Had he been off talking to a St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Motherwell or something then you might have a point. However, for me, this has been far from unsettling, the total opposite in fact. We've just had our Manager get an offer from a club who could offer him many times the salary he could ever get here and a player budget that could fund half the SPL. I don't know of any Manager who wouldn't have had their head turned by such an offer. Despite all that he chose ICT!!! We've just had more publicity than money could buy and the message at the end of it is....ICT don't have much, but they must be something really special if a man like Terry Butcher would rather be there on less money and with a smaller budget. Terry has just done more in two days to help shake of the "small town backwater" tag that is often applied to us than anything else that has happened in the last 19 years. The message he has just given the players is exactly the same...."lads, it's ok to look but its not all about the money, there's things to be earned here that money cannot buy".10 points

Its them trying to do something without really doing anything. The stupid split thing seems to be so they can have 4 Old Firm games again even though anything would be an improvement on the 0 they get at the moment. The pyramid system would be too much hard work for them to do so they won't bother. Plus its all about self preservation. Its baffling when you consider that the fans have said on countless occasions thta they want a bigger league. This structure has been tried in other countries and has not lasted. On the plus side Sevco have said that if it goes ahead then they want out of Scottish Football so I suppose there may be one bonus.4 points

That Pep chap, you know - ex Barcelona is looking for work. He's fond of a team in red and blue stripes.4 points

Absolute bo**ocks. He conducted himself like a gentleman. The message he's sent out is that anyone, having been given proper permission by the club, has a right to listen to what potential suitors have to offer. It's no surprise to me that he prefers the Sutors that he can probably see from the upstairs windows than the other kind and good on the man. If I were a player, this is the sort of manager I'd dream of playing for, someone I'd want to work my guts out for. Someone who shows, and expects loyalty but isn't going to stand in the way of a player's progress if things are done by the book. We're lucky (but deserve) to have him. I wonder if Rooney's reading this.3 points

What a masterful stroke of managerial brilliance. TB has demonstrated his own loyalty, and has ignored the dollars caption on his flight control system. What self-respecting ICT player contemplating a contract offer could ignore that inspired piece of leadership?3 points

That Terry has turned down what will be the biggest job offered to an incumbent ICT manager, to reamain at the club shows just how far we have come and also how nuch belief he has in his team, make no mistake this is his team. I have no doubt that Terry will move on but until then he's ours and I'll continue to feel all warm and fluffy.3 points

My first choice would be renegotiating Terry's & Mo's contracts with bonuses in the hope of them leading us in Europe next season.3 points

He was entitled to listen to what they had to say. In case you missed it, he turned them down ffs. I'm sure he will be off one day, it happens. People are also entitled to be happy with the result. He is our boss and he has taken us to where we are today, even if it did hurt a few at the time, so why not celebrate the fact that he listened, he pondered and he still preferred to stay with us, is that not enough for you.2 points

hi all, Thanks for making me welcome here, you seem a great bunch and obviously on an high at the moment with your team. A bit disappointed we missed out on butch but not really a surprise, our board should really have assessed the situation better. Like TB said in the interview with Radio sheffield, had you been in mid table things may have been diffferent. But he really would have been giving a lot up. Saying that had you been in mid table its debatable if we would have contacted him. Will defo keep an eye on your progress from now on and wish you all the success possible. I guess TB's dog can breath easy tonight :D2 points

Not so many fears on that front since the "hands off" notice was included in the official announcement..... "He met ICT chairman Kenny Cameron and indicated that he was committed to seeing out his contract with the club."2 points

Think you're being a bit harsh on Terry there. He conducted himself professionally, spoke to them for the right reasons, decided to stay for the right reasons, and set an example to the players that you can turn down a massive pay rise to stay at a club that has something special about it.2 points

Statement from Caley Jags Together on "Offensive Singing" http://ictsupporterstrust.co.uk/news/19-press-releases/259-offensive-singing-statement Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC issued a statement to fans via their website on 28th December 2012 regarding “Offensive Singing” at the Highland Derby. This statement contained advice from the Police and Procurator Fiscals Office warning that “singing or chants which could be deemed offensive to groups or communities such as travellers are deemed an offence under the law in Scotland and therefore anyone caught singing them is liable to criminal prosecution” In response to a request from fans, as well as our own concerns about the way legislation is being attached to this matter, the Caley Jags Together board have decided to seek legal advice which will be followed by a request for an urgent meeting with Northern Constabulary and the club to establish what is acceptable to sing or chant at football matches between Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and Ross County FC, and to make the fan’s views about this known. Caley Jags Together will update all fans as soon as possible on this subject, hopefully before the next meeting between the two sides.2 points

[anorak on] Just an observation that this topic is onto 15 pages so far, and when the talks resume tomorrow I'm pretty sure it will soon overtake the record of 20 pages for a football thread on this site. That was for the saga of Niculae's departure back in 2008. 2nd place with 18 pages is one in January 2009 about who would be shortlisted to replace Brewster. [anorak off]2 points

Fair play to Reef for unearthing the johnny come latelys amongst our support. I find it quite sickening that the very same johnny come latelys are the ones that are the most vocal on merger debates yet they rarely or never attended football at Telford Street or Kingsmills pre-merger. One things for certain there are a fair number of guilty consciences evident on this thread. I'd even go as far as saying I don't particularly trust a section of the older ICT support, judging by the underhand revelations that allegedly went on back then. On a parting note I know very little about track and field but maybe I'll start writing a book about athletics. Dougal2 points

I have long held the opinion that Terry holds some things in life more important than money. I believe the pace and way of life up here suits terry down to the ground...and he cherrishes that.1 point

32,620 views and counting, that must be a 1st surely too. The last couple of days have been great publicity for ICT and Scottish football. Im really pleased that Terry and his team are staying as for scouting for players, 1st class. Terry has shown that its not all about money, not only has he shown faith in his players but has shown faith in himself and his management team. I hope that this is a lesson for any players thinking of leaving, go and sign a contract, have faith in yourself, invest in yourself, your team mates and reap the rewards that you sow.1 point

I think more people should have listened to me when I told them he was staying. Especially Caley D.1 point

They got Hayes no problem . Shinnie IMO is a better player and prospect than Hayes. That's not saying that I wouldn't like Jonny to still be in the ICT team, but Shinnie can go onto better things in football.1 point

Yes you are quite right Luke. I thought this thread had run its course over the festive break until it suddenly burst forth again yesterday with this latest attempt to reinvent the wheel - which the inventor insists is square!1 point

So the from the above summation (sorry cant access 'the sun' article at work) - Barnsley have publically come out and said they desperately want TB, but he is at best a 2nd choice option. Great PR there by the club and board if thats the case.1 point
-
Technically we know he has gone to Barnsley....it's just that he won't be staying there beyond tomorrow.1 point

Seems like the real issue here is not so much the numbers of so-called refuseniks, but the far higher numbers of people who are completely indifferent to ICT, those who don't care either way about the club. Whatever spin is put on the attendances, it is rare to find in any footballing city such as Inverness such a high proportion of the population who could not give a toss for its football club.1 point
-
They had to go by train ... the bus was full of a vast majority of refuseniks !1 point
