We've been top 6 for 2 seasons in a row, have kept the squad intact with the younger players improving all the time, and the calibre of our opponents is weaker than ever. If we aren't top 6 again, we most definitely have the wrong manager in place.

What if Mckay gets injured? What if we ever need to chase the game and get another man up-front? What about having a two man attack Plan B? Or are we just going to carry on playing one way regardless of whether it works or not?

What irritates me are these self-righteous types who seem to think that if you make any criticisms or have any opinions that are not from the "everything is great" handbook, you're not a real supporter. Airing your worries and criticisms is perfectly healthy and to be encouraged. I think as well, when a realist/negative nancy does say something positive it carries a bit more weight and is praise that is deserved. When a happy clapper gives it yet again in a kaleidoscope of colours, smiles and sunshine - it means nothing.

There is nothing to indicate this was written tongue in cheek so I will bite and take it at face value as I think this illustrates why we are never going to agree on whether posts are positive and negative. SP starts with a quite extraordinary statement which begs the question of why anyone would consider favouring either positive or negative posts in the first place. Surely reasonable folk would favour objective posts - whether you then perceive those posts as positive or negative is a matter for your your own perspective and expectations. SP goes on to refer to himself as amongst the "standard balanced folks" but he seems pretty firmly in the "happy clapper" camp to me. SP finishes by saying "The old saying ''Oh,wid the guid lord the gift tae gie us tae see oorselves as ithers see us"springs to mind as something the non-happy clappers and negative criticisers could ponder over". Note that he doesn't see those sharing his own happy clapper views having a need to see themselves as others do as presumably their views are unquestionably the only views that have any validity. The truth is that it behoves us all to reflect on how others see us and to respect the views of others. To me the issue is not about positive versus negative posts, it is about the intolerance of some towards those who offer objective comment on aspects of this football club. Far too often when the comments are critical, the happy clappers condemn them as "negative" yet rarely offer any objective argument to counter the points made. There are many folk who are no longer posting their views or who feel intimidated to post any views in the first place because of the way any critical posts are responded to. Interestingly, it seems to me that those who are often branded as negative are the first to acknowledge improvements. Renegade makes an excellent post relating to this. Whilst not agreeing with the OP, he raises an important point in questioning whether critical postings on this website have a negative impact on the players and the potential support. As far as the players are concerned I would expect that objective criticism will always be welcomed by players with any ambition to succeed. The players will know when criticism, however well meant, is misguided and they'll not worry about that in the slightest. But where they can recognise that objective criticism has some validity to it, any professional worth their salt will use it to motivate them to respond positiively. As far as the fans are concerned, surely honesty is the best policy - tell them the product is better than it is and they'll feel cheated and won't come back There is nothing so negative as an intolerance to an honest exchange and debate of sincerely held views regarding concerns that fans may have. I wish that what we were seeing on the park was such that everyone was saying it's brilliant to watch - but it isn't. If you don't like what you're seeing then why pretend that you do? I doubt that there are any fans who don't hope that the faith Caley D has in the development of Yogi's plans is justified, but I think it is perfectly reasonable for folk to raise concerns based on what was undeniably a season of two halves last year. Let's end this positive v negative nonsense and have a bit of respect for other folks views and concerns and debate the points raised in an objective and respectful way. That is the kind of positivity I would like to see.

Paddy McCourt is awful. Signing guys who can play in a load of different positions like Horner does make sense, it's good to have players like that when our squad is small. Proctor used to be good for that role.

Ryan Christie is just one option to support Billy. If more Inverness people supported the club we might be in a better position to find a new striker to join the club. Billy and Ryan and the other options we have actually give us a strong starting position. Let us be very positive going to Hamilton.

Ridiculous they've been allowed to make this change with a little over two weeks before the game is played. Fans will have seen the first fixture move and assumed it was now safe to buy travel tickets, sort out accommodation etc and then they go and move the match again. I suspect that this is due to Celtic getting papped out of the CL but if this was a risk (and it clearly was an obvious one) why move the game forward to Saturday lunchtime when that risk still exists that it would need to be moved again? They should have stuck it down for Sunday and left it at that. That way no matter what happened to Celtic in the CL fans could have made their plans safe in the knowledge the fixture wouldn't be changed again. Another fuck up from the SPFL.

We have a quality and hard-working squad. Top six should be a minimum. Any less than that should fall at the manager's door.

Point to make that was when he was still scoring for fun and not just scoring every few games plus then his contract still had a year and a half left now it is less than a year, so his valuation should go down quite a bit.

Kenny Cameron has stated that he will only be sold for an exceptional offer and it is business as usual. If the usual business is not scoring too often with new style of play etc, I say sell him. He is likely to be off next season for free anyway..

With a settled team of good players that have finished top six in the last two seasons (and only narrowly missed the season before), anything less than top six is a step backwards. It would be accepting mediocrity and being satisfied with a team playing well below their capability. If Terry Butcher's highly limited tactical knowledge can do it with this squad, then what would a bottom half finish say about the current...?

You just described Ryan Christie. Unknowingly I had just described Ryan, I do think however that this would be the sort of striking addition that Yogi would want to make to the squad. I don't think it augers well for the season if we are almost entirely reliant on having Billy fit, in form, and most importantly still at the club! I can see how some might think that having the likes of Vincent, Doran, Watkins and Foran in the squad may cancel out the need for another striker but for me not one of them would be a viable option to cover any long term injury or spell where Billy wasn't producing up front. I don't buy this view that a manager doesn't want buy a player just to sit on the bench. Countless thousands of players are signed with the proviso that they are being signed on the intention of being cover or at the very least taking on the challenge of displacing the favoured striker. Most SPL clubs have 4 strikers in the first team and there's no way all of them will start of the time so they must be willing to take their share on bench time. We have one senior striker at the club going into the new season which worries me, im quite amazed that that this hasn't been addressed yet (I still have a sense/hope/dream that Yogi will sign a couple of strikers to offer cover) unless Yogi's sole intention for this club is to play for 0-0 draws.

I very much doubt the gaffer or players spend much or any time on this forum and read it. Most managers try to avoid media as so they are not overly swayed by all the drivel. It would turn most mad. Also, go on any forum and you'll see plenty happy clapper, negative nancy and Mr balanced and thorough. It's nothing unique to CTO. All in all a pointless thread and if anything should be closed it's this. Not that I would encourage a totalitarian approach to thread monitoring.

The debate only served to strengthen my view that the No Camp have nothing other than a half baked argument on the pound with which to base their case. Unfortunately, Salmond missed the opportunity to bury that argument by sticking to a few simple facts and seemed more interested in trying to discredit Darling instead. In fact, both men were very guilty of attacking the other instead of the points they were trying to make....and neither did anything which I could imagine would win the undecided vote.

We'd be lucky to get half of what May is going for. We are still perceived as a wee team and as a result our players are undervalued. Look at Robertson going to Hull for near £3m... I think we'd deal on Shinnie for 10% of that, even though Shinnie isn't '10% the player Robertson is'.

Actually what we're needing Mahonio is not a second striker, but a taller stronger character than Mckay. Can't get my head around signing this guy at all really.

I also think we're in for a long hard and boring season. We don't look like scoring, the whole point of football. We knock it about back and forth around the defence and midfield keeping the ball nicely but just never look like hurting anyone. You need really creative dynamic centre midfielders, plus width for this style of football to work. We seem to play really narrow now and creative wise we have Greg Tansey. I also don't think we're getting anywhere near the best from Doran, Vincent, and most importantly Christie, who really could be a talent if played correctly. Even Draper we're not getting the best from, hes a combative midfielder and we're asking him to take the ball and be creative and for me he's not that sort of player. Mckay has basically been anonymous since Christmas. Also after the first round of games all teams will well and truly have seen we play one way and that's it, we have few alternatives other than the league cup final tactics of defend defend defend. I gave Yogi the benefit of doubt last season as he hadn't had a chance to sort out what players he wanted to stay and what he wanted to bring in. I honestly thought he would have brought in maybe 2 or 3 of his own signings to help the brand of football he wants to play. But he hasn't and if he doesn't I really do fear we may be in all sorts of trouble this season.
