  1. Loved hearing the Rangers TV commentators say that it's the league that matters and they now have Alloa and Peterhead to look forward to.

  2. Oh dear. I think that this is simply indicative of the hostility that we can expect tonight as there is little doubt that we are to blame for the rangers current predicament. The club is as convinced of this as the OP, their ticketing strategy for tonight seems to be to earn enough income from the game to cover costs, and release the vast bulk of tickets as complimentaries. This ensures that they don't have to share any gate receipts with us, and that will properly punish us. Of course, if our small club status and precarious financial situation (after all, we should be out of business already) means that we do suffer, all the better because we deserve it. Of course none of this is accurate or true, and I can see that. If evidence arises that changes the picture, I will make judgements according to the weight of that evidence. But the rangers? they continue to bully, intimidate, manipulate the truth and scapegoat others for a situation that was truly of their own design and which predicated liquidation. That, my friend the OP, is bigotry.

  5. Looks like the preview chappie was right. No shock at Ibrox as third division side get pumped by the professionals from the SPL.

  9. Third division newbies looking for cup shock It's League Cup action on Wednesday night as Inverness face the team formerly known as Rangers in the quarter finals of the trophy at Ibrox. Having already taken out first division Falkirk and SPL side Motherwell, The Rangers will be looking for another scalp in the shape of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, whose progress to the quarters has been rather low key with away victories over Arbroath and a penalty shoot-out against Stenhousemuir. The Rangers have done pretty well since gaining admission to the bottom tier in Scotland's leagues and have now moved to the top of division three after only nine games, finding themselves above the mighty Elgin City and Queens Park, although they were beaten recently by bottom club Stirling Albion. However, they failed to claim the scalp of second division Queen of the South in the Ramsdens Cup, losing out on penalties, but they did win last weeks Glasgow derby aganst Clyde when goals from Dean Shiels and Lee McCulloch sealed the points for the Ibrox club. Inverness, on the other hand, have tottered along in the SPL becoming one of the highest scoring sides in Scotland, despite also having one of the leakiest defences, although they have tightened up at the back in recent weeks. Unbeaten in their last seven games and with only two defeats this season, Inverness can feel pretty smug with their business so far. It's been an encouraging start to the season and the team seem to be settling down after some early slackness and the goals have flowed in every game so far. What can we expect from this game? It would be foolish for Inverness fans to believe that we will roll over The Rangers with ease, given the disparity in the leagues. Make no mistake, the Ibrox side are still using players that would fit into most SPL sides and the removal of Motherwell from this competition in the last round shows that they will be a force on the park, if not quite so efficient in the boardroom and the bank managers office. So I imagine that The Rangers will be out to show the rest of Scottish Football that they are still a big club ............... maybe not as big as Gregory Tade's Perth, but nonetheless big enough to handle the Highlanders, and that is why they will still be favourites in most peoples eyes to progress into the semi-finals and a possible match with another Glasgow side. I see that Celtic thrashed St Johnstone in Tuesday nights game 5-0, and Aberdeen went into extra-time with St Mirren, Magennis equalising in the ninety second minute to make it 2-2, but the Buddies went on to win the penalty shoot out by 4-2 ***Latest Team News*** Inverness have no fresh injury worries, but captain Richie Foran remains sidelined. Chris Hogg, Simon King and Nick Ross are all long term injury victims. Butcher has a choice to make for the keepers jersey with Esson back to fitness, but Reguero will be difficult to shift. Shane Sutherland and Gavin Morrison will be pushing for a start and Phillip Roberts could be rested with Conor Pepper waiting for his chance. Andy Shinnie is still searching for the two balls he fired high over the bar in the last game, let's hope he sets his sghts a bit lower on Wednesday night. Rangers defender Sebastien Faure will miss the League Cup quarter final against Inverness. Winger David Templeton is back in training after an ankle injury but is not back to full fitness yet. Spaniard Francisco Sandaza and Kane Hemmings remain out. tm4tj Prediction:- I would like to think that we could get into the next round of this competition, but Ibrox is not the easiest of grounds to attempt that. Our scoring record and tightening defence will be an asset, and I think we can do it, possibly needing extra-time and penalties, but we do have goal scorers around the park and let's hope we can keep that record going.

  11. I've followed football for a good number of years now and I've come through more than one recession in that time. I dont think it would take too much research to see that in times of recession football crowds go down. I also talk to many people from many areas of the country about this very subject and many do not attend games any more because, to use the words of one person, the game here is run by a duo-dictatorship who have the officials of all the governing bodies in their pockets. Many are sickened by the general product on offer and by the media bias towards Glasgow. Many choose instead to go play a game of golf, a sport that costs a deal more than a season ticket, or watch a different sport. Many people just aren't interested in football so perhaps we have levelled out at what is our realistic share of the population. Looking at the catchment area of our club we have to compete with shinty and rugby both of which are quite well supported. The way to increase attendances is not to cut prices, thats been tried and failed, its to nurture the fans of the future. That is being done but it takes a generation or two to reap the benifits of the current investment. Not only must you get the kids supporting the club but you have to break the bond, brought about by the influx of imigrants from the overspilling city to the west of Stirling, that is Celtic and Rangers. Many people will have many excuses for not attending. Those unemployed and/or on low incomes will always blame cost. Those who can afford the cost will blame the product and those who can afford but cant blame the product will always have a prior engagement. At the end of the day this debate will go on and on.

  24. Well maybe you should take a look at them - before you start commenting on the manner in which they are being reported. Because if you had bothered to take a look at the Chairman's Annual Report you would have seen that it is the Chairman himself who raises and highlights the issue that if measures had not been taken to boost the squad beyond what was originally budgeted last season, then the financial situation might have been a whole lot worse in that the club could have been relegated. The quotes on BBC online are directly from the Chairman's annual report - and these are also the quotes used on the back page of the PandJ (30.10.12.) which takes exactly the same line. So if you have an objection to the manner in which the Chairman is presenting the club's losses in the public domain, maybe you should raise that directly with him.... once you get back from Damascus, like I have no issue with the Chairmans Report on the accounts (which I have read) as it clearly states that there's an improvement on the balance sheet....a small but vital detail that is totally overlooked in the BBC Article. Whether that was through ignorance or intent I have no idea....but equally irresponsible either way.

  25. Bottom line is that we need more bums on seats, and on Saturday I think anyone could have reasonably expected more to turn up. Smee, the movie analogy doesn't work. Any blockbuster movie (or any globally famous band) has a far greater reach than us, and can set the ticket price knowing that they will get millions buying the product. Comparing a one off ticket price for a concert that would last for an couple of hours to a season or so's worth of football, is curious in its logic. With the greatest of respect to you, for ICT that ain't never going to work. Reduce the prices and the figures just don't stack up. There is a case to say that the match day experience could be better and therefore offer more value, but price deduction, no. There is, by the way, an amazing amount of work going on by the club and others to improve the experience; the football's better, the league is more compeditive, fans are more involved. Maybe you might want to add your ideas.
