  1. No he shouldn’t be sacked but if he keeps this torrid form up much longer then I don’t know how his job could be tenable. I was disappointed in Hughes’ appointment. I would have rather had Kenny Sheils, Paul Hartley or even Jimmy Calderwood. At the time I accepted that although Yogi wasn’t my first choice I would give him a chance. We have been utterly abysmal under his leadership. Prior to the Partick game we went five games without scoring. We managed one home win which was against a team two tiers below us (in a reply I might add). We have only won two in a row once. Under Butcher at the start of the season we went six games undefeated. Yogi getting us to the final was not a big achievement in my book. He managed us for one match in that tournament against a threadbare side who have been relegated since the start of the season. We released two strikers in the January window and never replaced them. If anything happens to Billy then we are left without an out and out first team striker. I doubt Foran can play in that position for 90 minutes. Curtis and Toby were not regular first team players. We lost no players following Butcher’s departure. Sp I can’t understand why we have taken such a dramatic dip in form since he left. Yogi is the obvious variable. I appreciate that we have had a run of a lot of games but I feel we haven’t utilised our squad enough. Ryan Christie for me has been a standout when he has appeared yet he has not been handed a start, Polworth scored last night but will he get a chance on Saturday? Adam Evans has been good for the U20s so why not reward him? Brill concedes five goals in quick succession so why not play Ryan Esson? I don’t go through life blindly following authority so I dispute the attitude that “if the board appointed him then he is fine by me”. I happen to think that we have one of the best boards in Scottish football but it doesn’t mean to say that they don’t make mistakes. I don’t buy the “punching above our weight” thing either. We finished fourth last season, had very little squad changes this year and were comfortably in contention for a European place before Yogi’s appointment. I really hope Hughes does turn it around as he seems to be a passionate man who I wish all the best but I find myself growing more and more frustrated with him as time goes on.

  2. Hughes is trying to get us to recycle possession and keep it but I think we need to revert to being more direct. Direct doesn't mean long ball but we need our quick players to get hold of the ball and run at there men, we need quicker passing from front to back because without it Billy Mckay does not get a lot of space do anything. We don't have many players in the team that can unlock the defence when the tempo is slow but our early season form was because we stretched teams with good passing but pace that teams couldn't cope with. Hughes is attempting the right formula as we all want to see an entertaining team on the park but i think he has to also mix in our fundamental strength which is to be physically strong. I don't want to see Meekings and Warren be passing the ball about the box i want to see them dominate attackers and get the ball forward to more creative players. In our short history we have been hard to beat because we have had strong players and we need that combined with neat passers of the ball. Maybe its worth pushing Shinnie further forward and play tremarco at the back and without making excuses i dont think the fixture pile up has helped. We have a small squad and i think it is showing which is why i agree that we should be allowing the younger players more of a chance to play and maybe add some fresh and youthful exuberance to the team. Lastly we have great options in the centre of midfield and unless he starts playing Vincent back in behind Billy before his injury then we drop one of him Draper or even Foran because we cant accommodate all 3 as one will be out of there best position and therefore will disrupt the balance of the team

  3. Agreed but one thing Yogi can influence is tactics and I suspect that he is firmly behind why the ball was played back to Brill in the first place. Under Butcher, would we have seen the ball from Brill going to Meekings in the first place? I feel that Yogi is forcing a style upon the team that simply does not suit the players that we have. It concerns me greatly and it takes a big man to change his philosophy - will Yogi do so?

  4. I'm voting for Durex as our shirt sponsor, with the slogan "play it safe". This will specifically be for Meekings and Brill.

  5. Just watched it on Alba without knowing the score. All in all, a bit of a wasted evening with no TV or computer before 10pm in case I accidentally heard/saw the score. Yet more gifted goals cost us again. How many is that now where ****-ups between a defender and Brill have just gifted the opposition a goal? I thought Brill was shaky all night and should have done better with the poor pass back from Meekings. He is not the keeper he was earlier in the season. His kicking especially is shocking. Personally, I think he needs a rest. We probably shaded possession in the match but seemed to be trying to walk the ball in instead of having a pop at goal. Until Polworth showed everyone how to do it. A real cracker. Mckay missed his only two good chances. The one near the end for the equaliser was especially bad. With Europe now out of the equation, time for Yogi to ring the changes. I feel Ross should start, and why not give the youngsters Christie and Polworth more match time to see what they can do. Foran should have been subbed long before he was tonight. I'd leave him out for a couple of games, along with Vincent and probably Watkins. Mckay too, now that he has lost the scoring knack looks very average. Maybe a rest will sharpen him up again.

  6. Before he got injured he was the messiah and during his injury we missed his presence badly and now, because he hasn't went straight back to his excellent pre injury form he's past it. No, he was out for 2 months and at 33 it takes that bit longer to get your sharpness back. Hughes said himself before the Partick game both he and Vincent were still a couple of games away from full match fitness. That hasn't changed. And I don't think it's because its one of those injuries that you never get back from either. I think the real problem is 2 things really. 1, trying to play 4 central midfielders in the team when we need 2. That's Hughes fault. Vincent can play advanced but not out wide. That seems clear. Second, individual errors, like from Meekings and Brill against United, twice, in 2 different games. Mainly Brills fault tonight, but it was a short back pass. That doesn't excuse Brills thinking. What is his obsession with hitting it towards the oncoming player? That gaffe really cost us.

  8. Full Time in Dingwall was 3-1 to Hibs. I felt that the game was pretty even despite the scoreline suggests. We played with a fairly strong U20 side with Nick Ross, Danny Williams and Danny Devine coming into the side as 'senior' players. Ryan Christie had a good game and generally making a nuiscence of himself for the Hibs defence in the hole behind the striker. Liam Polworth was playing a holding role in Midfield and I thought he was our man of the match IMO. Getting the ball from deep and pushing the team forward. He got on the score sheet again today and it was an absolutely cool, well taken goal to equalise. Adam Evans had a good game aswell despite not scoring. He held the ball up really well and out muscled a few of the Hibs defenders which was pleasing. Him and Billy up front in the final 30/20 mins of games may be worth a shout. Nick Ross was drafted in and he didn't really do much if I am perfectly honest. He added width to the team which is fair enough but didn't really produce much today. Danny Williams played in the centre of the mid and he had an okay game. He misplaced some of his passes and often left too much of a gap for Hibs players to utilise that space. I can't really be too critical of him because you could see he wasn't really comfortable in that position and wanted to be on the wings. One player for Hibs that I was really impressed with is the boy Zoubir. He was one of the wingers for Hibs and just walked through our defence adding width to Hibs which is something we need in the first team and part of today's youth game. I felt that the team were doing too much ball retention and they got punished in the later stages of the second half for Hibs to score their third. Cammy MacKay was the goalkeeper today and he is probably my preferred choice for U20s and probably a back up to Dean Brill for next season. He had a good game. Made some good saves today but the second goal no keeper would have saved it and the third goal Hibs walked it in but at no fault of the keepers. So all in all, I felt the U20s should have got a draw at least but silly defending costed them.

  9. Draper, Tansey Watkins, Vincent, Doran For me thats our strongest midfield, unfortunately we are trying too hard to include Foran when the reality is he isnt really needed just now, player power perhaps?Dont get me wrong Foran is a terrific player for us but as effective a leader as he is he is not at his best in terms of playing. Draper and Tansey provide a good balance of strength and creativity through the middle. Watkins and Doran are our 2 best wingers and Vincent was at his best at the start of the season when he was playing just off Billy, he provided a good go between from midfield to attack, aint got the pace or positional sense for the wing and dosent have the strength for the holding role. These comments of winning ugly are a tad concerning. We have the players to play good football, the idea of winning ugly strikes me as a bit lazy.

  10. I watched the incident on Alba and if anything Josh Meekings was at fault. Why did he pass it back Brill? All that does is invite pressure which in this instance resulted in a United goal. Josh should of cleared the ball instead - schoolboy defending. On a positive note. Liam Polworth's goal though

  11. Having listened to Hughes post-match interview tonight, all we got was two dozen cliches and all the stuff about what a wonderful bunch of lads we have. There was nothing whatsoever to suggest that he knows what is wrong with the team/tactics or that he know what to do about it. Maybe he just keeps those things private.

  12. A couple of mistakes at the back cost us the game, but we were so poor going forward, yet again. We just don't attack with pace or purpose, and just can't hit on the break like we used to. With the exception of Polworth's screamer, our shooting was so weak, every single time. The efforts that were on target were soft and straight to the keeper, and when Billy was neatly played through, he paused and then just made a hash of it. Worst I've seen him play, and any other team would drop him and bring in one of their back up strikers. Is it fatigue, lack of confidence, or both? Having said that, he was in the right place in the last minute to launch for a diving header but put it agonisingly wide when we thought he would score. The arrival of Christie seemed to galvanise the team into suddenly wanting to attack and score. He needs to start, probably instead of the ineffective Vincent.

  13. There you go sums it up, there's no realistic other candidate that would be worthy of the job. I have stated that the club missed a trick with not opting for Paul Hartley and Co but the other side of it maybe we dodged a bullet. Also not forgetting with John Hughes being a long term contract we'd have to pay compensation for sacking him which would render the whole appointment pointless.

  14. It would appear that our defense has made our goalie nervous and wrecked his confidence?
    1 point
  15. Not convicted we've got the option to replace him at the moment tho even if we wanted to? IMHO the issue with Dean and the defence is that they are not comfy with all with this constant passing to each other and pass backs. There's a loss of confidence and we are getting caught. If this is pretty passing football asthe pundits seem to suggest then you can stick it!

  16. Mine included, but you are only as good as your last game..............and his last game was poor. How long would we put up with any other player making game changing errors?

  17. This would be my team: Brill Raven Warren Meekings Shinnie Tansey Draper Watkins Christie Ross Mckay Doran in for Watkins if he is fit. Can't see Hughes going with this though unfortunately.

  18. ....if you look at the footage, the fault with the goal really starts with Meekings; when the ball comes to him, he has time to turn to his outside and play it to Shinnie, who is unmarked. If you're going to paly this kind of football, you need players in every position with vision; they need to know what they will do with the ball before it comes to them, which means playing with threir heads-up all the time. Meekings clearly didn't know that Shinnie was in space and did the easy thing, but the pass was short and then Brill completed the shambles by trying to play it left instead of right (and off the park). To get back to the thread - I thought it was a good interview and he obviously is a motivator.

  19. One thing on the 2nd goal, apart from that I blame Meekings more than Brill: A German goalkeeper let back passes roll under his foot twice in the last 9 months, resulting in own goals. His name: Marc-Andre ter Stegen. This guy not only still has all chances to be called up for the World Cup, but will most certainly move to Barcelona this summer. Why should a keeper in the SPFL be treated like here if another who gets 100 times his salary makes the same mistakes?

  20. The post that sums up D U's goals most accurately from my perspective is Davies. Big mistakes caused I would add by mental and physical tiredness. First half I thought how the hell did this team hammer us five nil a few weeks ago.........we were at every ball first and they were just not in the game it was ours to win and win comfortably ............... second half where did ICT disappear to 'cause it just was not the '' same '' team, we were nervous, lackadaisical at times and downright naive in defence. Where we did show up well were on the few occasions we ran with the ball into the box and threatened them........ they got to used to our passing game, knew what was going to happen and read it well enough to make us look as If we didn't know what to do with it. Always easy to blame the keeper ( I've said this before ) but how exasperating it must be for Brill after so many bad experiences of bad pass backs over the last few games to experience yet another needless catastrophic example. Short passing in and around the box is asking for trouble also dallying there instead of pushing up to midfield as quickly as possible is another grave mistake.....get the ball out of the danger area then they wont score is always good philosophy. Time to set horses for courses, school the players in their best positions. We have a strong enough squad to be able to rotate now . We need goals.............. get our sharp shooters in there............... put our wing men in there to feed them.............Keep our midfield sharp and take the pressure of our defence holding a high line. Tiredness lost us the game.................. use the squad ................ it is good enough to win most of our remaining games.

  21. Hate to say "I told you so", but I did! There is no need to play people out of position (Vincent), when we have players (Ross/Williams) who can do the job. Likewise, Polworth got stick earlier in the season for poor performances, but he was playing deep alongside Draper - this is a specialist role and not one that everybody can adapt to. Last night, we saw what he's capable of in his natural, more advanced position. Brill's ****-up was a shambles - should have gone the other way (into touch if necessary!) Meekings did leave him short, though. Watch Christie's role in the build up to the goal - great movement and always looking for it. These guys are definitely deserving of their chance, and we now have the opportunity to experiment with them in the remaining games to get the system right. europe is a goner, I'm afraid,

  22. Manfer, that's out of order. At the second goal, Brill had to deal with about three back passes in succession, the last of which had half of United breathing down Meekings neck. He underhit it, end of. A mistake, but anyone could have done that. The first goal was a result of a pass across midfield, not defence, from Draper and Robertson skinned Raven. Brill actually had a few decent saves last night. In the first half, we had width from Watkins and Shinnie, but that decreased as Marley tired. He had a decent game up to that point. Vincent did some really good break up and linking work - exactly what he's there for - and provided an out for Raven and Marley. What no one seems to have mentioned was that we really should have levelled this game with Mckay's diving header and if we hadn't come bearing gifts at the back we would have won that game. There was nothing between the sides for most of it, so I look forward to us getting back on it on Saturday.

  23. Too many similar players in midfield who all want to do a 360 degree pirouette before passing the ball backwards. What a breath of fresh air when Polworth and Christie came on with some direct play and a goal that was worth freezing the nuts off for. If we'd had a few more shots from distance instead of trying to walk it in this result could have been very different.

  24. Disappointing result and performance tonight, but IMHO there could be several reasons involved. Fatigue definitely seems to have set in, and things need to be freshened up. Tactically it was poor. Draper, Foran, and Tansey in the middle are all one paced and this showed when we were trying to break, also Vincent out wide just doesn't work. Vincent is a good player but needs to be played in his best position. Dundee Utd put the shackles on Shinnie very well, something we never managed to reciprocate with Robertson, and Raven was exposed to him most of the evening. Foran had a stinker, with poor first touch and distribution all evening. As soon as he was hobbling he should have been hooked, as no person is bigger than the team. Foran is a fantastic ambassador for the club, but some of his rants were OTT last night. the Brill incident, and saw him giving Shinnie a talking to for not throwing the ball to him right? When clearly his touch was crap. The zip seems to have gone out of our passing, and everything is very laboured, with no quick threat on the counter. The second goal is being blamed largely on Meekings and Brill (with some justification), but during the 5 or 6 passes prior to the goal, there was no movement ahead of the defenders and not an out ball in sight. I know you have to clear your lines at time, but punting the ball aimlessly is not what you want to see. On a more positive note I thought Polworth made a difference when he came on, and was passing the ball in the right direction. I have criticised him in the past but he looked decent last night. Christie was also good when he came on, and it was great to see someone so young want the ball all the time, without any fear. look forward to seeing more of him. All in all disappointing, but still plenty to play for.

  25. "Too much water kills the plant and we keep telling the boys to go back to the well and they've done absolutely fantastic. "I just felt tonight there was a little bit of fatigue, but we'll dress them up and get them ready to go again." Hamilton really did us a favour in turning the big man down when he applied there. Absolutely fantastic he says. #togetherness

  26. 74 minutes gone, down 1-0 and the defence starts the obligatory passing it back and forth, dilly dallying about. Who else saw that 2nd United goal coming? Perplexed.

  27. Vincent virtually anonymous yet again tonight and also culpable at losing the ball in the build up to their first goal. What a waste having Ross and Christie on the bench. Not looking forward to seeing the blunder for their second.

  28. Yeah it really has to be Draper and Foran or Tansey. I'd want my captain playing, but there certainly isn't the room for Draper, Vincent, Foran and Tansey in the same 11. You've also got Polworth pushing for a start now. Ross should play more. I feel there are plenty of physical players to make up for his lack of presence, as he has better vision and guile for the defence splitting pass. He doesn't really give it away passing either. So ideally in an attacking midfield role. Be nice to see Christie play a bit more with Doran out. He clearly has something and now would good be a good time to get plentiful 1st team exposure. Rest some of the boys and get them to earn their spots back.

  34. OK. I'll bite! I wonder what you mean by negative response? Do you mean folk not backing the manager or people not agreeing with you? Your original post is the single most negative thing on this thread. If you wanted to simply gauge opinion why did you not simply ask "what do folk think of John Hughes' perfomance as manager so far?" And please don't get huffy and take every comment disagreeing with you so personally. We all respect your right to express an opinion. But please, if you don't wan't an argument, don't make a provocative statement to start a thread! And for the benefit of C_H2, I don't think anyone on here is actually saying Hughes is doing a wonderful job, folk are simply saying it is far to early to judge him one way or another.

      Chairman Ross Morrison resigns

Nothing official from the club as we speak, but the Inverness Courier are running with a story that Ross Morrison has resigned at 18:00 tonight 3rd June.  More to come as this story develops, but most fans are looking for more heads to roll.

Speaking exclusively to The Inverness Courier, Mr Morrison said he is leaving now because of the aftermath of the Fife move. “I believe it [the move to Fife] is the best way forward and I have to stick with my beliefs,” Mr Morrison said. “This is the reason I'm stepping down now.”

Reflecting on his time with the Caley Thistle, Mr Morrison said: “My six-year tenure with the club has had some great and some not so great times but through everything I was immensely proud to be the chairman of the club and clubs I’ve supported for 50 years - I was a Jaggie by the way.

“I would ask the fans to rally round the club at this time and show their support by not only purchasing their season tickets but also getting involved directly with the club to see how they can help.

“Hearing fans saying they would prefer administration to training the first team in Kelty sent a shiver down my spine. Administration is a desperate thing to happen to a club and must, at all cost, not happen to ICTFC.”

    • Kelty Hearts Training Statement
What a farce we have become, a laughing stock: Did you hear the one about the footbal team from the Highlands of Scotland that want to train at Cowdenbeath? Unfortunately, unlike our board, this is not a joke. Our board are trying to rip our identity from the Highlands and replace it with shared training at Kelty Hearts. I kid you not, this is not a drill and the clowns that run our club appear to be delighted at this coup.

RELEGATION STATEMENT: This could have been said ten minutes after our defeat to Hamilton three days ago. So far, this is not the news that we on Caley Thistle Online wanted to hear. Pleased that we will still function as a club, disappointed that resignations have not been offered yet. Keeping fans waiting in silence for three days is unforgivable and relationships are drifting further apart than ever before. Silence is not the way forward, we deserve better as fans.

    • Inverness CT 2-3 (3-5) Hamilton - Play off final (relegation)
RELEGATED: Despite Inverness needing to get off the mark quickly, it was Accies that killed the tie inside the first fifteen minutes with strikes from Kevin O'Hara and Lewis Smith. Cammy Kerr reduced the leeway with a good strike from distance, but O'Hara struck again with a penalty before the break to diffuse the revival. We struggled to create anything of note and this reporter could not stomach any more and left the stadium. I'm told Alex Samuel pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but like the rest of the season it was too little too late.
