Things we learned this evening: 1) Celtic are miles better than anything we've seen in Scottish football for a long time. Didn't need to get out of 2nd gear. 2) as hard as this is to say, the presence of Gary Warren significantly weakens our defence. In the interests of the team and results he should be dropped for Saturday. 3) Brad Mckay can't play left back. I know that celtic were getting joy down the left early on but they weren't getting in behind or creating anything clear cut. Switching him and Raven didn't work and it should have been left as it was. Raven on the left and Brad on the right was the least worst option. 4) we have no pace if Mulraney doesn't play. 5) OFW is the streakiest keeper we've had. 6) tonight means nothing and was never going to. We need to pick up points from the rest starting this Saturday at Firhill.

The absolute state of this. The fact he was overall a successful manager (that I do believe) does not mean that poor management, bullying and ostracisation of certain players cannot be criticised. Perhaps if Yogi's man-management style had been better, especially with the board and the players, he'd still be in the job.

I am finding it difficult to vote on this one. There was a good joke tonight though, Liam Polworth was MotM at the ground. Only thing that would have topped that would have been OFW winning that accolade. Embarrassing stuff.

i feel like the performance tonight shows exactly why were are where we are. Granted it is a cracking celtic side but the indecision in our team tonight was almost comical. Nobody wanted the ball they just wanted to get rid of it. Worst i have seen us in a while

Absolutely shocking that a manager of a team is, or rather was in the case of Hughes, having his management style analysed by supporters.

Tonight's result is a bit of a sickener for us. In fact since we got that long awaited win on Friday, Killie unexpectedly won at St J, Partick unexpectedly beat Hearts and now high flying Aberdeen lose to bottom side Hamilton (again). We clearly can't rely on anyone else doing us any favours, just got to get more wins for ourselves.

First 43 minutes we went toe to toe with a better team and didn't look like a result was beyond us for the 1st 1/2 hour of that. Lost one goal to a great individual strike, lost another and all our confidence to a classic defensive clusterduck, and then went to pieces. I've seen a lot worse, tbh. The only thing I'm glum about is results elsewhere which have piled on more of the sticky stuff. It's snorkel time.

Poor display, but not unexpected, it's the manner of the defeat and the soft goals conceded that frustrates fans. Any team in the league would have taken advantage of the defensive errors tonight. Important to remember it could be worse you could be a celtic fan, their season is over they will win the league easily and it would be a shock if they don't win the cup. We have everything to play for our season could got to the last game. We live for the odd highlight beating the old firm, a good cup run, an away win. Celtic know they are going to win with minimal effort every week. Minor point but was disappointed to see our ball boys wearing celtic tops and scarves tonight. It's not over yet, all to play for , important thing is we are not detached at the bottom and our survival is in our own hands. Hopefully lessons learned and the team move onwards and upwards

So where does this leave your earlier statement that if Caley Thistle didn't get 3 points from their next three games (Hearts + OF) then relegation was certain? After the Rangers game saw that target overtaken, I asked you "That's now four points from the first two of them, so does the converse apply? Does this now mean equally definite safety?"... to which you replied "Are you fick or wot ? Of course it is the converse and sets us up fer Cellic." Don't think we've done too badly once you take the keeper mistakes out of it. Our issue is the chronic lack of pace which means that when we win the ball back we're unable to break and capitalise.

Is there not something a bit strange here? As I write we are less than three hours away from a game against the Premiership Champions which the team unfortunately goes into back at the bottom of the table. But since midnight last night all that has gone up on the Caley Thistle section of this forum is a single, nine word post referring to the reason for ICT being back bottom - plus no fewer than TEN posts on this thread where people are squabbling about a former Caley Thistle manager who is now in charge of a struggling lower league club.

Will we never get closure on this now, quite tiresome, JH saga? I honestly don't think there are many posters on here who do not recognise what JH achieved with us. Certainly those heady days at Hampden, particularly the Scottish Cup win, and the dabble into Europe, will live long in our memories. It is just a pity that the memories are tarnished by the manner of JH's leaving the club. Whatever the absolute truth of the matter, many of us think that JH engineered his way out of ICT, at great expense to the club, after only months previously, signing a contract extension, at which time, I for one, am convinced the ongoing budget details for the club would have been made clear to him. Anyway, we now are where we are, and it is time to move on. We have a hard enough job on our hands for the rest of the season without continually harping back to JH.

Raith had a trialist in goals for their development match last week. Am I right in thinking trialists are allowed to play in the bottom 3 divisions? I read a quote from Hughes saying Ryan Stevenson would have done just as good as an under 21 keeper anyway so he didn't see the point

I know. Maybe this forum should be closed down to prevent any such disgraceful and disloyal behaviour in the future. Alternatively such analysis could be dismissed by loud and persistent cries of 'False News !'.

Last season we had the match with Hearts postponed because they couldn't name fit goalkeeper/s in their squad. Yogi went apoplectic over that and was instrumental in having the rule changed and removing that requirement....whilst maintaining and encouraging better use of the emergency keeper loan system. To now fall foul* of that rule change does somewhat highlight the whole "be careful what you wish for" anecdote. His attempts to ridicule the SPFL Board are also a bit bizarre when you take into consideration the fact that the Raith Rovers Chairman is a member of it!! *I use the term "fall foul" very loosely as the outcome of having no keeper for the game was one entirely of their own making.

There is a happy medium. If we play our strongest team and are fully committed there is no reason why we can't take our second point of the season against Celtic and that point could prove crucial come the end of the season.

Tell us, who was it that was trying to get rid of players like Raven and Tremarco? Who was it that didn't offer Brill a new deal? Which manager wasn't giving Nick Ross game time and forced him into seeking it elsewhere? Since you are so up to speed on all things John Hughes.....tell us, how many players did he sign, how many appearances (on average) did these players make and how many are still at the club? Value for money? When the manager needed support (due to injuries etc) the board backed him to such an extent he had the largest squad and largest budget of any manager at ICTFC. Despite that he failed to do what he said he could/would and you think he should have been given even more? Feel free to add me to the list of people who think you're delusional.

Alan.... for several years now, ICT has had two basic sources of income and relies on them BOTH to maintain its ongoing business (ie keep its head above water) - 1) regular earnings like league gate receipts, TV money and SPFL dividends and 2) Windfalls. These include the likes of transfer fees, cup runs (not, as Don says, Europe though), an exceptionally high league placing, one-off investments and even on one occasion selling the club's last significant tangible asset, the Social Club. Unfortunately there has been this misapprehension that any time one of these windfalls comes along, the purse strings can suddenly be loosened and the club can start splashing out on extra players. It doesn't work that way. All the things I mentioned in category 2 are part and parcel of basic operations and if there's a period when they DON'T happen then I would imagine that a bit of financial concern materialises. For instance I have always understood the sale of the Social Club to have been made to fill such a gap. As a result, it's a non-starter to suggest "pushing the boat out". There is no boat there! What you said about ambition was "if the board had matched (Yogi's) ambition.... I believe we'd have been pushing for Europe". That cannot be construed as anything other than an implication that the Board's ambition is inadequate or lacking. It also, however, implies that Yogi's expectation of how much money should be available was the realistic one and the Board were in some respect falling short in some way. It could instead be argued that Yogi did fine with Butcher's team but when it came to having to sign his own players, he was unable to do this in as financially efficient a manner as his predecessors.

JH was the author of his own downfall at ICT. Managers will invariably push their chairmen for more money but that should have been kept in house. The moment he went bleating to his friends in the media he was acting entirely in his own interests and against those of the club. Richie has obvious shortfalls in his ability as a coach, at least for now, but there is no doubting that he has more class in that respect than Yogi.

Nor should he show any bitterness towards ICT. He was more than happy to sign a 2 year contract extension with us. I cannot for a minute believe that at the time of signing he did not know what the likely budget was going to be. Yet within a very short while he is complaining openly about it, and I for one believe, deliberately engineering his exit , at great financial cost to the club. This I believe led to us making the risky, possibly 'cheap option', of promoting Foran, which many folk will now see as a mistake, and who knows what longer term financial problems lie in store, especially if we go down.

Happy clappy superfans or supporters who recognised his achievements in a 2 1/2 year period. League Cup finalists... Scottish Cup Winners.. European Football .. Highest placed league finished (3rd).. Manager of the year .. Football Writers Manage of the Year. Obviously still not enough to gain the respect of many on here, who would sooner focus and analyse his management style.

Fair play to yogi if the board had matched his ambition ie push the boat out for storey i believe wed have been pushing for europe rather than a relegation scrap true saying u only realized what u had when its gone

Hear Hear, glad you read things the way I do, I will add to that, that the board had already set their minds on Richie as J H;s successor and took the opportunity to make things difficult for the man, they played on the fact that a proportion of the 'support' saw John's style as being negative football, to some extent it was but John was looking to build on that and was frustrated that he couldn't get the money to 'keep the players he had earmarked for the Club's future success. Remember the Club's success would be his success so no wonder he spoke out when he realised this was slipping away through lack of the board's backing. Any manager worth his salt would decry anyone who would deliberately try to thwart his ambition. John also knew from the outset of his stay with us that Richie was the manager incumbent and said so on numerous occasions. He knew too that he was fighting a losing battle to better his career at the Cluib and that I believe is why we lost our most successful ever manager. Now Richie is in post and I have backed him from the start, He can still keep us up he may even close us in on top six, regardless of some of the opinions on here. I hope so anyway for the Club's sake. Today's point is so important it is a first step to confidence enhancement. Small steps can lead to a very long jump.

" Old Caley Girl do you think that Stein, Ferguson McLean never put pressure on players, some respond to it and some wilt and leave. As a Manager I had inherited some real slackers whom I kept the pressure on because they were short changing their colleagues who worked their tail off. The slackers either changed their attitude or shipped out. This is not bullying, it is being fair to those employees who are giving their all for their wages, whilst all should be treated fairly, there is nothing wrong in letting slackers know their card is marked if they don't shape up. The players under Stein used to say he blanked them when they were on the treatment table because they were of no use to him whilst injured. Ferguson made life uncomfortable for those who set a bad example to the younger players or who tried to undermine his leadership or were part of the drinking culture and that's the way it has to be. The accusation of bullying has been taken to extremes in this day and age, people run off crying to anyone who will listen if they feel they have been snubbed for perhaps quite legitimate reasons.

Of course it was the converse - it was season saving and it meant that we had confidence going in to the Cellic game and any type of result would be a huge, huge bonus.
