Don't know how to feel after that. Delighted to get through; furious with the refereeing 'performance'; concerned with our performance; worried if we'll have enough players to field a team in the final; pissed off with the 'fans' hurling missiles on the pitch; gutted for shane; proud of the defensive display; impressed by the determination of the players; ... All emotions in a day in the life of a Jaggie !9 points

Brilliant outcome to another inept Willie Collum showing. Defended brilliantly and whilst we didn’t do enough to win it in 120minutes, same can be said of Arbroath. Couple of points re the Young fans behind the goal, your support of the team was magnificent and really helps, but please stop with the throwing things onto the pitch, what on earth do you get from it? All that happens is the club get fined, and to be honest I cringe at that behaviour, and like to think we are better than that as a club. Really unnecessary.8 points

Well well, the morning after the night before. Firstly, it's impossible to ignore the elephant in the room, or should that be the donkey on the pitch, how that man can be regarded as our best official by anyone other than the egotistical W Collum is utterly beyond me. The man is a disgrace and I genuinely can't decide whether he is genuinely biased or merely hopelessly incompetent. He was right that Devine was the last man, he was right that a foul had been committed but it was blatantly obvious that Devine was the victim of the foul rather than the perpetrator. As far as Duffy's second yellow is concerned, he made a textbook clean tackle winning the ball which Collum very clearly saw nothing wrong with until he was influenced by the antics of the Arbroath player writhing on the ground. He ruined any chance of the match being a spectacle and made our position almost although as it turns out, not quite impossible. Like many others, when we went down to 9 men my mind immediately turned to Easter Road 2014. What an amazingly commited and resilient performance from the lads after that that left my heart sometimes in my mouth but more often bursting with pride Make no mistake, we rode our luck but deserved to and in the end deserved to win. I was one of those calling for Broadfoot to be 'rested' for this game and I don't mind admitting that I was entirely wrong. Man of the match for me and not just for his coolly taken decisive penalty but, saying that, they were all heroes. The fans were magnificent too apart, it has to be said from the idiots throwing objects onto the pitch. It's illegal, embarrassing and utterly juvenile. We value your noisy and enthusiastic support but if you are going to behave like that I, for one, would prefer that you stayed at home. The final will be a challenge with so many injuries and suspensions and with those who are available thoroughly fatigued but we are there, we have a chance and we have shown over the years that when it comes to what is effectively a cup tie we are capable of upsetting the odds. The dream lives on. This morning I am a happy and immensely proud ICT fan.6 points

What a result, fantastic penalties, I was almost in tears at the end of that. Conditions terrible for a decent game, wind spoiled it, pitch poor, which fortunately also nullified any threat from Arbroath bar one chance (I think they had 24 shots but only 2 on target) fair play to them they got in our faces and we couldn't play any sort of passing game, but even running with the ball was tough the way the ball bobbled around Willie Collum is a terrible advert for Scottish referees, how he sent of Devine is beyond me, Duffy very unlucky , he was done for a bit of a lunge despite clear getting all of the ball and barely any of their player who made a meal of it. Hope we can appeal Devine because the defence has been excellent. Good news is we will have two decent pitches to play on. bad news is we will miss Shane [and Walsh], Good news is in Chalmers, Doran, Mckay and Samuels we have players who can do some damage to St Jonhstone [ if we keep the ball on the deck] Will Allardice play a part, and is there anyway we can wheel MacGregor out? As we will need everyone we have over two legs Special mention to Hardy for that great run in the 2nd half, if he had got the ball on target, that might have been goal of the season...think he will play a decent part over two games And well done Broadfoot, for MOTM performance, who must now have two black eyes! Can we keep all the players on the pitch for the next two games? and NO objects on the pitch! [Great turn out though]6 points

Campbell says they were by far the better team on the night but sorry old man you just weren't good enough to beat us even with us at 10 and 9 men. We may not have looked that pretty but by jove we can defend all over the pitch. What a win guys!!!!!5 points

This pitch was rock hard, unwatered with 35mm grass if not longer, resulting in very poor football from both teams and greater than necessary injury risk. Arbroath were playing to their home advantage , but I am not in love with their idea of football or entertainment. They did not deserve to go through. Our sport scientists physios and coaches have a huge task ahead for us to be competitive on Friday. Trust the kids believe in Broadfoot and Ridgers, and hope we dont get Douglass Ross as part of the referees as he's the only pratt I like less than Willie colum.4 points

Forgot to say 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' to Bobby Linn. You are still a talented player but justice was served on Arbroath when you missed the penalty. That will teach you to get a player sent off.4 points

I think Billy's emotional interview tells its own story in how we all feel And to it against the odds AGAIN (Remember Hearts in 2014 anyone?) makes it all the more special .4 points

Highlights of the climax of the shoot-out can still be seen on BBC Sport https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61343068 Not enough has been made of the save that set us up. Brilliant from Mark Ridgers on top of the crucial one on one with Jack Hamilton. Well done Mark3 points

very disappointed with his post match interview sour grapes or what ? i would have a little respect for him had he said congratulations to Inverness on winning the game with 9 men as for Collum he should never be allowed to referee a game again the mans a disgrace3 points

Arbroath can't complain, they couldn't have had a better chance than their domination of the play, home advantage and facing a team down to 8 and 9 players. As Dick admitted they blew it against Killie anyway. I just wanted to add to all the deserved plaudits that our stamina was awesome. Two hours on a dreadful pitch and conditions with us on the back foot most of the time, not to mention two players less. Their commitment, their refusal to buckle, get their bodies in the way, refusal to give in, especially in that last ten minutes and the whole of extra time was phenomenal. And then to step up and score five out of five, with a fantastic save from Ridgers, after going through all they went through - what can you say? Heroes, all. Let's face it, St J will be a far tougher test, but with last night under our belt, the belief will be deep that we can once again defy the odds. Also I think we will be able to play better football against a less stifling, stuffy side. We are the underdogs, and that suits us fine.3 points

Great spirit, determination and organisation from the team and management. Horrible conditions and pitch limited any football so was delighted to see the penalties which were taken with aplomb. Well done young Cammy with his spot kick - big pressure on such a young lad and as for Kirk! balls of steel!3 points
-
Well Done to the players, management, travelling fans and everyone connected to the club last night. I too, felt I was back in 2014 as the number of players on the pitch kept reducing, but it made the victory all the sweeter. Keep on Believing!3 points

Random thoughts: 1) Are there still referee supervisors in Scotland? That is, someone sitting in the stand, observing and reporting to the SFA on the performance of the referee and other officials. If so, what would they make of last night? VAR is hugely controversial, but last night surely strengthens the case for it. 2) Was surprised and disappointed that Samuels was substituted at half-time. Hoofing long balls in his direction hadn't worked, but might have worked a lot better in the second half when playing with the wind. Even the commentators said so. He has to start next week - he has stature, and also acceleration. 3) Shane Sutherland - looked a bad one - I wonder if we will see him again. Two things came to mind - at best, dislocated kneecap, but at worst, anterior cruciate ligament. 6 weeks or so for the kneecap, 6 to 9 months for the ligament. 4) Kirk Broadfoot - earlier in this thread we were saying that he had been poor recently. So he takes the Man of the Match award, and scores the winning penalty. What do we know? 5) Not being able to immediately replace an injured player is daft. The rule - subs can be made on no more than 3 occasions plus half-time during the 90 minutes - needs to be amended to allow replacement of injured players. Mind you, that would be misused - "Hey Jimmy! You're injured - come off!" - so just scrap it.3 points

I think we had a poor first half. We didn't cope well with swirling wind conditions. However we were just coming on a game when the sending off happened. From then on it was all about getting to pens imho. Real back to wall stuff. Very proud to be part of the noisy crowd watching that. Even if some of it was through my hands....lol2 points

Absolutely fantastic night, if only Joe had kept his composure after his sublime run then we could have finished off the cheating f***ers in ET. Shades of David Bagan in the Scottish Cup. Fantastic performance on and off the pitch. Dont buy into the Arbroath luv in. Went down far to easily all game with Campbell, Douglas and Co roaming the pitch and touchline bitching about everything.2 points

I'm quietly reflecting on another night of high drama in the topsy/turvy history of our beloved ICT. Surprisingly, I slept quite well, due to, I'm sure, the several drams consumed during the game to keep me calm, and a couple afterwards in celebration. My informal Berkshire branch of the ICT fan club were in constant touch throughout the game, mostly in castigating that apology for a referee, Willie Collum. Next Friday at least 10 of us are all playing in one of our golf club's important annual competitions, which finishes with a dinner at 6pm. Great timing for us all to stay on at the club and watch the match v ST J, together. Anyway, another memorable night in store, I hope. Congratulations to the whole team and management for last night's magnificent, backs to the wall, performance2 points

I say, well done all the players last night with total commitment. Great support from the fans also. But the few idiots who threw items on to the pitch, wise up!!2 points

It appears that Willie Collum also reports for the BBC. This is what the BBC report said about Devine's red card. "The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Devine contested a high ball with Jack Hamilton and the defender pulled the Arbroath frontman to the ground as he looked to race clear." Brilliant spirit from the lads winning in such difficult circumstances. My thoughts are with Shane who was obviously in a lot of pain and looks to have sustained a pretty serious injury.2 points

Well done to Billy Dodds his management team and all the players for their great effort to hang on throughout the 120 minutes plus the penalty shoot out to see our team through to the final play off next week. Playing against 12 men is difficult!2 points

Incredible backs to the wall performance. With all that crap thrown at us, and one of the worst refereeing performances of all time, we stuck to our guns, defended resiliently, and then scored five great penalties. Never mind the quality of the game, let's salute the fantastic spirit and never say die attitude of our boys. Nerves of steel, and very well deserved.2 points

Caley Jags through We did it! If you thought the first half at Inverness was poor, then step forward the first half from Gayfield. Shockingly poor forty five from both sides as Inverness struggled to get out of their own half into the face of a stiff breeze. On the other hand Arbroath did absolutely nothing either. The second half saw Danny Devine sent off, Shane Sutherland stretchered off and later on Wallace Duffy sent off as we ended the game with nine men. Farcical stuff. However, we got through to the play off final after a 5-3 penalty shoot out win. Bobby Linn of all players having his spot kick saved by Mark Ridgers and Kirk Broadfoot with the final winning penalty after that save. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After a goalless draw in the first leg, the Caley Jags went to Gayfield to conclude the Premiership play off semi-final. The prize in a winner takes all game was a crack at St Johnstone in a two leg finale to the season and promotion to the Premiership for the victor. Logan Chalmers and Austin Samuels came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first leg in a game of limited opportunities. Who will prevail? All would be revealed around 10:00pm on Friday the 13th. Billy Mckay was benched for this one after cutting a lone figure in the first leg. Aaron Doran replaced the striker in the starting XI. Arbroath were unchanged from Tuesday night. A big crowd greeted the teams onto the pitch with similar conditions to the first leg prevalent. Inverness kicked off into the wind and that was the highlight of the first forty-five, apart from Aaron Doran breaking into the box but unable to dig the ball out from under his feet and Scott Stewart firing over the bar from the edge of the box. The only other thing of note was a booking for David Carson . Some things never change. HALF TIME: 0-0 Billy Mckay replaced Austin Samuels at the interval. Shane Sutherland got the break of the ball and burst into the edge of the box on the left side but his shot rippled the side netting. Carson shot over the stand minutes later as the visitors pushed forward. Better spell for Inverness and a wee melee in the box saw Arbroath clear the danger. Out of nothing, Danny Devine was red carded for next to nothing as he challenged for a high ball with Jack Hamilton. What a joke decision that was. Worse was to follow when Shane Sutherland left the field on a stretcher after looking like he has damaged his knee when pulling up. Hardy dribbled forward into the hosts box after the ninety but as the tackle came in his shot was lifted over the bar. A flurry of activity round our box in time added on as the nine men tried to hold out for extra time. We did that so on to another thirty minutes. 0-0 after ninety minutes. Inverness were back up to ten men with Lewis Hyde coming on in extra time. Mark Ridgers kept Inverness in the game when he blocked an effort from Jack Hamilton as he went one on one with the keeper. Colin Hamilton went close with a header after Low recycled a corner back into the box, the ball going just the wrong side of the post. Inverness wasted a free kick and corner just on the break and it was still 0-0 with the final fifteen minutes coming up. Wallace Duffy was given a dubious second yellow and we were back down to nine men for the final five minutes of extra time and Michael McKenna drifted a shot wide after a corner. A Nicky Low cross saw Colin Hamilton head across goal and the ball came back off the crossbar as Arbroath went for the jugular, and after yet another corner was cleared, blundering referee Willie Collum ended the tie and it's on to penalties. FULL TIME (after extra time): 0-0 Penalty Shoot Out B Mckay , Hardy Welsh Harper Broadfoot McKenna Low Colin Hamilton Linn Inverness through to Play Off Final after 5-3 shoot out win. Brilliant save from Mark Ridgers From BBC Sport Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "Anybody who knows anything about football knows we were way, way in front. But I've seen it happen in the play-offs. We had 600 passes, they had 300-odd. "We're not ones to feel sorry for ourselves. The whole season has been a fairy tale, it'll be memorable. We were close to immortality. We've got to repeat that next year. Christmas has come early for Inverness tonight I wish them all the best." Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Billy Dodds: "It wasn't about us getting through tonight, it was the circumstances we did it in. I have my feelings - I'm just keeping quiet because I'll get myself into trouble. "My boys gave me absolutely everything. We had to work our socks off That's the best bunch of boys I've worked with. I would have been proud of every one of them if we lost the penalty shootout tonight." I would normally congratulate Arbroath, as the only part time team in the division, on coming so close. However, the conduct of Dick Campbell and so many of his players makes that impossible and I would shed no tears if they were relegated next season. Well done to their fans though in turning up in such numbers.1 point

This one from 2008? https://caleythistleonline.com/team/fixtures.html/ Caley were then reduced to 10 men after Barrowman was red-carded for a second bookable offence. Vigurs netted the decisive spot-kick in a thrilling encounter as Tosh and Paul Lunan both missed for the home side to see them crash out 4-2 on penalties.1 point

I think the elephant in the room, which very few seem to have noticed, is that we were embarrassingly poor and couldn't string more than 2 passes together. Arbroath were way better than us and adapted to the conditions extremely well. To say they were desperately unlucky is no exaggeration. Just hope we don't embarrass ourselves against St. Johnstone. That said, I am absolutely delighted, and still can't quite believe that we prevailed. Perhaps in the next few days, if we could learn to string a few passes together, keep possession and keep the head, who knows what could happen. We do of course have history in defeating St. Johnstone to win promotion!1 point

With 9 (and at one point 8 ) players, Arbroath have only themselves. The only bit of luck we got was that header off the bar at the death, but I reckon we deserved a break at that point.1 point

Fantastic, absolutely fantastic!! Atmosphere was brilliant. Really hope we can finish the job and see off St Johnstone. Collum is a disgrace and I really hope someone took note of his totally inept performance last night. Never been prouder to be an ICT fan.1 point

Thank you Willie Collum. Magnificent result against the odds. Players looked absolutely drained at the end...apart from Mark Ridgers. We now play a side that drew in Turkey with Galatasary in the Europa League in August. Quite an achievement for our players to be on the same pitch as the St Johnstone players in the SPFL play off games. Hope we have 11 fit players for the two games. Not sure if Tom Walsh will be allowed by the SPFL to play on crutches. Hope Shane is not too badly injured.1 point

My nerves are shredded, but what a feeling. Also a feeling of deja vu, remember the Hearts game? play a team in maroon, we are down to nine men, they can't take advantage of having two men extra, we defend like crazy in extra time, and we win it on penalties. Campbell said something like arbroath had 600 passes to our 200 or so, but does he not understand that passes don't win games, goals, or in our case, penalties do. How Gollum gets away with some of the decisions he makes, is unbelievable. Michael Stewart had him sussed with his comments on Gollum. It always has to be the Willie Gollum show, but try as he did, he just couldn't get arbroath over the line. I really hope we can at least bring in some youth team players, to fill the bench, or we are going to have to rely on agents Rooney and McCart to win the next one! Well done all at ICT, you made a happy man very old!1 point

Now we need to go one better than the class of 2014 and win the final! Shocking refereeing deprives us of Duffy and, subject to an appeal we should win, Devine for the first leg. It looks like we have lost Sutherland too. Somehow though I’m starting to think we may just do this. I’m scared to be optimistic but we have great team spirit and the feeling of wanting to overcome adversity may just get us through this. Well done to all!1 point

The sad recent passing of Stewart Anderson has got me thinking about the many characters who set out on this epic journey with us the best part of 3 decades ago who are no longer with us perhaps other than in spirit and fond memory. I wonder whether it might be appropriate to create a memorial wall either within the stadium or on the concorse to remember them subject of course to the consent of their families and those closest to them. As the years pass it is inevitable that more will pass including former players, coaches and directors as well as well kent faces and voices among the crowd. Would it not be fitting to mark their association with the club in some dignified and permanent manner?1 point
