  1. It is 30 years ago today (9th February 1985) during the playing of the 100th Scottish Cup that Inverness Thistle beat Kilmarnock 3-0 at Kingsmills Park in the third round. This is still looked upon by Kille fans as their biggest Scottish Cup defeat and so maybe the club could put a little reminder of it in the programme for the home game against Killie on the 21st February to mark the milestone (for historical purposes only). In a nod to this season's Scottish Cup - that same year in the 2nd Round Thistle beat Spartans 2-1 away after a 1-1 draw at Kingsmills Park. Caley defeated Berwick Rangers 3-0 in a 2nd replay after 1-1 and 3-3 draws. Therefore it would be fiiting that today's Scottish Cup draw paired us against the winners of the Berwick Rangers/Spartans tie. This would allow the club and the media (ok - maybe not the BBC) to reflect on how far we have come in such a short time.

It's an absolute disgrace that, at a time when Scottish football is actually quite interesting with the resurgance of Aberdeen, Hamilton and ICT punching well above their weights in the league, a three way battle for relegation etc. (and that's just in the Premiership), the BBC default to Rangers and Celtic. I know that there is a lot going on at Ibrox that warrants coverage but the apparent indifference shown to other teams in the league by the BBC is staggering. I've said before that Scottish football is quite easy to be negative about but organisations like the BBC have ample opportunity to talk up our game and the great jobs that clubs like Aberdeen and ICT are doing right now. Instead, it's wall to wall coverage of the Old Firm and journalists who can't even distinguish the difference between Saint Johnstone and ICT fans at games. Absolutely pathetic.
  3. Blimey, what were the chances of that?
  4. That's what Rangers said!
  5. Here's the highlights of the Celtic game c/w Murd Urquhart's challenge on McGrain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SJQPq5u0v8
  6. The one and only boast that County have over us is the fact that they have reached the final of the Scottish Cup and we have not. This season presents the perfect opportunity to put that right.....and, for that matter, go one better...
  7. Berwick/ Spartans at home would be ideal but, at this stage, with such an open draw, anyone bar Dundee United or Celtic. Perfect, in fact, if they were pitched against one another,
  8. Last year we had the distraction of a cup final 7 days later, united didn't, we also had a mid week game to squeeze in too.
  9. Indeed a great match and the atmosphere was electric. Even now it is still up there among the best games I have been to for atmosphere (and the right result): 1. Liverpool 5 Alves 4 (2001, Westfalenstadion, Dortmund) 2. Inverness Thistle 3 Kilmarnock 0 (1985, Kingsmills Park, Inverness) 3. Portugal 2 England 2 (pens 6-5) (2004, Estadio da Luz, Lisbon) Here's hoping we get a Scottish Cup Final game that can challenge those :-)

Let's face it....Sportscene is a total embarrassment of a programme, regardless of the team you support.
  11. According to blog site trivia Dundee Utd will now play Celtic on three consecutive weekends in three different competitions at three different venues
  12. Who cares about the BBC. We have to plan for Raith.
  13. 2 points
I did notice on the Sportscene sunday night programme they showed highlights of Saturdays game and then proceeded to talk about what a difference Lyle Taylor will make to Partick Thistle. Because as Saturday shows Partick are frustratingly inconsistent. I'm not saying they should go overboard about us, but to be fair we are only 3 points behind Aberdeen and level with Dundee United who are both regarded as having amazing seasons playing great football. Just being acknowledged that we've been as good as both those sides this season would be nice. Its not like its just been a phase, theres only 3 months to go.
  14. The pedant in me can't resist pointing out that the only team in the draw which is not a SPFL team is Spartans.
  15. 2 points
To quote "Narey's toepoker" on twitter, ICTFC have played three games in this years scottish cup. The sum total for all the highlights put together? 5 minutes 10 seconds. Typical BBC Glasgow.
  16. 2 points
It's disgraceful that fans are being left to speculate on this and there's complete silence from the club.
  17. 2 points
I counted it at 1:45 out of 5:25 in the, "by the way, these teams were also playing today.", round up video. Still it is more than we got in the last round, and who knows, if we make the final they may even show that live
  18. Legendary stuff! That's the first time I've actually seen that famous altercation between Murd and McGrain - who should have had a straight red in my view. But at Celtic Park? Not a chance! By pure coincidence, in this week's Highland News I will be remembering with affection the great Scottish Cup campaigns of that decade before ICT came into being. Apart from Jags beating Kilmarnock and playing at Celtic Park we had Caley beating Airdrie, Clyde, Stenhousemuir, Stirling Albion, Berwick and playing Rangers, Hearts, St Johnstone and St Mirren. Correct me if I am wrong, but did all that lot not take place between 1984 and 1992? These were great days for Inverness football at a time when Bobby Wilson's Ross County also had some great results.
  19. Scoring four against Liverpool is quite an achievement for a team from a Morayshire village stuck there between Elgin and Forres.

I'm not much into the various "zillions" but we do have the same answer because I get (to five significant figures) 1.2576 x (10 to the 22) or 12576000000000000000000 different permutations. Put in different terms, that's about 1800000000000 times the population of the earth, or alternatively, roughly the number of "air" molecules in an "empty" beer can. But that's only the odds against that particular set of matches. If you want them to come out in a particular order, you have to multiply by a further 16! (factorial 16) which is 2.09 x (10 to the 13) or 20900000000000. That gives 2.63 x (10 to the 35) or 38 million million millon millon times the population of the earth, or quarter of a million times as many molecules as are contained in the earth's entire stock of sea water! Did I ever teach you? And have we gone off topic?
  21. I don't get to many games now-a-days with staying in Glasgow and playing Saturday morning footie as well as the 101 other things going on at the minute but managed to make Hamilton and last Saturday's game so delighted to see 2 important wins back to back. I thought we were superb the first half ... mainly due to the running with and without the ball by Watkins. At the end of the game one of the boys I was with said he reminded him of when we had Rooney and I can definitely see where he was coming from. He stood up to everything from 2 physical centre halves and won the ball in the air on more than one occasion .. when the ball went long he outpaced both defenders when running the channels. He might not ever be as good a finisher as McKay is and it will take a while for him to learn when to hold on to the ball and give the team a breather, but he is definitely a threat and I can't see any defenders enjoying having to mark him. As IHE said, Draper was superb throughout and bossed the midfield. Ross is pure class and I'd love to see how he'd do with those Sky statistic things for his pass completion because he must be up there with the best of them, always wants the ball no matter how tight he is marked and hardly ever gives it away. I don't think replays give Tansey's goal the justice it deserves, especially the shitey Sportscene coverage. What a goal! Good enough to win any match .. Considering that was Esson's first game in sticks for feck knows how long he didn't put a foot/glove wrong and would edge my MOTM just because he couldn't have done any better than what he did - perfect performance. I don't think it was a foul for their goal.. Meekings just misjudged the flight of the ball and should have been stronger but apart from that a very professional performance in a game I had absolutely no confidence we would win beforehand. Only moan... fans chanting "we want Fergie on!" or "we want Christie on!" .. just let Yogi do his job, he's done not bad so far, and if Ferguson's as good as everyone seems to think he is then he'll get his chance but he has done absolutely hee haw to merit the hype he is getting... it's just going to add unnecessary pressure for him when he does get a game.
  22. All is not lost!!! I thought Watkins was absolutely superb in the first half against Partick. He missed a cpl of sitters but it is all about getting in the right positions as a striker and he could have easily bagged a hattrick on a better day. First time I've seen him play up top and he had much more physical presence than McKay and won a few headers, which McKay wouldn't have.... even when the ball was played long to him you could see their defenders didn't know whether to get tight or stand off him. He was buckled in the second half but his fitness will get better the more he plays and when he learns not to chase lost causes. Don't get me wrong, we still need a striker [we needed one in before Billy left] but Watkins never looked like a winger playing in a foreign position, he looked comfortable and will only get better the more he plays there.
  23. A really bad shout on my part that day! I decided that Thistle didn't have a snowball's so went to watch a cross country race in Forres instead. I was coming back up Kingsmills road just as the crowd were coming out of the game. I would my window down and asked a Jaggie the score. "3-0" "Oh well, never mind lads. There's always next yea!" "3-0 FOR THISTLE!!"
  24. Typical feckin Jeggie - raises hopes and expectations and ends in a false feckin dawn
  25. Blimey, what were the chances of that? 1/1680 - the same as any other draw!
  26. Blimey, what were the chances of that? ....and hopefully the opportunity for a decent crowd as we try and make it Scottish Cup semi-final #3....
  27. ....BBC will be delighted - another opportunity to kick coverage of our game into the long grass and concentrate on the DUFC/Celtic and Hibs/spartans (or Berwick) games
  28. Very happy with that. No room to be complacent but play to our potential and the semi final beckons and then the dream is on.
  29. I'd be happy with an awayday at Easter Road. Spartans would be good - Ainslie Park is a great wee ground and the pies are top notch.
  30. Loving this thread. Watched the youtube Celtic-Thistle highlights a couple of times in recent weeks. Was at that Killie game myself, a little kid excited at the prospect of Thistle taking on a big Scottish team. Archie MacPherson's somewhat patronising analysis should come with a health warning though. Was going to say changed days. Yes, Inverness football has changed but central belt ignorance hasn't! lol
  31. Well G'mans Goalgetters improved form continues as they clock up their 4th win -keep paying attention to your team each week and see how close you can get to those above. 32. Shocking news for Naelifts - I was actually the driver that night. That means Wanderer and Dougie were 2 more as they were definitely in the car. According to Broadfoot it was 11/3/03 which tallies as I was shouting at Hissy to swing on the bar, just as he had done in our 2-0 dismantling of County 3 days before. It was also the night the Duckman legend was born.
  33. Ah fond memories...and,despite the result, also of the next round at Parkhead complete with Murd Urquhart's 'assault' on Danny McGrain after he had the temerity to take out the legend that was Alastair ' Titchy' Black....
  34. Billy has missed a shed load of similar chances to Marley. Billy was not good one on one. Marley worked massively hard against Partick. Billy was latterly a very hard worker. Marley's pace caused Partick hell. Billy was no where near as fast. Marley won a lot of headers. Billy is shorter than him and won less headers. Marley demonstrated some amazing close control against Partick. Like Billy he ran himself into the ground but I suspect he covered a lot more ground than Billy did in his second year with the club. Expect Marley to get a Wales call up if he keeps scoring. Yogi would have been delighted with Marley's performance and in the weeks ahead will work with him to improve his goal return. I suspect Danny Devine has been winding Gary up to get booked more often!! His 6 minutes or so substitute appearance probably did his confidence a lot of good after months of patience on the bench. Out of interest, who was the second 'lunatic' doing cartwheels with Gary behind Greg for the post match video!! Yogi has clearly drummed it into the players 'do as I say, not as I did!!!'

Those highlights were an embarrassment. And BTW BBC, Billy Mckay didn't leave in midweek, but why let the truth get in the way when you can obsess over the ibrox train wreck instead.

If that is in fact the case then Richie's injury must have been a bad one.. much more serious than anybody might be willing to admit. When it involves ligaments or such, which don't have their own blood supply but absorb nutrients by osmosis, then it's always going to be a race against time. And then depression sets in, followed by premature attempts to come back too quickly when you start to feel less pain. Unless Richie has had a really top class surgeon who worked on him then it's very possible that he will feel the effects of this injury for many many years. All we can do is wish him the very best of luck and hope his recovery now is swift.

Now that Rangers are out, the BBC probably won't cover the rest of the competition.

Smile and wave boys, smile and wave! Maybe they'll pixelate ICT players out in the final to make sure we don't get too much exposure....
  41. collum has improved- well for that match at least However warren was booked for sure but it appeared to be for dissent It's strange - but none of the 'usual' football reporting outlets have noted a booking for Warren. BBC, SKY, Soccerway, SoccerBase etc. But these 'sources' often get their stats from the same agency, so if one's wrong, they'll all be wrong! It could be important later on, when a player can miss a big game due to earlier bookings. Was defo booked unfortunately.

It's on SKY Sports News - which I don't have! I was gutted when they took it off Freeview. I agree, it would have been much better doing the draw after the Rangers-Raith game this afternoon. Everybody is buzzing for the draw with the Cup so wide open. There's also a real geographical spread in the last 8. 1 x North = Inverness 1 x Central Scotland = Falkirk 1 x South = Queen of the South 1 x Glasgow = Celtic 1 x Edinburgh = Hibernian 1 x Dundee = Dundee United 1 x England (!) = Berwick (probably) 1 x Fife = Raith (I hope!!!)
  43. Well in preparation for the next Highland March some of the faithful Sneck footsoldiers trudged the Munros prior to the game. OK so it was the Munro Bar of 185 Great Western Road but there was a picture on the wall on the arduous trip to the basement toilets. And then we soldiered on to Firhill and amongst a very healthy travelling support we enjoyed some success in Maryhill (my FIRST watching win there !!). And nice to see some old faces in the crowd and such a child friendly atmosphere – no barking dogs or seals, no paedo or big nose chants although there may have been some truth in the rumour that Ryan Stevenson was pregnant. To the game – a game of two halves or probably two quarters and a half. As I suspected Yogi had wound them up to the hilt in a pre-match “forget wee Billy” address. They came out of the traps like greyhounds on heat and nearly caught the feckin stuffed rabbit at the first corner. We completely and utterly dominated the first 20-25 minutes and sailed through the remainder of the half. Just before the quarter hour MARLEY WATKINS should have opened the account but fluffed the finish. MARLEY was not to be denied and slotted in a well taken finish hardly a minute later. It was however fashioned by the very impressive ROSS DRAPER. Thistle defender Stephen O'Donnell played a terrible to pass to Abdul Osman in the middle of the park who was robbed by our feisty Ross The ball fell to Marley who held off Frederic Frans before clipping it low past Gaylord Gallacher to put us 1-0 up. Moments later Watkins was one-on-one again after Nick Ross sent him away but this time his low effort slid inches past the post. Now at this point we should have been 3-0 up and before the inevitable comment of “But if wee Billy was there he would have socred a hat trick” – NOT – Watkins may not be, and sorry never will be a centre forward, but he fashioned the chances through strength and pace. Wee Billy would not have got himself in those positions. And then I recalled our pervious league visit to Firhill when we cruised for 20 minutes, went 1-0 up and then imploded and left 1-3. There was a slight PTSD feeling but that was well and truly therapised by GREG TANSEY and what has to be a major contender for Goal of the Season. Good old O'Donnell again lost possession in midfield and Greg Tansey picked the ball up 30 yards from goal. Tansey advanced forward, like a modern day Archie Gemmill, shimmied past Frans like a Scouse ballerina and struck a superb right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner of Gaylord’s. We then unfortunately settled a bit – or were fecked in all truth – but still played some neat and tidy possession football which had Thistle chasing shadows. And then came the second half, possibly as long a second half as I have witnessed in a long time. Thistle came out like a bunch of Taz’s and our back four must have felt that they were starring in a remake of the Alamo. To be fair they stood firm – too feckin deep for my liking – but Warren and Meekings were IMMENSE and there was a true Churchillian feel to the determination – ably abetted by one RYAN ESSON. He first produced a fine diving save on the hour to deny Stuart Bannigan. His handling was awry at times but he is more than a capable stand in fer Deano Taylor then threw the Jags a massive lifeline – and got a MOM from the home support fer it !! -when he latched on to O'Donnell's long ball over the top and he appeared to out-muscle Gary Warren, who vehemently claimed his shirt was tugged. Need to see that again but ANOTHER stoopid yellow card to add to Gary’s collection. The Alamo then joined forces with the Mafeking. It was boering and nerve tingling to watch but we deservedly survived. And thanks for that go to RYAN ESSON who produced a “world class save” in the 90th minute with a superb diving save to earn us a place in Monday's draw. Hopefully away to Berwick or the Doonhammers. After Hamilton I agreed with everything that Yogi said after the game – this week 80% - "On our first half performance it would have been an injustice had we not won the football match," said the Inverness boss. Some of the stuff we played in the first half, it was real good stuff. Dominated the game and should have been two or three goals up. That's my only disappointment, no-one in the second half was brave enough to get on the ball, two or three passes, and take the sting out of the game.” Yogi – we put too much energy needlessly into the first half. Marley, Vincent and Williams were tireless and have to be lauded for their overall performances but they looked like headless feckin chickens at times. They all looked fit to drop near the end. SMILEYMOMETER ESSON Wish he could play centre forward - Deserved a clean sheet. RAVEN As solid as steady and as reliable as ever - Rave On. SHINNIE Back where he belongs as a marauding wing back WARREN Colossus at the back but still has that occasional lapse of concentration and picked up yet another absolutely needless booking. MEEKINGS If that display does not merit an improved contract ? VINCENT 110 % - ran and hustled all day long but could never keep up that work rate week by week. TANSEY Coolness personified - Glides gracefully through a game and his partnership with Draper is close to the best in Scotland at the moment. DRAPER MOfeckinM by a country feckin mile WILLIAMS 110 % - ran and hustled all day long but could never keep up that work rate week by week ROSS Another that can not be faulted for the effort but he is NOT an "in the hole" player. WATKINS Never was, never is and never will be a centre forward and needs to be reined in by an old head and taught the wisdom of movement. Thistle sussed him out eventually but did he put the willies up em with his pace and strength. May be a harsh criticism but too much movement as he will knacker himself fer the rest of the season. In conclusion only two words of advice fer Yogi - James Dean
  44. In order to win it, one must first to get to the semi. i don't think i said anything about losing there!
  45. would not be wanting QOS at Palmerston ... that is always a tough tie !
  46. Fantastic win, against our bogey team. Feel a bit of a tw@t for sticking a few bob on Partick, but I'm a happy tw@t.
  47. Are you sure ????? He's only got one leg. He must hop like the wind.
