St Johnstone -V- Inverness CT

It would probably be setting a dangerous precedent for games to be replayed or points retrospectively deducted - it would descend into farce.

It really would open the proverbial can of worms. The season would end sometime in July with all the games backlogged. You'd leave a game not knowing if what you'd just witnessed was the 'proper' game or will it have to be replayed.

Imagine the following scenario with David Currie in the Sportscene studio "And now the classified results. Aberdeen 2 Kilmarnock 1 - this is a provisional result as Kilmarnock are contesting the penalty awarded to Aberdeen.

Celtic 2, Dundee United 0. This is also provisional as Jackie McNamara is convinced both Celtic's goals were offside.

St Mirren 2, Motherwell 3. Provisional. St Mirren are convinced that a Motherwell player handled the ball in the lead up to the 'winning' goal.

No point showing you the Premiership table on a Saturday afternoon - those days are gone - the table is published now on a Wednesday evening after the match videos have been scrutinised!"

Yes, it's a daft example but that's where we could end up. Results should be left alone - even if a team's been 'wronged'. Like in all walks of life, sometimes there are 'injustices'. Every club experiences incorrect refereeing calls and human error will always be part of the game.

I'm actually pleased to see a mechanism in place that I wasn't aware of - the retrospective citing of players by the Compliance Officer. This should be applauded, but perhaps a longer suspension for simulation is needed.

It's a cancer in the game and is so deeply entrenched, as is any attempt to gain an unfair advantage. You all too often hear of mangers, pundits, ex-players, current players, journalists and fans talking about "he was too honest", "he should have gone down", "that was a 'good' foul to give away" etc.

Who'd be a referee?!!

I'm over this incident now. Going to enjoy Xmas and then look forward to the games coming thick-and-fast until the end of January, while keeping my fingers crossed we can escape the transfer window intact. There's a lot to play for at ICT, we can't afford to dwell much longer on this.

Merry Christmas!

I don't mean to spoil your Christmas Sneckboy but don't you think that if we used a rugby style playback system, as incidents happen, en situ  then there would be less hassle than governing bodies and compliance officers faffing about whilst getting high fees and coming up with weak conclusions after the event. There would also be no need for your 'dangerous precedent' comment content!

Enjoy your dinner, sorry to disturb you.......

It's already a farce, Sneckboy.

So how about giving a penalty to the team who has been aggrieved, at their home ground: -

1. The aggrieved team would score and so it's settled. A draw and each gets points.

2. The team taking the penalty would not score. That's fair, then they simply have to accept the outcome as part of life.

3. The team who did the dirty deed will have to pay for a player to travel from Perth to Inverness, hitting them in the pocketbook.      That will stop it.

4. The end result will be that this will go a long way to stopping diving in the penalty box. If the ref can't make up mind then he blows to stop the play and he stots the ball-- then first to the ball  wins a great chance to get rid of it into touch or the other team has a great chance to score.

BUT, currently, I still think that ICT should make a formal complaint and be awarded the points. If it was a case in the Courts, then they would because there is absolute proof that cheating took place.

Of course we all know that nothing will happen anyway so when that ref comes calling again we boo him off the park?

Why, because ICT has been seen to be the "victim" of poor refereeing too many times in the recent past for it to be just a coincidence. Sorry, but we are still seen as that  highland team that will never amount to much and will never be a lucrative addition to the SPL- so penalise them first and let the questions come later.

It's not inconceivable that one act of cheating could "earn" a club 10's of thousands of pounds from an additional league place and qualification for Europe.  Factor in things like potential increase in crowds from Euro qualification, additional merchandise sales etc and the financial gains could easily be a healthy 6 figures, maybe even 7 figures if you can get a wee run going.

On that basis the current system of punishment is out dated as it is "soft" (in comparison to the potential gains) and no longer fit for purpose as it does nothing to compensate the team which has lost out as a result of the cheating....redress is pretty much non existent.

This is something that has been recognised in cup tournaments where cheating can now result in a game being replayed...or a team being removed from the tournament and the other team advance in their place.  There's no reason a similar approach/attitude should not be applied to league tournaments.  What's more, does it not seem bizarre that the league will happily strip points from a team for off field irregularities, but not for cheating on it!?

I haven't seen anything about us appealing Draper's red card, so presumably we have accepted it?

Appealing red cards is quite a difficult affair...especially when it's not a clear cut case.  When it comes down to the likes of the Draper one, where there is contact and it falls to refs opinion, then you are basically relying on him changing his mind in order to have it overturned....and that rarely happens.

Again, it's an example of a system that is not fit for purpose as you are asking the person who made an error to admit to it and have a mark placed against them on their record....and it costs the club £500 to ask the question!

He's only missing one game, as he'd be missing the Utd one anyway.

So, by diving, he gets:

1) 3 points for his team

2) win bonus

3) goal bonus

4) post-match adulation from fans and teammates

And just misses one game as a result. Not much of a deterent, is it.

The annoying thing is that the Scotish media is so weak and toothless. Next time he's up for interview, will anyof the journos ask him why he launched himself into the air half when he was still a foot away from Brill? No, of course not.  He won't be villified at all and it'll all be forgotten by tomorrow.  Except by us.

But how times has an ICT player gone down to easy or from no contact

It's precisely that kind of approach to thinking on the subject that prevents it being dealt with.
