Opened up this morning to find heading the page an advert for e-bay selling "Celtic" shirts etc.

On AN ICT supporters website!

Come on you organisers get this kind of advert filtered out!

Caley D...no offence my friend but surely you can see that the issue is not adverts per se'...its this site being used as a selling point for other clubs merchandise that is the issue Ebay or not...

the OF have a financial stranglehold on this countries game and we need to get rid of this. However i do understand that you as a free website need advertising revenue to run it but surely that doesnt mean we have to advertise the selling of Celtic shits ( ooh i meant shirts) on this site

I understand where your coming from, but aside from the fact it's near impossible for us to filter to that level, as I said elsewhere...look at it from the point of view that the OF are helping fund this forum and I just see it as amusing.

If we could find another way of funding the site then the adverts would be gone altogether....but we don't have that option right now.

Make it mandatory that everyone pays ?10 a year to post on here. Then you can get rid of the adverts. Unless people do that then th adverts are here to stay.

At least the Celtic items advertised exists. A similar thread appeared on the U2 website i use, where ads were appearing offering pacakges to gigs in Holland (costing many 100's of pounds), when the band arent even touring!

The ads dont actually bother me on here.....i hadnt noticed them till i read this thread.

I have a feeling that the comment was made severely tongue in cheek

Partly yes but also no. We are lucky to have a site like this that is free to post on. I don't know the costs in running the site but they need to be met somehow and advertising is the only realistic revenue generating method available for this site. Unless of course folk want to start chipping in then it is a necessity for the site to survive.

How ironic is it.....after my post, that on that the ebay ad, they are now advertising U2 stuff :o

That's good as the system is suppose to work like that and if your seeing adverts about something being discussed on the page then it's working to full effect.

Doesn't seem to be working on the dogging thread ...................

If that's how you get your jollies and it's the kind of links your looking for then I suggest you cast your net a little further afield than a football forum.

Just had a thought perhaps the club might like to advertise our shirts on here, then we could get rid of the Celtic stuff.

The only problem with that is we would never charge the club for advertising, so it would be self defeating on our part. We do have space on the front end of the site (news/info part) and the club have an advert there. We also offer advertising to any company/business who wants to advertise there (which we charge for) and if we got enough support in that regard then we could look to extending those adverts on to here instead of the random google ads. So if you own, or know anyone who owns a business and they want to lend their support and advertise on a website that gets 5,000,000 plus page views a year then feel free to point them in our direction.

I'vee been ripped off! It said ?12 to remove the ads and it cost me ?12.22. Suppose it's 'cos of the exchange rate to monopoly money in Canada, eh? The ads didn't bother me at all but if it helps keep this site going, why not? ?1.02 a month isn't a kings ransom.

many thanks. payment received via paypal.

Looking at you lying on a hammock sipping cocktails when you thank me gives me a few doubts. :rotflmao:

I think the problem was due to the fact that my paypal has CDN as a default and the exchange rate was a little off. I have now changed it to pounds by default and 12 should now mean 12 :018: We gave you an extra month on the sponsor membership level.

mmm, yup, better change that one .... dont want everyone to think we relax and do nothing while living of site donations LOL.
