  7. I must agree with Scotty on this one . there has been a fair bit of derision aimed at Barnsley about not being the best place etc . I for one have never been to Barnsley and could certainly not comment on the pros and cons of living there . As regards there football team I am sure their fans support their team avidly as we do ours and bear them no malice or ill will. I do hope we still have our management team in place and they take us to the league cup final and our highest ever position in the league but if that is not to be the case I wish them well and will give all my support to whoever takes the helm . ICT now and always

  8. No negative reaction to that to be honest .... there's been some slagging of Barnsley in this thread and he is coming on defending his team, just like we would do (and have done) on other forums in the past ......

  9. Ah, its good to see now that as he is on the verge of possibly leaving the 'anti-butcher' brigade can come back out and say that he isnt really that good, we can do better, best get rid now when someone wants him etc etc and then don't have to focus on our achievements so far this season which have been heavily influenced by Terry & Mo. Thank god I'm a 'happy clapper'

  10. If they are throwing names about from the lower leagues surely Alistair McCoist would be near the top of the list, is he not looking to be at the second best club in Scotland!

  11. I hope that he stays - as he deserves to be part of how this season ends up - irrespective of the outcome. He is evidently a major cog in a finely tuned team improvement. I would also be surprised if he left from a personal perspective as I thought that he appeared to be very settled in the area and he could add to his income by increasing his media outings, which I doubt any of us would disagree with. My fear is that he may have his own vision of where ICT should be going and how to get there and others may disagree - again even if it was from a financial perspective. That would cheese off anybody and I could wholly understand why he would go in those circumstances. Again unfortunately TB has evidently shown his interest in moving and it is now up to Barnsley to sell themselves to TB rather than vice versa. And if that fails then he will be in the shop window for any Championship or League 1 jobs coming up in the future. I would prefer to lose him now rather than in 2 or 5 weeks time. My other major concern is how this squad of players will react to his departure. He certainly appears to have bonded a "togetherness" and I would suspect that several are staying at the club because of an affinity to TB. Again I would not whollt lament the departure of Terry and Mo if I knew that the current squad was going to remain intact. But there again the writing must have been on the wall for the players when TB went in the fray for the Ipswich job - Lets face it he is offski - if not now in the near future. He certainly has improved his CV at ICT and went a way to demonstrate that previous posts were potentially not as disastrous as they looked. Again I fear that he flattered to deceive at ICT in a tactical sense. There is no doubt that he has charisma and charm and can "talk the talk". To many he was, is and always be an iconical figure. I am slo led to believe that he was a disciplinarian and stood his ground. From the narcissistic profile perspective (seriously) he may now not adequately feel the love and devotion and needs a renewed challenge to endear himself - and where better in the staunch English bastion of Barnsley where most supporters will remember the old centre half and will idolise him from the off. If he has put in a view of the future and has been rebuked then that would be a major blow to his super-ego. His name and manner alone will be an attraction and lets face it barnsley want an appointment tomorrow. The "bottom line" to me is that he is not a tactician and never will be. The signing of the likes of Draper, Raven and Warren were NOT of his making although his "name" linked with the SPL would have been a major positive. The formation that has become so consistent was as much created by injuries and suspensions than anything else and he still struggles when we have to change personnel or tactics I actually suspect that the players have had a big say in the style of play. But I doubt if there are many that would say that they did not enjoy the full Butcher experience despite its rollercoastering journey. Lets just hope that whoever takes over has that extra bit of tactical know-how but holds on to the present squad at the same time. As fer timing this is the worst possible moment - and fer that reason alone Butcher will be letting us all down if he jumps ships, irrespective of whether there are hidden agendas or not - and he may well scupper the rest of the season at the same time. And finally please, please tell me that our illustrious board have secnd guessed this and have a list of nominees waiting in the wings - the last thing that we need is to be managerless or be led my Mispass for the semi-final.

  12. ICT's goalkeeping coach and scout. And an unsung hero who finally deserves his own thread? It has been mentioned by a few people on here that it is actually Steve, and not Terry, who trawls the English lower leagues and non-leagues to discover gems like the current crop. I remember back in the summer there were fans on here unhappy that we were signing players from the likes of Newport, but bloody hell, who would you rather have in central defence, Warren or Munro? Twice the player at half the cost. That's what we need to punch above our weight like we are doing just now. Then there's Draper and Raven. And presumably he had a big say in signing Regeuro too. It speaks volumes that for our latest signing target, Danny Devine, Butcher has admittedly never seen him play but trusts the reports he's had. I was wondering what Marsella's background is but couldn't find a decent profile anywhere so I pieced together a few snippets from Google. A Huddersfield lad, he was a YTS keeper with Halifax. At some stage he somehow ended up having a long spell as keeper for Elgin in the HL. He then moved in being a goalkeeping coach, which included doing work for the SFA for many years, seemingly a community coaching role in the north-east of Scotland. Round about 10 years ago he was doing a lot of GK coaching in England, often part-time and possibly on a freelance basis, for the likes of Worksop, Barnsley, Grimsby and Notts Co. At Worksop he doubled up as Commercial Manager. He presumably had his first involvement with Butcher when they were at Brentford at the same time - Marsella was Groundmsan as well as GK coach! By 2009 he was at Crewe, where bizarrely his resignation was announced 2 weeks after he joined - but days later, he was back in place. In 2010 he joined up with Terry at ICT, and since then I don't think we can have any complaints at all about the standard of goalkeeping. His scouting talent and large network of contacts is a real bonus. Whatever happens with Terry (and Mo) it would seem important to us that Marsella stays.

  13. No idea who he is, Couldn't do any worse than Hill im sure If we dont get Terry we want his Dog Terry was all set to sign for you, but I told him if he did I was going to eat the dog. How certain are you that he's staying (percentage wise)?? Not too sure....somewhere between 99 and 101.

While I am at it, rehashing Twitter rumours is not news either. It's not even interesting because most will have already read it...last night...on twitter...same time as you read it. Thanks CaleyD

  21. Daily Record article: "They (ICT) are aware former boss John Robertson is keen to get back into management and ex-Caley Thistle star Paul Sheerin has impressed at Arbroath, while Paul Hartley is making waves at Alloa. Ex-Inverness manager Charlie Christie is also interested and Elgin City’s Ross Jack is another who has been tipped to succeed Butcher at some point." Translation: We really haven't got a clue but we still had another paragraph to fill.

  22. Hi, Barnsley fan in peace, Just read through the page about butcher to Barnsley. Firstly no idea if he will come to us or not and no silly comments about our club is bigger etc. To be honest there are good reasons to be at either club but for me you just have the edge. just like to clear a few things up. SOD was fans favourite and probably the boards first choice, but has SOD himself has stated, they never discussed terms or anything. Its the main view of most fans that he is waiting for his compo to be sorted out with Forest before returning to management. He clearly says its too early. on subject of us selling our best players, Craig Davies was a decent league 2 striker, come to us last year and had a £300k minimum fee in his contract. was ok last season, scored 8 goals this season including 4 against Birmingham and has been crap ever since. his minimum fee has been met and we cant do owt about it, Not many BFC fans are sad to see him go. First touch is very bad, he's lazy and not good enough for championship. The other scot Wiseman is truly Awful and one of the reasons Hill got the sack. Wiseman is a rightback who cant defend, yet Hill played him at center back all season and he has cost us goal after goal. Hill brought him with him from Rochdale and has blindly stuck by him. Theres a thread on our board with everyone in hysterics that Blackpool are buying him. So no were not selling our best players. One plus point we do have is a group of youths who are on long contracts and worth some cash, one lad John stones is already worth more than 3 million with Prem sides already hovering. We actually have a decent team, and if our best players were to be played in their correct positions we could easily climb the league, but Hill has never played the same team twice and at times made 4-5 changes from game to game. I think the main thing in our favour is the success Butcher has had with you lot may give him the confidence that he could save us from relegation and have a real go at the championship. I dont want to put the SPL down, but if Butcher wants to coach at the highest level then the best route to the EPL is via the championship. anyway, whatever happens, Good luck for the rest of the season, great to see some different teams in that second place. Long may it last btw best Barnsley forum is http://v2.barnsleyfc.org.uk where Butcher is the poll leader

  23. Right having read some of the possible replacements being mentioned on here no way can we allow Terry to leave. The board need to kidnap him, bribe him anything to save us from the fate that could await us if he goes!!

  27. I didn't think Barsnley would have been a serious option for Butcher but he still held talks with them instead of knocking them back straight away. I think this is a bad sign for the future. If a bigger club higher up in the Championship came after him I suspect he would go.

  29. It's a thread about the merger boy . You probably weren't even born when we were scrapping with other likeminded lads all over the Highlands . i wasnt saying dont talk about the merger. i said stop with the bitterness. scrapping? harcore mun Those were the glory days grasshopper when we pulverised Putridheid, battered the Broch, destroyed Deveronvale, bruised the Buckie, K.O'd Keith, hammered Huntly, Rogered Rothes, looted Lossie, exterminated Elgin, flattened Forres, clattered the Clach, jettisoned the jeggies and crucified the County. And Fraz yer uncle had the best feckin name ever but never bought a drink

  34. Problem is even if we did spend that money there is no guarantee it would be achieved, and there is no possibility the board could get close to what is on offer in the Championship

  35. I have been thinking about the repercussions if Terry did go anywhere now. He then takes a couple/3 players, takes the management team, we fail to reach League cup final, drop down the league, lose in Scottish cup, finish out of top 6, miss out in Euro place. Would it be worth it to the board, to spend some money on Butcher/players now, to persuade him to stay. Because the loss of potential earnings is quite substantial. Thats not to say any new management team/players wouldn't win the treble. But less likely. Still think/hope he will stay though.

  37. Didn't know whether to post this or not but the source is usually very reliable. Apparently Barnsley contacted Terry via a third party (possibly Kevin Beattie) on Sunday to see if he would be interested. Terry asked very few questions and told them to contact ICT chairman. One question that was asked was "Is it just me, or all the coaching staff?". The Barnsley director involved was non- commital on this but asked if TB would meet with owners and directors. The rest is well documented.

  38. Absolutely, it's unique within the Scottish game, displays an intertwining of Inverness Thistle and Caledonian and would end the calls of the club showing a bias towards the latter. I also believe that a Caledonian style home shirt and Thistle away is a ridiculous idea that would do nothing more than open up old wounds. Bring back the stripes! unique to Elgin City??

  39. Things could get "better" if at the END of the season we were still in a top four place, even better if second and in the Champions league - had made two cup finals and won at least one of them. Barcelona would be in the feckin hunt then !!

  43. I fear he is going to go, will be pleasantly surprised if he stays. As for possible replacements, here are some that I strongly do not want: Jimmy Calderwood - vastly overrated John Robertson - Great manager first time around but I don't think he would be the answer again Barry Wilson - not ready yet but could be further down the line Maurice Malpas - he's not a number 1 Anyway hopefully Tel will stay and we can draw breath until the next club comes calling for him.

  44. At the minute nothing has changed, we still have a manager and the same players.

  45. For the reasons I gave in post 27 I think Terry would be mad to leave. But as things have developed somewhat since I wrote that, I'll add another little thought. As others have said, it's a choice of money or glory because there is no way on earth that Barnsley are ever getting into the Premier league. So if he leaves, it will be for the money. But in my view, a move to Barnsley motivated by money would actually demonstrate a major lack of belief in his own abilities. Let's be honest, he hasn't actually achieved a great deal as a manager. Yes, he's been a relative success here but we have still not reached a major cup final or finished in the top six. Current interest in him is about what he might achieve - we are 2nd in the league and in both cups, but we've won nothing yet. By the end of the season we might be bottom 6 and not have progressed beyond a cup semi-final - in which case other clubs will soon lose interest. On the other hand, if we maintain our 2nd place in the league and win one of the cups then that will be a tremendous achievement and Terry will suddenly become very marketable indeed. If that were to happen Terry could expect to attract interest from bigger clubs than Barnsley offering considerably more they they could. So if money is the motive, why go now? If Terry is in it for the money (which I don't actually believe) then he should wait to the end of the season when he's actually achieved something. If he goes now then that would suggest to me that he has no belief in his ability to lead ICT to success this season. If that is the case, then Barnsley is actually quite an attractive option as he could blame failure and relegation on what's gone before and basic survival can be viewed as success. If he has any ambition and faith in his own abilities, he'll stay.

  47. Terry was down in Weegie land the other day and bumped into Neil Doncaster. In the conversation, over a glass of wine at the Counting House, Terry mentioned that he had aquired a bit of land near Drumnadrochit but wasn't sure what to do with it. Neil say's 'why dont you put up a barn, slay some deer and hang them in it. A Daily Ranger reporter was sitting at the next table and the rest is on the news.
