Stong winds eh...so...we'll be keeping the ball on the deck and abandoning the long punt up the park to Billy then?4 points

We actually went one round further this year: fourth rather than third. May 2015 seems a lifetime ago, as does knocking County out a couple of seasons back. That was as bad a performance as I can remember in a long time. Other than after we weathered the early storm and Henderson hit the post, we were second best all over the park. Doran had a great chance but got his feet in a tangle, although I’m certain he was offside when played through. Other than that, we did nothing. Queens Park passed better, moved better, won all the second balls, created the better chances and could have won more comfortably. They knew how to play us and we had no answer. They pressed us so we couldn’t play out from the back, and when we went long as a result they invariably regained possession. Boateng mopped everything up in midfield and Mckay had no hope against their tall defenders. We needed a Plan B to keep the ball from goal kicks and throw ins but we failed to have one. As for the goals, I’m a fan of Devine but his wayward pass loosely towards Duffy created the first gift, whilst goodness knows how neither him nor Ridgers took control as they jointly gifted the second. We had some hopes that our fortunes had changed in recent weeks, but tonight was very, very poor. We need a reaction on Saturday or our season is well and truly over. 869 of us gave up our time on a miserable Tuesday and got absolutely no reward. We can’t even blame the weather or the officials. Not good at all.3 points

The best team won this cup tie, they were the livelier the whole game, shot on site and bullied us off the ball. I felt we were just about keeping them at bay until Allardice went off, then two defensive mistakes cost us the game. We were riding our luck on several occasions involving our backline, but I felt we would get caught out eventually and we did. It might have been different if Doran hadn't lost his footing after Billy had put him through, but QP passed the ball so well the whole game, and we should try and get to that level if we want to get back on the winning track again on Saturday.3 points

Queen were the stronger sharper team and always looked like scoring.Ridgers man of the match for us and kept us in the game.I thought some of our defending was poor,we seemed to get caught with the ball and then two defensive errors, which were expected, cost us the game.We need to do something to tighten up in defence. It goes without saying we are really missing Deas2 points

Queens looked like they wanted it more tonight. However both goals were disappointing to lose as they came from mistakes. Having said that they had plenty other chances; Ridgers made some great saves. There keeper had a fairly quiet night apart from two good saves late on. First goal was crucial and unfortunately we gifted it to them. Having to chase it you felt there was more chance of them getting a second. And so it came to pass. Get back at it Saturday but will require to be better all round...2 points

I rewatched the goals and you have to look at the central midfield for both of Raith's goals. The first, a fairly simple long ball through the middle is headed clear by Devine. Maybe you could argue that he should have sent it clear but given the nature of the ball and his body position I think knocking it back into that area is a fair enough clearence, it's reasonable to expect our midfield '2' in a 4-2-3-1 to cover there. However, both Hyde and Welsh are out of position, leaving a gap for Vaughan to pick the ball up. It's exactly the sort of position that a player like Vaughan loves, the half space between the midfield and defence and he punished us with a clever hit, early before anyone could pressure him. You can see the back four looking to cover the forward runs of Raith's other attackers, a very hard position for them to defend. Hyde is a few yards back, Welsh is miles behind out of the screen when you watch on YouTube. Poor from them. For the second goal, Hyde has possession in the centre circle and tries a very ambitious pass, looking to hit Henderson to feet. It's trying to slide it past two Raith players but the fullback intercepts it and immediate transitions into attack, feeding his midfielder. Hyde then has to put pressure on the ball but completely fails to block or slow down play, he slips. This then causes Welsh to have to come across and defend, which pulls him out of position giving space to Vaughan. Again, our back four are faced with Raith's most dangerous player on the ball in space, in front of them with multiple players making runs at the defence. This time Vaughan turns provider to Connolly, who takes advantage of the space for a good finish. Mistakes in the middle from us were very costly - we were outplayed in that area the whole game really. Allardice coming back is a huge boost.2 points

Weather Permitting... The Spiders will be back a week and a bit on from the no scoring Championship draw at the Caledonian Stadium. Not too much has changed within either camp although plenty has changed weather wise. There had been nearly a foot of snow dumped across the area since Monday into Tuesday over a week ago. That caused the original tie to be called off. Conditions have improved since then but there is a strong wind warning in force from this Tuesday night into Wednesday. The prize for the winner is an away tie at Livingston. The League game was as entertaining a goalless encounter as you will see with plenty of chances and big saves at both ends. However, this week it's Scottish Cup action. It's nearly eight years since the Caley Jags lifted the trophy. Spare a thought for Spiders fans, their last success in this competition was 1893, although they have won it 10 times: 1874, 1875, 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1884, 1886, 1890, 1893. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match Info/Tickets ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mind you, plenty has changed over the last 150 years, although there was a lot of scurrilous goings on back in the day including Vale of Leven refusing to turn up for the final in 1884. Even the 1993 final had controversy surrounding it. I wonder why they never told anyone until half the game had been played. Final: 25 February 1893 (see Wiki links) Celtic 1 – 0 Queen's Park Towie Ibrox Park, Govan Attendance: 30,000 Referee: R. F. Harrison Match declared void due to frozen pitch (decided pre-match after inspection, but not announced to spectators until the second half) What, no undersoil heating? Cup Final replay (11th March 1983) From Wikipedia Queen's Park 2 – 1 Celtic Sellar Blessington Ibrox Park, Govan Attendance: 15,000 Referee: R. F. Harrison The winning goal was believed by some observers not to have fully entered the goal before being cleared, and Celtic protested but the score stood. Although their use would not have resolved that particular incident, this controversy and debate led to goal nets being introduced in the latter stages of the Scottish Cup from then on. Same old Celtic, always greeting I'm told Mantis and Gringo were at that replay. Anyway, nostalgia is great, but let's get back to the future>>> Last Time Out Inverness came from behind twice to earn a point at Raith Rovers. Not a great spectacle in the first half where Rovers went ahead when a Vaughan shot from near thirty yards caught out Ridgers who seemed to be wrong footed as the ball bounced into the net. A tidy move saw Billy Mckay feed Jay Henderson to rifle the ball home from outside the corner of the six yard box just after the interval. Rovers went ahead again when Aidan Connolly shot round Ridgers into the bottom of the net for another seemingly loose strike but a tremendous early run and head glance saw Mckay level the game from a Sean Welsh free kick. Queens Park got a sharp lesson at Dundee as the hosts scored three goals in a twenty minute period in the second half to run away with the points. Interestingly enough, only since Euan Henderson entered the game. The recent Championship draw was an entertaining affair with chances aplenty. More of the same would make for an entertaining game, if we could just add some goals to that all will be well. Latest Team News 2023 Billy Dodds has seen Nathan Shaw, Sean Welsh and Zak Delaney, return in recent weeks. However we have lost Max Ram for around a month. Scott Allardice and Cammy Harper returned to the squad at Raith Rovers on Saturday with Allardice getting nearly half an hour and Harper made his 100th appearance in a final ten minute cameo at the end. Austin Samuels still nowhere to be seen as the plot thickens. The Spiders may well be along the same lines as their Dundee defeat and Manager Owen Coyle has added a late arrival as the transfer deadline window drew to a close. He has secured the loan of Euan Henderson the 22 year old attacking left winger from Hearts who joined Queens on 27th January and came off the bench in the 3-0 defeat at Dens Park. It was 0-0 at the time...1 point

I have started this thread to post any deadline day news though it could end up being one that has next to 0 comments lol if we don't sign anybody else. I think we do need another Striker which could be doable now that we have loaned out a few youngsters and also George Oakley has left so there is money there, likely for a loan move. Which takes me nicely on to the rumour right at the start of January where we were linked with Celtic youngster Joey Dawson, though that's gone quiet since that rumour was first reported. Anyway, I see David Sutherland has mentioned on our fan view section of the Press and Journal that he will be keeping an eye on any news tomorrow so maybe he anticipates one more addition too . Fwiw, if we don't sign anyone else then I won't grumble as it can't be too long until we get more players back from injury Oh and feel free to contribute to this thread though I'd appreciate you guys going easy on me .1 point

Who cares about the west stand roof? Honestly if the club spend any of their money on that it will be an absolute waste. Fair enough if it gets fundraised but that shouldn’t be a priority.1 point

Come on now. Look at how much communication has improved. Also I'm certain the the roof on the west stand is getting really close to being built. Remember that it just wasn't possible earlier because of the concerts.1 point

Both Raith goals were very well placed/taken shots. There's always an argument for closing down quicker however for us to respond from both and to get a point out the game was excellent. Surely Raith must realise by now it is impossible for them to beat us1 point
-
I really despair at those who think fans should just hand over their hard earned and expect nothing in return. The club have not delivered on a single promise, on or off the park, for a long time. When things don't pan out, they're either ignored/conveniently forgotten or it's everyone elses fault. The very least fans should expect is to be entertained...otherwise what's the point? I'm not having a go at the players, I don't boo players, I clap them onto and off of the park. They can only do their best and we don't often see players not trying. However, if they are set up to olay boring football, then the best they can play is boring football. That's not on them.1 point

In a league where literally anybody can beat anybody, where home advantage rarely seems to be one, is a draw away from home a bad result? Especially coming back twice from being behind. I'd say that it was pretty decent, given that surely RR by dint of averages must beat us eventually! Yes you could argue that if Hamilton and Arbroath can win away etc etc, but an away point is still good in my book. We are slowly getting bodies back, we've scored 12 goals in 4 matches, we kept a clean sheet against the league leaders just recently [a team that played us off the park in the previous meeting].....are we putting on dazzling displays each week, perhaps not.... are we hanging on in there after a torrid winter with an injury crisis, yes we are! two points off the play-offs, 9 off automatic promotion {with every side above us to be played twice again] with the likes of Ayr, Dundee and Partick to be played twice again. We don't have any financial advantage over any other side in the mix, Is the likes of Henderson making a difference? I'd say yes [as was Shaw until he got injured], we've not lost since his arrival which is also helping Billy Mac [and Doran is making a contribution]. The management must be confident of seeing Samuels, Sutherland and Walsh back soon to let Oakley go, and suddenly our subs bench looks a whole lot better. Who knows we could soon see Allardyce, Welsh and D Mackay in the same midfield. Do I think Dodds is the right guy for us, I'm not sure...the guy who gave us a real buzz was Neil McCann, but he didn't want to stay, but we have Dodds, he can get us going on good runs, he needs to able to stop the bad runs quicker. I still think we have a chance this season and I'm booked with my wife to come up for the last home game of the season...I kinda of feel it will be good trip Yes...I know I'm certifiable, but I'm still loving supporting Caley {but then I support Palace too, so I know what rollercoaster experiences feel like]1 point

I agree with Huiseans post but, for fans there is the enjoyment factor of supporting our team. At Raith, I and a quite a few others chose our seats, up high, away from the sun, good view of the whole pitch. Then the young fans arrived, around us. Good, plenty atmosphere, craic ok. Until the flares - not thrown (could be identified on cctv) so just put on rows around us. Choking. I found a Covid mask and put it on. It is unbelievable to see the colour from the flare which came out of my lungs into the inside of the mask. Please, please, these flares are damaging lungs and people’s health. I can show the mask. I enjoy the craic, the singing, but it’s a shame that I now have to ensure I have a mask to help my health if I’m around our young fans. Strange days indeed, following ICT.1 point

I really despair when I see posts like this. Supporters support the team and should do so. By all means have a go at the manager (I didn't want him either) or the board but the team on the pitch needs supported, not by far ns staying away. You don't go to football matches with a guarantee of entertainment but some fans seem to think that is their right. The players do, by and large, seem to be playing for the team hence they should have our support. We are no longer a Premier league team and some fans need a reality check on that. We are a Championship quality team and that is unlikely to change soon. Key to next season is getting the right manager in.1 point

If the highlights are a fair reflection of the game, we are fortunate to have got a point. Both Raith goals stemmed from poor play by us: a defensive header by Devine that fell to a Raith player and a slack pass by Hyde. However, both our goals were good. Great play between Henderson and Mckay for the first, whilst the second looked to be off the training pitch. A great run into space by Mckay and picked out perfectly by Welsh. Big week ahead as we need to beat Morton (and also Queens Park in the cup ideally) then we have a double header next month against Hamilton, our bogey team, who look to have found some form. We will know by the end of February if we are going to be in contention for a play off place.1 point

We could win every game between now and the end of the season and I don't think it would make me feel any different. ICT has become a hollow, soulless club. The football is not entertaining, the feeling of being a part of things has gone and watching so many people off the pitch stealing a wage is unbearable.1 point

We finished 5th the season Dodds took over, then finished 3rd at the end of his first season and were 45 mins away from promotion. This season we’re back to 5th. I’m not sure he’s been any worse than what we’ve had since John Hughes. Let’s see how we get on when some of the injured players get back.1 point

Think there are a lot of us season ticket holders now not using them . Anyone that knows anything about football can see how backwards we have gone with Dodds . Certainly can’t see me renewing mine which is sad really .Drawing with Raith is not a good result and should not be applauded as some are doing . He is extremely lucky the club is not in a financially strong footing as he would be long gone . Very poor appointment at the time which looks like we are now stuck with till the end of season . Roll on the end of this era.1 point

Until I read the excellent report above, I could only go by Sportscene’s brief report which indicated it was a decent game and we deserved our equaliser late on. We’ve crept back up to fifth as a result.1 point

Record Intact The last time Raith Rovers beat us at Stark's Park, it was jumpers for goalposts, three corners a penalty, Donview and Mantis had cranial hair and Groovejet by Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis Bextor topped the charts. Well, are we still waiting? Yes we are and here's why. Jamie Gullan saw an early header come off the crossbar as the hosts bossed the early pace of the game. Lewis Vaughan opened the scoring on the half hour after a period of home pressure when the ball fell to him outside the box after a succession of corners and he shot low beyond Ridgers. Inverness would need to up their game if they wanted to preserve that record. Jay Henderson levelled the game shortly after the break scoring from a tight angle. Unfortunately for Inverness Aidan Connolly restored their advantage with an hour gone. Scott Allardice returned to action after months out and after a couple of near things for Raith, Billy Mckay popped up to level the game once more seven minutes from the end with a header from a Sean Welsh free kick. That's how it ended and the wait goes on for Raith Rovers fans. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With George Oakley off to Morton, Dodds had more space to fill on the bench and back into the frame came long term injured Scott Allardice and Cammy Harper. New signing Ben Woods was missing and still no sign of Austin Samuels. Raith had loan signings midfielder Scott MacGill from Hearts and forward William Akio from Ross County in their squad. Raith got the game underway and were first to show but Mark Ridgers gathered Lewis Vaughan's effort comfortably in the fourth minute. Jamie Gullan headed off the crossbar a couple of minutes later and the follow up by Dylan Easton was blocked as the hosts made a bright start. Daniel Mackay brought Jamie MacDonald into action as Inverness came out of their defensive shell with fifteen minutes on the clock and Billy Mckay was also denied by the keeper moments later as he tried to clip the ball past MacDonald. Gullan took a knock in a clash with Ridgers and Nolan had some treatment soon after. Raith forced a series of corners and the opener came through Lewis Vaughan who shot home from distance outside the box into the bottom corner. Half Time: 1-0 It only took Inverness four minutes to do something about it after the interval when Jay Henderson levelled the game scoring from a tight angle. However Aidan Connolly put Raith back in front on the hour with a curling shot into the bottom corner. Scott Allardice made a welcome return to action replacing Lewis Hyde soon after with Nathan Shaw replacing Dan Mackay as we looked to rescue something from the game. Billy Mckay showed his defensive qualities clearing the ball off the line to prevent a third for Raith and substitute William Akio was denied by Ridgers as the hosts looked to kill off the game. Mckay preserved the record with a headed goal from Sean Welsh's free kick and Raith's Brown headed over in injury time to ensure it ended all square at 2-2. Full Time: 2-2 Billy Mckay not only scored his 91st goal for Inverness and fifth since the turn of the year but also made a valuable contribution at the back clearing off the line. Jay Henderson scored his second goal in four games since coming in on loan from St Mirren and it was tremendous to have Scott Allardice back on the pitch after a lengthy lay-off through injury. A decent point given Raith's recent resurgence and another game on our road to recovery as well.
