  1. So rather than posting on this thread to condemn the sick shameful chants and those who were responsible you have twice now posted to be critical of those who were offended but may have been too far from or felt too intimidated by those mindless yobs to intervene personally. Those brave enough to intervene should be applauded. Those who might have felt themselves to frightened to confront those intimidating individuals have every right to comment on this forum without it being suggested that they were cowards or hypocrites for not acting at the time.
  2. Although I normally wouldn't argue with the sentiment you expressed, I don't think it was necessary to put it like that on this thread. It comes across as a bit pompous and self righteous to me, and that you are just defending the comments you made earlier when you called folks cowards and hypocrites for not taking direct action against the inappropriate singing.

I personally don't give two hoots how many we take to away games. Being a football fan is an expensive pursuit so if people have to pick games then I'd far rather see ICT fans handing over money at the TCS turnstiles than at any other stadium.
  4. Yogi has been saying for weeks that he wanted to find a balance between the old style of play and his ultimate vision for the team...last night he managed that. I don't think he's deliberately abandoned the use of wingers in previous games...you need two of them fit to play that system for a start...and I also don't think we played them in the same manner as we did under previous stewardship. Aaron & Marley did a lot of squeezing in towards the middle which gave Carl & David ample opportunity to get down the flanks....often unmarked, with space and time to pick their final ball in to the area. The biggest plus for me last night was how well we coped without Ross & Richie in the middle of the park. I'm an advocate for having a couple of bigger guys in there to break up the play and win the physical midfield battle, but Greame and Greg did a fantastic job and offered pace from the middle which caused C*unty real problems....actually think Graeme may turn out to be a better central midfielder than he is left back, and he's one of the top left backs in the country. Billy was still dropping back a fair bit during the game, but when he did someone else was pushing up to take his place and preventing the C*unty back line pushing out on us. What's more, as a team we were constantly pushing further up the park and breaking from defensive situations in bigger numbers. Huge confidence boost for the squad and manager to finally get some just reward for all the effort. No idea where the lads found the energy from to go at the pace they did for 93 minutes, I'd be surprised if any of them moved far from the sofa this weekend. Two week break from matches (for most), but they'll be back in for training on Monday and with some time to get practical sessions in I can only see us going from strength to strength in the final 5 games of the season.
  5. I think a hypocrite in this situation would be someone who was singing the chant and then came on here to condemn it. I don't think it is fair to call someone a hypocrite who decides not to take their attention away from the game and squeeze themselves between all the other fans in the their row, then to find a steward / police officer to make their complaint to before going back to their seat (and missing an Aaron Doran wonder strike in the process). We spend enough energy telling the referee how to do his job without telling the stewards and police as well.
  6. It is disappointing that this is being discussed again as the same ignorant chant was made at the game in Dingwall earlier in the year and was condemend on this forum then. It is disappointing because one might have hoped that those responsible would have reflected on it after the last match and realised that whilst they might have thought it funny / clever first time round, it really was well over the line. Secondly, it is disappopinting that nobody in the club appears to have taken any action after the last match. This could either have been to have a word with a few of the folk in the singing section to get them to acknowledge that the chant was not appropriate and to pass on the word to others that it is not on, and/or the club could have had a word to the stewards / police to ask them to intervene in the event that this chant was sung. Thirdly, it is disappointing that the police or stewards did not intervene on their own initiative. Surely they aren't so dumb that they don't know that the chant was offensive. Whilst the fans pay good money to watch a game of football, the stewards and the police are being paid to do a job of work and I don't think it is unreasonable to expect them to do their job. Yes it would be good if more folk had the guts to get out of their seats and have a word with those doing the singing but please let's not condemn those that don't. I personally have seen some guy (quite a big guy at that) being subject to a tirade of aggressive abuse from 3 or 4 young adults in their 20s or 30s when he tried to intervene on some other offensive chant. It is little wonder that others stay in the seats and expect the stewards and police to do what they are being paid to do. I should, of course, add, that it would also be nice to see these people do their job amongst the home support at Ibrox and Celtic Park.
  7. Strikes me that far too many people seem content to sit quietly at the time of these problems...offended, but not so much that they wish to take action themselves...and then come on to the internet and moan and complain that others aren't doing anything.

All those who boycotted should be feeling rather silly now They missed a great game, you follow your team through the bad times as well as the good An important lesson learned I reckon Dougal
  9. Well, life's like that --one minute you think you are the bees' knees, know your job very well , are full of ideas about this and that including performance, and then life stops you in your tracks and dishes out a cold shower that leads to increased humility. And greater caution as to when you open your mouth. It shut up the negative naysayers though, didn't it! And I still think that John Hughes, by speaking the word "educate" truly meant "educate the players in my methods" rather than any attempt to put the players down. In his after-the-match interview he really sounded pumped and re-energised. That's good --this will bring the whole team, the Manager and the big boss upstairs (whose reaction after the game has been duly recorded on this site ) together as a very close unit. I'm looking forward to this being a good end to the season now, with lessons learned and growth recommenced. And congratulations and praise to big John for making changes and corrections because it show his flexibility and dedication to ICT.
  10. Me too :)).... There was plenty Police and Stewards beside them why can they not step in . They need to be named and shamed and they may think twice next time .someone knows who they are. They are a disgrace to the club.
  11. As a loyal caley fan I was completely mortified at our fans singing about brittains wife jumping off the kessock bridge. Having a newborn baby Is hard enough without depression. This girl has been through hell and as a mother I cannot imagine sitting at a football match listening to mindless idiots singing about my personal and very difficult circumstances. Shame on you all !
  12. At a home game v Celtic, there were supporters in the North Stand a few rows in front of me buying soft drinks quite a few times during the first half - it then became apparent that they were not ICT supporters (no cheering for ICT and, by the v signs given to the Main Stand towards half time)and then it became obvious they were topping up their soft drinks with alcohol secreted within their clothing. Although several persons around me commented, only I went forward to speak to the nearest Steward. He wanted me to point out the persons! but I told him I didn't have a yellow jacket, nor was paid to do his job, but for him to use his eyes and spot them - although I did say whereabouts he should be looking. From that moment, if looks could kill I would have been dead, the stewards gave me such bad looks, until, eventually, the "fans" lifted their half bottles to their soft drinks and were spotted and evicted. It is very difficult for fans, especially ladies, to go to stewards and complain, as they are then noted and could be victims of abuse.
  13. I dream of a day when people put as much energy into actively changing things as they do to sitting around shouting for others to be doing it. When that day comes, ICTFC will achieve more than any of us could imagine.
  14. Also i dont think its fair that those who attend regularly home and away and behave themselves are being victimised because of the actions of a minority!
  15. Everyone is missing the point! The drum was not allowed in to the ground due to 'stadium regulations' not because of 'thuggish' behaviour or 'sick' songs. Whilst at the same time County fans were allowed their drum only 100 yards away. That is the problem here! County also have a 'thuggish' element who throw smoke bombs and sing sick chants but it appears 'stadium regulations' doesnt apply for them? Funny coincidence.... That is what i want CJT to challenge here. It appears one rule for them and one for us.
  16. Wasn't able to get to the match but I am hugely encouraged by the reports and the little one sees on the highlights. The previous week was one of rather alarming developments with both what we saw on the pitch and heard off it. I don't think I have ever been as exasparated about the way a team has been instructed to play as I was against Motherwell midweek. It does sound as though Yogi has listened to criticism and hopefully he will be comitted to using width as an essential part of an exciting passing style of play. Clearly Doran was hugely influential yet again. IMHO Doran is the player around which the play revolves when the team play well. The more I see of Watkins the more impressed I am with him and have long been an advocate of Shinnie as a central midfielder. Comments about Billy being burnt out seem to have been found to be misplaced, with a bit of width and drive the chances were coming and Billy looked pretty sharp for his goal. With Draper back and Tansey replacing Vincent further forward I think we have a line up capable of playing a style of play which is perhaps, as CaleyD says, a compromise bewtween the Butcher style and the vision Hughes has. This balance seems the right style for the very talented squad we have available for next season and all the ingredients are there for a really exciting end product. It will be interesting to see whether Hughes sticks to this for the rest of the season or tries to add in other elements of his longer term vision too soon.
  17. Unfortunately Dougal I can only agree with you.......
  18. Well said Dougal ...then maybe this thread wouldn't have been in vain.
  19. http://caleythistleonline.com/page/index.html/_/reports-2013-14/ross-county-v-inverness-ct-report-r1156 full report and video now added to main page The players and fans were kept in the dark once more at the Global Energy Stadium in the Highland derby. No problem with the lights this time, but referee Craig Thompson kept everybody in the dark with his ludicrous indecision and error strewn display................read on
  20. Reading this thread reminds of the old saying 'Fools criticise a job half done' Now it is my opinion that it was not just County that strengthened their team since the start of the season and if so called pundits on here cannot see that the opposition is playing better now than they did at the start of the season, then they are indeed fools. We did start well.... against weakened sides .... however these teams have all knitted now, especially Aberdeen, Dee Utd, and Ross County.. just to name three! Maybe now this topic can be binned as even BT were on about the fans not happy with the manager and I feel this is unfair on the manager, players and the more knowledgeable Board but most of all on the majority of fans of ICT who have more wit than come on here and spout utter nonsense, when a playing plan is unfolding. You lot resemble youngsters going on a journey and start shouting "are we there yet" before the car is out of the drive! Give it a rest .... you did not get your choice of manager ... get over it!
  21. I'm happy to raise it at our meeting next week.
  22. Me too :)).... There was plenty Police and Stewards beside them why can they not step in . They need to be named and shamed and they may think twice next time .someone knows who they are. They are a disgrace to the club. Exactly. Not sure why officialdom didn't step in. Much worse than the G word chants the police get so worked up about IMHO
  23. There is nothing positive about vile insensitive personal abuse of this nature. Racist comments were once considered 'football banter'. Thankfully, that attitude has long since been consigned to history. High time this sort of thing went the same way.
  24. Either that or we need to reach more semi finals.
  25. Could it possibly be that they are a bunch of jealous, vindictive bestards ?
  26. It is all very well to say we should go to police/ stewards if we have a problem. To do that you would have to point out the offending individuals and no doubt be seen doing this. Having one time told fans to moderate their behaviour or I would complain to stewards I was subjected to threats upon my person. Never again. These were not our own fans but Old Firm fans sitting among us in North Stand. I heard the song in question on Friday night but didn't catch the words. Hopefully most others didn't either. Our fans are fantastic at leading the singing at away games - it is just a small mindless minority that spoil it for others.
  27. Well Mr Chief, you may find this difficult to accept but I am in no way angry at comments re our manager - disappointed, of course - I would rather a united fan base and this would leave no room for BT SPORT to offer an opinion that Hughes is under pressure from the fans. He is NOT under pressure from the fans but from, as I have stated , a small number on here who I feel are wanting instant success from a new system. Now as far as being personal, I merely replied direct to you as I am doing at this point and if you feel this is too personal, I apologise.
  28. They are doing something. They are highlighting the behaviour and their disgust at it in the principal online forum for fans to voice such concerns. The OP seems enrolled specifically to make this very important point. For that, she deserves credit rather than criticism.

Still nothing from Mahonio?! He must be working. To be fair, he'll be glued to the Davis Cup on TV, but I'm sure he'll send in a 'selfie' later on....of his face. Covered in egg!!!! Anyway, interesting point, Dougal, about Brora wanting to take a stranglehold of the Highland League. I wonder if they, or any other club, are 'allowed' to renege on their play-off and pass it on to the runners-up (and so on). Or would Spartans (for example) go straight-through to play the bottom league team? I would love for Brora to make the Scottish League - the central-belters wouldn't be quite so enamoured!
  30. Appears to me that as someone with the answers to everything that you'd be a great addition to the board of CJT....you'd get my vote.
  31. Maybe Caleyjagsforever could add this topic at their next meeting it's all very well admitting the chants were offensive but without action the problem won't go away A closer working relationship with the club and the authorities should help weed out the troublemakers I blame movies like football factory and green street, school children are easily lead and they think that kind of behaviour is sadly acceptable Dougal
  32. I did feel the stewarding was a bit OTT at the game. (but with smoke bombs, some chants, etc it makes arguing for a drum more awkward). I suppose they get to practice stewarding with a relatively small and compliant group because lets face it when a big support comes north from the 4 cities they would not be wading in about them the same for risk of a reaction. See this all the time and it just annoys me. Think they got the seats on the cheap at Dingwall too. My allocated seat was split in two. Serious point though the seats were getting belted by the ball and shattering when the team were practicing shooting during warm up (admittedly if we could've hit the goal it wouldn't have been a problem ).
  33. Izzy, I'm sorry if you accidentally misread what I was saying, but a couple of points. I have made it clear that I would have found this offensive and acted (as I have previously done). You must also realise that the police will only act if there has been a complaint in this respect. It seems there was none. The teams that you think we bear no comparison to are football teams who have fans as well, of all types who can be offensive as well.. I have a long background as a professional in mental health, and find your (erroneous) implication that I would minimise the effects by "making excuses" a bit - to quote you - offensive. I did not mean to offend anyone Davie and I apologise if you have been offended .I take your point about the Police and had I been closer I would have said something .I can't imagine how offended Richard Brittains wife feels and its her I was speaking up for . I too have worked in Mental Health Davie and this is why I feel so passionate about it. Reading OTB there are fans on there stating how there are a few of our fans going to get our club into trouble with that particular song. I hope I have explained myself and my apology is accepted, but my views on the original post does not change.
  34. One swallow doesn't make a summer. absent friend: you seemed to think all the criticism was because of one lost match in the cup. It's not. Nor is it about one derby. Yogi deserves his moment but that doesn't make him a great manager. Or even the best we could have. Hughes has to 'educate' himself from this win. If he learns from this, fantastic. Everyone's happy. I continue to have my severe doubts. But why not let the team and manager have their moment without this 'they one a single match so it proves Yogi is the new Fergie' argument?
  35. Great game last night and a well deserved win for us, well done to all the team for the excellent performance :clapping: As for the support Dougal I thought it was a good turnout from ICT with the game on a Friday night and on TV where people can watch it in the comfort of their own home or in the pub with a few beers. There are some supporters who will not go to Dingwall and pay money to Ross County. It is the same when its ICT v County they bring a small support which include many Inverness County fans!
  36. Flares - were you still wearing them in 1994?
  37. I'll be in Sheffield so not quite close enough I'm afraid.
  38. Excellent match, even watching the above clip, Doran scores a goal, Yogi does a Broonie pose, The fans go wild, wild, wild. and I just smile, smile, smile
  39. In my opinion....if not for Kenny Cameron we could easily (if we were lucky to avoid going bust) be playing part-time football in the (now) 2nd division.
  40. But I would take the responsibility becos I am one of the most law abiding, politically correct, mature and righteous individual in our support.
  41. LOL but I am reliably informed that it is a piccy of Doofers Dad expressing the freedom of retirement.
  42. This needs to be stamped out now, I would imagine that people know who was involved in this, name them. I will be asking for a ticket next to the singing section at the next game in Dingwall, and I will 'self police' if this happens again. If people think something like this is wrong, people should take action If in the unlikely event these people every manage to form a relationship with the opposite sex and actually persuade someone to let them reproduce I sincerely hope this never have to suffer this terrible illness.
  43. Im not one usually to take offence. I think the world has gone too soft on petty things, like the throwing about of the term racism and bigot everywhere. BUT, i do think that singing about a mother who is struggling with the birth of a baby is in very bad taste. mabye these dickheads who were singing about it, will go thro it in years to come....and we will see how amusing it is then!
  44. song was a total disgrace we don't need it - obviously the content -pathetic-plus the tune is associated with the blue half of the old firm- we do not want to have any link with them! apart from this it was a great atmosphere that we should be trying to keep up- lets drop the crap and keep the noise!
  45. Utterly disgusting! Richie Brittain is far game his family however are not!
  46. I agree totally with Frizzle I was near enough to hear exactly what was being sung and it was absolutely disgusting also Richard Brittain was within earshot and responded with a thumbs up gesture to these numbskulls. It was embarrassing to be associated with them. Anyone who is flippant about this is no better than these idiots .Ok it was only a few but enough to be heard and in my view one is one too many . There have been ill judged songs before but to aim at someone with the problems that Richard Brittains wife has is as about as low as you can stoop .You know who you are and you can all hang your heads in shame.
  47. Watched the match on BT so it was not clear what was being sung. If what you say is true then the perpetuators should be singled out and put out! The behaviour of some of these young men and children is a disgrace that does nothing for our reputation. I have watched, along with stewards and police, as the mob chant/sing foul and abusive phrases but nothing is done. I know we need to keep our numbers up but do we really want these people in our ranks? neksor
  48. I Don't see many games as I live in Spain but has our drop in results not run in tandem with McKays drop in form - and is that dow to tatics or is Billy just going through a Barren patch. I think what it does show is that we need to sign at least one striker this summer to give Billy back up/ competition. so I would leave Hughes there give him a chance in the transfer window and see where we go from there
  49. Brill is actually well on the way to rivalling or bettering the amount of clean sheets in a season at 20 (a record currently held by Ryan at 23) This doesn't tally with the current hand-wringing about him. He makes the occasional mistake and as a goalkeeper is in the full glare of publicity - nowhere to hide and all that. For the manager to drop him at this stage in the season and with that kind of record would be odd in the extreme. If you looked at his averages for kick completions etc., I'd be surprised if he was worse than anyone else in the league, apart from Forster. I certainly couldn't see Hughes behaving towards him in the same way that Adams has towards his goalkeepers this year and thank goodness for it. In terms of Hughes, I still feel that Wednesday night had width in the side and it was a game that we could have taken something from and that against a side that has a massively better playing budget than ours and a commensurately massive level of debt attached to it. So does Aberdeen. So does Motherwell (although their debt figures are better) Celtic are ahead of everyone else. So where does that leave us? As high in the table as we are likely to ever logically be. Football is good at defying logic though, but a small and increasingly knackered squad is less likely to challenge it. As well as the physical demands, the mental strain of two or three games a week for weeks on end catches up. I know that people expect high standards, but they are bound to vary. It wasn't the "rubbish" that others have posted. There's a case for bringing Christie, Polwarth et al in but not yet at least en masse, not until our season is over. We are 5 points behind United with a game in hand. Our next games are against St Mirren (with Motherwell in the middle) and County, theirs are against Aberdeen and Celtic. Which would you rather have? After the split everyone will take points off each other. Season over? Don't think so, and with all due respect it's a bit short sighted to contend that it is. There's much concern about the current passing from the back game that we seem to be adopting. Getting the ball up the park as soon as possible appears in post after post, despite the fact that Butcher was lambasted for that approach in his early reign - keep the ball on the deck was the cry at that time. Of course it's early in Hughes's reign but their are signs that he wants an already passing team to do it even more. Can that be bad? With a fresh team and more options, especially up front we might see a different beast next year. Some of the criticism and language directed at Hughes recently has been saddening. Ok the guy doesn't have a PHD in english, but did he have to? The remarks scattered around on here about his command of english are a poor reflection. He is a far more insightful and perceptive individual than his predecessor who is wedded to the ideas of the club, not his own personal power base. He is far more open and frank and engages on a far more equal basis. If he deals with the players in the same manner, I am more than happy that they will buy into his philosophy and take the club forward. That has to be better than the constant carping, sniping and infighting that is the alternative.
