I guess it depends on where you draw the line with "rock" and where it becomes more "pop"

For 'rock' my selection would be : Freddie Mercury, Meatloaf & Roger Daltrey. There are probably others better but some of the names mentioned are familiar to me only by name and I dont know much of the music.

If we are talking pure singers, regardless of whether their songs are rock or pop oriented then I have to go with Freddie Mercury, George Michael (solo), John Lennon, Bono & Annie Lennox

Jim Bob Morrison, all you early '90s indy punk fans know who I mean.

I echo the sentiments of those who said Ronnie James Dio and James Hetfield. I raise you Jack Black.

Dont think anyone has metioned Robert Plant as yet!

Read back the threads SMEE :rotflmao:

Of the females I'd go for Alison Moyet and Suzi Quatro. Those who came about in the last twenty years or so dont count cos electronic enhancements are the norm.

Would agree with Alison Moyet as a very nice, pure voice ... not sure she is "rock" though. Yazoo with her and Vince Clarke were somewhat more synthesised electro pop than rock !

Talking of rock chicks .... heard a radio advert this morning for Bonnie Tyler who is playing over here soon.

Singers from

Tool/A Perfect Circle (that would be my number 1)

Maynard Keanan - yes, a fantastic voice!

What about the guy from Nazareth, that old rock band from the 70's, Dan McCafferty? Goin' back a bit for sure but he'd quite a strong, gravelly, rockin' voice...maybe not THE best rock voice tho!
