I have to say that I was quite disgusted by David Murrays response to threats of a points sanction in relation to the sectarian chanting of the Rangers fans.  For too long we have seen nothing but lip service being paid to the problem by the larger clubs and now that they are faced with meaningful penalties they resort to type and start making threats of removing income from teams by refusing to take away tickets from clubs.

After a statement from RFC following the match that "The club is wholly committed to continuing its efforts to eradicate inappropriate behaviour." it would seem they now simply want to pass the buck.

On the face of it, this isn't a huge issue for other clubs as they would simply sell the tickets direct to away fans, but what it would do, or what David Murray seems to think it will do, is remove responsibility from Rangers FC for the action of the fans purchasing these tickets.  His argument seemingly being that if they haven't sold the tickets then they can't be held accountable for the actions of the fans buying them.

In short, instead of taking responsibility for the fans that follow Rangers FC, the club are looking to wash their hands of it and place the burden on everyone else.

As a result of this statement from David Murray all interviews with the SPL officials seem to have moved away from the threat of potential points deduction and now focus on the likelihood of a fine or even just a warning as it would be unfair to penalise the club for the actions of a minority of fans.

Yet again it seems that money talks and OF money talks loudest when it comes to the SPL.  If the SPL really want to battle the issue they should move immediately against these threats by implementing a ruling to close this loophole.

It will be interesting to see what David Murray comes up with to try and wriggle his way out of taking responsibility for the Rangers fans when they are at home.
