  1. We were excellent today, thoroughly deserved the win and it probably should've been more. We appear to have stumbled on a formation and style that works, or it has the last two weeks anyway. We built on the performance against Falkirk and improved on it. We set up in a pretty standard 4-4-2, relatively flat in midfield with Chalmers left and Mulreany right. Vigurs and Polworth sat in the middle in front of the the same back four as previously, including returning hero Donaldson. Up front we had Baird and Bell. United had a few chances early and forced Ridgers into a reflex save from a shot (didn't see who hit it) and then we had to scramble clear from within the six yard box after a prolonged stramash. After that we really took over and started having an impact in an attacking sense. Baird and Tremarco missed headers and we had a few other openings before opening the scoring. Following a corner the ball was headed clear to Vigurs who shot in from the edge of the box. We then doubled our lead with one of the best goals I've seen us score in years. A United attack broke down around our 18 yard box and we broke with a little dink into midfield from Donaldson (I think). We then moved the ball quickly through midfield and released Mulreany with a weighted through ball. Mulreany rinsed the left back for pace and drove into the box, where he hit a driven low cross that Connor Bell drilled in from a couple of yards. It was a ******* belter, everything about it was perfect, the passing, the pace, the finish. When Mulreany got the ball I said to my mate that this would be goal of the season, I can't imagine us scoring s better one this season. We had a couple of other breaks which could've lead to goals in the first half, Mulreany, Baird and Bell all had opportunities. Into the second half and we again sat strong and broke, with Mulreany probably having the best chance when he was pit right through but didn't shoot quickly enough. Donaldson also had a header that he put over but should've got on target. United, oddly, played with their centre half Durnan up front from an hour but that had zero impact, I don't think a single chance came from it. There were a couple of set pieces that Ridgers had to save but weren't really threatening. It was nervy for the fans because we've been so bad but looking back, we cigar'd it in the second half. Overall, we were excellent. Vigurs was at the heart of everything, he ran the midfield. He has been superb this season, strolling though games and dominating possession. He can switch the play but it's the way he plays little passes to create space, flicks round the corner of players and turns with the ball that makes him so effective. He really has been a class act and is the heart of our team. Defensively we have somehow become settled and solid. Having two experienced full backs in Tremarco and Raven is a help but Donaldson has been a rock the last two weeks, defends well, no nonsense, quick and good in the air. He clearly loved getting that win, going by his celebrations at the end. He looks like being a real find. Up front Baird and Bell aren't likely to be prolific but the way they pull defenders about, hold the ball and make runs is vital to creating the space for our chances. Mulreany has kicked on in the last two weeks, another confidence filled game today, including an actual assist, miracle of miracles! Second week in a row he dominated the full back and his end product was better. Great stuff

  2. Chris sums the game up well, it really was a stroll in the park. No one on the pitch had a bad game today and they can all be pretty chuffed with how they performed. Vigurs, Polworth, Donaldson and Chalmers were all excellent, Bell and Baird were a real handful up front buzzing all over the front line. Raven and Tremarco have brought so much more solidity to our back line. I think we look better at the back mainly as a result of their return than anything to do with Warren. Mulraney suddenly looks like the player he always threatened to be last season but never really kicked on. That's two fantastic performances in a row from the guy and fingers crossed he knocks on from here. As Chris says Robbo seems to have stumbled across a selection and formation that works will with this personnel and has delivered two of the best results and performances we've seen in months. More of the same against Dunfermline next week please. Also good to see some of the YT back today. Crowd was excellent, really gave the players a lot of support. No question they prefer playing in front of the away crowd who get behind them rather than some of the moaners at home matches. Hopefully a few more supporters get behind the side after these good results.

  4. Want to say a Hugh Thank you to Lady F. She has very kindly just called me and told me she has a programme for me and she is sending it free of charge. I am blown away with her kindness. She is a true fan and a special lady. Wish there was more people in the world like this. I promised I would donate money to charity on her behalf and post the receipt on this forum. Thank you again.

  5. Staying in a Perth overnight after game. Best performance for a while, with a strong backing from a large away support. Two well taken goals. Ridgers had a comfortable game with two great saves. Raven and Tremarco dependable at full back. Donaldson led the line well, and he and Mckay rarely troubled. I particularly liked Donaldson's celebrations at full time, showing his displeasure of his former team and leading the praise to the Caley fans. All the midfield did well. Mulraney had a tremendous first half and an assist. Vigurs pulled the strings and scored a well taken goal. Polworth was in the mood, with some great moves. Chalmers was a revelation, and did extremely well. Great to hear the fans chanting for all four of them during the game. Baird and Bell were busy, with Bell taking his goal well. Of the subs, Trafford looked assured, Cooper held the ball up well, whilst Oakley was just a cameo appearance. No complaints about any, but the stand outs for me were Donaldson, Chalmers, Vigurs, Polworth and Bell. I didn't see last week's game, but this was the best I've seen this season by a long way. Well done to the team and management. Dundee United were poor, so hopefully we can get a result against Dunfermline and keep the run going. Four clean sheets too! And that's me still unbeaten given I missed the home defeats for various reasons! I genuinely feel we are turning he corner. We need a big, noisy, supportive crowd next week!

  6. We'll have the goals up as soon as we can get them edited (maybe not tonight).

  7. Hopefully we offer Raven a contract extension to the summer. Great to see him getting the armband for the last few minutes when Vigurs was given the chance to get the fans' applause. Deservedly so on both counts.

  13. I was quite concerned with his signing during the summer and have seen or heard little to alter that since. He spent a similar year at Saarbrucken, where he was injured/***** and then left with little fanfare. So why did We take the risk? He's come through some sort of player agency that sends feelers out (Seedorf too, I assume) across Europe and is likely on a reasonable wage. With instability at board level and change at management level We were an easy target for agents during the summer, I just hope we can improve player recruitment in the coming years.

  14. No, there are some people very concerned about the prospects of a second successive relegation and the potential consequences of that for the long term future of the club. That said, as I've said before on this thread and elsewhere, the current manager needs to be given a bit more time to try to turn things around, and there have been some encouraging signs lately but we can't possibly afford to repeat the mistakes of last season.

  15. I wouldn't. We need to get points on the board to get away from the relegation zone.

  17. This is a national event, supported by many companies and organisations. The club should be applauded for participating. I am sure they would do the same if national events are arranged for other worthy groups. On the park it's been a good day, can we just move on and focus on the positives in the lead up to next week's game, please.

  18. Excellent team performance today. Vigurs, the Stonehaven Pirlo, absolutely bossing the midfield - ably assisted by Polworth with another energetic performance. Coll Donaldson has stepped up and looks solid in the centre of defence, even Ridgers had two excellent saves. Back-to-back quality performances on the road. United were absolutely woeful and if either side is going to feature in the play-offs my money would be on us. We are way behind but these last two performances have been grounds for significant optimism that the corner has been turned. Huge game next week against the Pars. Happy camper tonight.

  19. I don't think Elbouzedi can be overlooked either, in my opinion he looked the best of a bad lot preseason so will be interesting to see what he brings to the overall picture at this juncture

  20. Based on today, things on the park are improving well. Perhaps too late to challenge at the top, but we should be safe enough with signs we can build for next season. It will be interesting once some of the injuries clear up too, as only then will we know the strength of the squad.

  21. Deserved win. Solid defensively which makes a huge difference. Chalmers strolled through the game, smokin joe. There’s not a chance we’ll be near the bottom of the table come May.

  27. One in four homeless people in America is a veteran. This belief that they truly support them is nonsense. The flag waving and pre-match anthem is a smokescreen and done to drive recruitment after the falling numbers of those signing up after the Iraq War.

  29. I personally don’t have anything against such an event or the armed forces for that matter but it’s the type of character these events attracts is the issue Far right groups like the SDL, local supporting orcs, loyalists, unionists the orange order all try and jump on the bandwagon and use the armed forces as an excuse to meet up for a good bevvy and possibly cause bother Like Rene says it should not be exclusive to the armed forces and other professions should also have their day Dougal

  32. Can't believe the time I've wasted reading this thread. The darkest hour comes before the dawn, get behind the club and we can turn this around. Lurching from change to change will achieve nothing, only make things worse in an environment where we are cash-strapped. We've replaced good players with not-so-good players, that's the fundamental problem but it's not easy and we all know the issues - location, limited finances etc. Rather than taking yet more hits on paying off failures I'd much sooner see us investing in somebody/a network to identify talent and/or links to larger clubs to help develop their talent. We need to try and reduce the risk on new signings where in the past we seemed to buy well/luckily as opposed to the opposite over more recent years. Off the park we seem to be making progress, so if ever there was a time to support the team it is now and whilst falling numbers are only to be expected we need to do our bit more than ever

  34. I'd agree with that. Scotland has had some form of election/referendum every 5.2 months since September 2014 David Mundell on Sunday Politics proved yet again that the Scottish Tories concentrate on the 'No to Indyref2/SNPBad' rhetoric knowing they've got nothing else left to convince people to vote for them. As for Scottish Labour, well this about sums them up.....

  36. I don't see why the military should get a day all of their own and others don't. What about health professionals, fire fighters, police officers, coast guards and aid workers? If the club are going to have money off days for different services then fair enough, but I certainly hope the club aren't intending to go down the militaristic, jingoistic, Rangers-style Forces Day of flyovers, tanks lined up in the car park and all the rest of it.

  37. All of which they do through choice. Being away from home for months and being in harms way isn't unique to the military either. What are we going to have next? Jingoistic tunes and the pre-match blasting of canons followed by 'heroes' abseiling down the North Stand...?

  39. At least the Board gave us a good scapegoat in J Robertson to allow us to have the feeling that he alone is to blame. We all know, though, that that explanation is far too simple to really have any credibility. A few good wins and , miraculously, he will then turn into a hero, even a saviour. So let's just keep our fingers crossed and sit tight.

  42. It's not only rangers who reward our armed forces aberdeen county hearts hibs all provide free tickets to forces personnel through a ticket website called tickets for troops so this rubbish about becoming rangers is nonsense. Have those who are moaning ever served in the forces or emergency services if not pipe down.

  43. Well done ICT. It's a great idea to show support for our troops. I often look at the patriotism of the Americans and how they show support. I wish we had that level of enthusiasm for our soldiers in this country. The sacrifices they make are not acknowledged enough imho. Top marks to the club for this. ??????

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.

The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!

    • Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.

    • Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.
