At least Butcher succeeded in bringing the crowds to Easter Road.

Just to clarify my position (to Terry): (pre-Butcher) Ship jumpers: That's life - I've spoken to OTJ since he left, I still think he's a good man, and I likely always will. (post-Butcher) Ship jumpers: Malpas and Marsella - no hard feelings - i hope all goes well for you in the future. (Butcher): If only you'd not been having a jolly with your future employers on 9th November 2013, while pretending you still hadn't decided, I and many others would wish you all the best. However, the reality of what you did that afternoon makes us all rejoice at your current plight. I briefly felt sympathy for you when I saw your picture during the penalties earlier, and then I remembered how you shat on us. South American team to win the World Cup? Argentina for me.

Malpas in the Scotsman on 13th Nov 13 - “I want to be at a club that’s got a chance to win trophies. Caley Thistle have got a great chance this season, but I just felt the potential here is far greater. “I’m a football guy who likes being on the training field and the facilities here are unbelievable. And it’s not anything to do with money. It’s about the things here that Caley couldn’t give me. That’s why, as soon as Terry asked me, I said yes." Potential to win Championship Trophy and the things Caley couldn't give....................lower league football
  5. Haven't got a clue about those hearsays you publish but I do know this. Butcher has gone. He is no longer an ICT manager sowhatever happened, or didn't happen, prior to his departure has absolutely no bearing on our future so would it not be better to look to the future and leave the past in the past?

I thought in many ways that it was fitting that Butcher left ICT under a cloud. He left loathed and ridiculed and that's all he deserved for his treatment of Russell Duncan, Grant Munro and Ross Tokely. His treatment of them was nothing short of disgraceful. I've alluded to this before, but Butcher's way of offloading Tokely was petty and bitter. As I said on here in 2011, Butcher wanted Tokely gone with Munro and Duncan. I heard this from a couple of sources, one of which was from the inside. The only reason Tokely lasted one season longer was because of a clause in his contract that meant he got a years extension after playing X amount of matches. After the backlash from the fans over the Munro/Duncan debacle, Butcher offered Tokely a deal he knew he would turn down, so that "officially" the choice to leave was his. That deal was 50% of his current contract, though I have heard rumours from elsewhere that the deal was even more than that, somewhere in the region of £300 per week. Remember, Tokely (without revealing the figures) referred to the offer as an insult. That was the reason why. It's also interesting to note what happened when I leaked this information on here. Many totally dismissed it at the time and even when Tokely did go (for the reasons I stated), I was mocked and had my credibility attacked. This was of course, from posters who believed everything Butcher said and believed he could walk on water. Wonder if they feel that way now? While I wish no ill will on Hibernian or their supporters, I'm pleased to see Butcher's image tarnished. The way he treated this club, it's fans and it's players was nothing short of a disgrace. He is a classless and disloyal manager, who thought he was not only too big for ICT, but for the Highlands in general. Nothing better than the sweet taste of schadenfreude. The chickens have come home to roost.

I had the fortune of watching the highlights without knowing the score! I'm still trying to digest the ramifications of this development! A stunning outcome.... Butcher looked a broken man in his post-match interview! And Petrie looked dismayed, embarrassed and angry. I wonder what he's now thinking re. Terry?! As much as I loved Butcher at Inverness, I feel no pain for his predicament - a situation that's significantly of his own making. Schadenfreud!!! I loved Terry 'talking up' our club, Inverness and the Highlands in general. He was a boon and certainly increased our profile - I'll always be thankful for that. Steve Paterson went to Aberdeen which was utterly gutting but grudgingly forgivable as managing the Dons was a long-held ambition of his. John Robertson went to Hearts - a 'Jambo' legend! Craig Brewster to Dundee United - Huge United icon (at the time!) But Butcher to Hibs? Absolutely no connection! Sheer greed and a misguided perspective of potential success with a club rotten from the core - so no sympathy from me! I wonder if he's got the stomach to carry on? Or, one day, admit he made a big error of judgement. Rumours that he's going to quit will now grow. His managerial career may well now be in tatters. A job-for-life at a progressive club, with a life-style the envy of many. The renewed respect of his work in Inverness from a football community who still found him 'relevant' enough to invite onto network TV England games. Cowdenbeath and Alloa is now the reality for Terry, If he still has a job!

This is worse than his relegation with us. When he took over at ICT we were in last place and that's where we finished in the end. At Hibs he took them from respectable mid table to, in terms of points gained on the pitch, the very worst team in the league in the course of half a season. Remarkable. More remarkable still, three of the biggest five teams in the land in terms of home gates not in the top league. I f this is Armageddon I'm quite enjoying it..
  9. It's all very well to say that ticket prices should be slashed to try and get more people through door. I'm sure the club (and other clubs too) would love to take the price down to try and get more people to come however there are real financial issues to take account of. Our prices are in line with the rest of the Premiership and I'd imagine are set to try and maximise the income, much higher and there would be a large drop off in people coming, much less and the extra people coming doesn't make up for reduced prices. We've had a couple of good seasons so I believe our finances are reasonably healthy but if I recall before this we'd often be looking for about £200k a season to balance our books which we seemingly managed to do through various means. So where do we cut prices from as we run on a very tight budget? No doubt if we slashed prices and made a huge loss people would be on here moaning that we're not financially prudent enough and the board could be threatening the future of the club, or perhaps we could cut the playing budget to pay for it, would folk be happy with that? It's nonsense to compare us to Germany or even England and say 'but look they're cheaper, or just a wee bit more expense and look at the world class football you can see' These leagues and teams take in in colossal amounts from sponsorship, tv rights and investment and can quite frankly afford to make it cheaper for their fans. We can't, the prices are where they are because that's where they need to be. If we were turning millions in profit every season, fair enough we could afford to cut prices but we don't, personally I think it's more scandalous that they have the cheek to charge over £3 for a hot dog but that stops me eating more fast food so it's probably a good thing tbh.

There is one thing I know for sure- BUTCHER WILL WALK - probably tomorrow & the next day with Fritz by his side
  11. Perhaps it was fortuitous that Yogi took over as the Narcissistic Judas may have dropped us in to the relegation mire and we could have been playing Hamilton.

I would doubt there would be a clause in his contract which allowed the club to relieve Butcher of his contract so early without compensation in the event of relegation. To sack him and Malpas now will not only cost money which is needed on players but will require a search for a new manager to pick up the poisoned chalice. The irony here is that the type of manager they need in the situation they are in is exactly the type of manager Butcher is. That is someone who can bring in underachieving players on the cheap and realise their potential as part of a team that complement each other's strengths. He did that well here and our drop in form since he left is perhaps a testament to just how good he was at that. At Hibs he has not had a chance to do what he is good at. Appointing Butcher could well have signalled a recognition from Petrie that unless you are a very rich club, you cannot buy success, you have to build it. He would have considered Butcher as a long term appointment. There was always going to be a big clear out of players at Easter Road for Butcher to develop his team with his players. Neither Petrie nor Butcher would have expected relegation but Butcher was always on a hiding to nothing for the rest of this season, after all, if you make it crystal clear that there will be big changes to the playing staff you can hardly expect the players to be particularly motivated. If Petrie can keep faith with Butcher I can see relegation being almost a blessing in disguise for the club. Rebuilding a team rarely brings instant success but you can be sure that had Hibs stayed up there would have been an expectation for Hibs to be top six at least next year with failure to achieve that putting pressure on his position. Down a level gives a better opportunity to rebuild over time. With Both Rangers and Hearts in the mix, not winning promotion next season would not be a disaster but yet after 2 seasons in the championship, Butcher should have been able to produce a strong team that will be a real force in the top flight the following year. Butcher would have that advantage that players are more likely to want to move to Edinburgh than to Inverness and the club will be able to pay more to attract and keep the players Butcher wants. If he can repeat what he has done here but with the added bonus of being able to attract better players, then Hibs could be a pretty formidable team in a couple of years time. The question is whether Petrie has the guts and the patience to give Butcher the chance to do what it was he originally hired him for, or will he take the coward's way out and use Butcher as the scapegoat to appease the anger of the fans.

Maybe in deference to TBs ICT connections, we should offer to play Hibs at Easter Road so that they have at least one pre season friendly against glamorous top league opposition....
  16. 1 point
Right enough. All our current players were first-teamers in the upper echelons of the EPL. If a team is in the lower leagues, it means there isn't a single player that could go higher, so we should only try to sign players from teams above for a transfer fee we don't have, for wages we can't afford. Just as we always have.

With The Rangers, Hearts and now Hibs all moving into the Championship there should be some pretty decent gates in that division next season. This will be not just for games between the big three, but clubs such as QOS and Cowdenbeath will find the season a real money spinner. The top flight will be without 3 big clubs and that will impact on the average gates, in fact there may not be a lot between the average gates in the 2 divisions. Whilst money continues to talk in the football world in general, it has been a good year for the smaller clubs in Scotland. We had another top 6 finish, County survived another season in the top flight, St J won the Scottish cup for the first time in their long history, Cowdenbeath prevailed over Dunfermline in the League one play off and today Hamilton saw off the once mighty Hibs. I can't help but think that this must be really good for the game in Scotland. As for Butcher, I know he only has himself to blame but all this vindictive gloating is really in rather poor taste given all he did for our club. However, I'm not averse to a bit of bad taste myself from time to time - so Relegation Terry?

Will definitely be an interesting championship next season....how long though before there are calls for a 16 or 18 team league next season....

Always on the cards. I have taken a special interest in this one. Backing whoever Hibs were playing has netted me a tidy sum. I even backed Hamilton to win 2 0 today at 20/1. Went to Hibs Killie game. they were dire then and they are dire now. Oh Mr Butcher................what have you done??

With the two T.V companies probably wanting to show more Hearts, Hibs and Rangers away games it should mean more 3pm Saturday kick offs for us. All good as far as I'm concerned.

  30. A legends summer derby would be good, as long as we get Tokes and Munro. I could see both clubs doing well for local charities.
  31. I had the view that if you reduce prices you get x amount more through the door. What blew that theory clean out of the water was that for all the season ticket holders that we have, the numbers hardly increased when they could take someone for free ! Scottish cup QF £10 adults £5 children. You need x amount of fans to break even, any extra fans are pure profit. Pulling figures out of thin air, if a seat costs £25, 2000 generate £50,000 if that is the figure to break even, then at £15 you have to suddenly find an extra 1,333 fans paying full price just to break even, an increase of 66.6% and even offering free tickets to st holders didnt increase volume by that much. Nor did cup tickets at £10.
  32. Well people were stating that with Yogi we have no momentum and because of that people were turning their backs. And the fact numbers have been on the drop for a number of years. That people were choosing to be arm chair fans My point was perhaps with the standard price of games being a minimum of £20 at the cheapest clubs that it was turning fans away. The fans of Man City can get in for a minimum of £26. Just £6 more to watch the best team in the league with the biggest tv deal in world football. I was also making the point that when comparing it to European leagues, lets take the Dutch, their top end teams, the Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV (ie the Old FIrm) can charge LESS than the cheapest teams in the Scottish top flight. Ajax - Feyenoord a massive game, with a lot of fierce fan rivalries I would imagine costs significantly more to put on than ICT - Kilmarnock. Of course, yes, they have many more fans attending games to make up these costs. But at least they're still allowing the fans to afford it with cheap pricing at big rival games. The standard of football and attendance levels in Scotland are akin to Football league 2 if not less. The games there are for between £13-20 and the players don't earn less than our lot, nor do the games cost more to police etc. I can't see them getting vastly more in TV and sponsorship money down at the bottom of the football league either. You want fans, make the prices relate to standard of entertainment.
  33. There are many figures bandied about for prices and yes there are cheap tickets to be had on the continent. Borussia Dortmund, in 2012, had a cheap ticket of just over £12 and their most expensive was over £40. My question is how many of those cheap seats do they sell in relation to the dear ones? There are many other things to consider as well. How much TV revenues do the German and Dutch teams get? I'll bet its a damn sight more than the pittance accepted in Scotland. What about the costs of policing games? The cost of referee's etc. The costs for insurance. Are they cheaper than in Scotland? I don't think there are any teams in Scotland making profit for their shareholders so all revenue is used up in the cost of the game. If we want our teams to be successful then we have to accept the cost that the clubs deem to be the best they can afford to offer. If we don't accept it then do we walk away? Or should we start hitting the broadcasters in the pocket? Trouble is the people who run our game are cowards when it comes to facing up to Sky and BT. Christ! We even paid them back money because Rangers dropped out of SPL. Would the same have happened if Killie or Inverness dropped out? No! Would such a situation arise in EPL? I think not. They would never have agreed to a deal that revolved solely around two of their teams. Scottish football messed up big time in allowing the breakaway Premier League and now the only way teams can survive is to hit the fans in the pocket.

I've heard Ross County's sales are going far better than ours but then that's to be expected given the feeling of Inverness people towards Caley Thistle. BA
