  1. Where in the world is Fisher? Aside from Mckay, he's our best striker by miles. This ostracisation by the manager has to end now. It could have huge consequences both in terms of whether the club stays us and whether he'll still be in-charge next season.

Polworth has a fair bit of work to do if he is to become a nailed on first team pick. Nobody "deserves" to be a first team pick, they have to earn it and Polworth has not done that for me yet. As for Greg Tansey, I am astonished that some posters are effectively saying good riddance to him and he was not that great a player/will be a big loss. He has been the midfielder most able to influence games for us and we are undoubtedly a poorer team without him. I don't think he has been as bad this season as some make out but not playing him in his best position in games has diminished his influence in my opinion. All the best Greg for the future.
  3. I still feel we have enough in the squad, but the tactics have been the real let down all season. There were very few positives today, but McNaughton was excellent when he came on, even though he is nowhere near being a wing back - we don't have anybody who can play that role! Not sure what the formation was for the last half hour: Draper was playing as a striker, Tansey was given far too much ground to cover in centre mid. Where was Laing playing? CDM? What about Cole - he was quite effective until the team lost shape. Square pegs in round holes (or no holes!) all over the place. I have no idea what our best team for Aberdeen will be, but sadly, nor does Richie.
  4. There were a few signs of life early in the second half, but ultimately we were hanging on at the end - three great saves from OFW kept us level. That's now 1 win from the last 18 league games, which is almost half a season's worth. Our tactics left us up against it from the word go. What manager thinks it is a good idea to play five of his starting eleven out of position - Raven, Brad Mckay, Laing, Draper and Cole (who is not an inverted winger, for the love of goodness). I'm sorry, but that's just idiocy. Laing was redundant as a defensive midfielder - Killie simply kept going wide and bypassing him, whilst he offered nothing in possession. We've been so much better in recent weeks with Draper playing deeper and offering a physical presence and proper protection, allowing Tansey to concentrate on getting on the ball and making things happen. Inexplicably, Foran played Draper further forward so we had no control in midfield at all. Thus the ball was just punted over Tansey's head again and again and again. That's even though Killie rarely pressed our centre-backs. Draper as a second striker just doesn't work. He's not that good in the air, nor is he particularly good at holding up the ball. Just because the guy is big doesn't mean he can play as a target man. Mckay is so isolated it's unreal. Either concentate on trying to dominate possession (which we would have done today with Polworth/Draper/Tansey as our midfield three) so he gets decent service, or play a proper target man alongside him. Ostracizing Alex Fisher at this point is a remarkable piece of self-harm on Foran's part. I refuse to believe that we couldn't compensate for Tremarco's absence more effectively than using three different players at left-back. Brad Mckay probably isn't good enough for this level in his best position (centre-back) but at right-back he's proven himself to be dreadful. Subbing him was an act of mercy. Foran showed his 'tactical genius' by switching the full-backs in the first half after Jones had roasted Mckay for the umpteenth time...only for Killie to immediately switch Jones to the other flank so he could skin him a few times more. Well, duh. It's incredible that Foran couldn't see that coming a mile off. We were lucky no more damage was done before Mckay was hooked. It's hard to know if its lack of confidence, or lack of faith in the plan (or both) but most of the players really didn't want to be on the ball today. I lost count of the number of times that our players chose to head or punt a ball away even with no opponent within 10 yards of them. We look like a team that has already been relegated, not one who still has a fighting chance of staying up.
  5. Turns out it was a problem with the tannoy system. Someone understood what the guy was saying. But don't worry it will be back to normal for todays game where you have to guess what he is telling us over the top of some weird music.
  6. Of course the graph does not show the teams in the division below us. Realistically with our budget we should be a bog standard side in the Championship. We are over-achieving by virtue of the fact that we still have a decent chance of staying in the top flight. As for St Johnstone, they are really the miracle of Scottish Football. They are a club from a small city with a population less than Inverness and with bigger city clubs not far away, and yet for a significant majority of the last 60 years they have had a team in the top league.
  7. A point at Pittodrie on Tuesday could be a lifesaver. It will take an enormous effort to achieve that though.

I think Tansey had an OK game today. I've seen him play better and I've also seen him play a lot worse. I think his performance suffered today from a bit of confusion around the make up of the team and its shape. I don't see any issue with his attitude for the rest of the season. I expect him to be in the side on Tuesday against Aberdeen and for him to be keen to show the Don's fans what a good player they have signed. I also expect the celebrations for his hat trick to be respectfully restrained.
  9. Nonsense. Fisher's chances usually amounted to substitute appearances and you could never doubt his work rate when he did play. I have no doubt his goal tally would be far better had he played more. Give me him over the hapless Boden and the hopeless Anier any day.
  10. How bad was Brad McKay ... and how good was McNaughton.
  11. Penalty was a stone-waller. Mackay absolutely skinned, but didn't need to go to ground. Madden got that right, but agree that most of his decisions were shambolic!
  12. My first and probs last game of this season and well I'm not sure where I can see us beat the drop. The players are good enough but I think when Richie said at the start of the season that the football will be more direct, they take it to literally. We are a better side than lumping it to draper but that's what happened but when we got it down that's when we created the best chances. I thought Tansey was top notch and although I'm disappointed he is leaving his commitment to keeping us can't be questioned like some seem to think. We concede silly goals and unfortunately we don't create enough chances to make it more likely we will win. Billy's shot was saved well but had we created more, then that save may have not been as crucial. A point may have been fair but at this stage we need wins and one a day where we had other games in our favour we have lost out which could be huge. If we end up in the play offs I think we still have enough quality to stay up but ATM we are just battling to play for our right to stay up let alone stay up. Wasn't the worst performance ever but ultimately not good enough and matches are running out
  13. 1 win in 18 games is pathetic. We don't have the worst team in the league, we just have the worst manager.
  14. SHOCKING Management - you simply can't chop and change - suggests NO idea of how to play !! Let's add one more adjective - AMATEUR

At least he will have a familiar face in the form of Miles Storey to chat to whilst sitting on the bench.
  16. With first Barry Robson followed by Adam Rooney Jonny Hayes, Graeme Shinnie,, Miles Storey , Ryan Christie and now Greg Tansey Aberdeen FC have decided to honour their A96 recruitment policy In their new strip for next season
  17. Hopefully after that you will step in as the new Chairman and we will make the final stages of the champions league in 2 years looking forward to it
  18. Which is precisely what we were NOT doing under Hughes.
  19. Ach well, we never won, but hey, we never lost............................
  20. The ICT board are to blame for the predicament we find ourselves in, I know I've called for Foran to quit on the matchday thread but they are ultimately responsible for putting a man in a managerial position without managerial experience An absolutely ludicrous decision and if Foran does go they should also stand down with immediate effect as they don't have the clubs best interests at heart Dougal

Agree with DD. Tansey was deserted in midfield when Draper was stuck up front. There was no lack of effort on his part and I applaude him for that. I'd play him at Aberdeen: we're not exactly blessed with players of his talent and I have no doubt he'll do his very best for us.
  22. Scarlet - Brad was no where near the ball. By going to ground like that he gave the referee a decision to make - not a good idea today. But to be fair, that was as nailed on a penalty as you'll see ever.

Mann, Wyness and G Shinnie were as good as ever for us after securing their futures elsewhere, same goes for guys like Watkins who didn't have PCAs but had clearly decided to move on. If there's nothing to play for then you can drop the player and try out some alternatives for next season - but we simply aren't in that position!

I thought Tansey showed commitment today and was wanting to push on for a win. I don't doubt that will be the same for the rest of the season, including Tuesday as he will want to show Aberdeen what he is capable of.
  25. There have been times this season when we have lost but when I came away feeling that the team had played well and we had been entertained. Not to day, I'm afraid. Today we were the poorer of two poor teams and whilst a win was far more important to us, Kilmarnock looked like the side which wanted it more. I cannot agree with Foran's comment after the game when he said "I'm delighted with the players' attitude, passion, endeavour." In general I think our attitude has been good this season but today I thought there were too many players who lacked the passion and endeavour. There were players looking to give somebody else the ball even when they were in space to put pressure on Kilmarnock, there were too many players not going for the 50:50 balls and too many players not providing the movement required to open up Kilmarnock. I was pleased to see Cole start but whilst he did a lot of good work there was simply too little support for him to create much. Kilmarnock were there for the taking and it is disappointing not to have taken the 3 points. Apart from Cole, I thought McNaughton was very good when he came on - he's a real class act, and Billy proved again that he might well be the difference between staying up or not. MOTM for me though was probably OFW - a fact which tells it;s own story of the number of chances we allowed a poor Kilmarnock side. Draper had one of his poorest games for us, and whilst I was glad to see King start, he was totally ineffective and perhaps should have been hooked sooner. Brad Mckay was the villain of the piece though. A stonewall penalty and he was very lucky a little later when the impressive Jones beat him in the box again but was skilful enough to skip over Mckay's awful challenge. Had he not done so, it would have been another penalty and a red card. With Partick winning today I think they are as good as safe with 37 points. I can't see Kilmarnock or an out of form Dundee catching them for top 6, but even if they did, there are 4 teams averaging less than a point a game and another couple of draws in their remaining 8 games would probably be enough. I think it is now a case of "and then there were 6".
  26. Laing in midfield and Polworth on the bench. Aye alright then
  27. Madden was a disgrace, but having said that it was a penalty all day long. The really disappointing thing is that Kilmarnock are no better than us. Unfortunately we don't seem to know how to win games. In theory, we can still get ourselves out of this mess, but it is difficult to see how we can get the wins we need.
  28. Have to disagree on this. That was not the only tactic we used but as time went on, we needed to try and win somehow so every tactic had to be followed. The key today was getting the second goal, same as the County game but we couldn't get it. We were the better team today and nobody will convince me otherwise. Sure at the end, we were hanging on a bit but we were chasing the game for a winner so had to take some risks which I don't think is being appreciated. The pressure Kilmarnock had was what we had for large parts of the game, no more no less. I agree we need some luck, which we simply are not getting at the moment but we are certainly not relegated yet.
  29. That. Was. Dreadful. You can set up as many different formations as you like but if you only have one tactic, punt and hope for the best, then you don't have a chance. As someone said, we were hanging on towards the end and lucky to escape with a point. Foran cuts a frustrated figure and I do feel sorry for him. But I just can't see where a win is going to come from let alone the 3 or 4 minimum that we need. At best and with a lot of luck we'll get the playoffs. But at the moment, and it's no more than we have deserved this season, it looks like certain relegation.

My view is that anybody that has the nerve to sign a pre-contract with another team should be frozen out. Tansey has been a great servant and endeared himself to many - but why Aberdeen - and consider why he is suddenly playing better when he probably knew that the deal was done ?
  31. Today was a day when we should definitely have been picking up more points than Hamilton and Motherwell.
  32. I fancy taking the 3pts today. (no...not an april fool)

I've been waiting all season for us to really cut loose and thrash a team. The closest we came to that was the 3-0 win at Motherwell but we have never come close since. I think if we were to play 2 wingers plus Fisher and Billy Mckay up front v Killie then it will increase our chances of that happening.
  34. Adam Rooney scored tonight (31 Mar) in Aberdeen's 7-0 pumping of Dundee. btw I am going to be out of the country for the next couple of weeks with limited access to the Internet, so my updates on this thread may be patchy (or non existent). I'll do a 'catch up' when I get back.
  35. Most of those players have ended up at Aberdeen via some other team. It's frustrating to see so many of our players head along the road specifically Hayes, Shinnie and now Tansey but what irks the most is that we've gotten nothing for these guys when we've lost them. At least when Dundee United have lost some of their best players to Celtic they've got some money back for them.

i am speaking for myself? never declared i was speaking on behalf of anyone else? I respectfully disagree, while possibly unsettling other players and perhaps Richie, i think this may actually settle Tansey, as it removes the cloud of doubt and uncertainty hanging over him. the relevance of the house - it's called an analogy. perhaps not the best one I could have come up with, but actually thought it was pretty self-explanatory

Couldn't put it better....GT has been a good player for us (one of our better?) across the seasons he's been with us, think we will miss him next season, hope he fares better at Aberdeen than Miles Storey (but obviously hope he's rubbish when he plays against us)
  38. A tweet this week from Alex Fisher about taking part in community walking football with a bunch of older fellas. It included a fairly loaded comment about good to game time. Must be a bust-up. However I'd sooner have Anier support Mckay. Fisher had plenty chances in the team earlier in the season and could summon up 2 goals. Tremarco from defence was way more prolific!

FFS: 7-0 loss at home to Aberness for Dundee. Remember those dark days after losing 6-0 to Celtic in the cup? There are some other teams at least as bad as we are - let's take advantage and tear Killie to pieces. The only worry is that we play Aberness next....and Dungdee's next game is at County...

Feck this...... forget what I said about putting differences to one side, get Tansey out the starting 11 and Polworth in.
  41. Brad MacKay foul - and WHY is the Judas scouser playing ?
