I have noticed, that with both my old freeview box, and my BT Vision box, that the quality of picture on live games of footie on Channel 5 can be flickery and generally not the best. has anyone else noticed this?

And....this week, Both the Cellic game on ITV the other night, and todays Spurs game on C5, the viewing screen has reduced and has like a black surround round it. Whys that?

Answers on a postcard to etc etc

it's all to do with transmission standards and compression used, Channel 5 has always been one of the worst offenders with very poor qaulity,Sentanta is probably THE worst ,i find their pictures virtually unwatchable, the black bands down the side are generally from foriegn transmissions where they wre transmitted in 4:3 instead of widescreen, you can manually adjust the aspect ratio but you will distort the image by "stretching" it. HD is the way ahead, the Arsenal game was free in HD on freesat the other night and was absolutely brilliant qaulity.

The technical gumf of the various QAM standards is here 16 and 64 QAM transmissionsif ya can be ersed reading it,if ya can understand it, tell me!!

Cheers Dee. I know what you mean about Setanta. Sometimes the pic quality is shocking. The Everton game is on now and the black surround has pretty much gone....thank fook!

.......because I live in the black hole of Inverness. Sadly this forces me to go to the pub to watch football, it's a hard life.

PM me with yer location if you are keen to get reception, not many areas in Sneck that are complete no go's for Sat AND freeview (but their are a few)

Mind you, their are worse things in life than having to go to the pub to watch the fitba rite enuff !

What was odd was that the picture resolution for ITV1 on Tuesday night was different from Sky Sports 2 which was covering the Celtic game as well :rotflmao:
