  1. The correct proninciation of Paris is "Paree" but if you go round saying that, people just think you are a pretentious knob.

  2. Lonsana Doumbouya - The Christian name is easy enough but I've mostly heard his surname pronounced by fans as 'Doom-Boy-Ah'. Now granted, it looks a bit like that to an English speaker, but I watched his game for Guinea on YouTube a few weeks back and it had French commentary. They pronounced his name 'Doom-Boo-Ya' which does sound more French. Owain Fôn Williams - Now this is one that no-one seems to get it right at all. First of all I've heard some fans referring to him simply as 'Williams'. This is wrong and would be akin to calling someone with the surname MacDonald as 'Donald'. His first name is not pronounced like Owen or 'Oh-Wayne' as some seem to think. It is in-fact 'Oh-Ine' (Ine sounding like wine with the W taken away). His surname is also not pronounced 'fon', it is in-fact pronounced as 'Vorn'. I've also been told by a Welsh speaker that the Williams is not pronounced as it would be for a non-Welsh person, as in Welsh you actually acknowledge the A, meaning 'Will-Ee-Ams' is how to say it. Altogether, the correct pronounciation is 'Oh-Ine Vorn Will-Ee-Ams'. I expect these to be pronounced correctly by all fans from now on.

  3. As the thread title suggests. Who's the fan you most admire for their unwavering support of our club in 2016? My vote goes to RiG.

  4. Surely got to be RiG. Don't think he's missed a game home or away this season.

  5. Can someone point me to the SFA edict which states that when players are up against Lonsana Doumbouya they are allowed to pull his shirt, physically grab any part of his anatomy, push him in the back with both hands, put their hands on his shoulders when jumping for the ball, block him of with their elbows, kick him and trip him up? It happens week in and week out and referees simply ignore it. There are times when the poor lad looks quite bemused as to why he is not being awarded a foul.

  6. DD-well we do actually have a poster on here named Buckett. It's just that we haven't heard from him in a good while.......... ? Pity.

  7. Hamilton are a poorer team than St Johnstone, but that was still a big improvement on last week. Vigurs played ahead of Draper in an advanced midfield role and looked more effective than he has in weeks, and the defence looked stronger and quicker to cover with McKay in there and Meekings restored to his rightful position. We also created far more chances this week, and were a bit unlucky not to take a couple more of them. Good to see Cole score, as last week and, until scoring yesterday, he showed flashes of skill but hadn't really posed much threat. Hopefully the goal will give him confidence to push on. Normally I'd say OFW should have done better with the goal, but given the back problem he was playing through, he probably gets a pass for that. Don't think the game was quite as one-sided as some people are making out though: it was fairly even up until Hamilton scored, after which we started to dominate; the first 20-25 mins of the second half we were clearly the better team too, but Hamilton came right back into it in the closing stages and looked quite threatening. Probably a quite decent game overall, although I rarely really think about that as I mentally pinball between hope, fear and frustration over the 90 mins.

  10. I think the error here is to assume there is actually a correct way of saying any name. Just as people in different parts of Scotland pronounce things differently depending where they are from, so do people in Wales. It is not always simply the distinctive accents, but which syllable you emphasise. An example of that would be the name Lamont and, of course, with regard to place names, Balloch is pronounced up here very differently to the Balloch close to Glasgow. Surely the thing is to respect the way the owner of the name pronounces it and do the best you can within your normal accent to follow that. An exception to that general rule of courtesy would be if you were ever to meet a real life Hyacinth Bucket. Perhaps we should get Dean Brill back

  11. It's actually perfectly correct to call OFW "Mr Williams" and technically the Fon should be attached as part of the forename "Owain Fon". It's through choice that Fon Williams is used on his shirt etc. Fon means Origin or Source....but not Son Of, which is a common mistake. Unless you have a Welsh accent, then pronunciation of Owain is O Wain and not Oh Ine or Oh Wine (as OTJ pronounced his). Not a problem after this week as he is now known as Lazarus.

  12. My scores: OFW: 4- didn't havevall that much to do other than field a lame near-post free kick. Such is the lot of a goalkeeper! Points for turning out at all, with back spasms! Brad Mckay: 7 - very solid - and still carrying a knock. Jake Mulraney: 7 - flashes of brilliance intersprsed with quiet spells. A crucial hand in the goal, which is what the game is about! Carl Tremarco: 7 - great going forward and in defence. One worry is a tendency for defensive headers back across goal. Josh Meekings: 6 - not yet at his best, with some poor passing, but soldiered on after a heavy knock Iain Vigurs: 6 - better in an advanced position, but wasted free kicks. Greg Tansey: 6 - better, but still erratic with his distribution. Ross Draper: 8 - so, so,so much better in that position. Captained the side well and kept Crawford quiet. Silly booking and missed a sitter in the first half. Lewis Horner: 5 - OK going forward, but defensively suspect. Doumbaya: 7 - really led the line well and held the ball up. Fouled throughout without any protection from the ref. Cole: 8 - was a problem for Hamilton throughout. Pacey. Took his goal really well. Ref: 1 - indefensible Foran: 8 - should get credit for motivating a deflated and depleted team. Also made the right decision by switching Draper and Vigurs. Stick with it, Richie - the alternative has cost us dearly.

  14. Referee was absolutely shocking, worst for many a long time. Should of grabbed the 3 pts but the bit of luck we needed wasn't there. Bit more positive though.

  21. Going by that youtube video Hooper looks absolutely rank rotten if I'm honest. Would be delighted to be proved wrong if we do sign him but seen nothing in that to say that he even deserves a trial with us.

  22. For those not able to be there, a much better showing and I found the game enjoyable and entertaining. We could, and perhaps should, have won, with a clear penalty denied and a few good chances missed. Equally, Hamilton were quick on the break and could feel they could have won too. I did not see the Hamilton goal clearly, so can't comment on Fon Williams, but I felt he was not fully fit. Hamilton targeted Horner initially, but I felt he did fine and pushed forward effectively a few times. Tremarco quieter than sometimes but also had a couple of chances. Mckay did well, particularly as playing through an injury, whilst Meekings played on after a heavy knock, which is probably why he stayed back all second half. Tansey and Draper were solid enough in front if the defence, and protected the "walking wounded". I cannot criticise Vigurs today, whilst Cole could turn out to be a find if we can keep hold of him. His goal gave him confidence and he was a real livewire: my man of the match. Mulraney's pace was troubling Hamilton, but he sometimes lacks judgement and keeps the ball too long. Doumbouya was his normal self, and held the ball better than sometimes. Is Doran struggling? Surprised he did not come off the bench. The ref was poor again. An encouraging afternoon, only lacking a winning goal. And at risk of being controversial, the flares, by both sets of fans, were unnecessary.

Administration pending, unless... How can we go from SupercaleygoballisticCelticareatrocious in the year 2000, to Scottish Cup Winners in 2015, playing in Europe and just 9 years after lifting the Cup; Administration. Mismanagement and our demise was hastened by the appointment of Scot Gardiner. Ever since then, ludicrous decision making has seen our stock plummet whilst 'shady' dealings were investigated. The failed Concert Company, the Battery Storage, the Statkraft contract have all ended badly leaving the club facing insolvency.

That's another fine mess you've got us into.

      Chairman Ross Morrison resigns

Nothing official from the club as we speak, but the Inverness Courier are running with a story that Ross Morrison has resigned at 18:00 tonight 3rd June.  More to come as this story develops, but most fans are looking for more heads to roll.

Speaking exclusively to The Inverness Courier, Mr Morrison said he is leaving now because of the aftermath of the Fife move. “I believe it [the move to Fife] is the best way forward and I have to stick with my beliefs,” Mr Morrison said. “This is the reason I'm stepping down now.”

Reflecting on his time with the Caley Thistle, Mr Morrison said: “My six-year tenure with the club has had some great and some not so great times but through everything I was immensely proud to be the chairman of the club and clubs I’ve supported for 50 years - I was a Jaggie by the way.

“I would ask the fans to rally round the club at this time and show their support by not only purchasing their season tickets but also getting involved directly with the club to see how they can help.

“Hearing fans saying they would prefer administration to training the first team in Kelty sent a shiver down my spine. Administration is a desperate thing to happen to a club and must, at all cost, not happen to ICTFC.”
