The pre-match interview with JH was all about passing the ball. Aye great but watching the ball ping sideways, backwards, forwards, sideways, backwards sideways, forwards, sideways, all gets a bit predictable and boring when there's absolutely no end product!! Motherwell taught us a lesson in how to play direct football tonight. Their tactic was let Inverness have the ball and we'll just nick it off them go up the park and score - easy! JH's post-match interview was all about having to educate the players and give them confidence .....??? eh ! Sorry John but I think the players need to educate you on how at the start of this season they were a joy to watch and the style of football they played was tearing other teams a new one. You said when you first came to the club that you needed to change nothing..........! What's happened? You've turned us into a shambles ! Not happy !!4 points

I'm fed up of hearing this "be thankful that we are in the top league, top 6, punching above our weight, etc etc" fact is we have a side who are good enough for all that so why shouldn't we expect it from them? Unfortunately we have a manager that has destroyed what could have been a great season and needs to get the boot now! I feel sorry for the players having to play for this guy!2 points

Its not sectarian, bigoted, racist or unlawful in any other way and is only partially inaccurate given that Hearts already went bust rather than 'are going bust'. I really cant see how he might have been seen to "act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour" which is what the charge reads. You could argue to using insulting words at best perhaps ... but is the truth insulting in this context? Personally I think the SFA are overstepping the mark here and crossing the line into civil liberties.2 points

Bringing up Steve Paterson is more of a counter argument as to why a manager soaring through the divisions in a short amount of time doesn't guarantee success. Steve Paterson, as far as the history books outside of Inverness will be concerned, was a flop at Aberdeen after having done so well previously. Loads of teams have leapt through the 4th tier to 2nd. And not all with money. I'd hardly say Hartley deserves all the credit for Dundee being in the running for promotion. The team was already assembled and he's not changed much in an uncompetitive league. His team have scored 8 goals in 9, LESS than Hughes goal per game ratio. They've slipped of the top spot. and play leaders Hamilton away next. I wouldn't put it past Falkirk going past them too In which case Hartley will have done just as badly at Dundee as Hughes at ICT in, arguably, an easier job. Hughes wasn't my 1st choice either. I was a little underwhelmed by the appointment. I think when a team is doing well results wise, coming in, even if you try not to change too much, it's difficult to keep the momentum going. I would have probably have taken Hartley at the time, due to his record. But would know that it would come with risks as he'd no top level management experience and is a bit weird. If it hadn't worked out (or as is now even) I very much guarantee many of the Hughes naysayers would be asking if Hartley should be sacked, that he hadn't enough experience at the top level. I have no doubt that'd be the case. I'm a bit sick of Hughes cliches myself. Good good honest hard working boys blah blah... I was perhaps a little spoiled with TBs anecdotes in the last few years. HOWEVER, I don't think it's been a disaster by any means, yes we've stuttered. Stalled a little. But I'm much of the opinion there was always a fairly high risk of that due to a small limited squad, with a lot of important games in a short space of time which have caught up with them. And because of this I'd like Hughes to be given a little longer to bed methods in before deciding he has to go, even if he wasn't the popular choice.2 points

As a natural-born, handsome and charismatic Invernesian, I for one am shocked at these revelations that many of the people who sit around me on a Saturday are not natively born Invernesians such as myself! I had no idea so many unclean non-Invernesians attended ICT games and I am shocked and saddened that even people from England (insert screeching violin sounds here!) attend matches! How I have survived this long without coming down with some terrible disease, such as rickets or the plague, is quite simply a miracle! Henceforth I shall be rounding up all non-Invernesian ICT going people, Dog the Bounty Hunter-style forwith and hand them into police where I'm sure they will be fairly but sternly dealt with by Chief Constable Dougal!2 points

After our recent run of draws and defeats in games we would easily have won earlier on this season - count me in the 'mibbes' camp. A good manager plays to his teams strengths. A good manager gets the most out of his players. A good manager gets results. We are a big, strong, physical side who tear teams apart with pace, power and pressing. Hughes seems to want the team to play like Arsenal no matter what. It didn't work a few months ago, it's not working now, and it's never going to work.1 point

The Board should cut their losses - pay off his contract in full - and accept they have made a bad mistake. Otherwise, we risk losing everything we've built up, and the fantastic squad we have. Players will leave, and fans will drift away. Like many others on here, I don't buy this 'we're a wee team and we're punching above our weight, and we should be happy with what we've got' baloney. We were really going places a few months ago, and playing football that everyone wanted to watch. I feel really, really sorry for Billy - he's been let down badly.1 point

I think they can't afford to keep him, 2nd to 5th and a possibility of 6th surely equates to a loss of £200,00 plus though obviously no guarantee we would have actually finished 2nd , I think diminishing crowds are a real possibility though obviously a lot of season ticket holders will renew I think the patg customer numbers will drop as I certainly wouldn't pay to watch the stuff on display tonight, we must have got compo from hibs and earned a . Lot of money in cup final. So for me now its time to say bye bye to yogi and take boo boo with you1 point

I don't mind a guy with principles, but he has to recognise that it isn't working and let go of some of those principles in recognition of the evidence. This was a fantastic, solid at the back, goalscoring team before Christmas and now we're predictable, leaky at the back and creating few chances. It isn't entertaining and it isn't a winning formula. Unfortunately, supporters at Falkirk, Hibs, Hartlepool would suggest that Hughes will not alter his philosophy whatever the consequences, so.....I'm not optimistic. What a waste of a cracking season.1 point

Brill Raven Warren Devine Shinnie Draper Polworth Ross Christie Williams Watkins *Mckay needs a rest and is seriously out of form. The chance he missed v st mirren makes that very clear. **Vincent offers absolutely nothing to the team in his current position and i'm skeptical at best of what he offers in behind the striker anyway. ***Christie/Polworth are both capable passers of the ball and can offer something different to draper in a creative sense so must start IMO. ****WE NEED WIDTH not inverted wingers either. Lets get the ball wide and get it into the box.1 point

Got to a Cup final, first derby win in Dingwall for almost forever and yogi and latapy are doing poorly? Let's be fair here yes we've not been consistent in our performances and at times we've been comical to watch. But on our a day we can play. Is it gonna take time to get us to do that consistently? Yes. Will it take time? Yes. So calm yer titties mun! We'll be back to our normal selves in no time.1 point

I don't really buy into the idea that a style of play which got us to second in the league with the players we have was somehow a wrong style to be fixed for football purist reasons. I would rather see Hughes being able to adapt and get the best out of the players we have and score goals and win games.I agree that he will be very limited in how he can change the squad for next season anyway.1 point

It's all gone a bit off track this. I really just wanted to make a genuine observation about the value of having a really passionate supporter who encourages the crowd to get behind the team. As for the xenophobic stuff it belongs in a bygone age. Even Inverness is a multicultural city these days and I couldn't care less about the accent, skin colour or past football allegiances of my fellow fans as long as they encourage the team. Mr Angry and his two accomplices are worth any number of grumbly mumbly old men regardless of their local pedigree in terms of the impact they have on the match.1 point

IMO even if we do better between now and the end of the season, the downturn since Hughes arrived should not be swept under the carpet, unless you believe saying 'at least we were not THAT bad' is considered good enough? Besides, all comparisons with last season are only fair if you think we did as well as we could've possibly done and that Terry Butcher was still the right man for the job post Barnsley cock-up. Do you think last years run-in is the level we should be aiming for or do you think we are capable of more? I think we have surpassed last seasons success. We are still top six and we reached a cup final. That has to be seen as a better season than last considering there are only three or four teams in this league that could be construed as being on a level with us. The others are way superior in their financial ability to attract a better squad of players.1 point

Agree with above. We have played two games a week since our Scottish Cup QF and tiredness has to be a factor. There's also not enough time between games for proper coaching. Everything is more about game preparation. Have those guys even had a day of in that time?1 point

I agree Dougal that Christie and Polworth should start because I felt last Saturday they had a good game and in all honesty don't merit being dropped - regardless of being local lads. I don't agree however with dropping Dean Brill though. Ryan Esson hasn't played a game of football since the 4th of Feburary in an Under 20s match. From what I have gathered, Ryan isn't really that bothered about playing anymore and focusing on his coaching. Looking back at last Saturday after we were down to 10 men, Dean Brill made an absolute belter of a save to keep the match a draw so in all honesty, maybe a draw last Saturday was the fair result. Dropping Dean Brill wouldn't help his confidence whatsoever but for what it's worth I do share the same concern about his kicking and the current tactics aren't helping matters either.1 point

I fail to see how you come to that conclusion Rig If anything I'm having a dig at the hundreds/thousands of Invernessians that have rejected ICT not the hundreds of incomers who have swelled our paltry support since the off We average about 2500 hard core support and half are incomers so they should be applauded because without them we would not have an SPL team Take it Bannerman taught you in School as you don't appear to be the sharpest Dougal1 point

Why are people getting so het up about next season. Who knows how we will do next season and yes under Yogi so far it has been far from perfect but that doesnt mean we will be fighting relegation next season. It seems that we have all become a little bit over the top when it comes to the exception of where the club should be, it is good to have higher expectations but we get small crowds, have one of the if not the lowest budget in the top flight and one of the smallest squads. this falling off near the end isnt new as it happened last season and this season it looks worse because we are further down although we have to factor in a resurgent Aberdeen and Dundee Utd to the equation. Yogi is making mistakes and people are perfectly in there own right to complain but we still have to give him time to see what he can do. The squad is signed up for next season but need a few more faces to help. Billy is our only trusted striker at this level so we need competition. Yes on the form he has shown it would be hard for other to get in to the team but he may be burnt out now or we need to find a way to support him better but maybe he lacks a little bit of competition as well and maybe with the tiredness he has lost that edge. I like how Yogi is trying to make us adaptable to different formations but i agree with everyone that Vincent just isnt a wide man and we need to bring him back into the middle. There is a parallel to Man Utd in the fact that Mata and Kagawa get played out wide and they want to come in and play in the number 10 role well Vincent is the same. At the cup final when Vincent was on the ball he looked more dangerous in the middle but then we look unbalanced then by losing the width on that side so for me it isnt a hard decision. It is a flat ending after promising so much but i think it was always going to be a tough ask playing all those games in such a short time scale when other teams have had a week to prepare. Hopefully we will win a few more games as we have seen some really good games like Aberdeen, County and Dundee Utd away but the consistency is not there but all in all this season has been another build on last season.1 point

For me, the team is basically running on empty in many positions just now. Mackay for one looks dead on his feet and maybe Meekings/Vincent as well. Again, it has to be remembered that several of these players are probably playing their first full season at this level and may now just be starting to struggle so giving them a rest and playing other players may ne necessity IHE, not giving up on the season. I thought the changes yesterday gave us more energy and pace in the team and we looked well worth the 2-1 lead. However, when Tansey went off, we definitely started to sit back, again is that due to tiredness, either mentally or physically, I don't know. Sending off did alter things although I thought Watkins did okay playing at centre forward and worth a try to give Billy a rest. For those moaning about having 2 wingers and not playing them, Watkins and Williams, lets be honest, neither of them have really set the heather on fire recently when given the chance so I think the suggestion that playing both of them would be beneficial us not proven by the evidence. I know I will be shot down in flames now but some posters but I think some of the postings just now are amongst the most negative I have seen on this site, and this is causing division amongst posters on the site. It seems to be that those posters who did not want Hughes are seeking any and every opportunity to be negative, that is their right, but this is not helping. Had anyone suggested the current scenario for ICT at the start of the season, Top 6 and reaching a cup final, we would all have grabbed that with both hands. Yes it has gone a bit pear shaped but let's not kid ourselves, we have been punching above our weight and it is now coming home to roost.1 point

Renegade - 'someone who certainly knows their stuff'??? care to have the balls to tell us who this football genius is? I doubt it! If you are someone who prefers his players to launch the ball up the park and get after it then I would suggest you are a typical example of the reason why football in this country is 'light years' behind our European counterparts.1 point

Can you explain how playing it slow and narrow through a congested midfield is more open and attractive than breaking with speed down the wings?1 point

I suspect Yogi will go for Tansey in central defence, so he can pass the ball around, as that's what is really needed in a centre half. We need to attack down the wings, so Draper and Warren are the most natural there. I doubt we will have anyone in central midfield this time as we spend so much time tip-tapping around the defence that the result is either a backpass or a big punt up, so no need for anyone in front of the new Puyol and Beckenbauer. McKay up front.1 point
-
Ditch the 4-2-3-1 formation again, even though it works and the players are most comfortable with it, in favour of a 4-4-1-1 system? CHECK. Two central midfielders playing out of position on the wing, with no wide players picked whatsoever? CHECK. Telling the players at half time to sit in and invite pressure, even though we were massively on top in the latter stages of the first half? CHECK. Not changing things around in the slightest even when St. Mirren changed their system? CHECK. Bringing off our centre-forward and replacing him with a winger, who looked like he had never played centre forward in his life? CHECK. Firing off a load of pathetic clichés in the post-match interview? (Probably - I haven't heard it yet, but it seems like a safe assumption). The thing is that I thought the players did the best they could today, even though they were held back by dreadful tactics. Vincent must be regretting signing that contract, when Hibs would have paid him more and played him in a position he's comfortable with. It's no secret that St. Mirren's right-back, Naismith, likes to bomb on at pace, but Yogi clearly hadn't scouted St. Mirren at all and so Vincent got left for dead again and again by an overlapping full-back who was so much faster than him. Our midfielders did their best to get on the ball in the first half, even though all four of them kept trying to occupy exactly the same areas of the pitch. Add in a useless referee - and they don't come more useless than Willie Collum - and you have a side who were a bit lucky not to lose to a St. Mirren team who were possibly the weakest I've seen us play against all season. They were dreadful, even when we were down to 10 men. Not happy. Not happy at all. We have a decent squad of players, you know. Their attitude is superb, and they can play a bit too. But they're being held back by a manager who doesn't know what he is doing.1 point
