I dont think the "glory days" are gone ..... they were apparently gone when Pele left, then Robbo, then Brew (V1.0) etc ......but ICT is bigger than any one man(ager) and we always seem to find ways to confound even the harshest of critics. Thats a big part of the fun of supporting ICT ! I agree that TB seemed a perfect fit for the club. A place where he could rule the roost and do what he wanted with basically a job for life - within a tight budget of course - but despite his declarations of love for the area and for the club he showed his real thoughts on the day when - still employed by ICT - he chose to socialise with his new employers when he should have been plotting their downfall. At least the players were professional that day ! That was the GTF moment for me and one that smacks of a complete and utter disloyalty to the club, the players he had signed over the last few years, and to the hard working supporters of our club who had backed him all the way through relegation and the 'bouncebackability' season. I thank him for what he did do for our club, I appreciate it and remember it fondly, but I really hope he falls flat on his face in each and every managerial or media job he takes from now on in ... not because he left, but because of how he left. W***** !!!

He should have stayed put then? Actually I think butcher owes a debt to ICT it wasn't always rosey and we stuck by him. I will always be grateful for the good times but the manner of his departure was a disgrace!
  5. Hooda taut it - wee ICT finishing so far up the very best league in the country ! I'm proud to claim my home town team as my favourite side ! And look forward to even better results next season, please ?
  6. Sadly this season is out first season where the average attendance in the SPL / Premier League fell below 4,000. I think my numbers for two seasons may be slightly out from the ones that Hibee Jibee has on P & B but there isn't too much difference: EDIT: Couple of errors with the positions which I've amended.
  7. Sorry but do you not remember his last game as our manager? I don't know what you think I mean but if they do stay up and he turns them round, like he did us, he could be back to haunt us. Anybody that was there that day at ER when he was so disrepected to our club, fans and chaiman I think is enjoying his troubles. As Ive said elsewhere I will always be grateful for the good days we had but seriously hope Hibs go down. The Caley Curse lives.
  8. Remember we played County three times last seasons, only once at home on New Years Day when many fans of both sides couldn't get there. We also only played Celtic once at home this season as well, which must affect the figures.

Lettuce get this right...Subway?! But gherkin aside, this is no time for platter-tudes until it's known how much money we're going to baguette.
  10. I shoudn't, but I'm going to bite. Dad, your first assertion (because they are assertions, not conclusions) is right but the rest are to varying degrees incorrect.Your second point is simply wrong. Since the split (which I'll take your "recent weeks" as) we have drawn two lost two won one. That is not "very unsuccessful" by any definition, especially when the defeats are to the top two in the League. Average in the top half of the League at worst. Boring to watch? Only if you prefer another style. Not everyone does. Yesterday was 67% to 33% possession to ICT, possession recycled and this contributed to St. Johnstone having to chase the game, even at 0-0. There was only one winner, the passing was excellent and possession good. Your third point is again, simply wrong. Hughes is the manager, and he will take credit for the way his team plays, no matter what style you percieve it to be. That's the way it works. The second half didn't happen because of someone saying "forget everything I've told you" it happened through keeping possession of the ball, creating and taking chances. Which is precisely what the manager says he tells the players. On your fourth point, Hughes has talked long and loud about what he wants this team to do, which is at least equal the achievements of this season by playing a passing game based on possession and control. I see no mystery in that, and therefore have a good idea of what style of football we will see next year. Me? I look forward to it.
  11. Well the stewards have taken over 24 hours to make a decision...and it is a dead heat. Apparently there is no difference between 5, 5, 5 & 5...who'd have thought that! So congratulations to all 4 of you, you are all winners! Sadly there is only one book...and by a selection process known by the technical term of 'my daughter picks a name out of a hat', the winner of the book is... Roarer

Six figures is a great deal more than the Orion deal netted us on an annual basis. Good work.
  13. Have to say that I thought DD summed up yesterday really well. In the first half our play was directionless. Again, and again, and again, it was sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards, and repeat until the ball was given away in our own half. Our tempo was too slow to particularly wear St Johnstone out, or to carve them open. There was precious little width and our attacks tended to stall just in front of the penalty area as all our forwards moved into that central area. The second half was completely the opposite. We were far more direct and decisive with the ball. We were more willing to throw players forward, particularly the full-backs, which gave us width. Possibly because they had the cup final in mind, St Johnstone couldn't, or wouldn't cope with the increased pace of our play. We carved out numerous chances and it was terrific to watch. It proves we can keep the ball on the deck but still play attractive attacking football. The trouble is that the first half reminded me of many of our games in 2014, while the second half reminded me of many of our games in 2013. It seems far more likely that Yogi made the necessary changes at half-time, rather than the players spontaneously reverting to type. But, pessimist that I am, the thought had crossed my mind... I strongly believe that we are a better team - and, with these players, will always be a better team - playing the way we did in the second half yesterday. That's simply because, in my opinion, you can't play like Barcelona unless you have Xavi at the base of your midfield, rather than Tansey. If Yogi proves me wrong, then brilliant. But, with 'Butcher-esque' tactics, we will be top six next season. With Yogi tactics, I'm not nearly as confident. At least, following that win, we have now scored more points with Yogi (29 from 25 games) than without him in the dugout (28 from 13 games).

With no sense of irony, it's declared a "rolling contract"!!

TB always remarked how much he loved life in the Highlands ,Caley Thistle were going well , why on earth would he leave ? ...the common opinion ,that he left purely out of greed ,seems a valid one. Butcher and Malpas have been a complete shambles for Hibs , though I've no sympathy for their plight . The smugness of Hibs supporters at seeing the sad situation at Hearts , has now come back to bite them , not in their worst nightmare did they consider they might be joining their bigger , better supported rivals in the Championship next season ...and it serves them right , I hope they go down . No one in Inverness can be too smug either , argue all day ,but the glory days are probably gone , hopefully SPL status will be retained for many years to come , but thats all .............Inverness Caley Thistle / Terry Butcher /MM was a perfect marriage , and TB managed to fcuk it all up .. silly , silly Man
  19. So, fifth and a cup final - an excellent season, all things considered! .....I just wish I could shake this nagging feeling of an opportunity missed!!!! I'm going to go away and have a scratch at some of the stats, but a few interesting ones will be in there: 100% ability to not lose games that we scored first in; 100% failure to win games we conceded first in; number of clean sheets; number of 4-0 or more humpings; 100% failure to score from free kicks round the box; poor penalty conversion rate etc etc.

In terms of league position our last 2 seasons have been our best 2 seasons ever and we have Terry Butcher to thank for that. On a very limited budget he and his management team did an excellent job in finding latent talent and fashioning them into a team that could compete well in the top half of the SP(F)L. The sad thing both for the club and himself personally is that both seasons could have been better still. Both seasons saw us riding high in the league before Butcher decided he would capitalise on the success and head off to bigger clubs. Last year the aftermath of the Barnsley fiasco resulted in a significant drop in form when the players realised that despite all his praise about the loyalty of the players, the manager had no loyalty at all and was keen to leave. This year Butcher renaged on his commitment to the club and left and his successor has been unable to maintain the early season form. I am convinced that without the Barnsley fiasco we would have captured a European place last year and despite both Aberdeen and Dundee Utd being stronger this year, with the start we had, we could have finished higher and perhaps gone one better in the cups. As SP points out, had Butcher had faith in the team he had fashioned and gone on to win a European placing or a cup with ICT then his own stock would have risen immensley and he could have attracted a bigger salary elsewhere. But we've won nothing and he's won nothing. We are a small club and may never have such a good chance of success at the top level of Scottish football again. The Rangers, Hibs and Hearts will all return stronger in the next few years and it will be harder than ever to make that breakthrough. There is a feeling the Butcher took the team to the brink of that success but then snatched it away from us in order to satisfy his short term financial greed. The success of the last 2 seasons is a bittersweet success because we know that it could and should have been better. In denying us success, he has also denied himself success. The irony is that whilst the club has still enjoyed relative success, his opportunity for success may well morph into abject failure and leave his career in ruins. If so, he only has himself to blame and will get no sympathy from me.

I'll be renewing my shortly. Regardless of my opinions of Hughes I can't imagine being anywhere else on a Saturday afternoon. Or Saturday lunchtime. Or Saturday evening. Or Sunday lunchtime. Or Friday night. Or Tuesday night. Or Wednesday night.
  24. Oh b'Jesus...he/she is in flippin' Oz...
  25. They're all terrific players. Not sure how they'ds fit in though. I'd actually see about McDonald. Yes, Brill has been a decent keeper but Jamie would be a step up. Wouldn't say no to one of the other two but, as I say, where do they fit? Actually, thinking about it, we have to sign Hamill. Just imagine li'l Derek Adams face. Ooh, glorious!
  26. Where did our 57 points come from? Home 30 Away 27 St Johnstone 9 Hibernian 7 Hearts 7 Kilmarnock 6 Ross County 6 St Mirren 5 Dundee United 5 Partick Thistle 4 Aberdeen 4 Motherwell 3 Celtic 1

Some people object to them converting 185 branches to have a halal menu (ie no ham or bacon, and only serving meat from animals killed by having their throats cut by a muslim).

I would hope we will at least get a Subway van at the ground for half time next season
  29. One other memory for me was v. Dundee United with Deano about to pick the ball up from his feet with David Goodwillie charging in. Deano stood up straight to hitch up his shorts then bent again to pick up the ball. Shades of Jimmy Calder - pure class.

Just been looking up the same thing! Trying to get my teeth into using up all available puns. But I did eventually find (sandwiched between other articles), that Liverpool seem to have an arrangement with them, but not as main shirt sponsor. Don't want to butter up the board, but this mayo be a good deal - olive in hope.

TB can't really be blamed for taking the hibs job but as many have said it's the pathetic, disgraceful way he treated the club (including fans, players and board) that's made us all enjoy his pathetic failure at hibs. I like hibs, always have done. I don't like TB, I'm enjoying gloating about his failings. And will chuckle and chortle when he's eventually punted.
  33. got to be nick Ross v hearts in semi final just doesn't get much better than that and so glad i never left early either great times

Great to have such a well known name. Can only raise our profile higher.
  35. The semi-final win was rather special and the final was a good occasion but I rather enjoyed the 3-0 drubbing of County at Dingwall. Following the initial abandonment of the game there was a very lengthy delay before the game was replayed and coming into it our form was not great and County were improving. On the day, we outplayed them in every department and with Motherwell losing heavily in Perth it looked as though we were back on track for a top 3 finish. We still had the league cup final to come and a Scottish Cup quarter final against Dundee Utd. There was a lot to feel good about after that performance - shame it didn't last.

20 years, and yet is seems like only yesterday.....
  37. Without wanting to state the obvious, reaching our first final. Also, the emergence of young Christie....although I've only just realised that he's not as 'young' as I thought he was. I was under the impression he was about 17 and understandably needed to be handled with 'kid gloves' and slowly introduced to the first team...but he's actually the same age as Polworth (19), with the latter seeming to have been around the first-team scene for a good few years now. So, I'm of the opinion that Ryan's certainly ready for regular first team starts next season and shouldn't necessarily be viewed only as 'one for the future' but rather, one-for-the-here-and-now!
  38. Semi final. Every moment of it. Plus Dorans goal in Dingwall.

I have just renewed (moved seats slightly) in probably the best value seats in SPFL £200 1 Adult + 2 under 16's section A (uncovered section) it rained once in all games at home this season (midweek and if we moved to empty seat don't think I would of got a row) on a slight tangent, because I had these seats when we made it to our first major final I was able to buy tickets for as many as wanted and thanks to CJT I was able to get a bus running from slightly out of Inverness.
  40. I don't know what to make of that. Obviously it was great to end the season with a win, end in 5th rather than sixth and to beat last year's points tally. Great also to sign off the season with an excellent last minute goal from Greg Tansey. But what do we learn from the match to take into next season? It was very much a game of two halves - again! First half was dull with very little action. Lots of sideways and backwards passing culminating in a pass back to Brill from Shinnie of all people from inside the opposition half! Second half was much, much better. It looked as though the half time team talk went something like "OK boys, forget everything I've taught you and just go out and play your natural game and give it a right good go!" We were much more threatening when we were more direct and attacking with pace and width. But then after the match Hughes in his interview was saying that we'd not been passing it quickly enough and we needed to up the pace of the game. He said the players were taking on board what he was trying to do and it showed in the second half. It does seem to me that the way we played in the first half was how we've tended to play since Hughes came in (ball to feet) and the way we played in the second half was how we were playing in the first half of the season when when we were 2nd (ball into the spaces). If how we played in the 2nd half was the way Hughes wants the team to play then that's fine by me but it certainly contrasted sharply with the style of play we have only witnessed since Hughes came here. The conclusions I reach are:- We have a very talented squad of players who are capable of playing very exciting attacking football. We have a manager who in recent weeks has had the team playing in a style which is boring to watch and which has been very unsuccessful. We have a manager who today takes credit for a 2nd half performance which was much more in the style of the team before he took up post. I have no idea what Hughes really wants from the team and consequently no idea of the style of football we are likely to witness next year.
  41. Decent end to a somewhat frustrating run in. 2 well taken goals and a clean sheet, cant say fairer than that. Think it was fairly clear that St J's had 1 eye on the cup final, which I suppose is understandable but was really impressed by some of our play, especially in the 2nd half. Glad the season is done, felt like it was starting to drag on a bit, we all deserve a break . Hope the players come back rejuvenated and get off to another flyer next season. Been a season of real highs and real lows but as always its a pleasure following this club with such good fans...see you all in 14/15
  42. Was it not the same stand that was cobbled together in record time to ensure we got our SPL campaign started on time. Brilliant feat actually from all accounts ....so....? Where are you going with this young Doofer? When I stood on the terracing at the former Caledonian F C there was no side stands and the main stand was small. Sometimes you stood beside or behind trees if there was a large crowd. And sitting down was generally not an option. These were the good old days and not the modern mollycoddling days of this era.
  43. Great to end season with a great goal flying into the top corner at the North Stand Home End in the 90th minute !

To my recollection, the club have never released season ticket sales numbers...and it's the same with many other clubs. Not sure how/why it would/should influence a persons decision on whether to buy one or not either. We had a situation with the League Cup Final where I was getting phone calls and emails several times a day from press/media asking if the club were going to release a figure...and the only reason we could fathom for the interest was because they wanted to use it as a stick with which to hit the club by drawing comparisons on supporter numbers between ourself and Aberdeen. We have this obsession in Scotland with crowd sizes and supporter numbers...and using them as a tool to deride the opposition...that I don't see anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people should have no interest in the subject but the important thing is what the club is doing to try and promote season ticket sales and releasing numbers, IMO, isn't a required part of that equation. Whether numbers are up or down doesn't matter, we should all be focusing on what we can do (individually & together) to make them even better. The discussion on whether the club are doing the enough or doing the right things comes up regularly, especially around this time of year and generally ends up caught in an infinite loop of people shouting that prices need to be reduced and a counter argument that reducing prices doesn't increase numbers sufficiently to counter the lost revenue from such a reduction. Personally, I think it's pretty remarkable that despite ever increasing costs and reduced league/cup income the club have managed to freeze prices and maintain the free kids tickets. The club may be wrong and there might be a case for releasing numbers which goes beyond satisfying curiosity and giving lazy journalists info which would be used to construct what amounts to little more than unhelpful non-stories. Would be interested in hearing that case if it exists. FWiW...I'm not privy to the numbers either and tend to try and avoid having such info (or any info I don't need to allow me to do what I do for the club). That way, the finger of blame can never be pointed in my direction if there's a leak...lol.

I'm renewing mine because its my team good or bad much like Fraz. Can't understand a boycott for "football philosophy" reasons? But then I've lost some season ticket companions along the way because of TB style of football (i.e. some people on here need to remember the bad old years not the glory months). Some interesting comment from Caley D on the SPL/Sevco season ticket boycott. I know I withheld my season ticket money as my only way of influencing voting decisions on an SPL stitch up but once club intentions were declared I responded in good faith and parted with my season cash but I was so scunnered at the time by the corporate scullduggery, it was not an empty threat. I definitely boycotted a renewal and felt very strongly about the issue at the time and the wee bit of noise I was trying to make was real. Was i the only one sticking to my guns and protesting by not paying up . Anyway no reason not to renew this year unless Hamilton get voted out for having a plastic pitch!

Another revolution of Terry's that has ended in tears. His short sighted greed has disrupted not one but two teams seasons and if they go down...which is a distinct possibility given that they will be coming against a team beaming with confidence.
