  1. Most successful ICT manager ever, it doesn't get much better than where we are at the moment. He leaves the club in a massively better position than it was when he took over, and for all that, I thank him. But at the same time, I also wish him every possible misfortune.

  2. I've just read the report on the BBC website and got the same sort of impression as Dargo20. If Malpas and Marsala like working for ICT then why would they leave just because Butcher would like them to? As a management team they have achieved a lot here and are appreciated by the club and the fans. They also have the real chance of winning something big this year. But despite the excitement of what this season could bring, I think both club and fans are realistic enough to know that at the moment the team is punching well above it's weight and as long as we stay in the premier division there is no chance of their being dismissed by the club. They have a level of security they wouldn't get in other places (certainly not at Hibs) and they are genuinely appreciated here. It's hard to know what to think. I would have thought that if Butcher and Malpas (and to a lesser extent Marsala) work as a team they would have talked about the potential of moving before and would know that if a management opportunity came up which interested Butcher then it would be clear that the other two were either in or out - and the offer would involve them. If Malpas was considering going to Hibs as well then I would not have thought he would be looking after the team just now. That is an encouraging sign. Whilst I said previously that whatever the outcome, this episode is damaging to the club and perhaps it would be best if Butcher left and let the club get on with the recruitment process, that was probably said out of frustration. What I think would really be best is for him to realise that he has got a good job here until he retires and to stay and commit to being here for as long as the club wants him or until he retires. He really could achieve legend status then. I wonder if he really appreciates what he has here? CaleyD was right before and seems confident that he will stay. CaleyD has good knowledge of the machinations behind the scenes and I am encouraged by what he says. I get the sense that Butcher likes it here but probably has the dream of leading a bigger club to glory. The reality is that that probably won't happen - but it is like an itch you can't stop scratching. He knows he should stay put but he just can resist. I hope CaleyD is right, but if Butcher is going to stay then lets hope he really stays and doesn't put the fans, the club and, most important of all, his players, through this trauma again.

  3. Do people honestly think that if TB was going to say his goodbyes to the players that he would do it so publicly...especially when he was at the stadium with them shortly beforehand? The STV news showing Terry leaving the stadium saying he was going to work was shot BEFORE the footage at training...I would say order of events deliberately altered to cause confusion and keep people tuning in to the news. Why do people continue to pedal press reports as being "fact" when they are, time and again, proven to be nothing but inaccurate speculation? As far as I am concerned, Terry Butcher is the manager of ICTFC until such time as we are officially informed otherwise....and I don't believe that is set to change any time soon.

  4. I don't suppose he'll be anywhere to be seen tomorrow?. Don't tell me it's out of respect to ICT, he didn't want to take the flak from the support. Makes tomorrow a day to be there for your team. Wasn't planning it but I'm going now.

  5. Chris Hogg is apparently going to be in hospitality tomorrow. Will OTJ be on the park? Will Terry (and/or IHE) have a half and half Hibs/ICT scarf? So many questions, I have to be there for the answers.

  6. Butchergate, The Extended Version It's been an eventful week in the Highland Capital with all the talking points happening off the park, and sooner than the official chinwag methinks. The departure of Pat Fenlon from Easter Road sparked the managerial merry go round into action and interest swiftly focussed on Inverness manager Terry Butcher. That was just the start, it would drag on all week. Here's Pat telling us why he felt the time was right to leave, but it's a hell of a way to try and get three points off Inverness. If you had believed BBC Scotland's ill advised journalism, then Butcher was all but Hibernian boss by half three on Monday afternoon. Strange considering Butcher had allegedly not spoken to anyone at Easter Road regarding the job, despite claims by a wifie reporter who told the nation that Terry had agreed terms with Hibs. This misinformation caused Caley Thistle Online to spike as football fans scoured the internet for confirmation, or in the case of Inverness fans, denial. By Tuesday tea-time Butcher was granted permission to discuss the managerial position with Hibs after an official approach by the Edinburgh side, with Kenny Cameron vowing to fight to keep Butcher here. Jimmy Nicholl was tasked with leading Hibs into battle this weekend, a move which would pave the way for ongoing discussions between the two clubs and Terry Butcher. Wednesday was chilling out day, just as well as I went down with serious manflu. Butcher had been discussing his future with Hibernian who claimed the talks were positive. Thursday and Butcher was back in Inverness, and Malpas was preparing the team for Saturdays game with news that Nadir Ciftci's red card has turned yellow. The folk in charge of our game need to take a look at themselves. Friday morning and the rumour mill is rife with Butcher's imminent departure, cut and dried it would appear if twitter accounts are to be believed, and all that is required now is the official announcement. Fritz the dog was on hand to keep the gathering throng of reporters guessing. I know the answer. It's a miniature Schnauzer! And a Geordie to boot! Terry and Fritz looked more like extras for One Man and His Dog than a man with a life changing decision to make, bedecked in cloth cap and green wellies, like something straight out of the Black Isle Show. The departure of a manager is something Inverness should be used to by now. It's not something new and he won't be the last manager or player to be taken from us. However, it's the timing of this one that irks many fans. Inverness riding high in the SPFL, a League Cup semi-final to look forward to, a squad really starting to show their potential and all of a sudden, a struggling club with loads of latent capabilities come knocking on the door with a wad of cash and BOOM! Our wee world falls apart. Hibs have not won the Scottish Cup in over a century. That's a long time in anyone's language and the last of four Scottish Championship titles was in 1952, thanks mainly to the Famous Five. They have three League Cup successes to look back on more recently, 2007 being their latest brush with silverware. So, surely it is only right that the clubs, players and fans are let in on the secret so preparation for Saturdays game can go as smoothly as possible. No? Mr Butcher has nothing to pay back to Inverness. He has taken the club to a new level and has endeared himself to the fans with his orchestrations at the end of games. Who can forget the sermon at Somerset Park having just won the First Division at the first time of asking. I'm not sure these actions will be replicated at Easter Road. However, it's Terry's life and we are all grateful for his efforts over the last few years in raising the profile and status of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Let's be honest with ourselves. A manager never stays at a club forever in the real world. Success brings it's own downsides, and this was always going to happen, sooner or later, it's how it works I'm afraid. But it's still Murder Mystery Suspense. It's murder for the fans, mystery as to who will be in charge, and Butcher is keeping everybody in suspense. But Terry, beware of the curse of the Caley Jags. Very few have succeeded after leaving Inverness for greener grass. Take your pick. Big fish in small pond or small fish in big pond. Unbelievable.............. Would you believe it, the team Inverness are playing at the end of this traumatic week is................yes, you've guessed it Hibernian. Unbelievable! You could not script this any better. It has been a week of total disruption on the park with player training taking a back seat to Butchergate. Not only at Inverness, but the same at Easter Road, although their emotions will be the reverse of ours. Mo Malpas has denied any knowledge of Butcher's intent and I find that odd in the respect that he must be aware that if Terry goes, then he and Steve Marsella would be prime targets to join Butcher at Easter Road...........unless he knows otherwise and is staying put. Anyway, Jimmy Nicholl is tuning up the Hibs squad and Maurice Malpas is preparing the Inverness players for what will be an emotional day, although Duncan Shearer was taking the training by Friday morning at Inverness and Alan Maybury drafted in at Leith. Meanwhile, back to the nitty gritty. Inverness are unbeaten in their last three games at Easter Road with two draws and a win. Hibs have not won in their last three games at home, their best result was a 1-1 draw with Celtic, losing to Aberdeen and in the League cup derby against Hearts. Inverness have scored twice as many League goals as Hibs who have only notched a meagre nine goals in twelve games. To counterbalance that poor record, they have only lost five goals at home in the league and twelve in total, that's only one more than Inverness. Inverness are seven points better off than Hibs. (why would anyone want to go there?) Inverness will have David Raven back in the squad after a three game absence, although Carl Tremarco has done himself no harm with no nonsense defending and Graeme Shinnie scored the crucial second from Ravens right back position last week, something Raven has yet to do for Inverness. Dean Brill has extended his loan at Inverness. The big keeper has been sensational between the sticks, a couple of bloopers apart and is a very welcome addition to the cause for another few months. James Vincent is out long term and Danny Williams is reported to have a leg knock. Hibs will be without Liam Craig who failed to overturn a red card decision. He will miss this game and Hibs next League Cup game. James McPake makes his return after suspension Also out are Sam Stanton, Tim Clancy, Michael Nelson and Alex Harris. tm4tj Prediction :- Interesting day ahead and all things being equal, Inverness should thump Hibs. However, this has been an unusual week. Billy McKay (2) and Richie Foran were the scorers in Inverness earlier in the season and in all honesty it could have been double figures. I would have expected more of the same this weekend had it not been for Butchergate. With the main focus being on the managerial malarky, this game has now become nothing more than a sideshow and literally anything could happen. I'll go for a couldn't care less no scoring draw.

  9. Had to smile when I read this on hibs.net: "I must admit I've been taking a look at Caley Thistle Online. The homespun psychology from one of the big noises over there is highly amusing." Got me thinking, I wonder if Butcher's move has been delayed because Hibs are insisting on getting IHE as part of the package?

  12. Monday - BBC report deal agreed Tuesday - denials etc Wednesday - Butcher journies to Edinburgh Thursday - Butcher sits in talks with messrs Cameron and Bennett Friday - Butcher goes to training pitches and chats with the squad...............tells them he's staying. Saturday - to prevent flack Malpas takes the dugout with Shearer and Marsella. Sunday - Butcher sits in his hoose in Abriachan stroking his dog and reflects on the fun week he's had stringing everyone along. Monday - back to training as usual. And all the while the hacks freeze their goolies of waiting on news.

  13. That's what Mr Harvey said on STV, he also says that whoever is in away dugout tomorrow may well be an indication to if Tel stays or not. I think something we have learnt this week is not to listen to the journalists who clearly know as much as us!

My team ------------------Esson------------------ ---Esson----Esson----Esson---Esson--- -------------Esson-------Esson------------ ---Esson---------Esson--------Esson---- -----------------Esson---------------------- Esson can do a great job pushing forward to support Esson, although I'm a little worried that Esson and Esson may not marry up well in the centre of the park.

  17. I suspect the Butcher/Malpas/Marsella package was offered as a take it or leave it....and Hibs have taken it. Assuming all the assumptions are correct, I am really gutted at this: I really wish he'd seen us to the end of the season. I met TB a few times and really liked him, but I am struggling to wish him well, given the fact he has gone to a rival team. Thanks, yes - good wishes stick in the throat at the moment, especially if the expected raid on our team happens in January. I just hope they have to endure another management team lifting the league cup in April and leading the team to Europe at the end of the season. Hibs won't do anything this year for sure (Dross County likely to dump them out of the cup in a couple of weeks), so you just wonder how long he'll get there.... Now for the positive: no manager is ever bigger than the club and ICT will go on. Who knows - the new man might have even more success than TB....and the charisma to hold onto our stars in January. Onward and upward - starting tomorrow!

  18. Cut the negativity. These guys will not succeed at Hibs. ICT never lies down and history is likely to result with them falling on their swords in a few years time after yet another defeat by ICT. When Rangers return to the top flight in two years time, there will be little room for Hibs to be successful. Even next year Rangers will be a major force in cup competitions. The ICT formula will not work at Hibs. Ross County may well eliminate them from the Scottish Cup this year then what do they play for? A management team driven by short term increased salaries!!

  20. Gutted dosent describe it. These have been the best 5 years I've ever had as an ICT supporter. We became his club. He was supposed to see this through and he is off to basically start all over again. There was more history for him to make here but he has made his choice. A new chapter begins, I will be there for the start of it.

  22. Terry is killing his chances of salvaging anything at either end the longer he keeps this up. Im at the point now where I almost dont want him back (I know that sounds bitter) but Hibs are a rival club with the same aims and aspirations as ourselves in a league where there is never much distance between teams. If this was an English club it would be a different story. Different league, different mindset, different country. Deep down I just dont think his heart is in it anymore. I cant imagine what the week has been like for the players and the backroom staff. My only hope is Hibs are peddling out the same tripe theyve been displaying for weeks and we take them apart. The players will need the full backing of the fans, especially on Saturday. I imagine its been a difficult week for each and every one of us. If he does leave I will be gutted, I will be gutted to see a man depart at a crucial time in the season, after having worked tirelessly for the last 5 years in building this club into a real force. I will be gutted to see him head to a club where he will ultimately throw it all away chasing the same ghosts that Fenlon, Calderwood, Hughes and Paatelainen have been chasing. But what I will be gutted about most is we will never see how far Terry could have taken us. We still sit high in the league and we still have a cup semi final in February to get through. If Marsella and Malpas follow then we will have to re jig our entire way of doing business. A formula which has served us well. Especially in the last 2 seasons, the thought of that dosent bare thinking about. If he does stay Im not convinced he will have the same authority or respect from the fans though time would tell on that one. Things could go on like nothing happened. On the flip side if he does depart. Our high league position and cup status makes a really attractive outlet for any manager. I would expect a massive flurry of applications. While it will be frustrating it could also be a really exciting time for us as fans. At the moment all we can really do is put this hellish week behind us and get right behind the team that is put out against Easter Road on Saturday...regardless of whoevers in charge. Eddie Thompson said fans are the only constant in football. I think that statement means more now than it ever did. The ICT ride will continue! Lets do our bit to keep it going.

  23. This whole palaver is boring me to tears. I have a great deal of respect for Terry but he's making a right pigs ear of this situation. He and his advisors should have had the deal done before the whole thing became public. Dragging this out all week with us heading to Easter Road on Saturday is far from cool. Time to bring this to a conclusion and move on.

  26. Has it been confirmed who will be in the dugout for ICT tomorrow? As in, is it definite that Tel won't be? If so, I can't understand that. Terry is the ICT manager, if he's going nowhere, why wouldn't he represent the club that pays his wages and take charge of the team tomorrow? Hibs will surely love that he's not, having disrupted this weeks training already. If there's still no been no decision made, I can understand that - it's a move that could define Terry's career. However, if a decision has been made, it's an absolute farce that both sets of fans haven't been informed.

  34. If Robbo is considered to be desperate then some others of us could opine that he is simply an active man aggressively trying to improve his future prospects and should be given the respect he is due for not sitting around and just moping about the fact that he has not been in the Management frame for quite a long time instead of getting on with his search. I admire him for that. Robbo is not a nyaff, he's an aggressive fella who gets off his mark to keep his pot boiling. I don't envy him because who else is going to get him a decent job with prospects? Good luck to him I say and, if he was hired on at ICT , I believe that he would put a lot of effort into improving this club. For sure he appears to love the game and has been keeping into touch with all the other footie personalities around so, there you go. We could do a lot worse imho. If Terry did not have his two assistants to help him, where would he have been I wonder.? This is a speculative comment but not intended to be disparaging --just reviewing the past realities and the luck of the draw that he managed to engineer. After he goes, there won't be too many Managers that can obtain loanees from England so we had better look around for a Manager that is well-versed in Scottish football, has sympathetic contacts and can identify talent with a purpose in mind when he sees it.

  43. I think that lots of people on here are being totally unreasonable about this. As fans we all want him to stay but Butcher doesnt owe us anything, he has done quite enough and deserves all the attention he has been getting. Some people think he is being disloyal because he said he would see out his contract after the Barnsley affair but had it been a top end premier league team coming in the next day he would have been gone. He hasn't had much time since the approach was made on Tuesday but I think the more time he takes is actually a compliment. This decision isn't black and white yes or no. He has to work out does he want a new challenge, has to see what the opinion of Malpas and Marsella is, very important does he up root Rita from a really lovely life in the Highlands. It is all rumours but Butcher has not said yes or no regardless of the situation with Malpas and Marsella showing he is torn. I dont think money is a huge priority for him and he is aloud to speak about potential vacancy's so if he says no then I for one won't be resentful that he put us through this. And if he goes then i wish him luck and i get excited about a new man carrying on Butchers fine work.

  44. Having heard Maurice Malpas interview on various TV channels tonight if you look at its content and his body language it would appear he plans to stay at ITC. He talked about Terry having a decision to make not we have a decision to make and he said clearly he will remain in the ICT dugout until someone tells him otherwise. When talking about the Hibs game he could have given a bland football cliché answer to endear himself to his new prospective employer instead told grittily about how hard they had trained and importance of getting the 3 points from Hibs in Edinburgh. Added to which it would appear that Steve Marsala has distanced himself from all the speculation and has stated to one of the keepers that he will not be going to Hibs as part of a dream team. Maybe just speculation but perhaps Petrie can afford Terry Butcher but cannot afford the other two given that he would have to compensate not only ICT but a package for an outgoing Jimmy Nichol and their present goalkeeping coach. The dilemma facing Terry Butcher might not be accepting the job at Hibs but going it on his own again without the rest of his successful backroom team
    1 point
  45. As frustrating as it is to not know the final decision - one way or the other - I can understand why it is taking a while. TB has to weigh up all the options and that involves not just him but also MM and SM potentially. If Hibs have agreed to offer all 3 a contract then there is 3 sets of compo to discuss if he accepts, if they dont want all 3 then TB has to consider whether going it alone is worth it (like Sydney !) and ultimately after weighing all that up or not he has to get the answer from his missus !!! we need to be patient .... and on the plus side, he is not gone (yet!)
    1 point
  46. Not that much bigger. Petrie is trying to get rid of Hibs debt hence the reason other managers have failed there. They still have debts of £5.5 million. Something Petrie is miffed about considering a couple of years ago he'd got this down to below £3 million so the player budget still suffers.

    • Inverness CT 3-1 Morton - Report
It was a lovely evening for a game of football, what could possibly go wrong? Well, what did go wrong was Queen's Park beat an understrength Airdrie 2-0 at Hampden, therefore despite beating Morton 3-1, Inverness head for the play-offs. Morgan Boyes opened the scoring with a thumping volley after half an hour. Kirk Broadfoot benefited from slack defending to level before the break then proceeded to earn the wrath of the home support with an embarrassing celebration in front of the North Stand. Cammy Harper relieved Billy Mckay of penalty kick duties and duly slotted home from the spot ten minutes after the break. The scoring was completed just after the hour when Sean McAllister drilled home into the bottom corner. Robbie Muirhead had been sent off for simulation then taking a wee fit to himself and was promptly sent off after 58 minutes just after Harper had knocked in his penalty kick, probably aggrieved that he never earned a spot kick for his dramatic dive.

    • Inverness CT -V- Morton - Preview
Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D

    • Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Out of our hands now: It ended in disappointment for the 319 visiting fans with news that Queens Park had hammered Arbroath 0-5. To rub salt into the wounds, Sheridan and Welsh were amongst the scorers. It's out of our hands now, but it's a must win next Friday and hope Queens Park falter.  Inverness play Morton and Queens play Airdrie. A draw might be enough, but it's a long shot.

I'm not convinced that Billy Mckay was the right man to be taking that penalty, his second failure from the spot in successive games against the Pars.

    • Dunfermline Ath -V- Inverness CT - Preview
Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.
