How do you pronounce the year we are now in? Is it Two Thousand and Ten, or is it Twenty Ten? What do you say?

Posted

two thousand and ten. like two thousand and nine, eight yada yada.

Posted

Five thousand seven hundred and seventy.

Two thousand and ten is the correct way, but in modern times if anything with 5 syllables can be shortened to 3, then it will be.

Having thought about it...i reckon im more of a 2000 and 10 kind of fella!

What will you say in 10 years time?

2000 and 20?

The cricket world will be looking forward to the Twenty20 world cup that year.

In the last century would you have referred 1998 as nineteen hundred and ninety eight, one thousand nine hundred and ninety eight or just plain ninteen ninty eight. No different now. Its twenty ten.

I'm inclined to agree with Alex: "twenty-ten" follows the format of previous centuries.

The only reason for the initial question, I think, is that it's a wee bit awkward using that format for the first ten years.

What did you call 2009 - was it twenty-nine or twenty-oh-nine or just plain two thousand and nine?

I wonder what they called the first ten years of the last century - was 1901 called nineteen one, nineteen-oh-one or what? Could we have a little help here, Scarlet Pimple!!! :P

I take it you called last year twenty nine then ?

If you were counting up the numbers 1-3000, you wouldn't say... two thousand and nine, twenty ten, twenty eleven... so why should it be done with years?

And Yes, I do call the year I was born one thousand nine hundred and ninety...

Didn't use the 20 except when writing. Last year was O nine
