Not a huge surprise I'm afraid. Big summer for Yogi, his signings in this period will make him or break him. Going by previous signings and apparent lack of any scouting I'm guessing its going to be the 2nd option. But please prove me wrong. Raven was not only a good player but a nice bloke too. Sad to see him go.

I can't help but feel ashamed of the managements decision regarding a fantastic servant who has already expressed a desire to stay. I think the management owe us, the season ticket holders, an explanation at the very least as to why he hasn't been offered a new deal as he is a key and very popular figure at the club. Is there any way we, as fans, can show our displeasure? He has just favourited a tweet of mine saying I'll vent frustration at the management!

A 'Save the Rave' banner needed at the last few home games.

Unbeleivable decision by John Hughes. The best right back at the club by a mile and one of the best right backs in the country im my view. How he is not getting offered a new deal is ridiculous. Who are we going to get that is better than Raven? After his previous signings I dont have much faith in Hughes bringing in anyone near the level of Raven. If i had a choice of keeping Raven or Hughes at the club we would be looking for a new manager.

Shocking decision from Yogi, I'm afraid. I think most of us saw this coming a mile off - not one of Yogi's favourite players and yet an excellent servant of the club, topped off by that wonderful goal in the semi-final against Celtic. It'll be interesting to see if Rave plays on Saturday (now that he is allegedly fit again). I agree with some of the comments above - we all make mistakes, but Yogi's Achilles heal is clearly that he doesn't learn from the mistakes he made at previous clubs. I sense that he has an over-inflated ego and a stubborn streak - not a good combination. Boy, is he going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat this summer.

I agree totally ... I hope the powers that be see the wrong in their ways and re think this horrendous decision. There is still time he is not away yet . Although David Raven is not from this area he shows a passion for ICT which is lacking in a few areas !!

Echo all of the above comments. Dreadful team news and I am gutted for the man himself who, as others have stated already, loves the place and wanted to stay. There is no reason JH couldn't have kept him in the squad as his reliability when played is clear, he has earned his place in the team but for some reason is not favoured. Up there with some of JH worst decisions to date as this is not simply not being able to keep hold of a good player but a concious decision to get rid of a fan favourite.

I've always tried to give Yogi the benefit of the doubt, but there's no defence for this decision. It's identical to when Butcher froze out Munro. Even if Yogi doesn't want him to start, at least retain him as a squad player. An absolutely disgusting decision and I for one believe Hughes may have just signed his own death warrant.

Raven is not just a solid, composed, experienced, reliable defender. He's also good going forward and involved in a high percentage of our goals in recent years. Abysmal decision if true. Hopefully Yogi is amenable to reconsider. Still time to rectify this.

Jeezo, absolute travesty if we let Raven go for free. I'd like to hear JH's rationale on this one considering Raven's the best right back at the club.
  11. 5 points
Surely you only let players go when you have a better options lined up, with Hughes I very much doubt that. David Raven was not only a decent fullback, but a player a lot of fans had an affinity with. No wonder we struggle with crowd numbers when popular players are moved out for no apparent reason.

I would expect to start seeing more of Horner playing, JH seems to be keen to oust some of our key players over the last few seasons in favour of those he is bringing in whether better quality or not - similar to his match tactics he is becoming more stubborn in his approach at the club. Very disappointed to see DR leave, but really comes as no surprise - he has been a great player at RB and really made the position his own - I will be even more gutted if he goes to another SPFL club which I'd say looks probable. He will forever be remembered for running into the box and scoring the winning goal to get us to the Scottish cup final.

JH has made a number of errors of judgement particularly on matters of recruitment and retention. He has brought in players many of whom have been mediocre and some of whom can't even aspire to mediocrity yet here we have one of our most consistent and reliable defenders loyal enough to want to commit to the club and the city for the rest of his career and it appears he is about to be shown the door. Getting very close to the final straw as far as I am concerned.

Gutted with this news, Raven had a slow start with us but firmly established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet for me. Great engine and willingness to get forward which surprises me so much that Hughes isn't keen on him. Surprised and disappointed by this news. This summer really is make or break for Hughes as he will me making his own team with only a few regulars from this season. He needs to pull the finger out and start identifying players that can make a real contribution to this team. Too many of his signings to date have failed to impress at all.
  15. 5 points
Reckon that's what Yogi is planning unfortunately, Meekings and Warren are the BEST pairing in defence, wonder if he's going to sign cover for the defence? looks like he's getting rid of the horses and signing donkeys.
  16. 4 points
Totally agree, Kingsmills. The two issues are not mutually exclusive. Whether DR plays or not is a contributory factor in the game. Of course we'll support the team to get this crucial win, but IMO if Raven is fit and doesn't play, it will damage our chances and I will make my feelings known.
  17. 4 points
Pity I can't make Saturday, I think I'll go on Sunday just for the craic.
  18. 4 points
...and huge vocal support for the idea from the North Stand on Saturday. The manager and board need to be left in no doubt about the views of the overwhelming majority of fans on the matter.
  19. 4 points
Right. I'm not at abuse throwing levels yet but this is getting out of hand now. Why does it seem that everything the gaffer says or does is to the detriment if our club. Am sure its not but it almost seems as if he's on a one man mission to destroy us at the moment from talking us down in the press to bigging up all other clubs especially Celtic, to constantly losing our best players whilst signing (in the main) utter dross. Not usually one for these things but has the time come for some form of protest publicly making the board aware of our collective unrest. Nothing abusive but forceful enough that they have to listen and maybe issue some form of statement explaining all of his decisions. If Raven ends up at County out of this i will seriously reconsider buying season tickets for me and the wee man for next year.
  20. 4 points
I can see a lot of Premiership managers raising an eyebrow and one or two raising their 'phones to call his agent. Very disheartening indeed. I would not be ion the least surprised to see him at County next season and couldn't blame him for it. He is settled in the area, loves it , wants to stay and we are inexplicably not offering him the option.
  21. 4 points
Very much what happened at Hibs and Falkirk before that. Everybody makes mistakes, the big problem with Yogi is that he seems to fail to learn from his.
  22. 4 points
Thanks for the clarification. By the way, who on earth gave you a red dot? You are the bringer of the bad news, not the cause of it! Red dots to John Hughes on this one, I think.
  23. 3 points
....we could always go for the "you don't know what you're doing" for Yogi. Thinking about it, a song for David Raven will have even more impact if he's not selected or on the bench. I don't wish for that at the weekend, but if he isn't selected, there's even more reason to chant his name throughout the 90 min!
  24. 3 points
Shame to lose such a well respected player, I hope he finds employment locally if that's what he's looking for and he had better sign my cup semi final ticket before he goes. Scooty might be looking for a guitarist ?
  25. 3 points
Disappointed. Disgusted. Bemused. Raven not getting a new contract with us is terrible news. IMO our best player. Really am starting to lose faith in Yogi now. What exactly is his strategy here? Lose a really good player who wants to stay and sign up a few donkeys nobody else wants. Just a pity the man has another two years contract. There seems to be a lot of general unrest in and around the club. Hope David Raven gets signed up soon by another team. If it is over the bridge I might just head there on Saturdays when we have away games.
  26. 3 points
I just can't believe Yogi has let him go without having a BETTER replacement in the bag. If he has, he has gone way way down in my ratings. IMO a great player for this club and I hope he gets snapped up real quick.
  27. 2 points
Youre getting " sacked in the morning " aimed at Yogi does it for me !!
  28. 2 points
It's entirely possible to do both.
  29. 2 points
Oh dear is all I can say. From what Hibs and Falkirk fans have said this type of decision shouldn't surprise us. I would sincerely hope Yogi has a sitable replacement lined up however I fear that he'll probably end up pulling Lee Bullen out out of retirement.

Another example of Hughes the master tactician I'm afraid..absolutely shocking decision, Raven has been a player who puts absolutely everything into every game and actually plays for the jersey, will be sorry to see him leave.
  32. 2 points
Agree, the enthusiasm to part with nearly £800 to renew Season Tickets is most definitely not there.
  33. 2 points
Disgraceful they way this has turned out. Just over a year ago his injury before the Cup Final was seen by Hughes as a major blow to our prospects of winning it. I'd bet on him signing for County, which would be an even bigger blow to us.
  34. 2 points
Aye, it's gutting. Raven just loves it up here. Please, not Aberdeen! - their favoured right-back, Shay Logan, has hinted he'd be keen on a move back down to England. I can see McIness raising-an-eyebrow at this news and showing some interest.
  35. 2 points
Absolutely gutted by this news, if true. I must admit I had a 'feeling in my water' that it might happen, only due to the inordinate amount of time it was taking. I feel sure Raven would have been good for another couple of years, and I doubt very much that we've seen the last of him in Scottish football. I'd hate for him to end up at one of our competitors, especially 'over the bridge' He has been a great servant and will always be remembered for, amongst other things, his great extra time winner against Celtic in the Cup semi. I'm sure we will all wish him well.
  36. 2 points
Very disappointing if true , another of our best players let go :-(
  37. Hi there, I'm a 4th year student looking to collate the thoughts of Scottish football fans on what they think of club created content versus traditional media coverage of their club. Could you please take a minute to answer this short survey? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1L8FPCJbAdbFdLo4KSu7ie-nicVyWnPadZWEo3xg6LQQ/viewform

It's Tokely and Munro all over again. As renegade stated, why not keep him as an experienced back up if Yogi has doubts about him being a first team regular for next season. This will be the worst decision he has made by far if he doesn't sign Raven up. I can see him at Ross County or possibly even a Dundee next season, both looking more likely to finish above us next year already.

One David Raven does it for me
  40. Not this tedious guff again... Zzzzz
  41. 1 point
Much as I want Raven to stay, I think the focus on Sunday must be to give full support to those on the park and not those off it. This is a crucial game. Win and we are virtually assured of staying up. Lose and it is squeaky bum time. The team is bigger than one individual and we cannot afford to have distractions. Of course, should David feature in the match day squad or if we are getting humped, then that's a different matter!
  42. 1 point
Totally up for this! Not sure the "He scores when he likes" ditty will quite hit the spot, funny as it is. "One David Raven" is unoriginal, but appropriate. Any better suggestions?
  43. 1 point
David Raven a favourite of mine too and I hope this rumour is unfounded but surely that is all it is a rumour at the moment and should be moved to rumour mill.
  44. Sam Winnall has been named as the 9th best player in League One this season.

Unless there is a good reason that we dont know about (niggling injuries or something else behind the scenes) then I do have to say I am also disappointed in this news.
  46. 1 point
'Be thankful' What a terrible statement that is. We are an established top flight club, who need to set the bar a little higher than survival every season.
  47. 1 point
If that's true I'm absolutely gutted he's been a great servant for us and would be really sad to see him go. Surely Josh isn't going to be a permanent righ back with Warren and Devine in centre
  48. 1 point
Any reason given? On the face of it that is a shocking decision. He's been a great player for us.
  49. I have just completed this survey and urge others to do the same. It's very quick to do - the least questions I've ever seen in a survey and we all like a good moan about the media. So here's a chance to help out a student and air your views at the same time.

Keep on playing, keep on attracting supporters (though I fear the return of the union jack mob will bring even more of the Invernessian Loyal back out of the shadows), hopefully be able to field more local youngsters, win the odd cup, stay as much as possible in Spiffle 1 and get as high up as possible. Can't really hope for more. But there will be good days and bad days and its the former we live by.
