for a fact that there's more to come. I'm not in a position to give any detail on what that it is, and that's partly down to not having full facts/details on the next step...but one is definitely in the pipeline and I fully agree with and support what I know of it so far. As much as some people might like to accuse me of having "crossed over" or being a "poacher turned gamekeeper"....I can assure you that I absolutely share all the same frustrations and disappointments as every other fan. The difference for me now, as I have said, is that things are changing and instead of wasting time and energy on being angry and upset about it, I can now spend that time and energy doing things to try and change it....either through my involvement with Caley Jags Together, or directly with the club. Yes, I do work (and need to), but I'm fortunate, I think, to work for myself and that allows me a lot of flexibility with my time. Wish I could do more, and if some rich person out there wanted to pay me to work full time for ICT then I would happily give up my other work...maybe I'll win the lottery instead!!! In saying that, it's not about how much a person does, I would be happier seeing 1000 fans give 1 hour a month than I would seeing 10 fans giving 100 hours a month....because that would be the surest indication of all that the ICT Community (Club, Fans, City, Businesses) were getting things right and everyone was supporting the club/team. All that aside....I think you, me and many others are saying we want to see much and such the same thing. I also accept that I am in a position where I'm seeing more day to day to convince me that the club board have turned a corner in terms of their approach/attitude to things and that news/message needs to be getting out there more in order to show others the same thing....point very much taken on board and will be fed back. I guess what I really want to see from fans is a bit less of "the club should be doing...." and a bit more of "how can I be doing". Again, I accept that the club/Caley Jags Together need to facilitate that and that point has been taken on board also and will be fed back. Anyway....off to hide as the "not at the game, but know everything must have been bad because we got beat brigade" will be out in full force and I find that more demoralising than anything else that's going on with the club just now.....!!!

  27. Brew left us as soon as he could. Was well on the way to getting Dundee United relegated. Failed there. Came back here when he wasn't wanted. Was pretty certain to get us relegated too. Butcher was the choice of CTO. Some might blame him for getting us relegated. I thought he gave us hope. Brought us up at the first opportunity. Has been nowhere near relegation since we came back up. Just started a new season with only one defeat and that's to the champions of last year and almost certainly this. The criticism is just way over the top this early in the season. But then, it's not about this season is it? It's about wanting someone to fail, so they can say "I'm right at last! We should never have hired him, no matter how well we've done these past few seasons!" It's just simply tedious. Shout for his head if he fails but one defeat to Celtic???? It's ridiculous.
