  1. Yes. We might have done better last night if Liam Hughes had picked the side and John Hughes had played as striker.

  2. I unfortunately could not make the game tonight, so my comments are only opinions from a distance, but here they are anyway: 1. Romantic as the cup is and fantastic as it was to experience last May, there is a much bigger fish to fry in staying up. I'm disappointed in the result, but am trying to see some positives! 2. I've not been alone in crying out for a change in shape and adoption of more direct tactics from JH and, in fairness to him, he appears to have given exactly that a shot tonight. That's not to say that his team choice to start was inspired, but he clearly adopted a more direct approach and we created more chances in the second half than all season. I think this will help to save us in the long run. 3. Foran and Meekings back is a huge positive. They will need time to get back to full fitness, but will be crucial in the fight for survival. 4. Hopefully, there are signs of an obvious first 11. Hughes is not a striker, so Foran and Storey must be an option? Tansey was a miss tonight, but he and Draper in centre of midfield and Warren and Meekings at the heart of the defence has to be considered (has this happened this season yet?) Tremarco is cemented as left back. The right back/midfield is between Polworth, Roberts and Horner. Vigurs and Williams are options down the left. 5. The County game on Saturday is more important than this one. Learn lessons from tonight - go direct and choose players in their rightful positions and we stand a chance. Continue to go with Hughes up front and Wedderburn and we'll be scuppered. 6. Lose on Saturday and we're in freefall. This is our Waterloo. Lose and we're in serious trouble. No time for weak-willed. Choose the best team we have available and go hell for leather for 90 minutes. Tippy tappy and respect are not an option. No excuses, no hiding places.

  3. It's part of the whole nonsense of being a 'fan' now at any top-flight club anywhere, or indeed at all major sports and concerts. I used to take a camera along to away games when we were in the old First Division and supply a couple of shots to Bryan Munro for next week's match programme. Even at home games I used to get action shots for this website. That all had to end when we got into the SPL where they had pro photographers at every game anyway. Your involvement in the game or 'event' is supposed to extend as far as buying your ticket and merchandise and concession stall food, then sitting down and watching the 'event' and generally being a good consumer and going home happy at the end. It's why I've been at only 15 ICT games this season and two or three ridiculously overpriced English matches. The other 40 or so have been non-League where you can stand and have a pint or walk around during a game and mix with opposing supporters and even chat to the players afterwards.

  4. Last night's performance and result raises a long list of questions but surely the most pertinent is why on earth did Liam Hughes play for 97 minutes ?

  5. I felt Josh was well off the pace to begin with but gradually got upto the pace of the game. I'm desperate to see our centre half's back together again, hopefully Hughes puts them together for the derby. Danny is simply not good enough, he's had this whole season up until now to prove himself but has not reached the required standard. I like the idea of storey and Roberts/williams as wide men and Richie as the target man, hopefully this happens for the Derby.

  6. It's time to drop Devine. He has made quite a few mistakes over the last few weeks. Lets get Warren and Meekings Partnership back together at CB

  7. My flabber has never been so gasted. Utterly distraught at that team selection and schoolboy errors. We are the worst team in the premiership at the moment and relegation is staring us in the face.

  9. Can't blame the manager for 2 unforced defensive howlers. Everyone was calling for a more direct approach and Yogi delivered. On another night one of the 50 or so balls we put into their box would've fallen for us. Just not our season. Time to focus on top 6.

  10. We have shown similar passion and desire quite a few times this season but seldom if ever for 90minutes and almost always when it's too late....

  11. I think we should lay off Hughes. I thought he did OK at St Johnstone with little or no support and provided umpteen knockdowns for anyone who was near or hungry enough. I did not see him after that but he deserves a chance in my book. The bile on here is certainly not going to do his confidence any good..........he must have shown something before being signed

  12. To be honest think the criticism of the young guy Liam Hughes a bit OTT. There is no doubt he struggled but to be honest who never last night. No idea if he is a centre forward or not by all accounts he is a midfield player, although I am sure he has also come on and played fullback. As someone quite rightly pointed out he is just another long line of players being asked to play outwith their natural position, as was Foran who has not played upfront for god knows how long.

  13. I'd love to know how many goals we've gifted the opposition this season through defensive errors. Fact is we were dire in the first half and lost the game there. And let's not kid ourselves, yes, we rallied in the second half but it could've easily ended up 4-1 to them if they hadn't missed 2 absolute sitters at the end. Team selection was bizarre, and I'm finding it hard to believe Hughes knows what he's doing. A Falkirk supporting mate of mine said at the time of Yogi's appointment that we'd have a fantastic first season with him, then it'll all unravel dramatically. Sadly, I think he's being proved right.

  14. Hibs might be lower league opposition, but man for man they're a better team then us. From our starting 11 tonight, around 3 would be good enough to start for Hibs (Draper, Warren, Meekings, and arguable OFW). They have real quality in Cummings, Stokes, McGinn and Henderson, all the types of players that can make things happen and win games with touches of quality. We on the other hand, didn't have a single player capable of that. I only wish Christie had stayed until the end of the season rather than spending it sitting on the bench.

  15. Awful team selection. Its no coincidince we were much improved after we made the substitutions. Why Hughes started up front and Storey was on the bench is ridiculous. What did Hughes do against Hamilton that merits another start tonight. Horner offered nothing in midfield as did Wedderburn. How did these guys start when Roberts, Williams and Polworth were sitting on the bench. If John Hughes doesnt come out tonight or tomorrow and admit he picked the wrong team i will be amazed.

  18. Interesting to note the wide variation in formation and players suggested on here. I think this sums up the problem we have at the moment - not a settled side and continually trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Do any of us really know what positions Storey, Roberts and Hughes are best in? What about Vigurs? How can you fit him in the team amongst Draper, Polworth and Tansey (when not suspended)? What about Horner? He's had a couple of shockers at right back, but a couple of decent performances too - is he better there or in midfield? All very messy and it shows in our play.

  20. Mutombo was in the gym a couple of days ago fully kitted out. Saw him again today, he was only doing upper body weights during the time I was there. I didn't see Liam Hughes against St Johnstone but think he is being given a bit of a hard time after last nights game. Yes he was quite ineffective but I thought the tactics in the first half were just that and like a lot of others he played his part in a system that yielded nothing. Like a few others have mentioned if he is not played in his natural position then he will never be as effective as he would be normally so I'll reserve most judgement until I've at least seen him where he normally plays. I thought he put in plenty of effort chasing down the opposition and in terms of aerial balls in he was on the end of plenty of them...they just amounted to no end product really. In the second half I thought he improved but then so did the entire team. Hibs were somehow 2 nil up at half time, having had a split share of a dull but fairly equal first half. The first goal was simply down to comical defending, two defenders could have cleared but in schoolboy fashion it bumbled over the clumsy pair at head height to the feet of Stokes who will probably never score an easier double. One thing that I noticed and has been mentioned is the lack of creativity in our team compared to theirs. I was left frustrated on a number of occasions by our players being skinned like they weren't even there. On top of that the situations where two of our players would closed down an attacker at the same time and he either skips through the pair of them(getting the break of the ball on occasion too) or he just plays it past them to his overlapping team mate who the two defenders closing down were not switched on enough to notice. Such simple stuff but happened time and again. They played it wide, played it back in then wide again. We barely ever do that, we played awful long balls this time with no substance. Does Yogi not remember how we equalised against Hibs last time? We don't have a Ryan Christie anymore to show flashes of genius like he did against Aberdeen but we definitely had players capable of quick creative play, they just weren't on the pitch. Hughes wasn't good, largely ineffective but did put in the effort. Wedderburn for me is not good enough to play for us, I wanted him to succeed but I can't remember a game where he has looked decent since his first against Astra. Meekings was poor at right back, skinned a few times but it's not like he has had game time or that he is a natural right back. Devine is not covering himself in glory at the minute so maybe it's time to get JM back in alongside GW. OFW had some good saves. I don't know what Yogi is up to but if he had played the right personnel gone for a different system I absolutely agree that this overrated Hibs team were there for the taking. Yes they're a decent team but no way are they deserving of all the cringe worthy loving they seem to get from the pundits especially on the back of 4 defeats and a draw.

  21. Came away last night really disappointed that we were out of the cup. However in the last half hour we showed more passion and desire than we have all season. More of the same and we should stay up. So good to have Richie Foran back. Just one question. Liam Hughes - why?

  22. I see Sturgeon has finally given up any pretence of having any respect for the democratic process. She has announced that the SNP will be campaigning for a 2nd indy referendum regardless of how the EU vote goes. It is no longer a question of making a reasoned (albeit flawed) argument that a Brexit, despite a Scottish vote to stay in the EU, is a sufficient change in circumstances to justify a 2nd referendum. They are going for a 2nd "once in a generation" referendum come what may and before they have even bothered to see how the new devolved powers work. It really is quite shameful. On the plus side, it does mean that the EU debate in Scotland can be about the EU and not about Independence. Not that anyone in the SNP will be wanting to debate the EU much. To do so would only draw attention to the absurdity of wishing to remain part of a massive bureaucracy in which an independent Scotland would have little influence but would be increasingly bound by it's very extensive legislation, yet at the same time, wanting to leave a long standing union in which it has major influence and from which it is increasingly getting devolved powers.

  28. Based on his control, touch, movement, passing, lack of pace - I'm not sure he has the attributes for that position either. A player out of his depth at this level, Wedderburn looks mobile in comparison.

  29. That starting line up was a disaster, no idea what that was about, playing Wedderburn, Horner (did ok), L.Hughes while Storey, Roberts, Polly, Danny were on the bench - our only creative players. The game was crying out for some pace and creativity from our side. Post match Yogi criticised the players citing the loss as down to individual errors - while correct to a degree, the line up put us in that situation and the players picked which falls at the managers door. This was possibly our best ever chance of reaching another final, OF playing each other and could have faced an inconsistent DUtd, instead we fall with meek, timid and niave tactics.

  30. Pretty certain the rules are! If a player is considered a danger to himself or the opposition, then he can be removed from the field of play. Therefore the referee can insist on a players removal. Examples are, a player walking on with normal prescription glasses, the referee would ask him to remove them, or leave the field. A player smelling of alcohol, (more for amateurs?) if the referee got the impression there was a smell, then he could ask for the player to removed. Apart from that not a great night for players, manager. But calls for Yogi to be replaced by Foran? Foran has no management experience.

  31. I agree with most of above, most of all the poor team selection. However, the Hobos are not that good, we just made them look that way with our defensive errors. Stokes must've thought it was Christmas all over again. They also cheated us with the antics of Oxley after the miss by Liam Hughes. That took the sting out of the momentum we had at the time. If the ref had any balls Oxley should've got a second yellow card. I now fear a drubbing in Dungwall on Saturday and a plunge into the play off place. We had a chance to re-start our season tonight and blew it big style.

  32. Combination of both lackadaisical defending and poor team selection cost us the game tonight. Why on earth was Josh Meekings playing at right back when him and Warren are the best central pairing? I also don't understand Hughes' obsession to stick Miles Storey out in the wings, when the boy is an out and out striker.

  40. But yet in your 3 posts you haven't raised a single thing yourself. As a number of posters have pointed out, it is the SNP who have high jacked the referendum to drum up further grievance for their independence campaign. Only Alex has tried to defend the SNP position by pointing out good reasons for Scotland to be part of the EU, but he seems to miss the point that these are also reasons why Scotland is also better being part of the UK. It would be helpful if the SNP would actually accept the will of the people as expressed in the independence referendum and respect the democratic process that follows. We voted to be part of the U.K. and therefore must accept the will of the UK as a whole. Only when the SNP can show a bit of leadership for a change and honour basic democratic principles can there be any hope of having a proper debate in Scotland on the issues which matter.

  42. I think there has to come a time when the injury list has to stop being an excuse, yes our luck has been rotten this year with injuries, but the fact of the matter is Yogi simply has not recruited well enough, be that lack of support from the board or just poor recruitment I dont know but we really lack pace when storey isn't starting and some of the tactics have been just shocking at times..We are definitely on the verge of being involved in a relegation battle and should we escape this year I really worry for next year under the current management team if this year's recruitment is anything to go by! On a positive note at least Foran managed a start tonight!

    • Inverness CT 2-3 (3-5) Hamilton - Play off final (relegation)
RELEGATED: Despite Inverness needing to get off the mark quickly, it was Accies that killed the tie inside the first fifteen minutes with strikes from Kevin O'Hara and Lewis Smith. Cammy Kerr reduced the leeway with a good strike from distance, but O'Hara struck again with a penalty before the break to diffuse the revival. We struggled to create anything of note and this reporter could not stomach any more and left the stadium. I'm told Alex Samuel pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but like the rest of the season it was too little too late.

    • Hamilton 2-1 Inverness CT - Play off final 1st Leg
A better showing from Inverness in the second half, especially with Lawal and Pepple on the park but it's Hamilton that take a one goal advantage up the A9 on Saturday. Lawal has been the standout performer in our last few games and surely he must start on Saturday. Pepple also did well, scored the goal, had an effort saved and got in a few balls across the box from tight positions.

Still, a shocker of a first half and we must be up for it from the start on Saturday.

The hurt, the pain, the reluctance and pig-headedness to listen to the fans asking what is going on, the lack of communication, the lack of ambition, the stench of mismanagement, the concert company, the battery farm, the demise since winning the Scottish Cup in 2015, the lack of passion, the lack of commitment, the dwindling fanbase, the lack of leadership. It has left the fans comfortably numb

However all is not well and we just kept our heads above water thanks to Arbroath being rubbish. Onto the play offs and an insipid performance at Links Park left us all wondering if our time has come to drop into oblivion. Our performance certainly would not look out of place in the lower leagues. We clung on for a 0-0 draw away from home and scraped a 1-0 win at Inverness with Billy Mckay saving our blushes. Everything about the club has negative undertones at the moment.

    • Inverness CT 1-0 Montrose Play-Off Second Leg (0-0)
Little Consolation: Inverness will face Hamilton Accies in the Play-Off final after nervously scraping past part-time Montrose who were eventually reduced to ten men when Blair Lyons was sent off after an off the ball incident in the 84th minute involving Morgan Boyes. Inverness had dominated throughout, but failed to capitalise on their possession, and as per the entire season failed to create much of note. The first half was livlier than the first leg, but the same problems showed up our lack of quality. We started with no wingers and Billy Mckay as usual in a withdrawn role. It's not worked all season, so why should it suddenly work now. A woeful first half ended goalless and it was on the hour and out of the blue when Billy Mckay prodded in from three yards to score the only goal of the game following a corner
