I am disappointed although not surprised that it has come to this. Firstly, it's only proper to give credit where it is due. John Hughes deserves much, although far from all of the credit for our fantastic and historic success last season. I am fairly sure that that will represent the pinnacle of his career and while we are grateful for his contribution he should also be grateful to the club and Kenny Cameron in particular for giving him the opportunity when his stock was so low that Morton fans were horrified that he might be appointed to their manager's seat which was vacant at the same time as ours. Whilst last season will, in my view prove to be the height of John Hughes's career, It won't be the height of the club's. They might not come round with great frequency but there will be managers in the future who will win silverware for ICT and lead the team into Europe but Yogi will always be the first and will always have his place in our history. He could, in these circumstances have walked away with his head held high if he had been honest and straightforward and told the chairman that he could not improve on this frankly disappointing season on the money, a record sum for us remember, being made available to him. Instead he chose to sign a new contract which is highly lucrative to him personally and only then try to blackmail and bully the directors very much into the public domain into giving him funds that he had already been informed were impossible without risking the club's future. Yogi has form in this respect and did precisely the same thing at Falkirk. Their board caved in and gave him money which he squandered on duds and has beens resulting in their relegation and very nearly financial oblivion. Hibs are another club yet to fully recover from his mismanagement. I am pleased that our board has not capitulated and have put the long term viability first. Yogi, by acting in the way he has has cleverly ensured that he walks away with a wedge of ICT cash but in the process has, in my view severely tarnished that place he earned in the history of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. There will be uncertainty for a spell, we will have to examine the way we do these things in the future but the club will go on and personally I am now looking forward to the new season with a great deal more enthusiasm and sense of optimism than I was a few days ago.

Russel Latapy with Richie Foran as assistant!
  3. Foran and Esson as Assistant might facilitate the retention of Deano. Both Richie and Ryan are very fit people with significant drive.
  4. I would be intrigued by the combination of Russell Latapy as manager, and Richie Foran as assistant - wouldn't bet a fortune on the results, but it could just work...

Interesting times. I assume if this fiasco comes to fruition then it will be the first time a manager has decided to walk out of our club in such a manner. Irrespective of the outcome I think it is probably time a full top to bottom assessment of how the club is run needs to be performed and the lessons learned taken on board as what is currently playing out is not showing the club in a positive light. The internal bickering and displays of egotism does not promote a happy environment and all those involved need to remember we are no longer a highland league club where this type of thing was a lot more commonplace. It will be interesting to hear the player's views on this as many of them appeared to be happy with the playing side of the club. Anyway the quicker this is resolved the better and the club can move on and hopefully learn some important lessons from this debacle.

Overall I'm disappointed that it has come to this. The Raven situation and the recruitment in the last 10 months or so are certainly black marks beside Yogi's name. However, I would argue that Yogi has done much more good than bad. The technical improvements in Warren, Draper and Tremarco are down to Yogi in my opinion. The style of football, although not quite everyone's cup of tea, is mostly good I think. He must also be given credit for introducing Christie to the first team squad as soon as he was appointed manager (Butcher gave Christie no game time). Personally, I am not too concerned for next season. There is the makings of a solid team still at the club. In a new manager I would like to see someone like Steve Lomas - young but with a bit of experience in Scottish football. I'd like to see any new manager be willing to be a bit more tactically adaptable i.e. If we're passing it about nicely but not going anywhere or creating anything let's go direct or mix it up in some way. I would also hope that the new manager is open to the idea of resigning Raven and Roberts. I will remember the Yogi era with pretty fond memories. Onward we go! (I reckon if we'd had a pacey striker eg. Storey/Watkins/Mckay in July we could be remembering Yogi as the man who'd led us to a European tie against West Ham)

Smashing post there from Kingsmills. Also, Calderwood is a terrible shout although I suspect the suggestion was in jest. We're looking like we're getting rid of someone who is trying to bully the club. We don't need another bully coming in.

what is this ... Ikea ?
  9. Who do I want as manager? Someone who wants to be here!
  10. 3 points
Nailed it Kingsmills! You wonder if Yogi misjudged the mood of the fans...or did just not care and was in this for himself? What I mean is, did he believe that, on the back of the cup win, he'd get the backing of the fans against the board as he pushed for a bigger budget, to the extent that he'd eventually get his way? Or was he actually looking for an exit that he could engineer to also get a pay-out? I'm not sure - but what I am sure of is that he's not as good as he thinks he is and, like several managers before him who felt they'd outgrown the club, I doubt he'll ever emulate the success he got here.

This has been coming for some time. i agree with many of the comments, but it creates uncertainty and worry. I hope the Board move quickly to get a new Manager in, as otherwise we will struggle to have a squad in place. The right appointment may encourage some players to sign on again, such as Raven or Roberts, but there is no chance if this becomes a drawn out saga. I have an open mind about Foran. He is a motivator, but the lack of experience is a downside. It could work if he has an experienced assistant, or if he becomes assistant to an experienced Manager. Whoever it is, they need a good scouting network and contacts, to find the Drapers and Tanseys of the future. A willingness to give game time to some of the youngsters would not go amiss either. Personally I find the situation very sad. Two dramatic semis and two finals, one of which is my highlight as a fan, with Hughes in charge, so he should go with our thanks and best wishes. I am worried about next season (but I always am) but just hope that we get a united front: Board, Manager and fans all pulling the same way, and working for the best of the club. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the positive times and memories Yogi!
  12. McCall with Foran as no.2!

John Hughes He has to be held as a club legend in his 2 and a half year spell, he won the scottish cup and took us to europe and a league cup final, not forgetting our highest ever league finish. He certainly went through his ups and downs, but in 50 years time what will he be thought of by ICT fans? He will be known as the man who brought the worlds oldest trophy up to Inverness. In 22 short years we have done what some clubs have not managed in over 100. We may never win it again, but he brought happy memories to every ICT fan. some people won't be happy he has gone, who knows what goes on behind the scenes, but to become an established premiership club in the last 10 years with only 1 little blip is incredible. The John Hughes chapter in ICT folklore is over. Whatever the board does, there will always be questions asked, there will always be mistakes made, but for all the success you have brought us. John hughes i thank you. Onwards and upwards into the next chapter. No matter who the next manager is i will be supporting ICT for years to come.
  14. How anyone with any self-respect would demean themselves enough to Butcher back is astounding. He treated the club like absolute dirt when he left.

Lots of people hating this decision, and tbh I can't make up my mind. Kingsmills post sums it all up nicely though. i don't agree however, with our perception in the media being tarnished bla bla! Perhaps, things could have been handled differently, but the board are operating without hindsight! To suggest that the board of a club at the highest level of Scottish football have 'no vision' is rubbish also. They might not communicate that vision, or the budget may not match that vision, but there will still be a long term plan in place. This may simply be 'survive' and to that end, they are succeeding. The club still exists, and for another season, exists in the premiership. However the new manager is, they will have a budget, and they will know from this, that the budget available is very inflexible, and 'if your not happy with that, don't bother trying to bully us' I actually think in this regard, the board looks quite strong. im happy they never yielded to the pressure, I only wish they'd taken that view before extending his contract. It would've saved money and face. good luck in the future yogi, thanks for the memories.

It's a shame that it's come to this and I'm sad to see him leave after last seasons phenomenonal success in particular. However we need a manager who is able to work, and deliver, with the budget constraints of the club and if Hughes does not feel he can then it might be best that he does go. Unfortunately Inverness will always lose their best players to top clubs and we cannot compete financially or indeed in terms of reputation with the likes of Aberdeen. It would be nice however for the club to learn from errors of allowing contracts to run down and losing talent such as Watkins, Shinnie, Hayes for nothing.
  17. After celtics announcement moyes is still available. On a more serious note we still have a manager officially . When will it all calm down .i picked up season ticket today and got pestered by stv.

I'm afraid the (non-existant) budget will determine who replaces Yogi. That means anybody in a job at the moment is out of the question and there won't be much affordable quality around in the guys out of work. Also, do we know what's happening with Brian Rice? There's always the chance that the new man will bring in his own assistant, which might mean more ocmpensation. My guess is that we will be compelled to go with Foran, assuming he is interested. If that is the case, it is a risk, but that could be mitigated by bringing in somebody experienced to work beside him. It might just be an inspired outcome....you just never know in this crazy sport!

From a financial perspective Foran was always the shoe-in. Would explain his comments pleading to stay - backing and being backed by Kenny C. The club would admit that they are taking a risk but honouring an individual who has served the club well. No lose decision in many ways apart from on the playing field. But could he do worse than last season ?

It's ridiculous that we've got ourselves into this situation. Only a year after our greatest ever season the board and manager having a playground spat. One thing I do want to say on this is that the same thing happened with Yogi at Falkirk. He eventually bullied the board into giving him a much higher budget and it ended in disaster. The signings didn't pay off and the club almost ended up in administration. I don't want want that to happen to us so if the manager can't work within the prescribed budget there's only 1 solution.

While he may have alienated some supporters with certain decisions I feel like we need to take a step back and look at what Yogi achieved at ICT.. I recall feeling utter deflation at his appointment at a time when I felt we could have attracted a manager of much higher calibre.. Yet the man led us to an incredible 2014-15 campaign that was beyond our wildest (realistic) dreams and delivered two top half finishes plus a 7th place when he basically had half a squad to choose from all season due to injuries. It wasn't that long ago when a top six finish was an unrealistic expectation yet we now seem to take it as a given despite consistently having one of the smallest budgets in the league. Yogi proved an inspired appointment and despite also feeling bewildered at several of his decisions I'm sad to see the guy go - he always delivered. All this adds to my faith in the board to make the right decision as to his replacement - even if it seems incorrect immediately afterwards. Every pre-season I find myself incredibly pessimistic as to our chances and ICT always outperform my expectations. Maybe they're too low, or maybe yours are all too high. Either way, I'm confident that in the grand scheme of things we'll look back on Yogi's tenure as a short but incredibly successful one and I wish him all the best in the future.

After some yogi bashing over performances and raven-gate I still wanted him in charge next season and was willing to give him a chance to rebuild but now he has gone I'm not really bothered. He deserves credit for taking butchers team, changing the style of play and reaping the benefits (3rd and cup winners). He tried to play the same way with his replacements and with key players out injured and it didn't work. I am pleased the board has been strong. All this lack of ambition chat is tedious. We had our most successful season ever last season, what was the increase in attendances? To have a bigger budget will involve years and years of engaging kids in Inverness with the club so they get hooked and so do the next generation. Adding a few more hundred or thousand onto the gate won't happen overnight it will take decades. Get used to better players and managers moving on, it's football.

goodbye yogi . I found your style of play very boring, so not bothered you are leaving. if you are lucky you may find another team just about to fulfil their potential as you did when you came to us.( missed Europe the year before after defeat in dingwall) you lost my support when you walked past thousands of our fans at the cup final. you walked from the corner flag where the players were celebrating with the cup past people shouting for you to stop so they could get a photo ( deffo not me), even a wave would have done some, to the half way line and gave a fist up to the Falkirk supporters before walking across the pitch to the main stand. butcher built the team that won the cup, and according to the club on a smaller budget than you operated on.

Should you not be drowning your play off sorrows ?

Must admit I have mixed feelings. He will always be associated with our best ever year (to date!), but if he feels he has done all he can, it may be the best all round. The Board is right to avoid over committing the club financially, as that would be a recipe for future disaster. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, getting the appointment of the new management team right is key. Most of all, I hope we get unity in the ranks to help us through a difficult time and hopefully set us up for a top six finish and a good cup run (or two) next season. I certainly believe we should be thanking Hughes for his part in our achievements.

Sure have, and the butterflies are just starting ...hope to see one of my teams lift a Cup for the second year running! (and end 26 years of hurt)

Doesn't explicitly state he has left although I assume that is what it is getting at. I wonder why it's stopped short of saying exactly that.

Form and a stubborn inability to learn from past mistakes, I believe it has been said elsewhere that Yogi is not as daft as many believe him to be but not nearly as clever as he thinks he is. How very true.
  35. 1 point
Many are looking at conspiracies and some even assume the board are to blame. Hearken back to Yogi at Falkirk. Took them to cup final and Europe then placed big demands on board. Falkirk board gave in to him and the club ended up very close to administration. As the saying goes 'Yogi has form'
  36. I remember the young Barry who suffered from the wingers disease, consistently inconsistent,, beat two players then cross it behind the goal, However he became a great performer for ICT which got him his move and as someone has said a great example to young players rejected by the big clubs.
  37. Oh well... with a name like Brendan that presumably ticks the box for being "Celtic Minded"!
  38. Thankfully, it won't be Gary Locke as he's gone to Raith. Phew!

Exactly this, hopefully recent developments will have the double bonus of enabling us to retain our fine and fully committed right back as well as being able to employ Meekings in his most effective position in central defence.

Terrible decision and poor suggestions, I don't agree with this philosophy in football that if they are an ex - player they should never considered manager material or they have a connection. Latapay would be a great choice but I don't know the real back ground to his departure so he may not want to come back, otherwise who is out of work and has proven record at this level or we can afford that isn't one of the boring failed examples in Scottish football like shields, Calder wood, Collins etc. Jim mcinally I'd consider to step up but in reality we may have to accept we won't get as good as yogi whoever comes in.

Foran for manager & Raven to assist. That won't break the bank & the team seem to respect them both. Only part joking

    Barry Ferguson!?

I would trust Richie Foran, and I would trust him to pick the right assistant. I also think we would be more direct in the final third. Dont suggest he would be the cheap option, as club captain, I would think Richie is currently well rewarded, potentially as good as any of our managers. Or are you meaning we dont have to buy a manager from another club, well when have we ever done that in the past?
  44. 1 point
I'm not as spooked by the idea as I would expect to be, Richie is certainly a leader - and his shouts on the pitch are usually the right ones.
  45. 1 point
Not my choice. He'd need a good assistant for it to be a success. Promoting someone to manage players he previously played alongside isn't always a good idea either, in any job for that matter.
  46. 1 point
There will be plenty of interest in our new managers job and I'm sure it's not only me who is excited awaiting to see who is interested. We have turned a page in our story and another chapter is about to begin P's onwards and upwards!

Can't really comment as I don't have a clue what's going on. Just have to wait and see what the future holds.

You're right about the hindsight. At the time we were all applauding the chairman for having the cojones to stand up to Thompson. We would have been calling him weak if he hadn't.

i just cant get my head round where Yogi is coming from, surely he knew the budget before he signed his contract, so to them come out and complain seems stupid. He made his position untenable at that point
  50. 1 point
Eh? The board have given the management team the biggest budget ever and broke into a rainy day fund to try and ease the injury crisis. It was Yogi who spent most of the time moaning about it and spending it on dross like Liam Hughes.
