Tear gas

Confession time, who's been tear gassed?

The events at the Lille - Man U game reminded me of an incident many years ago when I was a Lille Ultra for a season.

The previous Saturday, there had been a bit of trouble during a game at Parc des Princes from PSG hooligans, so the exit gates from the stands got closed. However a few police were still on the other side, and those poor guys got a **** of a kicking from the Boulogne Boys.

So at all grounds in France the following week, the riot police (CRS) were out in force, intent on causing riots and getting revenge on football fans.

I was at a Lille home game, and straight after kick-off the CRS blocked the way to the toilets. It all started off fairly light hearted, with fans chanting "If you're bursting for a p1ss, clap your hands". As the game went on, people got more desparate to go, and some starting arguing with the police. This gave them the excuse they wanted to launch a baton charge against us, and they followed this up with a couple of tear-gas cannisters. It's not very nice, and does exactly what it says on the tin. After a minute the CRS let us escape the gas, but lined the exit corridor and hit us all with their batons as we exited the stand. B4stards.

Yes, I’ve indirectly suffered the effects of tear gas.  Funnily enough also in France and involving PSG.

Happened a few seasons back outside the Parc des Princes after a PSG – Olympique Marseille match.

As Yngwie will testify PSG-OM games are extremely volatile as they absolutely detest each other.

We were in our regular boozer having a post match pint whilst outside the PSG hooligans were scrapping with the CRS in an attempt to get at the Marseille fans.  We were standing inside the bar watching events unfold when the CRS charged them and unleashed  several rounds of tear gas.  The PSG lot charged into the boozer to escape the CRS and we were treated to a nice waft of tear gas.  Not a very pleasant experience.

Had another sketchy experience after the PSG-Marseille French Cup final last season.  Ended up behind the Marseille escort on my scooter and was forced onto the Autoroute by the CRS as the Marseille Ultras  launched missiles at us.  50cc scooters and autoroutes at night are a bad combination made even worse when stuff is flying past your napper.

Yngwie, were you in with the Dogues Virage Est ?  I was sitting just under them at the Lille – Man United match at the Stade de France last season.    Quite a lively bunch as I recall.

Yeah, that was them. I went there cos it was the only part of the ground that had any kind of atmosphere, or any kind of crowd for that matter. The club has come on leaps and bounds since then, and I think they are getting a new stadium built somewhere. How much longer will they be playing their home games at Villeneuve D'Ascq?

I think this is the third season Lille have been playing at Villeneuve d’Asq. There was a massive rumpus over the location of the new stadium which I think was settled last year.  They’re currently in the bidding process but it could be a good few years before the whole things is completed.  It’s supposedly going to be a 50,000 seater stadium with a roof, rectractable playing surface, etc.

Quite a few French clubs are pursuing new stadiums at the moment (Nice, Le Mans, possibly even Marseille) but as the city generally owns the stadiums it takes an eternity to get the whole scheme through the bureaucratic French stystem.

Never experianced it in a fitba capacity ,but in the forces you had to do gas chamber training, meant just to test your respirator fitted and worked properly, but most disip Corporals were miserable chunts and would make you take them off"just so you know what it's like lads" depending on how much cheek and grief you'd gave them depended on how much of a whiff you got  :009:

As a commited anarchist, it's something that I'll probably have to deal with at some point but so far I haven't seen any serious action. I was going to go down to the G8 protests in Stirling but couldn't really be bothered. French students, the world champions of rioting, have claimed that lemon juice ameliorates the affects - not sure I'd like to try that one though. Fight the power!
