  2. I honestly think I lost my sanity for about two minutes when he scored that goal - a wonderful but scary feeling. Club legend - gone but never forgotten

  3. The thing is that Hughes is quite right with his comments. BUT - on previous history it is debatable whether he is the man to either retain or recruit the quality of player he is talking about. Also, had it not been for questionable tactics, we could have had one, or possibly two, cup finals this season.

  5. So, as I always suspected, Charles is not only a Tory but an anti-Cameron one. Suppose there's some good in that but following the ideals of Boris is also to follow the ideals of Nigel. Kind of dangerous for the good of this UK he so loves.

  6. Goodbye and our very best wishes, Dave - we'll never forget your goals - away to Ross County (1 yard) and the unforgettable semifinal winner (4 yards)! Sometimes, it's not the quantity that counts! Delighted he was given the send-off he deserved. The victim of a manager who would prefer to play one of our class central defenders as a makeshift right back ahead of a class right back. Go figure... You'll be missed and not forgotten.

  7. Thanks, as I said, I never saw said incident myself though just read a few comments about it. You're right in latter statement though. Cameron thanked the players and fans, no mention of the management team though.

  8. I find it odd that many SNP people value Independence and Self Determination so highly, yet maintain obsequious support for remaining in the EU, an institution which, at it's core, is anathema to both. Same goes for NATO. Some mental gymnastics at play there.

  9. Not strictly true. Yogi went onto the pitch at full time and was shaking hands with the players as they came off. David Raven was about 15 yards away, Yogi extended his hand towards him but he just walked off the pitch. I'm not saying Raven blanked Hughes, he didn't seem to be looking in his direction. Could have been seen as a snub but I'm not sure. Interestingly, when the chairman made his speech, I didn't hear him extend his thanks to the management team. I may have missed that, maybe someone can correct me on that.

  10. I didn't see that but have heard it from a couple of people. Doesn't surprise me. Hughes has no class.

  12. I could not make today, but great way to end season. Good that David Raven got his chance to say farewell. After last season, I predicted 8th this season, so we beat that. A tough year in many ways, but overall probably as good as we could have expected. If anything, our home form was the let down, as 7 defeats was far too many. I saw four of them, Motherwell twice, Hamiton and United, and generally came away thinking "how did that happen". We had successes. Polworth made the breakthrough, Storey was a godsend, Draper became our key man, Tremarco has shone. Unlike some, I would give pass marks to Devine and Vigurs. Without the injuries and if Cektic had let Christie stay, top 6 would have happened. On the downside, some signings were poor, and we really need Hughes and the Board to get on the same wavelength and get players signed up. It was a real shame that some players seemed to fall out of favour, especially Raven but also Vincent and Roberts. Looking forward, I will get my season ticket and be there as often as I can, and hope we build a top 6 team and have another cup run. Most of all, we need to get back to unity, Board, Manager, players and fans all working together to make our football enjoyable and successful. But, let's not forget, I'd have taken 7th if offered in August!

  14. David has left and will have no doubt as to what the fans feel for him .A very emotional send off .We can only wish him well for his future where ever it may be and Thanks for the memories ...... Now it's time for John Hughes to put his money where his mouth is . Apparently if we ended in 7th place it would make a big difference to who he could get in . Well now it's time for actions rather than words !!!

  15. I think through time people have mistakenly merged the performances of Munro, Duncan and Tokely into one. Now Duncan and Tokely were coming to the end while McBain and Golabek were finished at this level, but Munro not so. The season prior to him leaving us he wasn't in great form but the season after (when he was no longer captain) he was a lot better. Munro could've been a big part of our squad for another couple of seasons, he didn't decline until his final season with Ross County. This belief as well that we replaced him well initially needs nipped in the bud as well. He was replaced by Tom Aldred....TOM ALDRED! And even after his hissy fit that sent him home our defence was a mess. It wasn't until signing Gary Warren a year later that Munro was truly replaced.

  17. Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Hughes believes there is no reason why his club cannot win a cup or achieve European football next term. A convincing 4-0 win over Dundee clinched seventh place in the Premiership for Caley Thistle. It was a fifth win in Inverness' last seven games. "The standards I felt we've set were last year. I want to keep those standards, keep driving this club forward," said Hughes. The Highlanders have found form towards the end of a season in which they have struggled for consistency. Now Hughes wants to set his side lofty targets for next season."Don't tell me that a provincial club like Inverness can't go and win the Scottish Cup again, can't go and get third, get Europe," he told BBC Scotland. "I'll not accept that, that's the standards but we all need to be on board and keep driving it forward." 'Let's keep what we've got' Hughes concedes there may be significant changes in personnel, but reiterated the importance of retaining key players. "I keep saying this, let's make sure we keep what we've got, guys like Miles Storey and Greg Tansey," said the manager. "Keep that solid foundation and lets go and add to it. "When it starts off again we have to make sure that we're bringing in or keeping players that we feel will go and take us back into the latter stages of cup competitions." It does seem fans' favourite David Raven will depart, with Hughes admitting he sees Josh Meekings as his preferred option at right-back. A number of players have been offered contracts to stay but the club awaits final decisions.

  18. 12th Man; you're right, the diagonal red/blue sash on a white shirt is considered by most CPFC fans as an 'iconic' Palace shirt ....our away kit for next year is based on it but on a yellow shirt (yellow being considered a 'lucky' colour for an away kit by our superstitious fans!)

  22. Great way to round off the season. Could have been two down at the break but we were superb after the half and thoroughly deserved our goals, could have been five or six. Neat to see Raven get a run and he almost contributed to a goal and missed a header right at the death. All the best Dave, the fans have voted for you above the gaffer, says a lot about you as a person and Caley Jags player. It also said all there is to know about about Yogi.

  24. A great result which certainly couldn't have been predicted after 45 minutes...or even after 59! The first half was reminiscent of much of our season - lots of possession and barely any clearcut chances. Dundee played on the break and had five decent opportunities, all of which they spurned. Storey's goal came from a wonderful Polworth pass in behind, the first piece of quality we'd come up with in the final third. It was a great finish, showing composure even as the keeper forced him wide. It sounds from the postmatch interview like we're working hard to convince him to stay, which would be terrific. The decision immediately afterward to replace Storey with Foran was bizarre...but I suppose the outcome justified it! Foran's lovely front post flick laid on Devine to bundle home a second, and then immediately afterward Drapes mugged Nick Ross 20 yards from goal and killed the game off with a fine finish. The pen came after some great skill by Polly, who was our best player today. I think Draper suggested to Raven that he should take it, but Raven seemed to shake his head. I don't think Foran was giving the ball up in a hurry anyway! For those who weren't there, it's worth pointing out that Dundee looked so much more likely to score at 0-0. But it's a great result and a great way to finish the season. It may have a very positive effect on season ticket renewals too...

  25. If we had not had such a momentous season last year would fighting for 7 th spot been such a disaster that you would result in not renewing a season ticket. You cannot only sing when you are winning!!

  26. This decision is bigger than David Raven and the affinity that the fans hold for him and for what he has given the club, it's about the way the manager is running the team at the present moment and brings with it more questions than answers. Yes eventually the club will move on, as clubs always do, however we currently have a manager who is clearly intent on pulling in one way while the board, fans and players want to pull in another. Someone has to be wrong and something will break. I along with many others do not see this as an over reaction, it could well be the straw that breaks the camels back. Progress is made gradually and built on, success comes from progress but sitting with 8 signed up players for next season is not progress, it's a sharp decline. Has JH got the ability to bring in and retain 10-12 players of equal or better calibre than we have currently or are letting go, I think not. Would someone else have the ability to do the same if the board lose their patience in a relatively short space of time, I think not. My biggest fear is we'll end up with quantity and not quality ............................ we have to at all costs avoid becoming another St Mirren!

  27. Every time I sway on renewing, and this year I'm really swaying as transport up for games from the central belt is rotten, this is what I always keep thinking of. I'm not happy with things at ICT right now but regardless I've always said support the club rather the manager or board. That said, if you're really not happy with something as a paying customer you'd stop going to somewhere like a Tesco. Is this any different?

  28. I wonder who will get most vocal backing today, the Manager Of The Month or the right back deemed surplus to requirements.

  29. All a bit of over reaction, remember the huge outcry when Granty was released by Butcher? we moved on and Granty was mainly forgotten about in a playing sense, so i think the club will move on now as well without Dave the Rave. He has been a great servant to our club and we thank him for his time and THAT goal! best of luck Dave.

  30. There was a great bit of free cabaret in Morrisons this afternoon. As I was parking, I noticed, in the Parent and Child spaces, this beaten up old white Transit plastered with various stickers and with two flagpoles - one sporting a large lion rampant and the other a large saltire with "Yes2" inscribed on it. "Here we go!" I thought. And indeed, on entering the shop, I was not at all surprised to see this posse of what I can only describe as Braveheart Extras wheeling a trolley round the shop. I was equally unsurprised to observe that they had no children with them. I just wonder if they were filling their trolley at your expense and mine in order to spend the coming days and weeks, also at your expense and mine, visually polluting the front of the Scottish Parliament? Anyway, as this unkempt horde (the guy in matching camouflage hat and jacket plus extremely scruffy and badly fitting kilt was especially hilarious!) progressed in my direction, I noticed that one of them had on his T-short a large badge saying "Yes 2". So I just looked him up and down curiously and observed "But you haven't even been able to win Yes 1 yet!". The response wasn't quite audible but fairly easy to guess.

  31. So right, givemeaccccc! Negligible change in crowds this season and the most boring form of football on show. Never mind, at least we can buy into the team.....er no! No keeper, no right back and no strike force. Ditching fans favourites (Raven) on top of the above could have a critical input on sales. Some BIG positive announcements needed NOW.

  32. Unfortunately football is simply yet another collateral casualty of the fact that, almost five centuries on, Scotland still hasn't managed to come to terms with the Reformation.

  33. Didn't help matters? I didn't say i was being abusive or anything, the point I was making was I clearly didn't appreciate the threat of being chucked out for defending a young fan who had done nothing wrong. Considering security thanked me for my help in the situation, as did the fan in question, I think i definitely did help matters. ;) I didn't get his security number, however the security I spoke to where more than familiar with who it was so I am sure they could easily inform the club if asked. It was the security supervisor who removed the security staff member. Like I said, the rest of the security team did an excellent job. They always do when i attend matches.

  34. I can see a lot of Premiership managers raising an eyebrow and one or two raising their 'phones to call his agent. Very disheartening indeed. I would not be ion the least surprised to see him at County next season and couldn't blame him for it. He is settled in the area, loves it , wants to stay and we are inexplicably not offering him the option.

  35. So, that's the end of the 15/16 campaign. I've made a quick wee graph to show the form over the season and looking at it there's definitely a couple of high and low periods in terms of performances. Compared to last season's ecstasy, we've seen a sharp return to reality with a mass exodus of talent over the summer, and an injury list the same length as Ross Draper. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this year's serving of football.

  36. What is narcissistic about Hughes' statement?
    0 points
  37. I wasn't at the game because I live down south, but irrespective of the performance, it's one of the best results of the season. Hughes may have been too stubborn at times with continuing with possession based football when we don't have the attack minded players to play through the middle and open up defences, but I'd rather see that than see us struggling to keep possession. What I like about Hughes is that he knows what he wants, and hopefully he'll bring in the players to fill the gaps we've had this season. Fans saying they won't renew their season tickets are **** fans, talk about disloyal. What ever happened to supporting your club through thick-and-thin? It's no wonder players leave us when fans are considering not renewing their season ticket because of one fairly mediocre season (when realistically, this season we have performed at the level that a club of our size should, if not better). Two quarter finals, a seventh placed finish, and a positive goal difference, we'd be a laughing stock if we were to sack Hughes.

    • Relegation Statement
RELEGATION STATEMENT: This could have been said ten minutes after our defeat to Hamilton three days ago. So far, this is not the news that we on Caley Thistle Online wanted to hear. Pleased that we will still function as a club, disappointed that resignations have not been offered yet. Keeping fans waiting in silence for three days is unforgivable and relationships are drifting further apart than ever before. Silence is not the way forward, we deserve better as fans.

    • Inverness CT 2-3 (3-5) Hamilton - Play off final (relegation)
RELEGATED: Despite Inverness needing to get off the mark quickly, it was Accies that killed the tie inside the first fifteen minutes with strikes from Kevin O'Hara and Lewis Smith. Cammy Kerr reduced the leeway with a good strike from distance, but O'Hara struck again with a penalty before the break to diffuse the revival. We struggled to create anything of note and this reporter could not stomach any more and left the stadium. I'm told Alex Samuel pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but like the rest of the season it was too little too late.

    • Hamilton 2-1 Inverness CT - Play off final 1st Leg
A better showing from Inverness in the second half, especially with Lawal and Pepple on the park but it's Hamilton that take a one goal advantage up the A9 on Saturday. Lawal has been the standout performer in our last few games and surely he must start on Saturday. Pepple also did well, scored the goal, had an effort saved and got in a few balls across the box from tight positions.

Still, a shocker of a first half and we must be up for it from the start on Saturday.

The hurt, the pain, the reluctance and pig-headedness to listen to the fans asking what is going on, the lack of communication, the lack of ambition, the stench of mismanagement, the concert company, the battery farm, the demise since winning the Scottish Cup in 2015, the lack of passion, the lack of commitment, the dwindling fanbase, the lack of leadership. It has left the fans comfortably numb

However all is not well and we just kept our heads above water thanks to Arbroath being rubbish. Onto the play offs and an insipid performance at Links Park left us all wondering if our time has come to drop into oblivion. Our performance certainly would not look out of place in the lower leagues. We clung on for a 0-0 draw away from home and scraped a 1-0 win at Inverness with Billy Mckay saving our blushes. Everything about the club has negative undertones at the moment.
