I can't let Leicester City's fantastic achievement of winning the English Premiership go without mention. Looking certain for relegation halfway through last season and 5,000 to 1 against winning at the start of this season, they have defied the odds and deservedly won the title with 2 games to spare. And they have done it with a bunch of players who are basically the same as were staring relegation in the face last year. This is a team which has been assembled at a cost of a small fraction of what the big name clubs in England spend. It is absolutely remarkable by any standards. It is not often that an un-fancied team comes through to win a big cup competition but this is a much, much bigger achievement than that. Winning a cup requires maybe 2 or 3 excellent performances and maybe a bit of luck. To win a league of 38 matches requires consistency over the whole season. To have done that in one of the strongest leagues in the world is astonishing. This is truly one of the great stories, not just of football, but of any sport. What it shows without doubt, is that the team is greater than the sum of it's parts. Of course you need good players, but you need to play to their strengths and to get the best out of them. That is what Ranieri has done. He has come in and assessed the players and developed a way of playing that suits the team. Leicester have shown the world that football is a team game - and how! But there are some interesting coincidences in Leicester's success. The last time a Midlands club lifted the English title was in 1981 when Villa won. Villa, of course have been relegated this year but back in 1981 Leicester were relegated. The previous time a Midlands club won the title was in 1978 when Nottingham Forest won. It so happens that Leicester were relegated in that season too! A further quirk here is that after their title successes, both Forest and Villa then went on to win the European cup the following season. Leicester surely can't repeat that - can they?

The club have offered free tickets to the children of Hilton Primary, I'm assuming they may have approached the other local schools too....if this encourages some adults to attend too, it may fill up the stands for the cameras if nothing else. cancel that - this is actually for the final game of the season vs Dundee. My mistook!
  5. Ex-ICT OTJ at CJT?
  6. Toby Agestein on target again this evening with a goal in a 4-1, away from home, Norwegian cup win. That's six in six matches now since scoring his first just under three weeks ago.
  7. He did spend a fair amount of time at the stadium today!
  8. Dundee United would be a great move for JH. He'd be able to commute from home and would have a far larger budget. Promotion and a cup run would be viewed as a success whereas I can't see where he can take us now.

That is a shame but we can't afford three experienced 'keepers but Brill was a vital part of our success last season despite missing the last few weeks. I would like to thank him for his valuable contribution and wish him success and particularly injury free for wherever his career now takes him.
  10. Just posted a blog entry with a Player of the Year update. With 3 games to go any one of five different players can still be the CTO - POY for 2015/16

This image clearly shows that you're wrong. Whilst they may have a 'high by our standards' budget, it's actually relatively very low, in fact one of the lowest in their league. Regardless of the amount of money in their owners bank account. this is very much a David slays Goliath fairy tale. If the mighty ICT won the spiffle on out humble budget it would be regarded as such and rightly so. Even though Wick Academy would decry our massive budget.

There will be at least 2 away fans, I know a couple who are travelling up for the game. At first I couldn't imagine why they would bother, then I remembered that the alternative for them was a Friday night in Dundee.
  14. Joining the CJT Board ?
  15. Not enough yet, by Caley Jags Together will be manning the desk in the sports bar pre the United game and will be taking names. So hopefully we will some more names to make the bus viable.
  16. could otj be coming back in?
  17. Not much to add from what AM has said. We were much more positive in an attacking sense. Gone was the lethargic sideways passing replaced by direct attacking play initiated by rapid closing down of Partick players when they had the ball. Draper, Polworth and Roberts were really impressive in terms of their work rate to close down opposing players. We don't get that with Vigurs and whilst he is no doubt a talented player I feel he lacks the same level of determination to clamp down on opposition players with the same effectiveness as the players mentioned above. Mutumbo had his best game for us in what I would say is his best position (just behind a striker although we didn't play with one again as Storey was deployed on the right hand side of the pitch but it worked). Some of his flicks and tricks don't come off but he is very good at playing cute little passes in behind the last man for a team mate to run on to. I'm not his biggest fan but he was very impressive. Tremarco and Meekings also got further forward than I have seen them do in a long time. It was almost a return to the gung ho days of Paterson as more often than not our defence typically ended up being Devine, Warren and Tansey just in front of them such was the relentless attacking down the flanks from out full backs. Partick, as AM said, gave up really quite quickly which was surprising. That said we shouldn't take anything away from ICT as we were really quite good. It's just a shame that we've emphasised so much on possession for possessions sake instead of actually trying to attack other teams like we did on Saturday. Hoping for a continuation on Friday night against what will surely be a dispirited Dundee United side.
  18. I don't know about anyone else, but I left the two Astra games with quite a bitter taste. Some of their thuggery, gamesmanship and downright cheating was disgraceful.

Not to me it doesn't as things are not quite so simple. Nothing said about the loss of quality players who we were going to struggle to replace no matter who was the manager. Some posters have never wanted JH and have not been prepared to give him ant sort of leeway. To be sure, this season could have gone better but, in reality, will have been no worse, in terms of league position than many others. Clubs like ICT will always struggle to achieve consistency and the good seasons will be outweighed by ones that are less good as other clubs will snap up our good players. Just look at Dundee Utd as an example of how quickly things can change. The only way the club will really progress is twofold, by rearing more of it's own players and more fans attending on a regular basis. If that doesn't happen, enjoy the good seasons and continue to support the team during the bad seasons.
  22. Except this is a football forum where fans come to speculate on their favourite teams affairs. Or should we just stay as silent as the club does Jeez
  23. For as long as John Hughes is in post, this is an incredibly pointless and counterproductive thread.
  24. I have nothing to say....just wanted to have the thousandth post on this thread.....
  25. A few more players signed up and a settled injury free Team he will get us in the top six and possibly a final next season, Hopefully he will get a longer contract for himself with ICT too.
