Post split fixtures, who ? where? why?

Celtic H

Dundee A

St Johnstone  A

United A

Aberdeen H

If the above are in the top six, the home and away games don't tally up for all clubs again so one out come would be for  Aberdeen to play Celtic an extra game away from home and we play Celtic one extra at home as we did lose out on a Celtic home fixture last season.

Not sure that last season would even come into consideration so would fully expect Celtic away as they shouldnt be expected to have to travel all this way being champions elect for an extra away game and something like St J or Dundee as our 2nd home game.

Cost of travel makes up a massive chunk of my expenditure for going to games home and away. Fortunately most ICT games don't get moved for TV so you can normally pick up check advance tickets for the train or a cheap bus fare safe in the knowledge that you won't run the risk of the game being moved. But fixtures being moved or being revealed only a couple of weeks before they are due to be played means you obviously cannot plan any travel and if you do decide to go then you are having to pay a small fortune just to travel to the match.

I just don't like the 'split' in its current form, often with mismatches of home-and-away games against some teams - and/or even a 20-18 overall home/away imbalance.

I'd like the 42 SPFL clubs split into 3 leagues of 14. (Retaining the new 'pyramid' play-off between the bottom club vs the champion non-league side).

Play your 13 opponents home & away, giving 26 games, then have the split - into top/bottom halves of 7 clubs.

Post-split would simply be meeting those teams again (6 home : 6 away) giving a further 12 matches and a total of 26+12 = 38 league fixtures. Same as now, but a completely 'even' composition of fixtures!

This has merit for the fans anyway. It wopuld also lessen the risk of clubs being relegated as a bigger league and fixture numbers remain the same so keeps the finance people happy. Will not happen though as clubs will kick back at their season being written off after 26  games if in the bottom half of the table but not in any danger of relegation. Given that we already havea 1 2team league with 3 "gig" clubs in the Championship, a 16 team league would be even better although only 30 games plus cups. Would this generate more revenue as some fans would go to more games where they pick and choose just now due to the cost?.

Think that RIG speaks fer a lot of our fans here. Even the nonsense with the semi final adds to the difficulties. During the season there is ample opportunity to make travel and overnight arrangements at a relatively decent cost. I would have gone to at least one home game and as many away days as possible. Now I will be lucky to get to one. I have a hunch that the Top Six end games will be total anti climaxes although the issues at the other end may be the money spinners but I can't see that scenario ever happening again.

I also have to concede that the novelty of many of the away days has dwindled significantly. Stranraer was the best trip fer ages. At least the return of the Jam Tarts and hopefully the Hibees are welcomed.

These are indeed our confirmed top-six opponents. Good call!

The fixtures must surely be announced soon?

Can't see Celtic coming back to us and also with our outstanding game with United is at home, I'd suspect the split game will be away therefore:

Dundee United H/A

Celtic A

Aberdeen H

St Johnstone A

Dundee H

The announcement can't be too far away as the 1st post split match is 25/4 then 2/5,9/5,16/5 then 23&24/5.There aren't any mid week fixtures booked in so we can really play united any time.

I hope they can give fans as much notice as possible but they will prob consult the TV comps 1st.

Deleted my thread to avoid duplication.

I'm pretty happy with them to be honest. I guess the other games are going to be 15:00 kick offs but it's odd they don't seem to have confirmed that.

EDIT: Their we flyer thing has the KO times but not the website, or at least it didn't when I had a look a minute ago.

18 home games and 20 away this season.

I make it 19 Home, 19 Away - we have played 16 H & A so far, and have a Home game v Utd TBA. The post-split games are 2 H & 3 A.

Cheers - I've just realised that! So we've Dundee United at home twice. They will not be pleased about that!
