So in theory, the current 3rd division this season is pointless and a waste of time?

Only pointless if you see no pride in winning the current 3rd Division and getting the trophy that comes along with it.  For a man who's done a lot of shouting about how important titles are and wanting to hold on to them, it seems a little strange that he would see "The Rangers" first real title as being worthless.

Might be a small point but, on the subject of titles, once the new system is up and running, who will get the current 1st and 2nd division trophies? Will it be the winners of the 2nd 8 and 3rd 8, or winners of the 2nd 12?  Or will there be no silverwear up for grabs?

What exactly will be contested I'm not sure they've decided yet....but "talk" seems to be that all three of the 8 team leagues will get some kind of cup/shield/pennant.

Has anyone read at BBC that the Swiss FA has strongly recommended NOT to establish that system?
 

BTW, in Germany we have 80 million people and 56 professional teams (18-18-20). The third tier is full of financial problems despite TV money and average crowds around 4500. Below there's a semi-professional 4th tier with 100 teams or so in 5 regional groups with even more problems, at least 2 of the club in administration (plus Aachen in the 3rd). In the Bavarian group only the U 23 teams of Bayern and 1860 Munich, Nuremberg and Greuther Furth have applied for a licence for the 3rd, currently ranked 4th, 5th, 6th and 11th. So what do we learn about this?

So the fans are going to flood back to see much more attractive & exciting football & if we have a good season 8 th place will be a success!

Or if we miss the top 8 never mind , the fans will still flood in to see the excitement of a new league of 8 with 4 First division teams and  we might win a

pennant !

Yippee , cant wait.

No, but if the proposal goes through then finances will become a bit more stable and we'll have a structure under which moves can be made to change the game in the direction it needs to go.

 

Stick with the Status Quo and we can just keep discussing it year after year while nothing changes and fans continue to drift away from the game.
