  1. In what form? I accept it’s a results based industry (entertainment wise). However I would like to think we would take the time to avoid going down the same road as we have travelled over the past decade and more recently where the club has been used (or misused if you like), to gamble the future existence of the club to enrich certain individuals with almost complete disregard for the club place in the city and their fans. I would ideally like to slowly return to being a club with the heart of the city, region and fans at its centre!

  2. Best of luck to the team today in their cup game against Annan Athletic. There are so many worries just now, but at the centre of it all are a group of players who just want to play football, so get out there boys and Gie It Laldy today. C'mon Caley

  3. Newman *** Rarely tested but looked solid. Strachan *** Looked raw and needed support of those around him. Not scared of going forward, Davidson **** Huge improvement in what I have seen before. Devine **** Gawd do we need to keep him fit Savage **** Appears to have become some fans boo-boy. On today's performance totally undeserved. Always in space and looking to go forward. McLeod ***** MOM - first time I have seen him and very, very impressed - Roddy MacGregor + Gilmour ****Solid as ever Bray *** Some great touches and full of energy but may be better utilised centrally. Longstaff *** Ran and ran, some great touches - so left footed - play him wider left. McKay ** Sorry but he was the weak link today. NOT a forward any more. Our Harry Kane !! 20 30 minute man. Brooks *** Plenty of pace and energy, Could/should have had a hat trick. Needs big man up beside him, Now if we had Goss we would have options and walked it. Ref was poor and allowed too many fouls to go unpunished. Positives - I attended in the belief that this report would be a total slagging. We were the better team, we played the better football and we did not deserve to be beaten, We were quicker going forward, we tried to use width, we tried to hit the bye line. Some of the forward thinking 1-2 touch football was a joy to watch. We worked for 90 minutes. We looked solid at the back. Negatives - Oh jeez many of our final balls and finishing was shocking. OK we made the chances but blew them all. There were a number of occasions when we played the ball back when there was a forward ball. Some of our support are still in the boo-boy category and lets get rid of the dynasty but lets support those on the field - including Dunc. I bet there will not be many of the blindfolded agreeing with this report. On reflection I actually did want this to be a slagging, ended up pis*ed of with score BUT encouraged by the performance.

  4. Board Director Panos Thomas has been quoted by the Courier saying “Directors are working tirelessly to attract new investment in the club. Indeed, there has been welcome interest and I would ask everyone for their patience as we progress matters.” I wonder if this sudden breaking of the silence is to dampen down expectation following what Ferguson said at his pre-match press conference. Thomas's words don't exactly suggest any kind of deal is imminent. Indeed they don't even imply there are any meaningful discussions going on at all. He then said, “We are delighted to see youth being given a chance with several Academy players featuring in the squad and we are confident the team is ready to face the first challenge with focus and commitment." Yeah, right! This from a Director of the same Board who only recently were "delighted" to announce a move of our training base to Kelty. This move would have virtually disenfranchised our Academy players unless they were willing to move away from their families and friends and relocate in Fife. And this far reaching decision was made without any discussion with those who it would most affect. Thomas goes on to say, “Invaluable will be the support of our loyal fans, including those who will be travelling to Annan tomorrow, and everyone else in the extended family of the club throughout the season. We need you to stay with us as we strive to improve the financial stability of the club.” I will certainly stay with the team and support our local youngsters, but no Panos, I am not going to stay with you and your colleagues after all you have done to tear apart the "extended family of the club". The financial stability of the club will improve when those responsible for the current instability are out of the door.

  6. Don't forget friends, Last season we had a honking league cup start to the season with only a win vs Bonnyrigg and Defeats from Dundee, Dumbarton and Airdrie! And with a lot of better players than i feel we have now. So losing League cup games is quite the norm for us, In fact if you look back the stats we fail to qualify on a frequent basis, Now i'm not saying we should accept today's result with a shrug of the shoulders and think that it's just us, But once again its the worrying trend of poor conversion of chances to goals. I'll be going along next Saturday to the game and hope that this bunch can click and give us hope for this season.

  7. You mean local talent like Ridgers and McGregor? Duncan didn't even bother phoning them, never mind trying to persuade them to wait for this definite slew of cash that's a couple of weeks away. I had little faith in him when he arrived, given his record, and zero now he has demonstrated his lack of appraisal talent, negative tactics and people mismanagement skills.

  8. Ferguson has said we will build from the back, so the tactics will be the same. However, with our youngsters, whilst we must accept that they will make mistakes in games, there is plenty enthusiasm and pace. We should play to our strengths and, from what I saw in the Clach and Nairn games, that’s using the pace of guys like Bray, Thompson, Mackay and Brooks to stretch teams and make space that we can exploit. We need to play to the strengths our players have, not try to fit them into a system that doesn’t suit them. I look forward to hearing the post match views of those who have travelled all the way to Annan, and hope they have an enjoyable day.

  9. Into the Unknown It's a journey into unchartered waters as the rebooted Caley Jags travel to Galabank Stadium, Annan, for the first competitive game of season 2024/2025. It's going to be a difficult season for pennyless Inverness unless a wealthy benefactor appears out of the Highland mist or the Battery Farm Project takes a massive U turn. I'm no holding my breath for a quick decision on either happening anytime soon. As they say around here, it is what it is, but it beats training at Kelty and and being dictated to by the very people who are responsible for the situation we find ourselves in. We will try and concentrate on events on the field and keep our fingers crossed that a resolution can be sought for the off-field issues. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket Info Panos pleads for patience ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First Competitive Meeting Jan 24th, 1998 Scottish Cup (Rd 3) (H) 8 - 1 We have only met twice in competitive games with both ending in resounding wins for the Caley Jags. Last meeting was in 2009 though and Annan have bedded themselves in to the Leagues well. However, given our current demise I would imagine Annan will be feeling confident about this one as Ferguson has little to choose from since our financial demise and mismanagement. This was Ian Broadfoot's report from the first meeting in 1998: 8 - 1 The home side demolished a determined Annan side after an early fright. A loose ball found Norman Montgomery clear inside the Inverness half and he lobbed the ball over Jim Calder. Caley Thistle stormed upfield and scored 3 goals in a 6 minute spell. In 16 minutes Barry Wilson was set up by Iain Stewart just inside the area and he drove the ball low past Robert McColm. Three minutes later Brian Thomson slipped it to Stewart on the 18 yard line and he sent a low ball past the keeper. On the 20 minute mark Thomson was fouled just outside the box. He took the kick himself and sent it into the top corner. A fourth goal came in the 38th minute. Thomson and Stewart set up Barry Robson down the right and he headed straight for goal. Under strong pressure Robson hit it home. In 55 minutes Mark McCulloch cleared upfield from the half-way line and found Stewart who ran through the defence and slipped it to the side of the keeper he unselfishly sent it across to Thomson who only had to tap it in. In 74 minutes it was 6-1. A Vetle Andersen cross from the left went in off the head of defender Stanley Leslie. 10 minutes later Wilson got the seventh with a low drive from 15 yards and with 4 minutes left substitute Duncan Shearer rose above the Annan defence on the penalty spot and headed in an Andersen cross to complete the 8-1 record score. Annan's bad tempered tackling was finally punished in 86 minutes when Stanley Leslie was sent off. Max Kilsby and Ryan Muir are signed on again. Loans in: Jamie Smith (GK Hamilton Academical). Who to look out for: Striker Aidan Smith became the clubs leading SPFL goalscorer last season when he passed Peter Weathersons goal total. His great work ethic and attacking running has seen him become the first name on the managers team sheet. The lively, left sided attacker started his career at Queen of the South before moving to Annan then onto Peterhead FC. Striker Tommy Goss joined the club from Queen of the South in the summer of 2021 and has become a firm fans favourite. The 6ft 4″ striker grabbed 28 goals last season and became the clubs record scorer for goals scored in a single SPFL season. A man with a wealth of experience at hailing taxis, Paul McGowan joined Dundee in June 2014 and became a mainstay and a key player for the side throughout his 9-year tenure there, making over 300 appearances for the Dark Blues. He joined Dunfermline Athletic on loan in 2023 and won both the Scottish Championship and the Scottish League One in the same season. After leaving Dundee he then spent a season with Cove Rangers. Inverness CT: Much has been made about our plight, and the way the club has handled it. Danny Devine, Charlie Gilmour and Billy Mckay were the only big names not to be disconnected from the club. Add a couple who struggled for game time last season in Luis Longstaff, Adam Brooks and Jake Davidson and the rest of the squad is made up of fringe players and youths. Yes, that is the reality we are facing this season in League 1. It's going to be a long season methinks unless a miracle happens to come our way. Injuries are starting early this season and we have doubts over Billy Mckay, Danny Devine Robbie Thompson and Adam Brooks, so nothing new there.

  10. DWH, not having a pop at you but It’s been said by others on here that this season in league 1, survival would be success. The manager leading us to the championship this season I am afraid is pie in the sky. not sure what a manager can do with young players who may not be ready for this level. We will just have to wait until they hopefully mature, become better players and we get a few games out of them before they are picked off by other clubs. things may change of course if he gets a couple of quid to spend before the transfer window closes end of august. Maybe get an end of career player like cloughie did at derby when he bought Dave Mackay. “Probably the most imaginative, brilliant, inspired thing that Brian Clough ever did was to sign Dave Mackay for Derby County. Probably the most surprising thing that Dave Mackay ever did was in agreeing to join the Rams. The football world was astonished when the man who was already a football legend in two countries threw in his lot with Clough’s developing team at the Baseball Ground in July 1968.” a famous Scotsman once said you win nothing with kids. It’s up to ours to prove that wrong the way Neville, beckham, scoles, butt, giggs etc did. Obviously us at a lot lower level. today Falkirk beat Dundee Utd. St Johnstone scraped through against the mighty Brechin. East Fife pumped big spending Morton who have signed 9 new players including 2 or 3 of ours. Our stats from today’s game shows yet again where we fall down. When players cross the line, it’s out of the managers hands, players who train full time should at least be working the goalkeeper. 11. If we can get money to pay Ferguson's apparently ludicrous salary plus keep us full time, can we not find the money just to get rid of him?? He clearly is no manager and is much more likely to lead us into League 2 rather than the Championship....

  13. Its hard to gauge because he did mention a couple of signings being in the pipeline and that they'd be local based due to accommodation issue so does that mean loans from County or St J or does that hint at looking at players from the likes of Peterhead/Elgin or ones in the Highland League . I wasn't at all happy when it was announced that DF was staying but tbh I have come to accept that I will have to back him and that statement about local based players being in the pipeline has me more optimistic than ever that he is now coming to realise that there ARE good players in the Highland League capable of the step up!! We were advocating for loca players/our younger players to be given a shot so it's only fair that we acknowledge that DF has now taken our pleasure on board .

  14. Oh those memories I think it will be the same turgid football as last season simply because that’s the way Ferguson wants to play regardless of who we have in the team.

  15. What concerns me as well. If Ferguson does get more money for his budget are we going to end up with loanees like last season Kerr and Macallister were good but the rest you could have kept and didn’t avoid the inevitable relegation with his style of football. Time will tell I guess

  18. Thanks for the report IHE. You have summed the situation up perfectly. As fans we need to separate our thoughts about the club’s situation from how we feel about the players. The players need and deserve our full support and we need to understand that the younger ones may make mistakes whilst they will all be affected by the uncertainty at the club. I’d heard that Savage was a target at Brora so it’s disappointing to read that it was the same at Annan. He needs our support in the same way as the others do, but it’s good to hear he had a good game.

  23. Loanees from County. F me. Forget loanees let's have a team from Inverness and Highlands. A few tough seasons but build another community club. Get rid of the Fergusons and Dodds and Butchers and be back to the Tokely and McArthur and Stewart days. Local boys. The cream of the highland league. Build from there.

  27. No changes at the interval and we were very close to an equaliser two minutes into the second half as Adam Brooks saw his initial effort hit the post and the rebound fell to Calum MacLeod in the box. Alas, his effort came off the bar and Billy Mckay couldn't quite scramble the ball in. Meh! Keith Bray brought out a save from the keeper and Aidan Smith did likewise at the other end before being booked a minute later for a late tackle on Charlie Gilmour. The hosts continued to dish out the rough treatment and Quitongo was booked minutes later for being late on Bray. Brooks continued missing the target, shooting wide after the hour and he would be replaced by Robbie Thompson for the last twenty minutes. Thereafter a spate of substitutions and one of them, Calum Mackay, had an effort saved by Jamie Smith. A late header by Ferguson never troubled the keeper and it was defeat in our opening match. FT: 1-0

  28. H/T report Inverness got the season underway on the 3G surface as captain Billy Mckay sets the ball rolling. Annan were first to threaten through Aidan Smith who saw Keeper Jack Newman save low to his left after eight minutes. Adam Brooks had our first effort after being fed through on goal but shot just wide five minutes later. Annan opened the scoring in the 21st minute through a Tommy Goss header. Brooks was denied from outside the box as Jamie Smith saved his effort on the half hour and following a corner Aidan Smith's header from a tight angle was denied by Newman with a super save. Billy Mckay shot over ten minutes before the break as the visitors looked to draw level before the interval. Brooks again missed the target shooting over after a lengthy injury break for Jake Davidson. Possession was even over the first 45 but it's the hosts that have the one goal advantage.

  30. Right, lets give this ago again this season. Just one change to the rules regarding the Crowd Section. The BBC seemed to have lost their abacus towards the end of last season so I'm putting them in the bin alongside the ICT board. I'll be using the crowd figure as quoted on the SPFL web site. Will see how it goes. So, onwards to season 2024/25 - I have a title to defend. 32. It’ll be interesting to see if today heralds the start of an exciting new era of a team rebuilt on youth, or whether we see the same turgid football as last season and find out that Ferguson had been right to shun the youngsters.

  33. Indeed, but it helps with an awful lot of things! We need to be better run AND to have more money. With more money we don’t need to offload good players, we can sign more players/ better players, we can afford to pay off the manager, we can afford to pay off the CEO, we can improve facilities, we can afford to pay for players’ operations and so on.

  35. Maybe, but this is just a temporary state of affairs. Being a fan is a lifetime commitment and we all took the vows - for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health! Everything is bad just now, and it might all get even worse for a while when we are getting pumped by the likes of Annan and Kelty, but we will bounce back, on and off the pitch.

  36. I wish he had walked! I'll back the team but I can't back a manager that got us relegated, playing some of the most boring football I've ever had to endure, and paid handsomely for it! What a waste of money!
    1 point
  37. And we've no idea why. In seasons past our former managers have talked about how they had to let players know they weren't being kept on. Ferguson meanwhile, after our embarrassing relegation, was MIA for weeks before resurfacing again suggesting that he didn't have any (face to face) communication with players who were out of contract. With every passing day I find myself less and less likely to ever want to go to an ICT game again. What has happened to the club that I would previously do anything to support? It's unrecognisable now run by a bunch of charlatans who don't give a f'ck about the club, players or fans.
    1 point
  38. It wasn't just Aaron Doran though. None of the players were contacted by their manager when their contracts were running down. It happened at a place I worked and, although I can't be certain, I'm pretty sure that contributed to that awful people manager leaving. It's not just a football thing, it's an ability to manage.

  39. Ferguson's thought's dominate the back page of todays "Courier" too. The interesting thing for me is that he refers on a couple of occasions to a "new owner". The current "owners" of the club are the shareholders. I don't know whether Ferguson is simply using the word "owner" loosely to mean someone who is going to put significant money into the club and who would head up a new Board, or whether the new money is conditional on the investor becoming a majority shareholder. The first scenario would be a very welcome development but the 2nd option would represent a major change of business structure for the club and would, I assume, require approval of the existing shareholders. It would appear that nobody at the press conference picked him up on this point. It would be good to get some clarification. It was good that someone asked him about Aaron Doran. I accept that the decisions taken may be down to the club, but I don't accept that he can brush away accountability so easily. As team manager, he has a very clear role in terms of communicating with his players and discussing issues which impact on their careers.

  41. More flannel than a Lumberjacks' convention..... Duncan Ferguson hopes for Caley Thistle investment ‘within weeks’ The Inverness manager needs funds to add new faces as his team get set for their long Annan trip in the Premier Sports Cup. Duncan Ferguson is confident fresh investment will come Caley Thistle’s way in a matter of weeks as the club gears up for the start of the season on Saturday. Amid a summer of turmoil at the Highland club, which was relegated from the Championship in May, the push for a new owner has dominated the past few weeks. The threat of administration for ICT, which has just posted a £588,000 loss for last year, was soothed by the board saying investment talks were positive almost one month ago. While fans have been waiting for news on this front, Ferguson has been unable to sign any players. Only the transfer of defender Nikola Ujdur, seemingly to Championship side Queen’s Park, will free up funds for Ferguson to add a face or two. ‘No one knows what the future holds’ Former Rothes defender Callum Aspell and ex-Ross County midfielder Adam Mackinnon featured as trialists against Raith Rovers and Brora Rangers and could be added if Ujdur’s deal is completed. When asked about whether he’s hopeful of better financial news, Ferguson said: “We’re waiting for a new owner to come in and I believe that is getting closer, so we will see what happens. “No one knows what the future holds. Hopefully when the new owner comes in, things will pick up and we can tweak the squad a little bit. “I’m positive that the club are well down the road with the takeover. “We’re all excited about that, and hopefully it’s only two or three weeks away, and then we’ll get a cash injection.” ‘At the moment, we have no budget’ The action begins for real this weekend when ICT set off early on Saturday for the 480-mile round trip to face League One rivals Annan Athletic in the opening group game in the Premier Sports Cup. Relegation and financial constraints mean Inverness have a largely young squad for the upcoming campaign. Ferguson says he’s impressed by the group he has, but knows it’s going to be a testing year ahead. He said: “At the moment, we don’t have a budget, so we can’t go looking for players. “To be fair, we have one or two in the pipeline as such, but the players will be mostly local due to accommodation costs. “It’s wonderful to see a lot of younger players in the squad. “They are well thought of at the club and a lot of us like the players. “They are young, very good players, and they will get their chance. “We know the season will be tough, but we’re ready. “Annan will be a tough game for us. All the pre-season games have been tough. “Nothing changes – we go out to try and win the game.” Ferguson asked about Doran In the first press conference since relegation, Ferguson was asked about ex-midfielder Aaron Doran, who said the club twice cancelled his knee operation. The Caley Thistle boss said: “It’s not down to me. It’s down to the club to answer these things and I am sure, in time, the club will do so.” ‘I’m a fighter and looking forward to the new season’ – Ferguson With everything that has gone on across the summer, including the proposed training base move to Kelty being binned, Ferguson stressed he’s determined to meet the challenge head on. That begins with the four Premier Sports Cup ties, against Annan this weekend, Bonnyrigg Rose on July 20, Arbroath on July 23 and Dundee on July 27. He said: “We’re looking forward to the new season. “We have four cup games first and it will be a big challenge for us this season as everyone knows. “But I’m a fighter and I’m looking forward to it. ” Striker and skipper Billy Mckay, fellow forward Adam Brooks and defender Danny Devine are facing a race against time to shake off injuries for the Annan trip. Ferguson is aware of fans’ disquiet, with many refusing to buy season tickets until they see internal club changes. He added: “I just ask them to get behind the team and support these young players.”

  42. Duncan Ferguson has nothing to do with the negotiations with any potential new owner, whatever shape that may take. Also does anyone actually know he hasn’t been in touch with Aaron Doran? He’s no Alex Ferguson but he’s the manager we have and he has stuck around when others might have walked. Time we got behind the manager and his team.
