  2. Firhill for Chills Another chilling prospect coming up this Saturday as we travel to the West End of Glasgow to tackle third place Partick Thistle with only six games left to salvage our miserable season. We escaped from Tannadice with a hard earned point last weekend, mainly thanks to a tremendous display from keeper Mark Ridgers. An acceptable result under normal circumstances, but given our precarious situation we could have done with all three. However it was not to be and we face the prospect of a pointless weekend unless we can show the same commitment as last week. Anything less and it looks like the play-offs for us with only Arbroath below us at present. We are now at the must not lose stage of the season. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Supporters Bus Info Scott Young SLO Official Preview ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Venue H2H v Partick Pld Won Drn Lst For Agst + / - Home 27 12 8 7 42 36 +6 Away 25 6 7 12 26 40 -14 Neutral 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Total 52 18 15 19 68 76 -8 Honours are fairly even over the years and over the last ten meetings Partick just have the edge although uncharacteristically we did suffer a couple of heavy defeats at Firhill in recent seasons. Historically, home advantage seems to be crucial to the outcome of these encounters. Oh dear! Last 10 Competitive Meetings v Partick 3 - 3 (H) 1 - 1 (A) 0 - 0 (H) 1 - 0 (H) 1 - 5 (A) 1 - 0 (H) 1 - 4 (A) 1 - 0 (H) 2 - 1 (A) 0 - 1 (A) Just before Xmas we were held to a 1 - 1 draw after Max Anderson's 21 second opening goal. Danny Devine was fit enough to start and Jake Davidson again replaced the injured Wallace Duffy at right back. Otherwise no surprises in the Inverness starting XI or bench. As per normal, Brian Graham will present our defence with a robust challenge with Fitzpatrick and McInroy able and willing elfs. 205 visiting fans were on hand to check out this one and at the end of the day Status Quo was maintaned as all five games ended level this weekend. Max Anderson and Jack McMillan were the scorers today. Ooooooft; having got the match underway, it was an early start for the visitors who caught Partick cold as Max Anderson's weak effort deflected off a defender and found the net after an assist from Billy Mckay, long before all the bums had landed in their seats. 21 seconds apparently! The fast start continued in the third minute as Cammy Harper shot over from the left side. Alas, Jack McMillan squared the game after quarter of an hour scoring from close range. Fitzpatrick shot wide after twenty minutes and Ridgers was then brought into action to stop a long range low effort from Ben Stanway. Ten minutes before the break Wotherspoon bounced a shot just wide from the edge of the box as we ventured forth. A free kick in a promising position for the hosts ended when Graham shot over from just outside the box. Charlie Gilmour had the final effort of the half in stoppage time but it was well wide of the target. Partick with the bulk of the play but it remained all square at the interval. A late goal for Arbroath on half time meant that Inverness had gone from 8th to 5th to 9th over the course of the first forty-five. Meh! The hosts set the ball in motion for the second half and they were quick to avoid a repeat of the first minutes of the match as they went straight onto the front foot winning a couple of early corners before Anderson went close to his second of the game as the visitors went up the park. Devine did well to deny McMillan his second as he cleared his effort away from goal and Ujdur was booked for fouling Milne moments later. Partick were first with the changes after the hour. Ujdur took a knock but was able to continue and almost got on the end of the ball during a melee following a corner with fifteen minutes remaining. More corners followed but nothing doing before Longstaff saw his shot blocked five minutes before the end. Harper went down in the box but big appeals for a penalty went unanswered. It ended with a point apiece at a difficult venue. FULL TIME: 1-1 A good point at a difficult venue and one which kept us in eighth place after a late goal for Dunfermline scuppered the Smokies. After the last two defeats, this was a welcome performance and point for the 205 hardy souls who braved the weather to keep away from the Xmas shopping. Last Time Out We came away from Tannadice with a point thanks to a backs to the wall performance over Dundee United. An early goal from an unusual but very welcome source put us ahead, only his fourth ever goal for the Caley Jags and his first since 26th November 2022. Wallace Duffy scored after a dozen minutes before a sensational lob from the halfway line saw Louis Moult equalise after the break. A bit of dubiety over the goal as we felt Cammy Kerr had been fouled by Moult when he took the ball from the Caley Jags player. Nothing dubious about the strike as it flew over Ridgers before bouncing into the net off the underside of the bar. Carragher and Gary Bollan were booked for protesting and they seem to have a valid point. Mak Ridgers was otherwise the star of the show and Carragher could have nicked all three points at the death when his powerful shot was cleared off the line by Docherty. Good point under normal circumstances, unfortunately circumstances are not normal at the moment as the league table will show. Last Five: D W D L D Cheers Mark>>> Partick Thistle beat Arbroath 1-0 at Gayfield to stop them encroaching on us although they still have a game in hand. A 15th minute strike from Aidan Fitzpatrick was enough to keep the Smokies at bay although the game was not as close the scoreline might suggest. Partick had the ball in the net another couple of times but they were chalked off. That result pretty much ensures that Partick will at least be in the play-offs. 4. Went back through the thread to see what my thoughts were on Ferguson coming in. Can't help but feel we need to empty him now to have any chance of avoiding relegation. He's absolutely clueless.

  6. "As I've said to you before..." this guy is absolutely feckin delusional, isn't he. Everyone elses fault, no accountability, world's against us. No wonder Gardiner liked him so much and was keen to appoint him.

  9. Ferguson was a big name ( nice guy ) but Not a manager . Yet Another Scot Gardiner disaster as his recommendation . And man has he had a few . Everything this guy has anything to do with the club is a disaster and about time he is shown the door . Club is in a very precarious position financially so why are we still paying this clown ? ( Reportedly well over 90k a year when we should immediately have been looking to save money ? Far too many loan players ,It rarely works and clearly hasn’t worked . I’d have Charlie take the last few games with some fresh ideas as obviously Ferguson is way out of his depth .

  10. I would now take 9th place tbh. I fear that Arbroath will beat us next week and we will be overtaken by them. There is nothing in our coaching staff or current squad with any capability to halt the continued downward spiral.

  13. I think we all thought the new "celebratory" manager was going to be our saviour, once he'd settled in. Now we have to accept that the best we can do is get a result against Hamilton or whoever in the playoffs. And our celebratory manager is just a celebratory. He ain't a manager!

  14. I’m finding it hard to shake off the feeling that it wouldn’t have mattered if we’d kept Dodds or brought anybody else in. Same feeling goes for ditching him now, wouldn’t make any difference, the problems go far deeper than whoever fills the manager role and it’s dragging us ever downwards

  26. It’s another weekend where many of those we are trying to catch will pick up points given the other fixtures. We could do with Airdrie winning at Ayr tonight, but that would put them out of sight for us. Similarly if Dunfermline beat Arbroath we are unlikely to catch them either. We then have out of form Morton hosting Queens Park so at least one of them will be amongst the points. If we lose and both Ayr and Queens Park win (or Ayr win and Morton draw with Queens Park) we will be 5 points off 8th with 5 games left. All iffs and buts, but we really do need a win tomorrow.

  30. One of the problems of being a “Small Company” is that the accounts aren’t very detailed. In fact when they eventually materialised last year, I don’t recollect any statement of turnover so we don’t really know, year on year, what’s happening with earnings. We also don’t know what the losses are as a percentage of turnover so we just have to speculate as to what the relative magnitude of that £835K loss was.

  31. No, income has dropped. Prize money and gate receipts massively down since the Premiership days. Certain running costs have increased with energy being one of them, and Big Dunc won’t be cheap, but look at the current squad and compare it with the one we had even in our relegation season. We are certainly not spending more than we did in the Premiership.

  33. I enjoyed my first trip up to Dundee and an overnight stop near the Waterfront allowed me to take in V&A Design Museum and Discovery Point before my coach/plane/coach/train/bus replacement service trip back on the Sunday United's ground is quirky, and there was a good atmosphere in the away end [does chants of 'sack the board' count!] I thought we were competitive given the respective teams league positions. United had the better chances [and twice the number], and we have Ridgers to thank in part for keeping us in the game, but we also created some dangerous moments and I thought we were perhaps on top in the second half before their fluke [?] goal. Boy do we miss a decent winger though... last year Jay Henderson was impressing, the year before Logan Chalmers added some guile, and the year before Kai Kennedy added energy. Sadly for us Longstaff is injured, and Shaw has [when fit] been playing too deep in my view [presumably as the 'creative' midfielder]. I'd would say Alex Samuel would benefit from someone who put in a cross or two [in addition to Harper/Duffy's forays upfield] Was a bit surprised to see Pepple paired upfront with Samuel ahead of McKay [was this saving legs, a move to be more physical upfront or a tactical ploy?]. In part it worked because although Pepple doesn't look blessed with a lot a pace, he did occupy the defenders and did well with the cross that set up our goal. And when McKay came on he looked lively. Samuel worked hard all game and he does seem to appreciate the fans as well [he also got warm applause from us when he was subbed], I think he has a key role to play in us staying up. Ridgers was generally good and kept us in the game, but I'd say his kicking is average at best, certainly in this game and he was caught way out of his goal from his own kick, although 9 times out of 10 no one would have attempted Moults audacious shot For me Kerr was the pick of our team and ensured we were competitive in midfield, Anderson next to him was quietly effective and might have scored, and [ignoring the one moment of excessive timewasting which annoyed the Uited fans] I thought Lawal looked good, showing plenty of pace, energy and some skills. Can we keep this midfield together, with Harper overlapping for the remainder of the season? Given the number of shots that Dundee had, and Ridgers heriocs, you might think our back line was poor, but for me Savage was good as Central CB [a decent signing in my view] and I like Boyes at Left CB, Carragher was decent enough too. A tricky selection headache for big Dunc as Devine is probably best at central CB and Ujdur was by all accounts pretty good when he first joined [we might need all of them on the pitch in a frantic run-in or relegation play-off!] So a fun filled afternoon, with postives and an enjoyable weekend...at this point of the season a Billy Doods team would suddenly start winning, can we go up a gear? what rabbits can Big Dunc pull out of the hat? We certainly need to do better at home if we are to stay up, and do better against the mid-table teams. Here's hoping.

  36. I agree with a certain amount of what you say but there are other criticisms that were also made of the previous board and also of boards before that, and indeed are made by football fans throughout the game. The basic truth is that there is no obligation on anyone to put themselves in the firing line and spend their personal funds running a fundamentally non-viable business using a fundamentally non-viable business model - which is common throughout the game. It’s been clear from the start that there isn’t enough demand, neither actual nor (probably) potential, for a product involving around 30 full time front line employees with several more in backup roles, to make that business anything other than regularly loss making. Over time, something in the ballpark of £10 million of other people’s money has gone into keeping this business going and it always runs into the same problem because of its fundamentally loss making nature. Far too often in football there seems to be this expectation that it’s someone else’s responsibility to fund this loss making process and failure then leads to calls for the removal of those who have used their own money to try and their replacement by others prepared to expose themselves to the same routine.

    • Inverness CT 3-1 Morton - Report
It was a lovely evening for a game of football, what could possibly go wrong? Well, what did go wrong was Queen's Park beat an understrength Airdrie 2-0 at Hampden, therefore despite beating Morton 3-1, Inverness head for the play-offs. Morgan Boyes opened the scoring with a thumping volley after half an hour. Kirk Broadfoot benefited from slack defending to level before the break then proceeded to earn the wrath of the home support with an embarrassing celebration in front of the North Stand. Cammy Harper relieved Billy Mckay of penalty kick duties and duly slotted home from the spot ten minutes after the break. The scoring was completed just after the hour when Sean McAllister drilled home into the bottom corner. Robbie Muirhead had been sent off for simulation then taking a wee fit to himself and was promptly sent off after 58 minutes just after Harper had knocked in his penalty kick, probably aggrieved that he never earned a spot kick for his dramatic dive.

Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D

    • Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Out of our hands now: It ended in disappointment for the 319 visiting fans with news that Queens Park had hammered Arbroath 0-5. To rub salt into the wounds, Sheridan and Welsh were amongst the scorers. It's out of our hands now, but it's a must win next Friday and hope Queens Park falter.  Inverness play Morton and Queens play Airdrie. A draw might be enough, but it's a long shot.

I'm not convinced that Billy Mckay was the right man to be taking that penalty, his second failure from the spot in successive games against the Pars.

    • Dunfermline Ath -V- Inverness CT - Preview
Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.
