  1. Bring on the positive and discard the negative. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with happy clapping which is a term designed by the inexperienced to imply that those who choose to stay on the positive side of the fence are either old fogies or delusional. It's the difference between the thoughts of a 17 year old as opposed to those of a seventy year old with much life experience who has learnt, almost too late perhaps, that life is short....and you can't go back no matter what. If you waste your time wallowing in doom and gloom and that negative situation and thon negative Manager etc., etc., your chances of moving onward and upward, or inspiring others to face up to and overcome tough odds, fades away. And ultimately there is no stimulation nor enjoyment in it for either you or them. But think--if there was no black to contrast events how would you be able to see the bright shining light? And it's the glimmer of hope that keeps us going isn't it? Not the certainty of death or despair. If that bright light closes down then your life is finished. And as one very intuitive spiritual entity once advised me ..."if you come up against people who don't think the same way as you do then ...move on ". I followed his recommendation and he was right. Sometimes people find themselves in a situation where they really don't know where to turn. Everyone needs support at some time in their life. A word of encouragement here and a little bit of praise there can make all the difference to a person torn between the acts of quitting and/or winning.
  2. I really don't like this "happy clapper" pish! Like it's a bad thing to be supportive of the team you support. Like I'm not supposed to be hopeful of MY team doing well. That I should be ridiculed for trying to be positive when 'the chips are down'?! whats the feckin point of being a FAN, a SUPPORTER if you can't be supportive of your team and the players/management?! The world's a bag o ***** the now anyway, why do I want to come on a forum for my beloved ICT and read or post miserable doom and gloom pish when that's all that's going on everywhere else anyway. feck me, there's some on here that would find criticism if we were currently challenging the tic for the league feckin title!! Angry and pissed off and critical when they play bad-aye! Do I have to be an angry troll all the time-naw! But if yer naw an angry troll you're a happy clapper and this is somehow a bad thing?
  3. The comment about the players focus seems reasonable to me. The rest is public knowledge.
  4. This is just for supporters buses information. If you want to discuss The machinations of CJT start another thread.
  5. You can pick your friends but not your relatives. A fresh start may be just what the lad needs.
  6. Who the hell do you think you are? Some chance this poor lad has with you passing comments like this.
  7. It would be nice to think so but, somehow, I doubt that was the reason for the event being cancelled.
  8. It's not a question of being positive or negative, it's about being objective. There's some on here who seem to think every critical comment is by definition negative. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can be critical and optimistic at the same time. Indeed, it is only by being objectively critical that you can identify things that are holding you back from making positive steps forward. In a footballing sense that applies equally if you are bottom of the table or it you are at the top. It is also just as important to give praise where things are good, and it is that mixture of praise and objective criticism that allows you to progress. I couldn't disagree with this more. Rather than "move on", have a conversation instead. In that way you both may come to understand why you have different viewpoints and will learn something from that. It is a failure to have a dialogue with those of different viewpoints that causes so much polarisation, mistrust and fear in our modern world. Moving on simply reinforces our own views and prejudices which may, with the best will in the world, be shaped because we are simply unaware of the issues which shape someone else's rather different view.
  9. I had my work mobile and when we scored first I phoned my father in law a Celtic supporter, I had just got through when they equalised, phoned again when we scored again and he just laughed at me saying Celtic weren't finished, phoned again when we scored the third goaland he told me to **** off and put the phone down
  10. Lest we ever forget the day the Caley went Feckin Ballistic.
  11. IMO this comment doesn't have quite the nasty tone as your original but I still dont see why you had to bring up something which I'm sure he struggles with.
  12. I expressed no view on the player's character. He has done nothing wrong. I haven't passed any opinion on his father's character. As it stands, he has not been convicted of doing anything wrong. I merely asked the question whether, in such circumstances which are very widely reported into the bargain, the poor man is in a position to focus on his job. I know that, in such circumstances, I would find it difficult to concentrate on mine.
  13. I thought it was a great idea. If I lived in Inverness I'd have gone to the stadium to watch it. Poor show there's not enough interest.
  14. Must be good for the supporters bus to make it back to Inverness around dinner time for a change. All you need now is coffee and bacon rolls in the morning to set you all up for the day.
  15. Wonder if we've already seen his final game for us then... McGowan would be a great signing, Laing I'm not so sure. I was under the impression he was a bit dodgy.
  16. Celtic are not altogether unused to playing in front of banks of empty seats. Notwithstanding whatever official figures they released to the press, Parkhead was often half empty for league matches last season in particular.
  17. Stockley and Storey would walk in. Pawlett wouldn't stay upright long enough.
  18. The fact is, as I said elsewhere, the club made an absolute shambles of JH leaving. They were offered a compensation package for Hughes to leave and become Dundee United manager. They refused it and then agreed a new contract with JH for 2 and a half years. Regardless of engineering exits and all the rest of it, the club let him go 6 months later. Utterly ridiculous scenario. Basically glossed over by everyone as bizarrely most fans wanted him out and that we offered Raven a new contract as soon as Hughes was out the door. How much is real money has that all cost? compensation from united, down the drain. paying him to leave, more money down the drain An absolute travesty when you think of the very small margins the club operates on. i know the club balance the books and take pride in that. I can't help thinking by being a bit less naive we could have a wee bit more than just around breaking even. £500,000 for Christie when you see Coulibaly leaving Killie for near a million. Players leaving Hamilton for in the millions. God knows what will happen if we go down.
  19. Just when the team gets a bit of a spark the doom and gloom merchants appear. Onwards and upwards eh.
  20. Have a look at our injury list after we played Astra, half a team was missing yet JH still got results. I'm not surprised he was pushing for more funds we had lost Shinnie and Watkins and he wanted the momentum he had built to continue, how can you blame someone for having that ambition, I don't buy the line "working your ticket" I don't believe Hughes wanted to leave the club but the board thought they could pull a master stroke and sack Hughes, what a joke that turned out to be. The home display against Astra minus our two best players was the most controlled match I have seen from an ICT team and I've been watching them since Patterson's time, only a goalkeeping mistake and the loss of Watkins cost us that night. We have thrown away his legacy, the team is a shambles, as proven by two points from Partick, Hamilton and Dundee two of those at home. You can soften reality any way you like but the bottom line is this shambles of a season lies at the board's door, not JH's and not RF's. As I've already said, we have thrown away two and a half years of work which was instilled into the team system that gave them an element of control in games even when we had average players/reserves filling the jerseys, what a waste.
  21. For the first time in a very long time we played some good football, Looked like we could score, Attacked in numbers. Lots of positives to take from Yesterday. I hope we keep 2 up top at least for the rest of the season and take the game to whoever we are playing. The one thing i can see us lacking now is a big strong tall central defender. Richie was saying there is still money available for players so i hope he goes on the hunt for a commanding defender who is a free agent
  22. Thought we started well but lost the goals at key moments. Two decent balls into the box which we were unable to defend. Great to see a bit of fight in our boys and got a point, when you could argue we deserved all three. Esson was poor and doesn't inspire any confidence so OFW has to return. Thought our full backs were very good and both put their bodies on line to stop shots etc. I feel Gary Warren has lost half a yard and is being found out of position more than ever before, and on this viewing McCart is very green and not ready for this level yet, and feel we have better options available. Going forward we were very good, with the movement of Mckay and Arnier causing problem, but I question the use of Drapes that far up the park. Feel we have better options to play that role, and Drapes could be far more effective in the holding role. Vigurs is ponderous and his lack of urgency when we were 2-0 down really irked me. in short a good point being 2-0 down, but not seen enough to convince me we will survive. However special mention for the 2 Billy's, they were outstanding today, and Mckay seems even better player than first time around
  23. That was some game!. A terrific effort from the lads and good support from the crowd as well. What a difference Mckay made! But credit Foran for picking a side to play to his strengths. Having Anier and McKay up front with King wide on the right and with Draper playing behind the front two caused Dundee all sorts of problems. All four of them were excellent and put in a fantastic shift. It left acres of space wide on the left which Tremarco exploited very well. He nearly scored when he hit the post early in the first half and had chances later in the game as well. Billy M was superb, but why was he taking the penalties? He has always been rubbish at spot kicks and I'd have any of Tansey, Draper or Vigurs taking the kicks before Billy. It was great to see Tansey score but why oh why does he not provide support to the front men a bit more? How often do we see attacks break down with the ball running loose around the edge of the box and there is nobody there to exploit it. Tansey's goal was a prime example of exactly why he needs to get up the park a bit more. We could have scored a few more, but whilst that attacking performance provides hope for the rest of the season, the defensive performance provides concerns. OFW has not been at his best this season but I'm not sure he deserved to be dropped. Esson's performance was not great and he was unable to command the box. The second goal came from a corner which should never have been conceded. A cross was aimed at the back post but was well short. It should have been an easy, unchallenged take on the 6 yard line but he stayed on the line and left Warren to deal with it. Again we looked pretty fragile in the centre of defence. Clearly it was difficult for young McCart to have been thrown in to this environment and I think that it would be unfair to criticise him. He needs time to settle in and gain a bit of experience. The fact that he was on from the start clearly demonstrates the lack of defensive options we have. There is some serious work to do to make the defence more solid. I predict a 7-3 defeat at Parkhead next week! Finally a word on the referee. He made a few odd decisions but full marks to him for awarding the two penalties. Far too often we see players wrestled to the ground in the box and the referees doing nothing, so it was good to see a referee prepared to take action for once.
  24. A good gutsy performance also a little surprised to be going in at half time 2 goals down but Dundee did have a strong wind assisting them. McCart looks a little green but its his first game, wandered a little out of position and plays the safer short pass, yet still kicks an inch perfect ball over to the line for a throw in when the ball was to be replaced. If he can pick a player or even a spot on the pitch, he will be a real asset on the counter attack with a bit more belief. 2-0 down and did the heads go down? Not at all, whats the difference? maybe, a Foran pep talk or even the fact that the only way of scoring a goal before was a long ball to Doumboya and now we have 2 very capable strikers with an abundance of options for getting the ball up the park. The boys battled hard and fought well Over all a very gutsy performance, with skill, vision and belief coming to the fore. I think I had concerns over survival after Hamilton but if we keep battling for points in every game from now on and we still have to, then were not going down. Mulrainey and Polly need to step up a gear if they want to get into that 1st 11 though. With fresh legs Polly needs to be the first one to the ball and follow through if need be instead of hesitating and backing off, regarding Jakes enthusiasm its a team game so no need to try and take out Ross Draper when going for the ball.
  25. I agree with most of the above. More fight and less predictable. Esson did not inspire confidence early on, but seemed to settle. Full backs generally ok, although Raven did cause concern with that back pass late on. Tremarco could have scored and unlucky to be booked. Warren seemed fine but McCart caused a few nervy moments and had a tough shift. In midfield, Dundee seemed to get a lot of space, but little criticism from me for Tansey or Vigurs. Both were up for it, witness Tansey's delight at scoring. Draper had a good shift including a stint up front when we were looking for the win. King had a good game and arguably our best player on the day. Anier better than last Saturday and great to have Mckay back. Very dangerous and a class above the strikers we have had for some time. Just a pity about the penalty he had saved. There were not two goals of a difference at half time, but as others have said we were slack at the second. It could have been worse, as Dundee missed some decent chances. Had our early effort off the post gone in, I believe we would have kicked on. Good showing in second half, delighted we turned it round as I would have taken a draw at half time, but I'm actually disappointed we didn't get a third. A tough month ahead, and any points in the next three league games may be a bonus, but I'm more hopeful than of late. It was great to hear more positivity and singing from the crowd than at most games this season too. We can still get out of this pickle!
  26. Showed bottle and fight which we wanted to see. The addition on Mckay has added movement and spark up front which has opened up King and Anier to create more - all in those 3 played well today with King covering some amount of ground. All round everyone contributed although I'm not sure mccart is better than Meekings or brad - both I think are better options. Defensively we are still very suspect and with Tremarco being so far forwards it leaves a lot if space behind which teams can exploit which is is a bit of a concern. Also after watching everyone getting stuck in today it's frustrating to see polly and jake come on and not really step up and chase, close down or show the same fight as both king and vigurs that they replaced. We hit the post and missed a pen but equally we had a couple of nervy goal clearances to stop Dundee extending their lead. Much better and a step the right way but hopefully it's not too late. We would have bear Partick last week if we played that way I'm sure and against Hamilton should have parked the bus going there for a 0-0. The 2nd half momentum from today needs to be carried forward along with those players.
  27. Maybe so but why would anyone highlight something so cruel . Would it not be better to focus on the players football skills rather than something he has no control over . IMO it's stooping pretty low .
  28. What a vile nasty comment .Shame on you !!!!
  29. I have a lot of sympathy for Mantis' payoff line about Sky. Wage levels are absurdly high in the EPL and are in turn forcing other clubs to live very dangerously. To be realistic, wage levels across the game are unrealistically high in relation to true market value and performamce levels. Even if you look at a stadium near you, does working productively once a fortnight in front of 3-4000 people and every alternate week to allow another club's players to do the same justify being paid a ballpark £1K a week? And you can possibly extend that question even further when applied to a stadium not quite so near you. Then there's the Highland League where some can get hundreds a week and four figure signing on fees for not being very good, training once or twice a week and playing in front of a few hundred. This is nonsense. DD makes a couple of very interesting points and I am going to have to think long and hard about the proposotion that smaller clubs can't afford decent players in relation to the question - where, then, are these decent players going if the rich clubs are already full of more decent ones? Then there's the question of compensation for having your game televised. Is that not, in effect, what the broadcasters already pay the leagues for through their contract fees?
  30. If you want to make a political point please post in the appropriate forum,....then again, we don't have a forum for bizarre and ridiculous conspiracy theories.
  31. McGowan would be a solid signing but I'm not sure how focused on football he would be able to be with his father currently facing trial for murder.
