It's ridiculous that we've got ourselves into this situation. Only a year after our greatest ever season the board and manager having a playground spat. One thing I do want to say on this is that the same thing happened with Yogi at Falkirk. He eventually bullied the board into giving him a much higher budget and it ended in disaster. The signings didn't pay off and the club almost ended up in administration. I don't want want that to happen to us so if the manager can't work within the prescribed budget there's only 1 solution.

A cup win, missing out on another by a penalty shoot-out, Europe, 3rd place, two top six finishes, a 7th place finish despite terrible injury problems. With a resume like that it should never have ended like this. Sad, but probably for the best.

Thing with Hughes is after last seasons success if he had built on that, and kept that fans, and more importantly the chairman, on side and not made the silly comments he has made he could have been forgiven a hell of a lot. He decided to go and alienate that fans and the Chairman. We as fans know we have no god given right to success, trophies etc but we also dont want our own manager talking the club down in public, and that in my eyes is Hughes biggest mistake. We know we are small, we know we have one of the smallest player budgets in the leaugue, he doesnt need to remind us everytime he opens his mouth

Sorry but I dont know how you can make that out. We have progressed year on year since 1994 and are still progressing. Indeed I feel it is progressive of the board to take the stance they are taking. Yes its going to cost us to remove the manager but we can't continue with someone who continually bad mouths our financial position. Yogi would have been made well aware of our budget constraints before he put pen to paper the first time and would have seen for himself the constraints before signing an extension. Which brings the cynic out in me. Is he really a secret agent for CFC who have sent him on a secret mission to destroy the club that they despise even more than tRFC? If Yogi fails in his mission will Pearse Brosnon suddenly appear as a football manager at TCS
  6. 8 points
Get real FFS. Press story initially came from fan speculation on social media along with Yogi's persistent complaining about budgets. This guy knew the financial situation at the club before he signed and he witnessed it for himself before he signed an extension. So do you think the club should do what happened at Falkirk? Give in to Yogi's demands, increase overdrafts and borrow beyond our means. Great way to go...administration.....liquidation and death. This club already pays out around 75% of its income on salaries. With a turnover of just over £4 mill that doesn't leave a great deal for all the other costs associated with running a club and financing 19/20 matchdays a year.

If someone had told me at the start of this season that John Hughes was leaving the club, i would disappointed. Clearly a good coach and knows how to get the players going and motivated(more so at half time). Today hearing the news that he could be on this way out, could not be more happy. Throughout this season listening to all his post match interviews saying "we were the better team" when we had more possession but did **** all attacking, comments in media about lossing players to other teams but yet talking up Danny and James to Dundee "I would happily pay for his taxi to Dundee". Leaving David Raven out of right back because he has his own personal problems with him, when he can clearly see every single fan wants him their. What's John Hughes problem with him? As fans we want to see attacking Football not see who can keep the ball in their own half the longest. John Hughes recruitment this season has been terrible, his football has been slow and his comments in the media have annoyed fans and more importantly the players. He clearly doesn't want to be at our club and we don't want him here either, would of been a disaster keeping him here another year in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing the candidates for his replacement sooner the better.

Hoping that Falkirk lose the play-off final now, as I'd like to get Peter Houston in and can't imagine he'd be overly keen on another year in the Championship.
  9. 6 points
Have to thank Hughes for all he has done, but have to say that on many occasions I found the style of play very boring very few attempts at goal. So now to get ready for a new chapter hopefully we get someone who promotes attacking football and I suppose we are losing the manager at the right time giving the new manager a pre season with the players
  10. 5 points
There will be plenty of interest in our new managers job and I'm sure it's not only me who is excited awaiting to see who is interested. We have turned a page in our story and another chapter is about to begin P's onwards and upwards!
  11. 5 points
If we are getting someone new in then let's hope they have some good contacts. Because we are way short on numbers. People mulling over contracts, apparent pre-contract negotiations with others, players released who might have now stayed, players staying who might well have been released. Its an absolute shambles of a situation and no-one involved should be holding their head high over this.
  12. 5 points
When our new manager is appointed he won't have far to look for first signing.

Compensation for sacking him was the last thing we needed to fork out, but his position was untenable. Thank you Yogi for the most successful year in the club's history! In hindsight, it would have been best if he'd left at the top, immediately after the cup win, but it unfortunately went to his head. The United fiasco was the beginning of the end. Anybody who's prefer to be at another club should be shown the door. The next issue was the accusation that players weren't man enough to play through injuries; then the Raven spat and the open criticism of the board, not to mention his love affair with all things Celtic. No doubt, Hughes will believe that he'll go on to bigger and better things. He won't. For us, there's the who next question. I'm concerned that the compo might force us to go with Foran. I'd prefer to see him as assistant, but we might have to cut our cloth. Does anyone have Raven's number??! Thanks for the memories, JH: Time for the club to move on!

As long as he gets a new contract with us.

Shrewd move from the board IMO. Our success in recent years is entirely down to the talent and hard work of our players. The best group we've ever had. Even Craig Brewster would have struggled to feck things up with such quality at his disposal. I have faith in the players. If they aren't happy, as indications suggest, there's no contest. The manager has to go.
  16. 4 points
Indeed. Almost sounds like a cunning plan to exit with a payoff.
  17. 4 points
Eh? The board have given the management team the biggest budget ever and broke into a rainy day fund to try and ease the injury crisis. It was Yogi who spent most of the time moaning about it and spending it on dross like Liam Hughes.

    David Raven for manager?
  19. 3 points
Back four of Tremarco Warren Meekings and Raven, Tansey and Draper in front. Polworth attacking midfield. Goalie tbc.+ only a few more to make a team. Almost a Royal flush.
  20. 3 points
Saw an interview with him a few months ago as he tries to get into management, not sure if Russell Latapy would be interested in coming back. Certainly would know the club and players. His leaving always seemed a bit strange, I thought at the time it seemed Hughes was creating space for his pal Rice. Was just as big a part of our most successful spell.
  21. 3 points
On reflection we should have dumped him when he showed more than a passing interest in the Dee Utd job. It showed that he had eyes elsewhere, which I'm sure made the players think.
  22. 2 points
Butcher took Foran here because he needed a real winner on the park so he might prove to be a winner as a boss as well. I know it's the cheap option but if we need cash for players it might give the board a way out of this mess
  23. 2 points
If only half the Fans that attended Hampden were to attend every Home game then we would not have a problem with a playing Budget
  24. 2 points
I don't intend to argue with one who thinks he is so up to speed with everything but I would ask one question: If we can afford to pay compensation to our most successful manager and then pay a salary to a new manager, why do we have a problem with the playing budget. Your answer would be appreciated learned one.
  25. 2 points
Sorry, I should have said player/manager.
  26. 2 points
Plenty of options out there, just a case of finding the right fit.

It's definitely IHE's turn and I am not settling for anything less!
  28. 2 points
In terms of rebuilding, scouting, contacts etc. I think Stuart McCall would be the best fit. I think he can be a bit defensively minded though.

One positive on a pretty shambolic week for the Club, thumbs up for the loyalty reduction on Season Tickets.

To be honest not sure how much credit the Board can take. We are where we are, due to astute Managers scouting players from the likes of Kidderminster, Stockport, Luton etc and galvanising them into very good teams. No transfer fees have been paid, no massive cash injections from the board, everything has been done on a shoestring.
  31. 2 points
What a ridiculous mess we find ourselves in. Yogi has made mistakes bringing players in I agree , but a worse manager than Christie ? What are you on. The board are also not blameless. We had a chance to lose yogi and get compensation from Dundee Utd. But no, we get him to sign a new 2 and a half year deal which we want to buy him out of after 6 months. I'm not saying we are, but we certainly appear to be totally amateur behind the scenes.
  32. 2 points
You're right about the hindsight. At the time we were all applauding the chairman for having the cojones to stand up to Thompson. We would have been calling him weak if he hadn't.
  33. 2 points
Having read a lot of your posts on various threads it's fair to say I don't agree with them but then everyone is allowed their opinion. Lets get right down to it and ask the vital question - Are you John Hughes in disguise?
  34. I would like another boring Scot cup win and trip in Europe
  35. 2 points
Yes, I agree that the Dundee Utd approach for Hughes appears to have been the 'beginning of the end'. In hindsight we would have been far better off letting him go with some compensation, rather than where we are now having to pay him off.
  36. 2 points
we need new boss who can tell his team to kick the ball forward instead of passing the ball back all the time

i just cant get my head round where Yogi is coming from, surely he knew the budget before he signed his contract, so to them come out and complain seems stupid. He made his position untenable at that point

Maybe the Board, should also take a long hard look at themselves, hardly driven the club forward have they ?
  41. Just posted a blog entry with a Player of the Year update. With 3 games to go any one of five different players can still be the CTO - POY for 2015/16
  42. 1 point
A big big mistake if this was to happen. We need an experienced dynamic manager who will be able to get the best out of a small squad; and hit the ground running from the first game of the season - not asking much ehhhh.
  43. 1 point
Not my choice. He'd need a good assistant for it to be a success. Promoting someone to manage players he previously played alongside isn't always a good idea either, in any job for that matter.
  44. 1 point
Agree totally. To be honest, I will not lose much sleep if JH goes but he has a point when he says the supporters deserve better. We cant keep rebuilding season after season and expect the fans to keep buying into it. We need to manage our assets better and that is down to the Board to come up with a contingency plan, as you would expect in any line of business.
  45. 1 point
I didn't expect you to 'give a toss' - it's a free forum so we're all entitled to say what we want within reason and without getting personal. Watch though because you might just start to sound like an Arsenal fan who measures their progress and achievements on whether or not they out-do Tottenham. If your only concern is being left behind Ross County then I suggest you take a look at what you want our club to achieve because I for one want to finish as high up every season as we can above as many other teams as we can and not just Ross County. You're probably entitled to feel aggrieved by the actions of the board or how you perceive their actions to be however just remember that no one person is bigger than a club and in the clubs 22 years of excistance since 1994 I think the board has done a pretty fine job in getting us to where we are today.
  46. 1 point
Sorry to say it, but we already are! They finished one place above us and won the league cup last year. On top of that, they have a very settled squad for the next couple of years, not to mention old megabucks pumping money into the club. I expect them to finish 5/6th next year, whereas our future is now very uncertain.

Agree however the fatal mistake that Hughes made was going public. I'm almost certain that Butcher and Cameron and other managers before will have had arguments but they were kept in house. For some reason Hughes chose to berate the club in public and I can't imagine that will have gone down well.
