10 Team SPL

Apparently if the SPL 2 comes about the favoured structure will see the SPL becoming a 10 team league.

It could be that the season after next 3 teams will be relegated with 1 coming up

Cant see that happening to be honest. A few club chairmen and sports commentators want a sixteen team league

A 16 team league won't happen just because Rangers & Celtic would only play each other once home and away

The 10 Team League proposition is old news.  David Sutherland (Tullochs) talked about it, and his support for it if memory serves, at one of the Fans Forums held in conjunction with the Supporters Trust.

Personally I can't see the SPL clubs voting for it, that would be like Turkey's voting for Xmas, especially with things becoming a bit tighter outwith the top 3 or 4 teams in the last couple of seasons.

agree, neither is likely to ever happen but it is obvious to almost everyone that something needs to be done.  The spilt seems like a temporary solution for a product not reaching its potential, although I do like the fact it is giving mid table teams something to aim for it guarantees the top clubs continue to make more money while the rest continue to struggle.  The only chance of generating some real intrest in Scottish football again is if there is a massive reshuffle of the leagues from top to bottom, it has worked extremely well for the Premiership and more recently the Championship, and it certainly wont help if we reduce our top division to 10 teams.
