I already give over £300 per season for my season ticket with arguably limited value for money - why would I just give a charitable donation to a business? Giving hand-outs doesn't do anything other than encourage spending outwith your means which means in the future another hand out is needed. If my business cant run at a profit then it will fail - nobody will just donate me money, this whole idea that football clubs should be exempt from normal business practices including balancing of the books is a bizarre one.

I'd encourage supporters to play the centenary club. I won it once and bought season tickets with the money. I still think the club could be doing more to increase revenues - St Johnstone's business model is worth investigating. I'd also encourage the directors to sit with supporters in the north stand for a few matches to get a feel for how poor the match day experience is. Reopen the 'west stand' next season as a standing area and offer reduced price season tickets. Better view and might improve the atmosphere at the ground. Offer a book of ten match tickets as well as season tickets. A number of fans travel to home matches. Sorry to be negative here OP.

This is an excellent point. The facilities for the North Stand are a disgrace (the PA is barely audible and the mens toilets don't even have seats!). The club have tried desperately to get new fans in but have forgotten the ones already there. I can point to seats around me of people who've just stopped going altogether. Is it any surprise when the club clearly doesn't value the fans they have and believe they deserve the bare minimum? I'm sure it's nice and warm in the hospitality suits though...

I wish people would stop touting Butcher for the job - he's had his time & we need to look forward & leave previous managers out of it. Think the GM/D of F post would have to be filled 1st, as wouldn't this have a bearing on the sort of manager/head coach we would be appointing? No point hiring a manager who then falls out with the gm/d of f-or vice versa!!
  5. Same was a big critic of foran in hindsight not nice as he was 1 of the best players to wear a caley strip! Would've no doubts been a good assistant learn the job first! But hope he returns to football soon as good luck foran

How about the players give the fans £100?

I would take anything that the Aberdeen obsessed Press & Journal print about us with a pinch of salt. Their track record of accuracy on matters ICT is hardly glowing. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they simply lifted the speculation from this site.
  8. 3 points
Yes they should give their £200 fuel allowance and wear more clothes when it gets cold, also saves on global warming.

Would we even be considering Sheerin if he hadn't played for the club?
  10. 3 points
The list of names is in general pretty uninspiring. The number one is probably Hartley but that's not saying too much. Sacked by a team just about as bad as ours. Did well previously with Dundee but was that when they might have had a wee bit of money to spend? We don't. Butcher had his chance and chose to go onto bigger things. Or so he thought, so no thanks. Paul Sheerin. Why? What has he possibly done to deserve a job here. Utterly ridiculous choice in my eyes and would be as big a disaster as Foran. Only being considered as he used to play here, you would have thought we would have moved on from that. Darren Dods. Don't know too much about him as a manager but It appears that he's done a decent job at Brechin. i know the Huddersfield manager came from Dortmund B and that's out of our reach clearly. But I wouldn't be against a left field young foreign manager who has a decent record at a lower level. There must be someone out there better than Jimmy 'says aye to a Killie pie' Calderwood.
  11. 2 points
And Malpas. He was offered the job when Butcher went and turned it down. We should leave his 'come and get me' plea unheeded.
  12. 2 points
The selection of candidates named on STV news is not exactly inspirational, Barry Wilson seems to be touting for Sheerin and is implying that the appointment should be made sooner rather than later. Without having anyone on the board with any depth of football knowledge I do not think this appointment should be rushed, It is in no way imperative that a decision should be taken now, players will still be available in a week or two. Neither was I impressed that the Chairman is currently on holiday doesn't really smack of commitment does it.

    Even retired ones?

Brian, I don't want to seem discourteous to someone who doesn't post very often, but in several ways I think you are right off the beam here. Your sentiment isn't totally new, but it's just completely wrong headed to propose that individuals, some of them possibly not all that well off themselves, should make voluntary donations to sustain the wage levels of footballers who are already being paid well above their realistic market value. Football really needs to get a bit of a life and realise that in the rest of the sporting world, or indeed in much of the rest of the world, you can't make a killing on the strength of not being very good. Indeed I often wonder if much of Caley Thistle's difficulties originate from a willingness to pay well over the odds to individuals of limited ability and, if the previous manager is to be believed, in some cases of questionable commitment. Historically, football fans complain about the cost of watching a mere 90 minutes of entertainment - a description which sometimes struggles for validity. They do so with some justification. So, what you are now proposing is that everyone should voluntarily increase the cost of their season tickets by a third by stumping up another £100 out of the goodness of their hearts. In fact, you also seem to suggest that even the 15,000 at Hampden in 2015 should do so. There really isn't the remotest chance of that. If 12,000 of these people aren't even interested enough to pay to go to regular games, what chance a voluntary £100 supplement? I would suggest that many of the 2500 or so who regularly attend have to make financial sacrifices elsewhere for their football, but here you now are asking for £100 a head to boost the back pockets of guys with flash Mercs, Beemers and SUVs who earn far more than these poor punters do. Bdu98196 is spot on. Football seriously needs a reality check. The expectation that anyone - the rich or the ordinary punter - should subsidise players' unrealistic wage levels is plain nuts.

I always wish my life away until managerial vacancies are filled. All these days of plucking names randomly from anywhere, usually based on no concrete evidence whatsoever, are just a complete waste of time. I would just lock the directors in conclave in the boardroom until such time as they are able to tell Tommy to go and release some white smoke from the woodchip burner. But I am still sticking with my original punt of well known Dutch coach Ruud Boogers.

This is simply the most important appointment in the history of the club. The board have to get this right. I would of thought an approach for someone would have happened pretty quickly once the announcement of Forans departure was made. Surely some thought was put into a successor before Foran was punted. If not its a disgrace. We need a new manager in quickly so he can decide which players to keep and more importantly get players in. Next season is such an important one for the club. Get it right and it could galvanise the whole club and city. We have the foundations of a team there which could easily challenge for the title. All we need now is the right man to lead them.

Was Paul Sheerin in charge at Arbroath when beat them 7-1 in pre-season friendly back in 2013? Seriously though, although he has had experience as a manager I think ICT might be a step too much for him unless he has the right assistant at his side. And I don't think Maurice would be that man somehow. I just hope we make the right choice in the end whatever the speculation may be.
  18. 2 points
The club wouldn't bring Latapy back. His influence on the team was by many accounts, was minimal and his behaviour and lack of dedication was why he was removed from his position. There's absolutely no chance of the club considering him. Jimmy Calderwood seldom turned up when he was County manager. Not a nice man either. No thanks. We need a professional, not a dinosaur.
  19. Armstrong was indeed let go because of relegation - we didn't field an u20 team (or whatever the equivalent was called then) when we were in the first division, so Armstrong was one of a lost generation. Regrettable! I assume that similar considerations are being made right now for next season - hopefully there is a realisation that youth is the most cost-effective option for filling holes in the first team squad. as for Bowden and Mulraney - I'm not surprised on either count, but I think Mulraney could tear up the championship. I think it was against Dunfermline this season that he was unplayable. Unfortunately, it seems that Foran is still making the decisions. He should have been relieved of any role in decision making, given his track record over the season. The worst apple is still at the club and must be removed immediately.
  20. Here's an interesting warning in the Herald Sport from Graeme Shinnie about throwing the wrong ballast over board 'Armstrong has been one of the form players in the country this season and if he performs as he has both domestically and in Europe, as well as for Scotland on his international debut back in March, his side will be difficult to beat. The 25-year-old’s resurgence after a difficult season and a half hasn’t come as a great surprise to Shinnie, who first came across him when he was coming through the youth ranks at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. But the rise to prominence of a player who is reportedly interesting several Barclays Premier League clubs in England has also underlined to him how badly the Highland club blundered by letting him go. “Stuart was at Inverness at the same time as me,” he said. “He was coming through in the U17s when I was in the U19s. “Caley actually released him because they needed to cut money after being relegated – which was a major mistake on their part. They will be kicking themselves for that. “You could see back then that he had a lot of potential, but the decision was financial because of what happened. '

The season from hell is just over and yet Friday sees the draw for the League Cup sections, which start on 15th July. Despite finishing 12th in the Premiership, ICT are one of the 4 top seeds in the Northern section, along with Hearts, Dundee and County. Second seeds are DUFC, DAFC, Hibs and Falkirk. Then there are 12 unseeded clubs from Raith Rovers down to Buckie Thistle, making 4 groups of 5.
  22. When he grows up he want to be Darren Dods....

Surely some contractor could donate a barrow full of concrete to eradicate the "puddle in the pie queue" problem? We have a building company with naming rights to the main stand...and a civils contractor on the training kit...surely between the two of them we can do something with the existing infrastructure in and around the stadium? I'd rather see solid investment in the ground(or a new one) and proper, modern training facilities than pay over-rated underachievers over the odds. i don't know where the extra money is coming from, but if there was an outside investor, that's where I'd rather see the money going. as a multiple player sponsor, a family of season tickets and a regular #caleyaway 'er I would grudge parting with yet another £100 for no return, when there are plenty of business around the area who would be happy to right off some money for tax purposes! I'm sure AuldyBoy does a great job getting money in the door, but maybe free services could be an avenue that is explored too...
  24. I really hope we're not too late with all this....think we are. None of the players out of contract can afford to hang around to see what happens - they are redundant as of tomorrow. Without a new boss in place, who can make a footballing decision about who should be offered deals? Worse still, there's bound to be a bad smell about the place (rotten apples), so who would want to stay? Meekings is a top player and his loss this year was a key part of our demise - Warren suffered without his pace alongside. The only hope of him staying is to complete his recovery and get himself back in the shop window. If that's an option, I'd grab it!
  25. 1 point
Jim Duffy is worth considering. Yes I know he may seem dull and uninspiring bu he has done a really solid job with Morton this season on a very tight budget.
  26. I think Meekings is easily the best centre half the club has ever had.
  27. So maybe Meekings isn't away just yet then

Malpas has issued a "come and get me plea" according to today's P&J. Hopefully the fact that he has to issue a plea means that we aren't considering him. I do get the feeling that we didn't plan following the sacking of Foran and will probably end up appointing some useless jobber in a hurry.
  34. 1 point
Back page of the P&J names Sheerin, Gus McPherson and Malpas as candidates. All uninspiring candidates, Sheerin had an up and down tenure.p with Arbroath and now coaches kids, Malpas has a poor managerial record on his own and Gus McPherson got his team relegated last time he managed at the level we are at. If these are the sort of candidates we get then it suggests we're trying to do things on the cheap and haven't really planned for Foran leaving. Hopefully it's just a load of paper talk.

Why do so many fans want to back for previous managers?. The club needs new blood both on and off the field, not those who were here in the past.
  36. 1 point
Arrigo Sacchi - zero caps Alex Ferguson - zero caps Jose Mourinho - zero caps As for not having Paul Hartley because some Dundee fans didn't like him, did they dislike him when he led them to promotion? Did they dislike him when he got them into the top six? Was he unpopular at Alloa when he got them promoted twice despite having no money to spend? Arsene Wenger seems to be pretty unpopular at Arsenal these days. van Gaal left United under a cloud. Would we also turn them down because football fans are fickle? Instead, we can have Paul Sheerin - was he popular with the fans when he relegated Brechin? Were they cheering Barry Wilson at Borough Briggs when Elgin lost time after time? I wouldn't be against any of these but at least have some thought behind it.

Way off topic but how good does the development league setup look? One for another day. . . Sheerin plus experience (Malpas) for me. Although Peanut plus Barry Wilson / Robson gives me the nostalgia tingles I cant ignore.............!!

Butcher didn't cover himself in glory when he left but nobody can knock his signing.some are still here and maybe a bit wary about staying but under him I believea lot would stay.he seems to have the ability to get young talented players to come north which other managers don't have.Butcher all the way for me.

If Calderwood got anywhere near the front door of the stadium I'd be more than likely not to go to a game. His disgraceful bullying of a young lad at Aberdeen (maybe Killie I can't recall at this time) was utterly shameful.
  41. 1 point
I think Peter Houston indeed is a solid performer. He certainly had Falkirk jildied up to face ICT in the Scottish cup final. Could be worth a chit chat. Butcher was a traitor who was definitely, in my humble opinion, in close contact with the Hibs Board BEFORE we even knew about it. Then he sat in the stand with their Directors before the plug was even pulled out fully. No thank you. John Hughes ...well he walked out in a huff it seems and his exit was far from non-controversial and did no particular good to ICT. Any future contract would have to include terms for repayment of the extra money he got for non-managing ICT immediately after his departure. ANd a stronger contract put in place between the parties to ensure that that situation did not happen again. Problem is that , generally speaking , a leopard does not change his spots .....eh?
  42. Ludicrous if Mulraney is being let go - would suprise me as would the club have used him for the launch of the new tops? I know he's been a bit 'pace but no final ball', but he is a young player with lots to learn - a decent prospect. Boden..not too fussed one way or another. Makes you wonder who'll be left in the squad if we are shunting out players on long contracts? Rather Foran left, to be honest..
  43. Again, this seems moot - the players that will remain are the ones that either don't have a relegation release clause written into their contracts, or those willing to take the pay cut to stay here. The likes of Brad and Ebbe with 'options' will wait and see if anything presents itself, but a successful season in the Championship will guarantee them in the premiership next year, either with us or by putting themselves into a shop window. We need a less sentimental and more hard-line approach to contract negotiations. Josh and Tansey refusing to sign extensions should have guaranteed they went up for sale. That goes for everyone. Little money is better than no money, which seems to have happened a hell of a lot! If a contract is put on the table and refused, then cheerio!

Does Terry Butcher still have his house in Abriachan? He would be my ideal pick.
  45. Cammy Tremarco, Warren, McKay Raven Mulraney Vigurs, Polworth,Doran Boden Ebbe with the exception of Doran's wage being a stumbling block, I don't see much wrong with this line up as a potential place to start. Brad Mckay's level may well be suited to the Championship, but if his wage demand aren't met, and he can secure alternative employment who could blame him for moving on. would love big drapes to stay, but suspect he'll be on the a96 bus as well?

It's not been mentioned here yet but I'd like to throw Russell Latapys name into the mix. Whilst he lacks managerial experience he was assistant during our most successful ever period. He also brings with him a wealth of international and big club experience as a player. He knows the club and the players already. He left in the search for a managers job. There's one available now.

How many toilet seats do we need. are they missing or are they the ones with the wooden fixed rim ? I would like a 55" tv for the main north stand to replace the broken one that always plays up. £330. http://www.very.co.uk/luxor-55-inch-full-hd-freeview-hd-led-smart-tv/1600124526.prd?crossSellType=item_page.recs_1 And some 120w sound bars at £40 for the stands. You only need one to see how it sounds before buying more. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/4181310?cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59158|cid:200217410|agid:12488203010|tid:pla-135050184290|crid:66128550050|nw:g|rnd:18297507816274480591|dvc:c|adp:1o1&gclid=CjwKEAjw07nJBRDG_tvshefHhWQSJABRcE-ZE_sdphgxW4WF1yv15cP6vdk5PP7KCGbT9IzfzQ1YFhoCCP_w_wcB

Finance will be required next season and we should be very grateful to the business men who finance the club but it should also be up to "the little guys" also. If every true fan, or almost true fan gave £100 - everyone who went to Hampden for example - it would add a reasonable amount of money for the Championship challenge. It would need some organising. They could also speak to the local shops bars and businesses.
