  1. Well i enjoyed yet another memorable ICT away day. Those who i expected to see i met and saw. Nowt wrong with the atmosphere. As fer the game it was poor but both teams set up defrnsively. Loads of positives to me. Ridgers has cemented his place and really is a solid keeper. Donaldson was immense, Tremarco is the Duracell Bunny, Polworth ran his socks off as did Oakley and we appear to have unearthed a wee cracker in MacKay - simply has to be signed up - with sell on clauses - and given some real game time. We never looked troubled, defensively we kept it tight and shaped, thought we played some pretty stuff a times BUT as all season lacked the killer touch in the last third and lack of a proficient striker. We deserved to win. Our heads could have gone down after that deplorable penalty kicked but we kept to the age old adage of keeping going to the final whistle. Respect to the team and the loyal away support. Just need to get out of the play off spot and start planning gor nect season. Cant believe that so many are whingeing. To me it was a last gasp winner, just as stimulating and enjoyable as the Vincent clincher at Hampden - and giving most fans a well deserved, albeit wholly unexpected cup winning experience in the worst season in years. We are still alive and kicking and the only way is up dudes. Have a nice day ☺
  2. I can't believe people are moaning about the quality of the game - who cares. The atmosphere was great and the ending was perfect. It's been nearly 3 years since i had any fun watching Caley. The celebrations at the end today made it all worthwhile. I loved it.
  3. The manager drove to York (370 miles), picked up Daniel MacKay (and Kieran Chalmers I believe) and drove back to Edinburgh (200 miles) where they stayed overnight before heading on to Perth (a further 45 miles.... all "ish"). Daniel was asked about it in his Sportsound post-match interview, where one of the questions was "so who got to choose the music on the way back?" to which the answer was "oh there wasn't any music because the gaffer talked all the time". Making that trip in advance of the stresses and strains of managing a team in a cup final shows quite a lot of commitment to tge job.
  4. I've dragged my kids to some dismal away days recently and this was their first bit of football magic. A 93rd minute winner in a final right in front of us. Doesn't matter how bad the football is, there's not much in life that beats that feeling.
  5. please do. I'm sure we would'nt want you to bother yourself. Enjoy the shinty.
  6. Well said Caley Stan, its the same old set of moaners on here who delight in doing it, should put the same effort into supporting the lads, Robbo said himself a cup win lifts everyone so lets kick on, not kick in
  7. Don't know what people are moaning about, we just won a major trophy! Would you rather we played well and lost? This was the biggest game most Dumbarton players will ever play in their careers. The underdogs on these occasions are always fired up and running through brick walls. Of course we weren't going to roll them over. I'll take an ugly win every day of the week! In stark contrast to Yogi Hughes who would've driven him to Celtic Park and begged him to sign for them.
  8. Would folk have rathered we had played a blinder and lost? Tell you something that last gap goal was up with the best of them! Id almost forgot the raw emotion when this happens. Having seen and spoken to a good few players this win meant a lot to them. Lets just have a wee break for celebration and then return to the drudge of the league this season.
  9. I feel sorry for Dumbarton
  10. As well as being solid at the back, Donaldson was one of the only players on the park who wanted to carry the ball forward - I'm genuinely surprised that you think he looked like he didn't want the ball. It's true that he misplaced a couple of passes, but I think that was partly to do with the fact that the movement from our players in more advanced areas was frequently dreadful. That game should have been an opportunity for Mulraney to show off his ability, and he contributed nothing. Daniel Mackay provided more width, directness and outball in his first two minutes in the park than Mulraney did all game.
  11. If you don't like me I have no problem with that Charles or you think I am Indian or whatever no problem with that I have plenty of Indian friends and one of my business partners is from Pakistan and I have employed at least 100 Indians so far personally I see no problem with working with them in real life basic or online. if you don't want to read anything I say just ignore my comments.
  12. The criticism on here is partly a disrfespect to Dumbarton. They are a part time team who waited over 100 years to reach another cup final. They proved extremely resilient yesterday and were much more dangerous than us in the first half. Luckily our possession football paid off in the second half although only just. That said, cup finals are often cagey affairs whether world cup or champions league. That said, we needed a positive result this year and we now move forward to retain our status in the Championship before going again next year. The players will have learned a lot from their experience this year. We need to hang on to Donaldson and Mackay though. Warren has now learnt to avoid being banned for a cup final and quite righly now has a winners medal with us.
  13. thanks for the support and celebration of a trophy win against a really stuffy side. Glad you appreciated it.
  14. Not the greatest game ever but let’s give credit to Dumbarton. They defended very well indeed with a game plan to stop us playing. They kept things very narrow giving our midfield little space, and then they closed us down quickly making it difficult for us to find space. Having said that, we should have had the quality to find the cute passes into the space behind or to take defenders on - but we didn’t. That’s a worry. Mulraney looked particularly ineffective in a situation where getting past his man would have given him space to use his pace. Doran and particularly MacKay added that bit of sparkle as the Dumbarton defence tired. We might have got 2 or 3 at the end (Vigurs awful penalty apart). Doran drew a smart save from the keeper and MacKay took a shot when he had better options. Getting the cup win should be a great psychological boost, whilst the final 10 minutes should give some clues on how to break Dumbarton down in the games to come. As I say, not the greatest game ever, but a really important win for a number of reasons. Finally. Delighted for Gary Warren to be able to play in a final and collect the silverware.
  15. Watching Tremarco score the winning goal in a cup final at that time and the following celebration was worth the trip. For someone who has put in so much effort for caley superb. When it comes to it football finals are won by moments of magic and that was certainly a magic moment. Live long for caley fans cheers Carl ?
  16. Like the graphic tweeted by Irn Bru!
  17. Took my daughter to her first ever football match and spent 90 minutes thinking she’ll never want to to another one, but what an ending. She says she enjoyed it, but I’ll perhaps need to explain that games don’t always result in a win, a cup presentation and all the confetti!
  18. I get your point John, I was just thinking we have a job to do, and not to get carried away with celebrating. A job to do that must be done.
  19. Laurence, that’s bizarre. Dumbarton probably need to beat us twice so why would they be parking the bus? Also disrespectful to Brechin who have no pressure now they’re officially down.
  20. Lets not get carried away. A good day yesterday, but the team still has a job to do in the league, Far more important job to do. They have to make sure they don't finish second bottom. I for one don't want to play a team like Raith Rovers in a two match play off . Lets concentrate on doing a job for the rest of the season. Matches left Away games They look difficult. If Dumbarton park the bus not even a certain 3 points there Home games , Brechin is a certain 3 points , Dumbarton is the critical one , but again the dreaded bus may be parked, as they will also be fighting for survival The other games anything can happen , As I said we have a job to do. Somebody I once knew did a survey of midweek floodlit games and he told me a team was far more likely to drop points at home than on a Saturday fixture. 21. Good on you, Blair. We're not all 1950's throwbacks here . good luck with your endeavours with the club. I don't suppose you can afford a 25 goal per season striker?
  22. First of all what a great result! To win a cup, whatever cup it may be is still an achievement so I am very proud of the team. the match itself was hardly a classic. First half was dreadful from us with their keeper only making two saves from weak shots straight at himlate on. Dumbarton started well and defiantly had the better chances. The second half we were far and away the better team and when Dorran and mackay came on we look very dangerous. Mackay is a right gem!! It frustrates me no end that it took us so long to start looking dangerous in the final third we were lacking that cutting edge. Mulraney and chambers were invisible the entire game and how the hell was dolandson the MOTM!! His passing in the 1st half was awful as he looked lazy and that didn’t look to want the ball. Oakley gave 100% but lacks the quality to turn players and his touch let him down. Vigurs should never be allowed near a penalty again. I knew we would miss it the moment it was awarded. It is no wonder we are where we are in the league but there are signs of promise.
  23. Still in Perth, but ditto the rest.
  24. Not the greatest game I have seen, but history won't remember that, just the name of the winners and the goalscorer. I think it showed where we need to strengthen for next season. Col Donaldson was terrific at the back and striding forward to start attacks, definitely deserved his man of the match. So pleased as well for Tremarco, he works his socks off for the team. Robertson must know now the he has to give young Mackay more game time, he was more effective in the short time he was on, than some that played most of the game. I hope this gives the team the boost that they need, and we can kick on for the rest of the season.
  25. WELL DONE GUYS!!!! NOW KICK ON
  26. Well done ICT, a struggle but we got there. As soon as it is possible Sign Daniel Mackay on a long, long contract and ensure a huge sell on fee is written into his contract. That lad transformed the Team's attitude as soon as 'he came on.
  27. I will never have felt as angry and annoyed with my team for winning a cup final. Absolutely dismal embarrassing performance from most of the team. Exceptions could be made only for Ridgers, Warren. Donaldson, Tremarco, and the subs.
  28. Charlie Bannerman So, you finally admit that really you don't believe in free speech--unless it's coming from you. eh? Correct me if I a wrong, but have you yet said one word of encouragement to this youngish new member up to this point? If the answer to that is, clearly "no", would it not be better to say nothing at all and just spend your time reading the other postings on here? To be honest, taking into account that I don't think he has uttered one word of negativity against either the team or any poster who has accessed this thread yet, why are you so negatively critical of what he says and come across as sneering, or indifferent to his proposals. I'll quit whilst I am ahead.
  29. Well, as others have said, it is good to win, so I'm not going to pour cold water on it by highlighting our obvious failings. Watching the team celebrate took me back to that incredible day at Hampden nearly three years ago. It was great to see Warren finally get the medal he deserves after a long and successful career with us. Well done to him, and especially to Tremarco, whose Hampden memories are probably bitter sweet after his sending off. I just hope we can build on this for the remainder of the season, and obviously keep clear of the bottom play off spot. I've long since given up hope of us reaching the upper play offs.
  30. Well done the lads. A poor start, where Dumbarton looked likely to score, but by half time we looked more threatening, if ultimately toothless. But to their credit they stuck with it, and got the reward they deserved. The subs made the difference, Mackay's cross was perfect, and kudos to Carl for being in the right place to slot it in. I am glad we won from open play and not a penalty. You can see we are still a work in progress, and it is fairly obvious who we should keep and who should go in the summer - but there is a core we can build around. This season was always going to be difficult, so let's hope we can build on this, finish strongly and have a proper go next season. Special mention to MoM Coll Donaldson. Great to have him back.
  31. Add that to the gate money and, yes, that does help the solvency situation roundly. Congrats, anyway, to CaleyThistle for bringing home this cup this year. And, hopefully, spur the team on to the finishing line with a burst of energy and uplifted spirit.
  32. Very fitting that our only real player of much quality should get the winner after a great pass from our young 'star to be'
  33. I really don’t believe that. If one man deserved that it was Tremarco.
  34. Daniel Mackay take a bow! Superp. Well done Tremarco for the finish!
  35. You don't have to read it, or be so grumpy about a young lad wanting to help. You're quite the profligate one with your posts.
  36. Can you quit with the racist crap, please, Charles? I damn near called you out last time - this time I am. Didn't the reactions to your earlier post teach you anything?
  37. Agree. Punching above our weight is the sort of patronising comment beloved of condescending central belt pundits. We were in the top league for all those seasons on merit and with proper organisation and sound management, both on and off the pitch, there is no reason why we can't be again. Scottish Cup wins and European campaigns may be rare and special events but there is no reason whatsoever why top flight football should be. The reason why we are where we are is nothing to do with our fan base, geographical location or lack of resourses but everything to do with appalling mismanagement in the board room and the dressing room ever since that amazing season
  38. Oops one too many celebratory drinks or predictive text. You know what I meant. It's the Fourth nay the Firth, or more precisely the County of Ross. Was driving through Perth after the match listening to Off the Ball and a discussion about the slightly delayed "live" transmission on Alba. Tam Cowan said that Vigurs had missed the penalty on the live radio broadcast before he'd taken it on Alba.
  39. Spot on. The rest were gash.
  40. Blair..... are you sure your real job isn't answering customer service calls in a tin hut in downtown Delhi? ?
  41. Good Lord! I thought the Beast from the East had brought us quite enough snowflakery! Now it seems that referring to a frequent daily experience - unintelligible nuisance calls originating from the Subcontinent... or even perhaps to such calls as simply being unintelligible.... is considered to be racism. Our freedom of expression seems to have declined a very long way in a very short time since the days of "The Wheels On Your House".
