  1. Thanks Gringo for another well organised competition. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we appreciate the time and effort you spend on it, for our enjoyment.

  2. In light of revealing our new sponsor, a couple of kits I wouldn't mind seeing being made our own. Stupidly simple and in distant hope that Subway were to use their logo minus the slogan, I'de be more than happy with either home kit. Based on current season templates though and assuming we're remaining with Errea.

  3. That top kit is fantastic. If that's what comes out I will be picking one up for sure.

  5. With the players we have (as long as the vast majority stay), we should be a top six side next season as well. St Johnstone, Motherwell etc. aren't exactly loaded either and they seem to manage it. Saying "we should really just be happy to stay up" etc., is unambitious and selling ourselves short. It was good to hear the chairman's comments after the game on Sunday which were that should be looking to push on, aim high and better ourselves yet again. That's the attitude we should be taking. We should be looking to go up another level again and this "we should just be happy we're in the Premiership" attitude can be consigned to the dustbin.

  6. More importantly, will we be getting a Subway concession stall at the ground? I'd far rather a Meatball Marinara than a lukewarm pie.

  8. An older keeper with playing time still left in him? That'll be Ryan Esson then!
    2 points
  9. We don't need another goalkeeper IMO. Well Esson should now focus more on coaching and he's still not the same goalie he use to be so we should be looking for an older one but still got playing time left in him. Esson done alright in the game vs Motherwell and he can still focus on coaching while being the No.2 goalkeeper. Nash would be an expensive pointless signing.

  10. Over the years the club have tried various forms of ticket discounts for games at all times. It actually frustrates the hell out of me when the club do straight forward ticket discounting because, quite simply, it does NOT work....never has worked, not likely to change any time soon and, IMO, actually just ends up costing us money. IMO, you could half the prices for every game and you'd struggle to put an extra 500 average on the gate. What the club are doing...more than anyone else I can see...is making it more affordable for youngsters/families to come to games (free if you're under 12). However they are fighting a bit of a losing battle on that one as well because it's a struggle getting adults/parents to take kids along to games. They'd rather spend £40 on a computer game and stick them in front of the TV than spend the day taking them out to a game and spending time with them (a deeper society problem than just going to the football). It's also become harder for schools and kids/youth organisations to take them along to games because they rely heavily on volunteers or staff. They can't get the volunteers because there's too much red tape involved and they can't afford to be paying the staff....even when they are being offered free match tickets. Caley Thistle is probably doing as much as it can to keep the game as affordable as it can. Yeah, there's maybe a bit more they could be doing to improve the matchday experience as a whole (out with the 90 minutes of play) and hopefully that will (continue to) improve. Football alone cannot fix what is a problem with society. However, as a sport and certainly Caley Thistle as a club, do more to try and offset and improve things than any other (comparatively speaking). e.g. I doubt there's another club in the UK that will be delivering programmes/classes in over 180 schools in the next 12 months....like we will be. What's needed is for the community to do a bit more to support those efforts. Not just financially by buying a season/match ticket or merchandise or whatever....but with some real investment of time and effort in championing the positive community benefits that are and can be achieved through Caley Thistle as a club and football as a sport. It could be something as simple as taking the time to post something positive on here (or elsewhere) instead of constantly focusing on the negative. Take your child along to a game, or if you already do then encourage them to bring a friend. Next time you're at your kids school/club ask them why they don't take advantage of the free tickets on offer and encourage them to do so. If you're involved with a group or organisation (adult or child) then suggest a day out at the football....contact the club if you do as maybe there's some deal that can be done. I'm not having a go. I'm just suggesting that we all stop for a moment to think about whether we can offer our assistance in regards some solutions instead of just sitting making lists of things we don't like and/or want changed. I've said it before on here....ANYONE who thinks they or the club would benefit from a chat only need call or email and they'd be welcomed in to do so with whoever it's best for them to speak with.

  11. I'm actually quite optimistic about next season. A few rough edges to sort out but I really don't think we're all that far away from the finished product and the close season should provide plenty of time for him to hone his tools. Perhaps this is Yogi's best chance yet to achieve something big in Scottish football.

  13. Interesting statistics. I don't think this has much to do with cost: when the club tried to attract crowds with cost incentives for midweek games late in the season, it had little apparent effect. As others have noted above, I think we have not been well served by the SPFL "computer" and by postponements this year. First, only one home game against County at New Year - the away support was pitiful for that. Second only one home (3 away) game against Celtic (on a Sunday with TV coverage IIRC). Third, no Sevco. Then came the postponements which meant a series of games in March/April midweek and competing with Champions League QF/SF. That, added to the drop in form was catastrophic for our average crowds: I think less than 3k were at Hibs, DUFC and Motherwell midweek games, for example. We are particularly badly hit by midweek games because the away support is understandably decimated. Sadly. all of this means we were the worst supported club in the Premiership behind St J and County. I think next year will be better because we should have 2 games at home against both County and Celtic: ~5k at all of those will have a significant impact. I wish the SPFL would recognise the competition from televised Champions League + travel issues for midweek games and do everything in their power to avoid them.

  20. Fifth it is Inverness ran out comfortable winners eventually after a first half to forget. There was little evidence that anything would change as the teams trudged off at the interval in what was a complete non-event. However things picked up after the break and Ryan Christie was alert enough to head home a rebound from Aaron Doran's shot. Greg Tansey ensured we remained fifth with a thunderous shot. Lashing the ball home from just inside the box after creating the space for himself. Pick that one out ya dancer!. This was a great way to end a season that promised so much but fizzled out somewhat, but overall it has been a good season all round, unless your name is Terry Butcher. Early morning rain gave way to a bright sunny afternoon and the game was preceded by the now traditional march past by our nutters known as the Highland Marchers. Great effort from these guys once more. For Inverness it was another makeshift back line with Josh Meekings and Gary Warren missing out and regular deputy Danny Devine pairing up with Ross Draper at the heart of the defence. James Vincent started along with rising star Ryan Christie, and Marley Watkins, Danny Williams and Nick Ross all began on the bench. St Johnstone's own hot shot Stevie May was not risked from the start with Nigel Hasselbaink on from the beginning. Our own nomadic superfan Johndo made the sojourn from Chorley to see off the season and partake in some light refreshments around the local hostelries and he will be penning his thoughts for us once he relaxes on the train back to Englandshire............................. The Chorley Brief It was the last game of the year and the powers that be decide to play a nothing at stake game at 12:15 on a Sunday morning; or perhaps it may be a Subway morning in the near future?!! The last game of the season, to moi, gives far more positives than many have given credit to. The first half was drab but the passing, to me, was nowhere near the negativity that has been posted on here recently. Both teams were negative and it was as if we were both looking for a 1-0. The first half was totally bereft of any real skill and was as dull a 45 as I have ever witnessed. But we stuck to a very defensive system and we changed it after half time. GAWD if we had nicked a goal we may have gone ballistic! Brill was forced to save with his legs because it was hit straight at him and we never looked like scoring, the nearest we came in the first half was when Christie fed McKay who screwed a shot just over the bar. But the second half was SO much better and, like at Motherwell we could have rained goals IMHO. After the break we relaxed and if we had scored a second early doors we may have hammered Perth. McKay, Watkins, Raven and Tansey could easily have added to the tally. Doran had one cleared off the six yard line with Mannus stranded, but Christie got a poachers goal and anyone of four could have snatched the second but Tansey did dispatch it with force. So here we go with the critique :- Brill:- 6 Not tested but never troubled. Still not convinced. Raven:- 6 More subdued offensively which was a slight concern Tremarco:- 6 Better game than usual - still not good enuff going forward but solid defensively. Devine:- 6 Could really be one fer the future and I would love to see at left back Draper:- 7 Did he look the part there or what ? Draper and Warren ? Vincent:- 4 Totally wasted on the wide right. Shinnie:- 8 MotM for me and maybe we stick with him in there. Tansey:- 7 Tackles like Paul Scholes, shoots like Bobby Charlton Doran:- 6 Jhesus if he was fit ???!! Christie:- 7 Green but such a potential talent McKay:- 6 Poor Billy was crocked but will prosper with the Portuguese hitman Watkins and Wiliiams 6: Both upped the pace and added something. Ross 5: On too late but did nothing wrong ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Final words from tm4tj........... Well that's the season over folks and it's been a pretty decent one overall. Top highlights for many include the League Cup Semi-Final win over Hearts, a fantastic exhilarating experience coming back and beating them with nine men, Nick Ross' goal kicking of joyous scenes. The Final itself was a superb occasion with a less favourable scoreline. Others thought that stuffing the village pub team from Dingwall 3-0 was high up on the list and who can forget the comedy moment when Derek Adams thought he could halt Jamie Hamill's celebration jaunt along the touchline; wrong Derek. A late entry in this categories is the trouble and strife happening at Hibernian to someone who was once adored at Inverness by most Inverness fans. Yes, Terry Butcher blotted his copybook and turned his back on us at Easter Road by hobnobbing with his Hibernian chums whilst still in employment at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Well well Judas, not going so well now, hope you are enjoying your Marks and Spencer cakes while Yogi dunks his Tesco ones in his tea. Made me laugh anyway............................... That's about it from the editorial team for this season, we'll be back for the start of the new season, enjoy the break. 21. Whats your expectations for next season? Reason i ask......this season.....ICT finnished 5th in the leage and narrowly missed out on winning a national trophy.....so i would say that makes it ICT's best season ever. BUT......does that stop people whinging? no, it doesnt. A lot of people forgetting that we are in fact a small fish in a small pond these days.....just becasue we had two seasons where we punched well above our weight. For me....a good season is managing to stay in the SPL. A very good season would be finnishing just outside the top 6. an Excellent season would be making the top 6 and throwing in a cup final too is just a massive bonus. So as far as next season goes, a finish anywhere from 7th - 10th would be a good season and i would be happy with that. Anything better than that is a hugely sucsessful season

  26. I think cost may be an issue for some but I'm not convinced it's as big as that. I think prices compare with a trip to the cinema etc when everything is added in. The football is our leisure activity in our family so we tend to do the cinema, bowling etc rarely. I think the family section is a great deal for those with young children and there are finance packages available to spread the cost. It is a big jump in cost when they reach 12 or 16 I know but at least there are still concessions available. The club do on the day deals on a regular basis but I do know the take up is generally poor! I really feel these numbers are down to away crowds and fixture manipulation. I will concede there probably is a drop in home fans attending as well. IMO attending football is a habit. It's easy to get out of the habit and go and do other things at the weekend unfortunately for the club. I do worry about the sustainability for the future however. I could pay for 2 adults AND 2 kids, to go Ice Skating, on a saturday afternoon, for 2.5 hours, for about £3-4 CHEAPER thn it would cost just ONE adult to get the cheapest seat at TCS!!! I could take that same family of 4 to the Cinema, in the afternoon, for a pound or two more than what it would cost just me to get the cheapest seat in the house at TCS! Football is a RIP OFF....plain and simple. I find my season tickets much better value than cinema etc. as I said its a matter of choosing where youspend your money. I've never got a family ticket cheaper than £22 at the cinema....tho £23.20 for a family of 4 on a saurday afternoon to get into the cinema. i think the cheapest ticket for ONE adult at TCS is £21 For 2 adults and 2 under 12s you'd be about £24 a game for the four of you in the family section with season tickets. So much the same really. Not everyone has kids under 12, who would ONLY qualify for that price you quoted if the family were rich enuff to be able to fork out for two adult season tickets!!! So a fairer comparrison would be 2 x adult tickets for footie, in amily section = £32, plus two junior tickets=£14......so all in all.....£46 Without you stating how old these theoretical kids are it's not really possible to make an absolute like for like comparison. However according to Vue a family of 4 ticket price is for a minimum of 2 children and a child according to their website is a 2-12 year old, so my original comparison seems totally fair. ETA- Forgot to mention a family ticket on a Saturday afternoon is £27.20 at the cinema, as it's a peak time, not £23.20. http://www.myvue.com/cinemas/ticket-prices/cinema/inverness I'm obviously looking at season tickets are they are the most financially prudent way to go to games. If you are 'rich' and bought 2 adult and 2 Jnr STs in the family section and paid them up over 10 months it's about £69 a month or about £35 a game, much cheaper than buying at the gate. If every penny's a prisoner then an uncovered family ST (1 adult & 2 jnrs) is £200 no idea how much for an extra adult, as it doesn't state that but lets say it's £100. So £300 all in for 2 kids/jnrs & 2 adults that's under £16 a game for everyone. Granted uncovered isn't ideal but if cost is the primary issue and driver and you have older kids then it's an option. Im talking about a family of 4....2 adults and two kids....walking in off the street to watch an ICT game. Even if the Cinema charges £27.20 for sat afternoon movies (i have never paid that price) its still £19 cheaper than the equivalent package for 4 at an ICT game And then, as i mentioned, a family of 4 can go skating for 2.5 hrs on a sat afternoon for near £30 cheaper than they can go to an ICT game. I can only really put forward my case for why i think footie is way overpriced compared to other activities i could be doing on a sat afternoon. I know that from my own personal circumstance.....price is THE most important factor. That was true before....when it was just myself. I now have my youngest who likes coming along to the odd game here and there with me My point being that if you want to go to the football regularly with kids it can actually be done very affordably. I'll be taking my daughter next season and my ST is actually cheaper than last year when I was on my tod. I'd imagine that most families that go to games do so regularly if they can, rather than seeing it as a once a year 'Landmark' type activity. Going to the football is habitual for most people who do go. Naturally PATG will be far more expensive as it is at every club home and away. Clubs want the money at the start of the season so that they can set out their budgets and they know that once you buy your STs that you're more likely to turn up as often as you can. As someone who goes to a number of away games, tho not as many as I'd like and payed at the gate (and taken my 3 year old on occasion) I know how expensive that can be, except for Stranraer lol.

So a fairer comparrison would be 2 x adult tickets for footie, in amily section = £32, plus two junior tickets=£14......so all in all.....£46 Smee, you are correct in saying that an afternoon at TCS is, on the face of it the most expensive of the three figures that you have illustrated and that's bound to be the case. However, comparing these three activities is like comparing apples and oranges - they are both fruit but they ain't the same. Others have illustrated that better than me. Football has a much higher cost base than any of the other activities you mention and therefore will need to charge more simply to pay players, keep up a stadium, provide coaching and do community work etc. etc. If you look back twenty years at comparative costs it was always thus. Football in Scotland isn't a rip off, it's a product fighting in a crowded market place for a share of that market. It's not all about cost however, it's about making a decision that you want to go along and support your team and you are prepared to make the investment needed. It's about knowing that you have helped in whatever small way to put that team on the park and ensured that they have a park to play on. I realise that some will be unable to make that investment but the pricing structure, season ticket offers and occasional offers are all about making sure that as many can come as possible. That's all the club can do. What would help is for every season ticket holder and every regular fan to persuade a family member, friend, colleague to come to watch the team. What would help is for Inverness to recognise that it really is a "use it or lose it" scenario with ICTFC and reciprocate support for the club. What would help is for parents to decide to take their kids along when they have a free ticket from school, just once a season. What would help is if people supported CJT in fundraising so that we can help to improve the matchday experience. The only alternative, and it's one that gets more real every year is to sell our best players to meet costs and maintain rather than improve. Caley Thistle is a club that is probably unique in the SPFL in the access and openness of all aspects of the club to its fans. If you want to meet players and get your photo taken, it's no bother. They won't speed past you out of their training ground in a merc. If you want to speak to the manager or the chairman, pick up the phone - they are liable to answer it. If you want hospitality or to sponsor a player it won't cost a fortune. These people will go the extra mile to reward whatever support you give them. On the other hand Torville & Dean will never turn up at your kid's primary school and if you want to see them live, it'll cost an average £125 for your hypothetical family. If you want to go to the cinema and see Madonna, you know that the best you will ever do is catch a glimpse in Dornoch past the forty layers of bulky security guards that make Caly D look skinny, or if you are prepared to pay for a meet and greet, it'll cost you £1295 for a photo and one signed piece of merchandise. Each. I know where i'd rather my money went.

  28. When did we get Craig Brewster back? To my knowledge....Brewster never managed us in the Premiership splitting hairs there Don. He did manage us in the highest league available and between him and Charlie amassed our highest points total in the top flight. 58 points in 05/06. Charlie also had a remarkable record of 5 wins in the post-split games that season where we did not concede a single goal. 3 x 0-1 away wins and a 1-0 and 2-0 win at home. I will concede however that last year and this year might be regarded as 'better quality' finishes given that we had 57 this year (and 54 last) but it was in the top six so competing against far stronger sides. Its a lot easier to be the 'best of the rest' like some previous seasons than it is to be in the top six. 04-05: 44 : Robbo --> Brewster 05-06: 58 : Brewster --> Charlie Christie 06-07: 46 : Christie 07-08: 43 : Christie --> Brewster 08:09: 37 : Brewster --> Butcher 09-10: not in SPL : Butcher 10:11: 53 : Butcher 11-12: 39 : Butcher 12-13: 54 : Butcher (achieved in top 6) 13-14: 57 : Butcher --> Hughes (achieved in top 6)

  32. How about making season tickets more lucrative? Season tickets can also be used for 3 Clach home games. Season ticket holders automatically become members of the Caley Social club. Seaason ticket holders get a discount on Ironworks gigs. Season ticket holders get a half price meal at Kitchen on the River. Season ticket holders get a discount on membership at Forge gym. etc etc A little bit of cross promotion with other local businesses could go a long way. I'd also like to see the club have a bigger presence in the city centre. You could have a temporary stall set up in the High Street advertising fixtures and selling tickets. Most tourists could be forgiven for not even realizing Inverness has a football team. Kenny Shiels and Jimmy Nichol used to go around the pubs in Kilmarnock trying to recruit fans and sell tickets. He might have been a mediocre manager, but our club could use that kind of enthusiasm. Rather than waiting for fans to show up, go out, take the initiative and be proactive.

  33. I would Imagine all the higher ups of subway have the final say 6 figures is alot of advertising for 5 stores! With many franchises you're allowed to use the name provided you dont use it to the detriment of the parent company. So probably dont need a final say from higher ups. 6 figure sum (£100,000) is not actually a lot if said 5 stores are doing good business. I don't know the full details, but trust me when I say that Subway scrutinised ICTFC every bit as much as we did them before the deal (which had to be sanctioned by Subway head office in the US) was signed off. Whilst the primary exposure for them as a brand will be in Scotland (and it is that "budget" from which the sponsorship has come), they also recognise that our games...and thus their brand...will also appear globally. Something I think we forget/play down ourselves at times. Subway has been involved with the club for a while through one of the main community initiatives, but this takes it to a whole new level and I'm personally quite excited about the opportunity to be working with the brand to improve and build upon things like the matchday experience, promotions, cross-marketing etc. I see it as being far more than money in the pot....the real value will be recognised from having a sponsor you can work with to deliver all the aforementioned and stuff we've probably not even thought about yet. Here's a wee video that Auldy did with Liam....just in case you think I'm blowing smoke up yer ass!!!

  38. We played 19 home games this season. Just over 50% of the games kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday. Here is how the KO times break down: Saturday 15:00 - 10 games Saturday 17:30 - 1 game Sunday 12:15 - 1 game Sunday 12:30 - 1 game Sunday 12:45 - 2 games Tuesday 19:45 - 1 game Wednesday 15:00 - 1 game Wednesday 19:45 - 1 game Friday 19:45 - 1 game

  39. It is not just midweek that cheaper tickets have been made available for. In all occasions there has been an insignificant increase in attendances and on the evidence it is a convenient excuse. All clubs are broadly suffering from a reduction in crowds and apathy seems to be part of the problem. The main issue I would suggest however is the preceived lack of entertainment and from speaking with people who used to attend this related to the wider experience and not just what is happening on the park. I suppose it is easier for many to get a higher quality offering via TV.

  41. I genuinely think part of the reason is down to cost. A family of 4 going to the football is £46 alone for tickets before they even get there. I know kids go free if they buy season tickets but not everyone can afford to buy season tickets. Attending a football game is a luxury for many. I really don't know why they don't just make it kids go free with a paying adult for pay as you go supporters as well or even a nominal fee of say £2. Many on here disagree with the cost being the reason for low attendances and it may not be the case for everyone but I bet a lot of families out there cannot afford this.

  42. So I am not allowed to order bacon in certain stores because of someone else's religion? I doubt a pork only subway would go down well in the middle east but a new stadium to stone women to death...sign them up! I dont really care about the sponsor only the cash they can bring to a club I mean when was the last time you made a purchase based on what someone had written on their shirt? Hell I still dont even know what the orion group did...

  45. Your figures may be spot on regarding lack of revenue for the club but numbers wise, no Rangers, one home game v Celtic, County, games squashed together mid week, league games avoided as money was being spent on a cup semi and a Cup final, high united turnout for a cup but fickle amount of fans for a league game, hardly any St Jonnys either due to cup game. The league figures wont lie but the same fans may have just spread their cash across to the cup games aswell.

  46. I would rather pickle my own eyeballs than admit we miss sevco - but as Rene suggests, the luck of the SPFL 'computer' can have an impact on our average - although derby games with County aren't the full house they used to be. The reasons for this have been discussed ad nauseum and I'm almost regretting starting a thread on it after what has been an historical season, but I'm genuinely stunned to see us with just 3,500 in arguably our most successful campaign ever! Where are all the cup final fans? Apathy...and taking it all a bit for granted!!!

  47. I dont think the "glory days" are gone ..... they were apparently gone when Pele left, then Robbo, then Brew (V1.0) etc ......but ICT is bigger than any one man(ager) and we always seem to find ways to confound even the harshest of critics. Thats a big part of the fun of supporting ICT ! I agree that TB seemed a perfect fit for the club. A place where he could rule the roost and do what he wanted with basically a job for life - within a tight budget of course - but despite his declarations of love for the area and for the club he showed his real thoughts on the day when - still employed by ICT - he chose to socialise with his new employers when he should have been plotting their downfall. At least the players were professional that day ! That was the GTF moment for me and one that smacks of a complete and utter disloyalty to the club, the players he had signed over the last few years, and to the hard working supporters of our club who had backed him all the way through relegation and the 'bouncebackability' season. I thank him for what he did do for our club, I appreciate it and remember it fondly, but I really hope he falls flat on his face in each and every managerial or media job he takes from now on in ... not because he left, but because of how he left. W***** !!!

  49. I have just renewed (moved seats slightly) in probably the best value seats in SPFL £200 1 Adult + 2 under 16's section A (uncovered section) it rained once in all games at home this season (midweek and if we moved to empty seat don't think I would of got a row) on a slight tangent, because I had these seats when we made it to our first major final I was able to buy tickets for as many as wanted and thanks to CJT I was able to get a bus running from slightly out of Inverness.

Administration pending, unless... How can we go from SupercaleygoballisticCelticareatrocious in the year 2000, to Scottish Cup Winners in 2015, playing in Europe and just 9 years after lifting the Cup; Administration. Mismanagement and our demise was hastened by the appointment of Scot Gardiner. Ever since then, ludicrous decision making has seen our stock plummet whilst 'shady' dealings were investigated. The failed Concert Company, the Battery Storage, the Statkraft contract have all ended badly leaving the club facing insolvency.

That's another fine mess you've got us into.

      Chairman Ross Morrison resigns

Nothing official from the club as we speak, but the Inverness Courier are running with a story that Ross Morrison has resigned at 18:00 tonight 3rd June.  More to come as this story develops, but most fans are looking for more heads to roll.

Speaking exclusively to The Inverness Courier, Mr Morrison said he is leaving now because of the aftermath of the Fife move. “I believe it [the move to Fife] is the best way forward and I have to stick with my beliefs,” Mr Morrison said. “This is the reason I'm stepping down now.”

Reflecting on his time with the Caley Thistle, Mr Morrison said: “My six-year tenure with the club has had some great and some not so great times but through everything I was immensely proud to be the chairman of the club and clubs I’ve supported for 50 years - I was a Jaggie by the way.

“I would ask the fans to rally round the club at this time and show their support by not only purchasing their season tickets but also getting involved directly with the club to see how they can help.

“Hearing fans saying they would prefer administration to training the first team in Kelty sent a shiver down my spine. Administration is a desperate thing to happen to a club and must, at all cost, not happen to ICTFC.”
