Anyone else wondering how on earth we are affording him?!!!2 points

I'd take Brown in a heartbeat. He did pretty well in his first season at Fleetwood - they were expected to go down from League One but finished comfortably mid-table. A year and a bit is an above average length of tenure in the English Football League these days. I imagine he got a decent pay-off from them (which may be dependent on him not finding a new job immediately) so I'd be impressed if he was willing to take a big step down (and English League One to Scottish Championship really is a big step down) to join us. Having an ex-Celtic and Scotland captain as manager has the potential to be a decent pull for players (like when we had an ex-Rangers and England captain as manager). I assume he has some pretty decent contacts out there for recruiting players as well. He would be a far more ambitious appointment than I would have believed we could pull off a fortnight ago.2 points

Heard there's a guy available who got to the Scottish Cup final last year with a championship club and season before narrowly missed our on promotion via the play offs. International caps and domestic trophy winner as a player. On paper seems like the sort of manager who could be quite a coup?2 points

Quite relieved as I don’t think he would have what it takes to stand up to the regime2 points

What an appointment. This could well be a disaster but it will certainly put the club on the map.1 point

You just have to look at where they are this season to know that. Sitting 3rd bottom of League Two now.1 point

Someone posted on p&b at half 6 saying they seen brown in Aberdeen train station heading to north platform, train got in at 830 and my mates son was in town and seen Gardiner in Academy street fulled suited and booted.1 point

I’d be happier with Scott Brown but realistically I can’t really see either one of them wanting the job…1 point

Surely it isn’t going down to the wire of tomorrow? Does that even happen? Almost like a wrestling theme tune comes on and out pops Kevin Thomson. There needs to be a leak tonight1 point

Or maybe Scot Gardiner thinks he could do a better job, and wants a crack at it himself! Now, would that be saving a wage, or would he want two wages? Because if anybody could be able to do both jobs, it would be him, in his mind!1 point

To be fair I think all of these games should be reversed. Good for the Highland league teams to get the gate receipts.1 point

My crystal ball is simply flashing the words - relegation - part time football - pay offs. Its going to be a long, long season but at least it will be predominatly league games1 point

It really is sad that the job specification from the Board is that you need to me an erse licker to get the job whilst the fan base are looking for somebody with backbone who will stand up to them. Oh how I wish that it could be based on coaching ability, man management and style of football. As I have said before I dont think that it will make any difference as to who is appointed as the individuals with most influence at this club simply dont really give a toss. But I wager it will be somebody with the initial specification OR it is given to CC and Esson with Robbo overseeing !!1 point

So which one of the erse cheeks do you favour? Or are you the exception that proves your point?1 point

I'd actually love to see TB as the Director of Football (or sport or whatever the hell they call it).1 point

Thank you for saying what was needed. We can play with words round the edges of the main problem which is simply SG isn’t trusted (I hope), by the bulk of the fans that look beyond the next match. The press will fall in line with the SG mantra and belittle and dilute the ST message and angst as a noisy minority and to be ignored. I’ve spouted my drivel reasons for not joining the ST, but that’s not to say I don’t respect them as the main voice of the fans! - I just believe with their voting allocation, they should be more vigorous in challenging the direction the club is taken. That now said, the fans that care more than just turning up faithfully and enjoying the fare, need to decide (to use STFU’s poster), “What are you going to do” Question for me is what type of contract is SG on (fixed or rolling). What is considered success or failure, and who measures / decides this measure and when. For me SG is only interested in himself, ICT is just a tool to, 1) Continue to provide a secure contract and handsome salary, (probably a clause where he gets a sack of gold if paid off early)? 2) Provide him the platform to (in his mind) move on to greater things. Now SG may get lucky and secure some manager that, magic wand like, turns us into something we’re not, and we win promotion in a year or two. More likely we arrest the decline on the park and we avoid relegation, (can we dump if we are relegated ?). Not sure what will happen of the park, but look for a new SLO that promises a new dawn in comms and jam tomorrow! If really comes down to the fans. Plod on and hope for the best (with SG’s vision and control), or secure enough support to come up with a way to get the bulk of the fans behind them to force the Board or other board members to publicly question SG’s performance and expected targets for this and next season! We can’t leave it or expect the press to publish anything that would upset their cosy access arrangements with the current Club hierarchy! bc1 point

I would say that, although most would deny it, the majority of ICT fans have either a Celtic or Rangers bias. This is pretty much a fact of life among Scottish football fans, and there's not a lot we can do about it - we just have to accommodate it.1 point

Pretty well sums up how I feel too. Maybe an element of rose-tinted specs like Scotty but in all my years on the terracings I never enjoyed anything more than watching Pele’s teams win or lose whatever league we were in. Despite the euphoria of Helicopter Saturday when we beat St Johnstone I felt that it was never likely to be the same again, and I had that same feeling again in 2015 after the cup final win. Sadly my fears seem to have been well founded and my longing for a return of those magical Pele years now seems like a forlorn hope with the hierarchy we currently have.1 point
-
The reason Pele is remembered so fondly, for me, is that he truly believed that his team could beat anyone, and he had the players believing it as well. That meant that win, lose or draw, the football was always exciting to watch. Unfortunately that became harder for any manager to maintain as we progressed through the leagues and the cost of failure brought with it a fear of losing. Focus then shifts to being defensive and the priority being to avoid relegation. It also becomes more expensive to just stand still as a team/club and whilst we've been blessed (for the most part) with people willing to throw money into the club, the returns diminish. I have no issue with us being a Championship level club, or even a league 1 or 2 club, but it scunners me that we no longer have that sense of community and the entertainment has totally gone from the football.1 point
-
May be some rose-tinted glasses on my part, but I always thought the Pele era saw us play great attacking football utilising the full width and camber of our pitch, where we were just as liable to win 5-1 (quite a few of those scorelines back then) or lose 1-5. It was entertainment nonetheless and I seem to remember we also went some insane length of time without a 0-0 result. You always knew there would be goals, just not sure at which end or in what quantity! Ayr Utd in particular seemed to generate crazy scorelines. (even before TB's sermon in the stands). Nowadays, if it hits 1-0 (or 0-1) in favour of the opposition then you really wonder if we have the quality or tactical knowledge to get back into the game. Too often, the answer to that is no.1 point

Here’s one for the open meeting. As it was a nice day for football, I thought I would buy a ticket for todays match. So at 11 o’clock this morning looked up to see if I could buy a ticket online! No link open. So I called the ticket office at the stadium. Got forwarded via a recorded message to another message saying the office was unable to take my call but leave details and phone contact number and ‘they’ll call back’, Now 1:30 and Zip! what ever happened to our club when they don’t even seem interested in selling tickets. No wonder the club is in turmoil! Oh how I miss the old turnstiles! Last straw for me. bc0 points
