Platini scraps plans

Platini has had his plans for domestic cup competitions rejected. Under his plans domestic cup winners would have qualified for the Champions League. Stupid idea really cos if a smaller club has a good cup run they would represent their country in the Champo League. Apparently Scotland's champion will automatically qualify for the group stages from 2009 which is good I suppose

Cup winning teams in the Champions League was never going to happen. From the point of having more actual "champions" of some kind it would have made sense though, considering the name of the tournament. Perhaps if they just rename it the "Big Clubs With Money League" it'd stop people from questioning why the majority of teams in the group stages of a CHAMPIONS league aren't actually champions
