  1. Back on topic I was talking about this subject with some folk on saturday. I think when the merger was taking place it was hoped that the club would go on to bigger heights over the years but imo this season has been something else. To be one of the top teams in Scotland consistantly for months was I think beyond our wildest dreams 20 years ago. I personally am very proud of where we have got too and rather than merger topics decending as usual into a slanging match can we not, for a change, celebrate the present and also celebrate our history (from both clubs)! My childhood memories are of HL (which was great btw) but my boys memories will consist of SPL matches and maybe just maybe a European dream realised.

  2. Really Dougal? Ross County 4343 Inverness CT 4038 St Johnstone 3640 Can I add that County have had Celtic at home once more than us and for years they have for whatever reason inflated their attendances. I do agree our attendance is poor but make sure you get your facts right first. As for the merger, I don't really care anymore. There are still people living in the past who need to move on. If they can't then feel free to move to Dingwall.

  3. FFS, are we still discussing GMS not being signed even though its well documented why - There are probably 100's of players we 'could' have signed, if they had lower wage demands, we had higher budgets, they didn't have injury issues, would relocate to the Highlands - but we have the squad we have and perhaps they should be shown a bit more credit for what they have achieved this year. Any chance the fans might actually look to the future instead of always dewelling on the past?

  4. I read this as an article celebrating 20 years since inception. 20 years since a few people had the foresight to realise that an Inverness team could do what many other teams have failed to do even though they've been established for a hell of a lot longer. What I cant see is any reason why anyone would need to apologise for success.

  5. This season has been a dream come true tbh. At the start of the season we had no clue where we would finish, presumably down the bottom of the table, and we are sitting in 3rd position in Scotland's highest league. Top Six is what we've been aiming for since we were promoted back in 2004 and this season we have achieved that. With the budget we've got to be in Top Six let alone third is a massive achievement for this club, and now we can still get Europe! As much as I would like to be in Europe, if we don't get in, then we mustn't forget this great season, full of new records and great players. Andy Shinnie has done wonders for this club IMO. He became our first full caped Scotland player whilst at the club, he was in the SPL Team of the Year, and was among the PFA Player of the Year nominees. He is a great player and I hope he gets a good amount of games at BCFC. Billy McKay too has scored 23 SPL goals this season and I think that is the highest amount a Caley Thistle player has scored in the SPL. We made it to the League Cup Semi Final for the first time after winning 3-0 at Ibrox. We beat Celtic at Parkhead for the first time in the league 1-0 and of course making the Top Six for the first time, with maybe Europe as a bonus. We have to give tons of credit to Steve Marsella tho, for all the work he did, to find all these players that have turned into legends at the club, we got them all for free aswell I think so that's amazing. Last but not least, we have to give mountains of credit to Terry and Mo. To bring all the players together and have this wonderful season is just incredible. If County get Europe I will be gutted and heartbroken, same with StJ (more over County tho) but I think we can do it and finish of this amazing season but securing a Euro spot. Remember guys, whatever happens on Sunday will be and no matter what, this has been the greatest ever season in only 18 years of Inverness Caledonian Thistle :D

  6. Well those of you who followed Caley or Thistle in the heady pre-merger days - would you ever have dared to dream that you would - one day - be standing in the away end at Dingwall, on the last day of the season, in the top division of Scottish football, with the prospect of European competion football the reward ? I suppose my only regret is that it is'nt Borough Briggs !!

  11. Fair do's. Motherwell have been good this season. Let's hope McCall and his team win something on Sunday as well.

  12. I think you'll find the word "scum" fits in better with the rhythm of the tune. But should a song not be about what is good about Doran and not one that has a pop at our rivals? How about Aaron, Hair on his chest, He may be small, but Doran's the best!

  13. Is that the same players who chose not to acknowledge the support before going up the tunnel. I'm surprised there has not been more comment on this. Maybe it was because there were so few of us left in the ground to witness it but frankly I was astonished at how many people left. OK, so we lost a match we should have won but the players gave it their all and after the game we were still in 3rd place with just one game to go! It was the last home game for some of the guys who are leaving and who have contributed so much to the club and it is reasonable to think that the vast majority would stay behind to acknowledge that. When Utd's 2nd goal went in there was a mass exodus - it was as though we needed a win to avoid relegation and the goal was the final nail in the coffin. Just unbelievable. Is it any wonder the players left the field in such a dejected manner. Football is a game of tiny margins and had one little thing gone our way and we had ended up winning rather than losing then it would no doubt have been joy unreserved and not a soul would have left. That would have been great, but whether we won or lost, in the grand scale of things it makes little difference to what has been achieved this season. If some players were wondering whether or not to sign new contracts I guess Saturday's mass exodus will have made their minds up for them. I can only hope that after the low of Saturday and the disrespect shown to them by at least 90% of the crowd, the players will be able to pick themselves up and demonstrate the same level of commitment on Sunday. And win, lose or draw and regardless of what happens in Perth, I really hope that the fans all stay behind on Sunday and acknowledge the team for what has been a magnificent achievement in attaining the best league position ever by a Highland team. Clinching a European place would be the icing on the cake but not clinching it will not represent failure. The players and officials have done a great job this year, now it is time for the supporters to stand up and be counted and show the team and the club some real support and loyalty.

  15. Rory Fallon might be worth a look. Would certainly offer something a bit different to McKay up front. Wasn't overly impressed with him when he came to Inverness for the U20 game last week. Supposedly, we have interest in ex celtic goalkeeper Robbie Thomson. Who by the way, played against us in the League Cup earlier this season for Stenhousemuir. From what I remember he was rather good that night as well.

  17. Well...it has to be said...that yes...this will have been our best season ever in terms of league placings. BUT.....you would have to say that if we miss out on Europe, it does take the shine of the achievment, as European football was there for the taking. Only have ourselves to blame if we fail

  19. Look folks, maybe it's not a great idea to allow celebration of ICT's meteoric success and the 20th anniversary of the conception of that club to be sidetracked by the likes of Doogie. The first four posts were absolutely great, but since then, Inverness's answer to the Flat Earth Society has unfortunately become able to sidetrack this thread. Don't rise to it!

  20. Remember bdu98196, this is Dougal we are talking about. He doesn't live in the here-and-now, only in the past. And on the subject of GMS, he obviously thinks we only trial one player a decade and flipped the coin wrong when it came to the "yes/no" choice. What a dingbat. But all the more humorous for it.

  21. If we are lucky enough to get over the line next week you can be sure Dougal will see the negative side of it.
