  1. This is neither a "shambles" a "clusterf***" a "disgrace" nor a "disaster" by the Board. They had a number of applicants for the post that they whittled down to an interview and than a short list who were interviewed by the same selection criteria and John Hughes proved himself to them. As is their right, they then appointed him. There are opinions on here masquerading as fact, there are accusations without foundation and there are predictions of doom and disaster without a single shred of evidence. These do us a disservice. Please remember that CTO users are only a fraction of the ICTFC support but they are the fraction that gets the lions share of attention - and therefore can't be truly representative, but will get credence. I hanker for the old days when opinions were something that you discussed or argued over with a pint in hand and then they disappeared, not hyperbolic and ill judged internet statements that are around for the lifetime of the internet.

Cutting ones nose to spite ones face? If we finish 2nd and win a cup (or two as you mention) I will be abso-feckin-lutely delighted. Surely that's John's job for this season? You'd have him sacked for doing his job as well as we'd expect him to?
  3. Was Terry Butcher's managerial record prior to coming here not mediocre? Were the thoughts of Terry Butchers previous club's fans not somewhat negative? Did Terry Butcher not then go on to confound those same records and thoughts? John Hughes may not be what you had hoped for, but can you not give the man a slim chance before calling for the board to be sacked and describing the situation as a shambles? I personally think that to decry the new manager and the board before he's even got his feet under the desk is rash, premature and somewhat irrational. John Hughes will have my full support and trust, up until the point that he proves unworthy of that support and trust.
  4. Agreed, we can't even get the KO time in a cup semi final moved with reasoned argument, but Celtic seem to be able to move a whole league fixture to another calendar date altogether. Disgusted.
  5. ..and a translator for the non-scots in all the team. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when JH was being introduced to the players: Richie Foran: "........and tis is our number tree, Graeme Shinnie" John Hughes: "eh? Whit's a 'Number Tree'?" RF: "Eh?" JH: "Aw ye mean shree" RF: "No he's name's not Cheree, it's Graeme!" JH: "Eh?"
  6. I welcome John Hughes to Inverness. His record is similar (and certainly no worse) than previous incumbents and he brings a wealth of experience of dealing with success and adversity. His "style" of football at various clubs has been similar to the one that we enjoy every week. What he hasn't had is a great choice of move at Hartlepool and a slump at his second season at Hibs. Neither of these are things that he will carry into the job here.Bear in mind that he has won cups, got into europe and beaten off relegation (although I'm still torn about that one!) The man is a motivator. I think he realises the opportunity that has been handed to him here and the quality of the squad that will deliver for him. He seems to carry more far more respect in football circles than he has thus far been afforded on here, and he deserves more. I look forward to meeting the guy and whilst he will be a very different challenge (and hopefully a pleasure) to talk to than TB, I look forward to that. Let's get behind the guy.
  7. On the day that Scotland's 2nd best team make a shock managerial appointment, the Daily Record's response is to devote 90% of its back page to 2 separate, boring, non-stories about a team in the 3rd flight. I really shouldn't be surprised, but still.....
  8. I said in the beginning (offline to friends) that I would put my faith in the board to make the right choice on behalf of the (long term) future of the club and I'm sticking by it. Did we maybe get carried away with the pro-Hartley bandwagon, maybe? I was totally behind him for the job, but ultimately he has no experience at this level (though I was 100% up for giving him the opportunity here, seemed like a good match) and have to trust that the board made the best call given what they saw at interview. I always said that we needed someone who wanted the job, rather than needed it, and it's important that the role goes to someone who sees it as a passion and commitment rather than a job or a stepping stone. If it's true that Hartley was hesitant in commiting for family reasons then kudos to either him and/or the board for recognising it and stepping back. For me, one of the top priorities in appointing a manager was someone who is in it for the long term, and I can see Hughes being up for that. I don't see him as a gloryhunter or looking for a stepping stone, I think he is a genuine football man, with a passion level which is almost unbeatable. With the right team behind him and backing from the board, it could be a beautiful combination. Let's just hope that we are prepared to invest in a top support team, that element is a mystery at present. Obviously Yogi convinced the board that he was the man for the job, and having spoken to one of the senior players, he certainly convinced them too. I hope he doesn't read this board, whilst nothing bears any malice towards him it shows disappointment and that's not how I'd want any new member of staff to our club to feel. Two cup finals (and subsequent wins) and a minimum of second place in the league will certainly justify his appointment!

The RETURN of the dark glasses brigade...............I thought it was too good to be true. The Cub have a history of choosing the right people, have a bit of faith. To whom it may concern................... Have you thought, if the club could choose it's supporters would you be selected ?........................ Just thought I'd ask !!

CaleyThistle fans?? I can't believe what I am reading on here. A professional team selected him but of course the arm chair know alls are sure the team is incompetent . I agree that he will not have the name to attract some English players up here but... In my opinion, he will have a team of players prepared to run onto the park through shut doors for him. My only concern is the FORAN factor - let's hope they see eye to eye.
  11. I have no issue with Celtic going to Marbella - it's the fact that they plan to return that I object to.
  12. The lesson seems to be that, if you are a player who in your heart and mind doesn't want to work very hard for a place in the team and for the club, then you are in for a rude shock. Hughes can be very good for this club if he can find and encourage the right players. In this he seems to be very lucky right from the start since this team is already hard-working. So naturally he sees that he must go canny at first without too much that can go wrong for which he can be blamed, but the strength in this man will gradually come to the fore and he won't tolerate fools gladly or lazy players unwilling to buckle to and benefit from the motivational attitudes he will adopt towards these players and the expectations that he will have to flow back to him from them. The more I see and read about this man the more I realise why Kenny Cameron and the Board liked him and considered him to be a good fit for the club AT THIS STAGE, not least the fact that he was willing to do adequate preparation and study of the club prior to his interviews and : (a) how thorough he is . (b) how smart he is despite his Scottish brogue which merely defines his original place of origin and his earlier upbringing but does not depict what his true character is or what he has learned from life. © that he fully understands the necessity of hard work, the value of dedication to the task and that the players must pay attention to what he says or they will not learn from his experiences and grow and develop as a result. Looks like we could have a winner here with a hard edge to him but who has learned that temper displays and abuse of players might not always be the best way of going about things. But is willing to be honest and up-front with players and then moves on without bearing grudges. All I can say is good luck John.
  13. He once chased my mate down Greig Street insisting that he was Noel Gallagher. I think he lets go after a couple.
  14. I live and work in Aberdeenshire and have, as expected, had a steady stream of Aberdeen fans in and out of my office all days in a state of bewilderment at this appointment. Despite the usual wind ups a lot of Dandies I know have a bit of a soft spot for us and the universal view is that this is a regressive step for a club in our current position. I wholeheartedly agree with them for once. I sincerely apologise if my comments upset the sensibilities of the happy clappers on here but I was under the impression that this was a forum where supporters were afforded the opportunity to voice their opinions in a democratic manner. Apparently not.... A massively underwhelming appointment and anyone suggesting otherwise is kidding themselves on.

How about holding back on the adulation until he's justified it.
  16. Really cant see him saying what he said if he didnt want or like Hughes as manager. He has not only towed the line in what would probably be expected as captain but he sounds pretty happy about it and goes on to say he was the man the players wanted, he does actually start the interview with a grin on his face. If he didnt want Hughes there he could have just as easily said all the cliche's and left it at that? He goes well beyond that imo. Quite pleased after seeing that.
  17. Care to explain that statement? I don't think Foran looks very happy in that interview, to be quite honest.
  18. Richie Foran and the players don't appear to have any concerns....quite the opposite... And a few words from the Chairman as well...
  19. The ICT fans who know me will say the opposite, I will say the same things but much more strongly worded than I would ever type on here when I'm having a beer with them. Also I feel there is nothing I have said that I would not say to John Hughes face. I'm pretty confident he's big enough and ugly enough to not only listen but would appreciate why someone would have concerns. He'd then set out to prove you/me completely and utterly wrong. I've also said a few times that I have always liked him as a person. My main concern (and disappointment) was that we had joined the ranks of those teams that constantly appoint the same tired, old, merry-go-round management faces of Scottish Football, rather than some of the left-field, inspiring choices we've previously made. After watching the interview and John's body language in the club's video I'm more than happy to say I believe my fears were unjustified and that the board have got it right. And I'll say it again - the new manager has my full backing and I will be there cheering the team on on Saturday. Finally, if you or anyone else doesn't like my opinion on here then tough, that's all it is - my opinion. Many people post complete and utter bull5h1t on here as far as I am concerned, I'd rather some of them disappeared completely but they have as much right to type their opinion on these boards as you or I do.

No we don't! There's nothing official about Hartley even being interviewed. Anyway, I would suggest/speculate that he very much wanted the job, provided it was on his terms, but didn't get it because he wasn't prepared to show sufficient commitment by fully relocating.
  21. 2 points
I like the fact he looked nervous in the interview, nervous with an element of excitement - good, I'd rather that than any new appointment thinking that they were perhaps too big for us. The interview was positive from many angles. The king is dead, long live the King. Now... let's thrash St. Mirren.
  22. Okay, far from a popular choice and a good many of us have expressed reservations. However, he is now our manager and it is time to put these doubts and reservations to one side and give the man our full backing. Welcome John Hughes prove the doubters from and lead our club to even greater success. The League Cup and/or a place in Europe and you will have achieved in half a season what no other ICT manager has done in two decades. The king is dead. Long live the king.
  23. If Paul Hartley didn't want to leave his family, nor live in the Highlands, then WHY did he apply for the job in the first place? Was it at all possible that the size of his head got in the way of seeing the fine print and the brilliance of this golden opportunity to put him on the map? Or fear that he may not have been quite ready for this step up? For a man with a forward looking ambition this was a golden opportunity and so not taking advantage of it seems BIZARRE..there is something not right about all this..?? Anyway , what you see with John Hughes appears to be what you get and with him you will not be bored--maybe tickled pink or bursting with laughter at times. And HE is ready for this step because he needs to get back into Scottish football, he needs success and a chance to show that he is made from the right stuff. And he loves the game. How many assistants does he need anyway? He's got Foran waiting to be of great assistance, the backing of the club management and all he needs to do is work hard, motivate hard and be honest with his staff. It's the players who are putting the ball in the net anyway , not him . So, so long as they play to their capability and work hard then Bob's yer Uncle and Yogi's yer man. This is a golden opportunity for him and I think he will bust his gut for Caley Thistle. Therefore let's give the man a fair chance, his due and I hope his salary is acceptable to him.
  24. Just that no other team could ever afford to. The same as no other team would ever be invited to play in a 'glamour friendly'. These rules are only in place for the good of the OF. Rules were agreed by all clubs....if others didn't want it, then they could have rejected the proposal. Maybe one of the admins could do something here because it seems CaleyD's account has been hacked by Neil Doncaster
  25. FFS give the man a chance. I seem to remember Butcher getting huge negative comments from fans on here but eventually got plaudits for turning the team around although that took 2 to 3 years. While he may not be the man many wanted, at least it appears he wanted to come here unlike some others. Truly saddened by some of the negative posts and comments on this appointment.
  26. Going to nail my colours to the mast (again). I think I said it somewhere else in a distant or exceedingly long thread in the last couple of weeks, but I dont have an issue with Hughes. Liked him as a player, liked him when he was in the away dugout on his visits to the TCS, and despite sounding somewhat inarticulate in interviews due to his accent, he's not a stupid man if you actually listen to what he is saying rather than being swayed by the accent. As to his record? Butcher had a stellar record before coming here did he not? no, thought not!!! I dont give a crap about his past record, its what he does at ICT that matters.

Confusing a welcome and adulation? spelt different for a start...
  28. What I find very interesting about the Assistant Manager appointment is the approach Yogi is taking. It could be very easy for a football manager to take one of the guys they have worked with before as an Assistant. Yogi wants to see how the players and current coaching staff operate and choose someone that will be suited well to not only being his Assistant but suited to the club as well. That shows so much respect for the club and the players. This makes me trust in him that he really is the right fit for the club.
  29. 1 point
Aye, welcome Yogi! seemed to say all the right things during his interview, acknowledged how well the team were doing and said he not have to do much, just keep this spirit as is. Good enough for me.
  30. Foran looked pretty chirpy to me and I was convinced by what he said. The story is simple: ICT get to a final and/or 3rd in the league - Hughes makes history as most successful ICT manager ever. Not manage any and he'll probably be seen as a failure (however unjust that may be). By the way, if he wins all 3, I'll personally chisel a statue of Yogi out of Daviot stone with my teeth! Anyway, let's get behind the whole team and see where the rollercoaster takes us - I'm quite chipper now, after the anticlimax!
  31. If anyone hasnt seen here is Kenny and Richies reaction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl1KF_MepWA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMWrHotIHCo&feature=youtu.be
  32. Having been a wee bit deflated by the managerial choice, I'm kind of hoping that the assistant will be a name that inspires me, one that looks like forming a great management duo and who could potentially be the next manager. We all know that the last management regime was successful despite comprising flawed individuals - but between them they had all bases covered and it worked well.
  33. Well its now official and I am sure that John Hughes will give the job 110% , just as he was as a player, was not my first choice but will get my full backing which every supporter should do and then if things go wrong that is the time to start moaning. I see from the club statement that he will choose his own assistant that might be from within the club -- Richie Foran a possibility
  34. A good interview with Hughes: http://ictfc.com/news/club-news/1115-its-john-hughes He's done himself no harm with that - bags of enthusiasm. Now let's see the substance!
  35. Sky Sports said they'd be live in Inverness throughout the day.. So that will be 5 mins towards the end after a long cricket report.

Here's a post from P&B from a Falkirk fan about Hughes. This was made at the time he was manager, it isn't hindsight.
  37. We will more than likely never know the true ins and outs but the board have selected Yogi as the man for the job based on the applications they received and thus there is no reason to continually go over the whats, ifs, buts and maybes. Tomorrow we will have a new manager and we all know who it is going to be so can we stop this and move on together please? TogetherNESS
  38. 1 point
You all do realise this Hughes playing good football thing is a total myth?
  39. 1 point
Personally I would have liked Hartley, but I have faith in the board, they have made successful appointments in the past so why not now? As a fan of ICT i support and follow the club and the players and if Hughes is the man in charge I will give him my backing and support. We have a strong team in a good position and the last few games have shown they know what they are doing so this gives him time to settle in and learn the players and club, then hopefully gel and build relationships to move us forwards.

Gone for 'Pleased - He's a decent choice' Out of all the candidates mentioned in media / speculated about on here Yogi was in my top 3. I think I voted for Shiels in the other poll though. However my reasons for being happy with Yogi are as follows (in no particular order): Great motivator and a natural leader. I've always thought he comes across as the type of manager that players would work their socks off for. He tries to play on the deck football. He is a real character in the Scottish game - good rapport and engaged with local community at Falkirk / Hibs. Very big on youth development. Reasonable record in Scotland. Did well at Falkirk and very well at Hibs in his one full season there. He's not been officially appointed yet though but i'm assuming he will be the manager. Welcome aboard :)

Poor Yogi - I wonder if all those brave, mouthy critics (who probably haven't a Scooby what they are talking about) would slag him to his face! I don't think so . I think his success will depend on how strong his coaching and fitness team will be.
  42. Or bonfire night when your expecting one last massive boom as you know its coming to the end and then.... is that it? Or when you strike up an online relationship with the girl of your dreams, for weeks you spend every waking moment looking forward to the time when you can actually meet up and fulfil your relationship, then when the time comes it actually turns out to be a fat middle aged man called Nigel with a combover and poor personal hygiene, but you kind of feel obliged to go along with it and make the best of the situation. No wait.....
  43. Actually sitting and thinking about it maybe it isn't as bad as it seems. Craig Levein was first name that was tipped favourite to get the job. Although that would have been a great signing in terms of the name and profile of Levein his wage demands would have been far too high for us. Henrik Larsson or John Hartson again would have been great signings for the name and profile of these individuals but again wage demands would have been high for us. Realistically this left us with Paul Hartley, Kenny Shiels and John Hughes. Now, the personal reasons that Paul has declined us for seem pretty straightforward and I can only sympathise with him as sometimes life is more important than football. So this left us with Kenny Shiels and John Hughes. Both of these men are very good at motavation and that's something that Terry Butcher did apply to us and we've raised to the top with this outlook on football. Kenny Sheils although he has a great work ethic, he comes across a loudmouth pr*ck to the media like we heard on Sportsound last night. So that's left us with John Hughes. His recent CV hasn't done him any justice but he does tick all the boxes that the club needs. He took Falkirk to a Scottish cup final and took Hibs to Europe. Sometimes when managers get sacked or leave clubs we tend to forget the positives. I'm ready to give John his dues and I welcome him aboard at TCS.
  44. Maybe KC wanted someone who could handle TB if things get tasty on the sidelines in future meetings. I think a lot of bigger name managers would have put noses out of joint, disrupted the unity, tried to stamp their mark on the team, whereas maybe JH was happy to just be back in football...he has lucked out big time.
  45. If as we hear the final three candidates were Hartley, Sheils and Hughes then i would have had them in the following order of preference Hartley, Hughes and then Shiels. Would have preferred Hartley but if it is Hughes coming in then we can expect slick passing football and a very hard working unit. Think his style of play will fit in well with our players. He is a motivator and i think more a tactician than Butcher I for one will be glad to see the back of long ball guff anyway Whoever comes in will have my support
  46. I just hope whoever gets the job are worthy of what they are taking on and they are capable of keeping us in the position we have got used to. We are no longer a little highland team
  47. For a curry in the Rajah.. I have a friend who was recently in Tibet. She got speaking to a local there. They were making small talk and she mentioned that she was from inverness in Scotland. The guy allegedly said he knew it as he had had the BEST curry he ever tasted there, at a small indian resteraunt, behind the Post Office. Small world eh
