I don't remember the the school of motoring from the early 70's with the Austin 1100, Volvo 245 estate, Peaugot 204, Hilman Imp, Mini, Vauxhall Viva HA (I think), Ford Escort & Ford Zepher.

The red 1100 learner car seems to say "Kennedy" and I do vaguely remember a motoring school of that name in the past. It is also a "K" registration which I think is 1971-72 so the pic is probably early/mid 70s.

Do these still exist ?

Based on the hat still in the back window of the 1800, I am taking it that this is the "car sleeper" rather than a means for the motor trade to transport cars about the country. I suspect these don't still exist and as far as I know the motor trade relies largely on shifting cars by road using transporters..... judging by the number of the bloody things parked throughout the Longman and blocking the roads in the morning when I am desperate to get to Cobbs at HIS for my bacon roll and coffee:redcard:

No not for a long time it was the cheaper flights that ended the old motorail service, that looks like Carlisle Station IHE

The old magic roundabout!  Academy St at junction of Queensgate, a Chrysler Talbot with Volvo 144 pulling out in front, Triumph 2000 beside bus and back end of Vauxhall Victor in front (I think), not sure what the white one on the left is!

Cortina Mk3 estate, Triumph Dolomite & another Cortina (I think) heading in Eastgate.  Austin 11/1300, Triumph Dolomite, Volvo P180 estate, Ford Escort, Hillman Huskey, VW Beetle, Bedford HA & Dormobile, cant make out the rest.

Have a good trip IHE.

And does that station frontage not look FAR better than its current replacement?

Yes Charles you are right, but a new station should be built to the east of Morrisons and the present one should be demolished and become the new bus station incorporating a taxi rank.  The entrance could be the present one to the rear of the station and exit through station square.  The old memorial could be moved to Farraline Park and sit nicely in front of the library which could become civic square. Just dreaming again
