Kelty/ Is this a joke - merged thread

Club Statement
As one major part of our planned strategic restructure of the club, ICTFC are delighted to announce an innovative agreement with League 1 side Kelty Hearts which will see the club move our training base to the Fife club’s New Central Park Stadium.
This creative partnership will mean that we will hire their excellent facilities which include a 3g pitch, onsite grass pitches and offices for our coaching staff, as our training base during the week starting from this coming pre-season in June.
The last few years have seen the geographic challenges in getting players to move to the Highlands become ever harder for a number of reasons.
Caledonian Stadium will always be our home, but other factors in Scottish football have changed and where we train should not be an impediment to the quality of the players we can attract to Caley Thistle, or to our potential to progress.
The commercial success of the city of Inverness – which will always be our home - both as a tourist destination and a place to live, has led to very high prices for the accommodation we require to house players. In addition to these high costs which our competitors do not carry, the extremely limited housing stock in Inverness continues to be both a challenge and a huge factor working against us.
Increased playing budgets in and around the central belt has meant that on many occasions, even when we have offered players more favourable terms than our competitors, sometimes even agreed deals, we have then been told that the player has changed his mind due to challenges relocating their families. Support structures in and around the families of players may all be in and around the central belt, partners will have jobs where they live and moving kids schools to the Highlands and moving home itself can just be seen as impractical for a one or two year contract.
It makes it particularly challenging for us to sign senior players, a category which through no fault of our budget, or of previous ICT Managers, we have struggled to attract in the last few seasons.
Similarly, our location means that we miss out on the opportunity of signing promising players from the larger clubs in Scotland, on loan or otherwise.
For the avoidance of any doubt we absolutely intend to continue to develop our own homegrown Highland boys and we will take the appropriate steps to make sure that by being creative, innovative and practical, they do not miss out on the chance to have a pathway to first team football with their team. We have a proud tradition of introducing local players in to our first team and this will absolutely continue.
We obviously never intended to be in the same division as Kelty when originally exploring this concept, but football throws strange things at you sometimes and having reassessed the proposition and judged that the pros still far outweigh the cons, we would like to thank the Board of Kelty Hearts and MD Stefan Winiarski and his management team for considering this unique to the SPFL partnership, and then seeing and agreeing on the possibilities and benefits for both clubs.
To reiterate, by moving our footballing department's training base to central Scotland, both the club's Board of Directors and the club's First Team Management feel we give ourselves the best possible chance to attract the highest quality players to the club, allowing some of the players we sign to also live in and around the central belt while playing for ICTFC.
We now look forward to taking further positive strides on and off the pitch to address the football and financial challenges we face we believe this exciting opportunity to help us attract players previously not available to us and build a better squad, is one of the first steps we can make and we hope to develop further innovative partnerships.
Inverness is and will always be our home.
The Caledonian Stadium will always be where we play our football. We hope this venture will help us achieve our goal in giving our supporters a team to be proud of.

Just read the article in The Courier (sorry have been unable to attach the link) about Clach making available 300 free season tickets to those eligible for a youth concession. The difference between the two clubs couldn’t be more stark at the moment and Clach look like they’re trying their best to capitalise on the opportunity to garner more local support at ICT’s expense.

Pretty sure they don't train 125 miles away though.

*Edit* Just did some quick groundwork. If Arbroath trained in a similar manner, they would be training in Kilmarnock

He is also laying the groundwork for "If we don't do this the club will go bust" excuse. Totally missing the point entirely.

They train at the Oriam (Heriot-Watt Uni) which is about 70 miles.

Indeed - that is quite the number and bears further investigation. Does it - for example - pay for housing for any non-playing staff? I would hope that we are not paying the full rent/mortgage for 13 houses.

On a business level, I would not baulk at us subsidising a player's relocation costs and housing for a defined period (within reason), but it should not be ad infinitum. Thats the way most employers work when they ask you to change location.

Includes manager, assistant manager, physio, sports scientist as well as non local players who have a prescribed budget for accommodation. The current physio (about to change), when his job was advertised recently, the advert included accommodation. Surely these same individuals will need housing in the Fife area too?????

Forgive me if I'm being dumb, but can we really not find a physiotherapist locally? The last advert I could find online (from 2022) for a new club physio didn't mention accomodation then.

Possibly, but I guess any football really wants a physio who has experience of working on a team of full time sportsmen. Perhaps not many of those in the Highlands.

And the elephant in the room said...

Amongst all this talk of cutting to the bone, we are persevering with an overpaid out of his depth 'manager' , an  inept CEO and filling Keltys pockets into the bargain.

Of course there are sports physios up here

With experience of working on a squad of full time professional sportsmen? I would imagine a pro football club would ideally want someone who has done that before, but maybe I’m completely wrong.

A quick google search shows up a lot of possibilities locally, if we were, for example, a community club and not pissing off the community at every turn.

This example seemed pretty decent...

https://www.highlifehighland.com/blog/new-physio-clinic-opens-at-inverness-leisure/

"“We have a team of highly skilled practitioners with experience working within many sports from professional football for Inverness Caley Thistle Football Club and Celtic Football Club to Olympic skiers in the Austrian Alps. Our sports massage therapist, Josh Meekings is a former professional footballer and therefore knows the demands of sports people."

I think Morrison can't see the wood for the trees.  He says if the fans don't buy season tickets the club goes bust but then he does things that pretty much every single season ticket holder opposes.  It's the way that the current board have treated fans for years - we don't give a f**k about anything you say, think or want, just cough up money again.  Eventually that road runs out.  He even seems to criticse the fans by effectively saying "oh well no-one cared when we announced we'd shut down the youth academy!".  I think I'm right in saying that was never announced, they said "oh we might have to shut down the youth academy depending on what happens".

The idea of all these unnamed people in football phoning him up and telilng him what a great idea this is is a complete fantasy as well.

The whole tone of the discussion and interview is the usual for Morrison - "we have to do this, we have to, there's no alternative".  You get the feeling that in just about every case with the board they decide something and then just cover their ears and fail to look at the problem in a different way.

Indeed. I know of previous club physios who have been local and who were employed by the club - while they were in the top flight - without having previously worked with a full-time sports club at any point.

Some players have been 'housed' in hotels.  Austin Samuels has been living in the new AC Marriot.

So how have performers in the Highlands in other sports, who are operating at levels considerably higher than third tier domestic football, have managed for a very long time?

I'm cross posting with P&B at this point, apologies if this doesn't make sense.

I think administration is where this is going to be honest.  What has been hinted at is that quite a few of the other major shareholders (Dougie MacGilvary and family and Alan Savage) want to take over but don't want to have to pay off the money that Morrison and others have put in and are owed.  So if the club went into administration the money owed to him and others could be CVA'd down to a lower ammount.  That's very dangerous of course and would definitely put the club's future at risk.  But I can't really see any other outcome if the current incumbents don't walk away.

Another point about it is that I don't think Morrison, who is a wealthy man by all accounts but not so wealthy that he can cross out £1m a season, can afford to walk away and the only way he'll get his money back is for us to get back into top flight.  Hence we've got the Operation Moonshot sensibility - stage concerts to make loads of money!  Get involved in a strange battery farm property deal to make £3m!  Appoint coach from English Premiership on a huge wage and move traiing to accomodate him!  It's moonshot after moonshot and none of them have worked.  The only way we can go is to build the club up again, the way it was done before, and that isn't going to be a quick and easy job.  It's certainly not a job for Ross Morrison and Scott Gardiner, or any of the current board.

The article just highlights the delusion of those involved.

My love of ICTFC comes from when I stayed in Balloch in the 1970s as a child until I was 8 years old. At that point we could only dream of our local team being in the Scottish League, never mind winning the Scottish Cup, and playing in Europe. Couldn’t believe I have seen an Inverness team achieve that in my lifetime.

Fast forward now, and the decision to leave our home (whether it’s ‘just’ training or not)erode the reason I kept supporting MY Inverness team, and no reason remains. All affinity ripped and the link to my happy childhood in Balloch gone.

I do feel betrayed. Thank you Mr Morrison and Mr Gardiner.

So Morrison thinks Gardiner has been loyal.  What about fans who have been loyal since the club was formed?  Fans who have bought season tickets year in, year out are now saying they will not buy one this year due to this absurd decision.  Does the loyalty of these people not matter?

No.

If we go bust it's our fault, or apparently the fault of the Supporters Trust if they encourage it. But certainly not his or Gardiner's for their epic trail of failures, or Ferguson's for his inability to learn from mistakes.

It absolutely blows my mind that somehow Morrison sees Gardiner as indispensable because it's all hands on deck. Instead we move the day-to-day day down to Kelty which suits our Manager to the ground.

Looks like Reporting Scotland has a piece on the meeting. Wonder if they'll have a shot of the banner on the stadium door this morning?

Would Morrison tolerate such ineptitude in his other businesses?

if not, why is he letting it destroy this business!
