  1. I don't like to disagree dad, but I'm not having this. Mulgrew, Commons and Griffiths are all established Scotland players. Ambrose was at the world cup, Zaluskas, Pukki, Bitton and Johansen have all played for their countries. Even one of the subs (MacGregor) has just got a call up so this was no "severely weakened" team. Celtic have a massive squad who I presume train together day in day out in various permutations. In the second half, we passed them off the park. Not my point of view but that of a significant portion of the media - usually grudging in their praise who are recognising that the style of play, regardless of the manager, is attractive and beginning to show signs of being successful. If you think that this is as good as it gets because that's where we are settled at and others will progress as far can I suggest that this team are still learning, we have Foran to return if required and we will improve. Perhaps you recognise this point in your final sentence, but they seem opposing points of view. You are correct in saying that Brill was excellent, but had we converted chances from Tansey, Ross and Christie (all of which were narrowly missed) and got a stonewall penalty in the first half, your score analysis would have been turned on it's head. There was criticism of the performance against Dundee, but I'm not sure that you can call it significant. We drew against a team that set out to defend for 80 odd minutes and did so very well. We didn't lose the game and had the lions share of pressure. The only thing lacking in the performance was a goal. Is that worthy of "significant" criticism? On the subject of eating humble pie, does that really need to be done? We are all ICT fans here. Sure Hughes was "given time" by some last year and this years judgement point seems to be slipping from October to Christmas to the end of the season, which is where it should have been all along. Even if we lose to Kilmarnock on Saturday, my personal viewpoint won't change. It certainly won't change any more than it did about Butcher's team that was dismantled by St. Johnstone at a similar time of last season, although that display showed how tactically limited we were at the time and was more worthy of concern than any result this season. I'm glad you enjoyed the game, so did I. However, I wish that more than 5600 or so had enjoyed it. We (the regulars, the committed fans etc.) need to be shouting this from the rafters to get more bodies into the stadium to get behind the team, bolster the finances and allow us to kick on. One final point, remember the last time we played a "weakened" Celtic team - we got cuffed because we didn't have the belief that we could beat them. Sure do now.
  2. I really enjoyed the game and thought we played some great stuff at times. It is great to be top of the league without having conceded - but let's not get too carried away just yet. It is easy to be blinkered by the good stuff but I thought Yogi got it spot on with his post match comments about us riding our luck a bit. Celtic hit the woodwork and Brill was by far the busier of the two keepers, indeed, the fact that so many here have marked Brill out for particular praise reflects the fact that on another day we might well have lost that game by 2 or 3. This, remember, against a severely weakened Celtic side with lots of guys probably playing together for the first time in a competitive game. By contrast we have a settled team from last year which clearly has a good understanding between them. It was also the same team that received significant criticism after a disappointing draw against Dundee a couple of weeks ago. Several fans expressed concerns following a run of disappointing performances at the end of last season and were criticised for not giving Hughes time. Now we have just a couple of decent performances and that, apparently is enough for large quantities on humble pie to be eaten! Let's enjoy the win by all means but let us also have some perspective here. Last season we got off to a flier because we had a settled squad. The same is true this year but other teams will get better as their re-shaped teams begin to gel. Let's judge Yogi on where we are at the end of the season and not on where we are just 4 games in. There were some encouraging signs on Saturday, but it is still very much work in progress.
  3. Merited inclusion in the squad for Christie, definitely one of the brightest prospects in Scotland at the moment, hopefully he can get game time and push on from there Hopefully his team-mate Shinnie will get the recognition he deserves in the full squad as well
  4. I think football has created a problem that it will likely never rid itself of due to segregation. In any other sport you can go along to the game, mingle with opposition fans before, during & after without any real hassle (always get the odd incident, but segregation doesn't stop that anyway). For years football fans have been told "we can't put you together because you're all animals and can't be trusted". As a result people have started to conform to that assessment and even the hint that there's an opposition fan in the "home end" (or vice versa) sends them over the edge....probably doing more to create a problem than if they just ignored it and concentrated on cheering their own team along. Wearing a football shirt and waving a scarf isn't a criminal offence and isn't something that should be deemed offensive...so what does it matter where they/we/anyone does it? If they are causing REAL aggro, then they should be treated the exact same as any home fan in the home end should be treated if they do the same. Is it not better to show a bit of the Highland Hospitality that we're famous for by taking a "live and let live" approach? Demonstrate to the authorities who put these ridiculous rules in place that football fans are perfectly capable of getting along....just like the fans of every other sport? Even better still...use it as an excuse to get up and make more noise to try and drown them out. Imagine the atmosphere we could generate at games if fans did that instead of sitting there getting all offended over nothing!!!
  5. Superb display. Our players looked comfortable and confident with the Hughes style, lot of good passing and possession. Watkins was absolutely outstanding and easily the crowd's choice for MotM. His trickery and creative opening up of the right flank was wonderful to watch, and created the goal. We could have finished two or three up, very heartening to see that we didn't try and sit on the lead, but kept taking the game to them. On this evidence we have every reason to look forward to a good season. I can't see any reason why we should fear any team in the league - rather the reverse.
  6. 6 months since Celtic last lost to a Scottish side (Aberden) and 20 months since they failed to score in the league.
  7. 1 point
That's amazing you also managed to get Terry Butcher in the photo
  8. Me too, but: On pizza = good thing Managing a football club = bad thing
  9. Free agents can be signed at any time. There's also a different loan transfer window as well I believe.
  10. Hurlford beat Edinburgh Uni 5-0 away in the replay. Just shows they should have had it wrapped up in the first game but well done to Edinburgh for taking it so far. Hurlford v Clach will be an interesting one, I'll go for another replay between the two of them.
  11. Time to add a new category - champions!
  12. I disagree with this. It's all about scale. Every support has a hardcore of absolute belters, ourselves included. They're just less noticeable for us because the scale is smaller. Nobody really pays attention to a few dozen neds in the North Stand. If you increased the scale by 10-20 so you have an OF sized crowd, you'd have a critical mass of a few hundred of them - big enough numbers to start getting into some serious mob behaviour.
  13. I can only ever remember Paterson being the only name in the frame! I think we pretty much had our sights set on Pele and he was going to be the one. I don't think Huntly welcomed our approach as they were hugely successful under Paterson - but he wanted to come here - and that was that! What an absolute legend that man was with ICT. The 3-1 Parkhead win (with a little help from the Sun's headline) brought us international recognition - but the way he steadily improved us through the divisions was fantastic. A lot of the success we're enjoying today is thanks largely to the foundations laid by Paterson.
  14. Thank you Don, much obliged. So impressed by this team. My oh my! This team , on this display, has John Hughes needing to be commended!. ICT has everything a fan could want. Plays like confident champions. Fit as fiddles,. Sharp as tacks. Urgency evident at all times. Verve and determination on dsiplay with every pass. And some very skilled players. Killie next week will be a test they play hard and have skill and you can see the determination in the team also. Could be quite a match. have to put them away early I think. The Dons-sluggish and looking more like carthorses than thoroughbreds. Motherwell got something but kinda losing it a little. Bit slow on the takeoff -taking too much time to think I fear. Partick no, not this year anyway. Hamilton. coming on strong and also has determination and pace And poor old Hibs. Where is TB when you need him? Thinks: Where is terry B. anyway?
  15. I hope they did him for cruelty to the horse
  16. Apparently stopped doing 90mph through Dingwall. When the police asked him what he was playing at he replied that he was desperate for 3 points.
  17. Pele was God though. Adams is an anchovy.
  18. Richard Gough, Paul Lambert and Graham Alexander.
  19. I hope the humble pie I am eating at the moment is big enough to last me to the end of the season. Yesterday's performance was as good as I've seen for a long time. Solid, effective and at times very pleasing on the eye. The fact that 4 different M.O.M's have been given in different quaters of the media shows it was impressive all round. Mmm I'm hungry for more!!
  20. I follow the West Ham chairman, am i joining west ham? I'm following Cheryl Cole on twitter...I have a meeting with her tonight. I'm just following Cheryl Cole What's twitter BTW?
  21. Gutted I missed this, but good reason: supporting an ICT youth team. Fantastic result and performance by all. Well done John Hughes - mmmmmmmmm, this humble pie is gooooood! League table is just the way it should be

  23. Smashing result for us today. Celtic reserves or not I don't care. We've played their supposed B sides before and been well and truly smashed and I was expecting more of the same today truth be told. These games are freebies really and you don't expect to get much from them but in the end I thought we were well worth the three points today. Our defence coped well with Celtic's attacks and when they did get through Brill was able to keep them at bay with some smart saves from Ambrose, Griffiths and also the help of the bar. Our midfield two of Tansey and Draper dominated midfield the latter spending most of the game bench pressing the Celtic players into submission. Williams again had a very good game on the left, Christie was a bit quiet compared to recent weeks but Watkins turned in a stunning display and Mckay worked his damnedest but ultimately got no personal reward however his pressure inadvertently let to the goal. I didn't think we played as we did against Motherwell last week for the entire 90 minutes today but that was probably going to be a tall order. To begin with we continued to pass, move and receive well continuing the good work from Fir Park. As the first half wore on Celtic came into things a lot more and we seemed to pass and, erm, stand still. Players weren't offering themselves for the ball as they had been doing and this seemed to coincide with the momentum of the game switching. Watkins, who had been tormenting the Celtic left flank was suddenly redundant on the right side of the pitch and couldn't get involved for a time. Ambrose coolly placed a side footed lob towards goal but Brill was alert to tip it over. Celtic then had a fantastic flowing exchange of passes that carved our defence apart and let Commons or Pukki (I think) in but fortunately they couldn't find the back of the net. Briton had that wicked shot crash off the bar after he easily spun away from his marker. It was a cracking effort but just before this we looked like we had a clear penalty turned down by Madden. We started the second half well and started to press Celtic a lot more than the latter parts of the first half. Whilst we still played some of the Hughes style short passing game we also weren't afraid to go direct when we got a chance which was pleasing. However Celtic probably had the first good chance of the half when ICT conceded possession in the Celtic half and the ball was worked to Griffiths who thumped a low drive at Brill who held on to it well. Whilst it was a routine save I was concerned it might slip through his grasp. When we took the lead it was no surprise it came down the right as Watkins had started to influence the game again down that side. His direct run led to a dangerous ball being fired across goal. Mckay and Zaluska both went for it and, I'm not quite sure what happened, but it looked liked it bounced off them both and then into the net off O'Connell who was racing back to help out. After that we started to sit much deeper and conceded possession to Celtic whilst we were content to hit on the break. Celtic struggled to break us down and we should have increased our lead after some shambolic defending from Celtic allowed the ball to drop at the feet of Christie but his placed effort curled wide of the goal. Whilst the rest of the game was largely Celtic probing trying to find a way through we had the best chance of the final few moments when Williams led a counter and crossed to find Nick Ross but, having waited for Zaluska to go down, his shot to the keepers left was at a nice height for Zaluska to desperately stick up his hand to palm it wide. A fantastic result but I do hope we are more clinical in the weeks ahead and that we also get some chances for Mckay to convert. He seems to ploughing a lone furrow right now and our attack could be doing a bit more for him i feel. The defence however looks rock solid and Raven, a player who I wouldn't mind us trying to replace if we can get someone better in, showed some fantastic touches today. Not as good as my MotM Watkins though who royally roasted a Celtic player on the touchline with a Cruyff turn. Looking forward to the visit of Killie next week.
  24. Won't say anything about the game as I'm sure it's pretty much all been said. I'd like to say that I thought the atmosphere was great today, seemed like most of the north stand we're singing along best it's been in a while great day all round Thank you ICT
  25. Totally agree with Renegade, not wanting to get carried away, but we have to be more than happy with oor wee team performing far in excess of our budget and facilities. It really shows what an excellent team we have.
  26. Anyway, I'm sure as everyone who could be bothered going today will know, that was a wonderful performance. The defence and attacking play were both excellent and it is testament to the work being done on the training field. Draper and Brill amongst others were excellent, as was Marley Watkins who I think is our best winger since Barry Robson. Carry on like this, and we could well get into Europe.
  27. REMINDER - THE SEASON IS ONLY FOUR GAMES OLD - AND MANY WOULD SAY THAT WE HAVE PLAYED TWO PROMOTED TEAMS AT THE BEST POSSIBLE TIME, PLAYED A STRUGGLING WELL AND A WEAKENED AND OTHERWISE FOCUSSED CELTIC. WTF - Let's feckin gloat and enjoy - especially the Seethe.
  28. Top 6, if we keep playing like this, should be an achievable task.
  29. Cant get over how in control we were of that game, even if it was Celtic's B team (awaiting that as their excuse). We moved the ball about so well and used our width to full effect. Draper and Tansey bossed midfield yet again and despite one or two moments are back four looked very solid and Deano stood firm when called upon. Celtic never really got into a stride, they looked dangerous after half time, MacGregor made some nice runs for them but they seemed to run out of ideas fast and we were looking more confident with every surge forward. We forced them into that OG, was a brilliant ball in from Watkins and it caused all kind of confusion in the box, Marley looked industrious all afternoon and if he couldnt score then making the OG makes up for it. The work rate was top notch, everyone put in a shift from front to back and we dug deep towards the end to shut Celtic out, nerve wracking end to the game but so worth it. The title is ours to throw away...
  30. Happy clappers that said naysayers wanted ICT to fail as it was 'personal' against Yogi A great result like this and the usual suspect tried to make it 'them' and 'us'. Everyone wants ICT to win! Everyone wants Yogi to succeed! As many did with Butcher, all naysayers want to hold their hands up and say their wrong. Amazing this still needs said....
  31. A great team performance and a deserved victory. I was actually quite glad we played our possession style against Celtic. We made them look quite average. Raven, Watkins and Draper had an excellent game.
  32. Apparently we have lost 500-1000 due to the merger aftermath.
  33. Before the match started I was in a relaxed kind of state and saw the scoreline in my mind--just as it turned out. I also figured the crowd would be 6,000 or so. Frankly, for a match like this the actual crowd at 5832 was close but still disappointing. What with the change of pace demonstrated by ICT recently, the new tactics proving their worth and honest and straightforward-speaking Manager doing his best to bring good changes to Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, one can only hope tat the current success will be rewarded by greater support. Goodness, as a Caley Thistle fan what more could you ask--who would have thunk it, eh?
  34. Celtic are appealing as they feel that Aaron Dorans registration may have lapsed.
  35. No need fer the Smileymometer today - FIVE Smileys awarded to Watkins, Draper and Brill wit Watkins MOM - four to all others concerned. Four clean sheets an 10 points out of 12 a testament to a certain John "Yogi" Hughes who must have changed the system at least 4-5 times during the game. Some may have appeared dodgy but they worked.
  36. Fantastic result. You can only beat what's put in front of you. That doesn't apply to Celtic though, who couldn't beat what was put in front of them.
  37. Well, that's Delia's goose cooked
  38. . Best team name ever.
  39. As football fans are very fickle, I've changed my mind from 10th to 2nd
  40. I thought the pa system was much more clearly audible (north stand family section) than last season ? ....poor choice of music though !
  41. 1 point
