I was thinking today at the match why is the Family Enclosures called kelvin bissett??

please could you answers this question!

thankyou!

Kevin Bissett was a referee from Inverness who suffered a brain haemorrhage. The Family Section was named after him.

He infamously refereed the game where Ross Tokely and Chris Kerr had a bad collision which left Kerr seriously injured. To this day Tokely, and Bissett, are still slated by St. Mirren fans angry that Tokely was never even cautioned for the challenge.

Kevin didnt ref that game - at least not according to Ian Broadfoot's records !!!! although to be fair, we did play them 3 times in 11 days and Kevin refereed one of the games up here so its easy to be confused. Colin Hardie reffed that game and gave Rossco a straight red.

A rather dull match with very few clear chances. Paul Sheerin netted the ball in 6 minutes but there had been a foul on the goalkeeper.  Just when extra time seemed inevitable Christie weaved on the left then sent over a cross to the back post ? Teasdale was in the right place to head home the winner for Caley Thistle.  Not a classic game but a satisfying win for the home side and a second round tie away against Hamilton.

For the second week in a row Caley Thistle beat St Mirren in a cup match.  For 90 minutes the sides were well matched but in extra time the home side created good chances and deservedly won 2-0.  In 104 minutes Charlie Christie was brought down in the box by Ross - Sheerin made no mistake with the penalty.  St Mirren offered little after that and the game was sealed a minute from time when debutant Kevin Byers capped a fine display with a 12 yard strike into the net.  Another long drive down the A9 for St Mirren with nothing to show for their efforts.

SAT 21st AUGUST 1999 LOVE STREET, PAISLEY   LEAGUE DIVISION 1

REFEREE ? C Hardie ATTENDANCE ? 3022

MAN OF THE MATCH ? Tommy Turner (St Mirren)    SENT OFF ? Ross Tokely (ICT)

For the third time in 11 days Caley Thistle faced St Mirren but they could not repeat their earlier victories.  The Saints gained revenge with a 3-2 victory leaving the visitors pointless at the foot of the table.  The match flared up in 21 minutes when a clumsy Tokely challenge on Chris Kerr led to tension amongst the players and a red card for the Caley Thistle player.  A Paul Sheerin penalty gave the home side the lead in 29 minutes but Saints scored three before half time.  Mike Teasdale made it 3-2 four minutes from time but the home side could not grab a point.

Hmmm, I could very well be wrong. It's just something the Saint Mirren fans bring up all the time when discussing that incident.

The incident definitely happened at Love Street and unless Tokely has nailed Kerr twice, I think i got the right game ...... It is (was) unusual for a local referee to do a match involving a team from their own hometown and tended not to happen unless the match was a midweek cup game with lots of travel involved or the original ref called off at short notice for some reason. Cant see Kevin reffing an ICT game anywhere other than the TCS for one of the reasons mentioned above, and even then it would have been rare

so he's a ref! I get it!!

He is an EX referee. He was a "grade 1" ref so equivalent to the likes of Hugh Dallas, Kenny Clark etc and personally i think he was far far better than some of the clowns we have now. It also has to be noted that despite his grade 1 status you would often find Kevin at the bught or at culloden pitches refereeing amateur league games for the local association. A really nice guy and well wothy of having the enclosure named after him. I believe that he is the only referee (in Scotland at least) to have received a testimonial game.
