RiG, a little piece of learning for you...When I was being educated it was well publicised that Inverness people (except the Ferry area) spoke the nearest to Queens English.

I've heard people speak about it but have never really found any valid backing to these claims. Two drunk Invernesians were trying to tell an old Granny on a train to Aberdeen that they spoke the best English as they were from Inverness.

It was hard to take them seriously with dribble running down their face and one of them falling into the luggage rack.

always thought that was a load of pish myself, its probably more the case that in the past nobody in inverness even heard how others around the country spoke

im sure when those rumours were first started the queen was speaking in german

Always thought the claim was down to irony. As for the past 300 years every other accent you hear in town is English, rather than the natives command of the Queens english.  :024: :shrug02:
